This volume felt like it was broken into three parts, and each had a solid mix of humor, emotional development, and drama. I really liked how it was paced and started to pick up.
Introduction of Otsuka I’m really glad we quickly established that Otsuka is a girl’s girl and genuinely kind. She could have easily been written as a typical rival, but instead, she adds warmth and support to the cast. This section also kicked off the whole romance misunderstanding arc. Plus, we got the slow burn of Sumire building a connection with Gotanda—which honestly might be a ship in the making. I wouldn’t hate it.
Field Day (within the School Festival arc) Keisuke meddling in Yousuke and Tabata’s relationship? Hilarious. The fake sibling lie had me rolling, especially when Tabata called Yousuke “brother” and he nearly choked. Absolute gold. But the ending of that mini-arc really got me—Keisuke showing the “born in August” card? That was such a sweet and quiet emotional moment. Keisuke and Yousuke are still my favorites, with Gotanda close behind.
The School Festival The sudden thunderstorm was classic shoujo drama and worked perfectly to bring Tabata and Yousuke closer. I really appreciated how the Field Day arc helped soften their awkwardness beforehand. Their chemistry was so cute during these chapters. And finally—Yousuke’s feelings are slipping through. His jealousy is showing, and it’s clear he’s starting to see Tabata differently. He doesn't want to share her with others though he loves when others see her how he does too.. It's quite an adorable dilemma. The real surprise was Sumire. She dropped the act and confessed. That took guts, and I honestly respected her for it. Now it’s just a matter of time before Yousuke is forced to confront what he really wants.
Bel volume.
