This was honestly so disgusting, horrifying, and messed up. I'm giving this a low rating for how the author chose to handle the ending. I was not satisfied. I wanted justice! Umm.. no. Where were the consequences? Nonexistent? hmm...
Don't get me wrong. I am not giving this a low rating for the content, just how the author went about with the ending. I'm not one to stray away from taboo topics in literature, just how they choose to execute it is how I judge and rate them.
"You don't understand, Yui... When you aren't blessed by anyone, you can't acknowledge "love"."
Thực sự Harada khiến mình mâu thuẫn với diễn biến của にいちゃん Nii-chan .
More twisted than a pretzel. Leave it to Harada to mess up your mind and render you speechless. And that's why I love Harada.
I know I'm currently on the mission to read yaoi manga in alphabetical order, but I was searching for some smutty doujin as appetizer before I go back to my novel. So, when I saw Nii-chan I just thought it's time to read it, I'm in the mood for something darker right now, haha, and to hell with the alphabetical order, can't wait until I reach letter N, because I'm still at letter A and there is a ton of A... 😓
Harada….. they definitely WENT THERE 🙃 this is a deeply disturbing story about the consequences of parents not supporting kids who’ve been victims of grooming/rape (because of their selfish fear of THEIR reputations being tarnished with zero regard for their kids’ trauma). The focus is placed entirely on the traumatized kids. The way the lines of who is an abuser/victim get blurred in the end as a consequence of unprocessed early childhood trauma is deeply disturbing and chilling. Even more disturbing was where the story ended. I genuinely have no idea what to fucking rate this thing …. I see what the point was—and if it had just been prose and words on a page, I probably would’ve rated it—but explicit illustrations of child r*** …. 🤮
This story is... Interesting, shall we say. If I were to put a finger on what I like about this story, it's that everyone is wrong in some form or fashion. Kei is wrong for being abusive, his parents are wrong for the way they try to fix him, Maiko is wrong for holding a grudge against Kei, Yui is wrong for thinking his relationship with Kei can be healthy... But wrong isn't quite the word, here, is it? These characters make these decisions because they're influenced by the misdeeds of others. The conflict stems from people's inability to remove themselves from their own perspectives, and society at large's inability to understand and deal with the other with anything other than demonizing it. Now, some would come to the conclusion that this means that Yui and Kei's relationship should be accepted, but I don't view it that way. I think that Yui and Kei are together because they aren't understood. When Kei's parents try to fix him, they address the symptoms of his problems, rather than the cause. They don't try to understand why Kei is the way he is, they simply want to fix him. Similarly, Yui can't understand his own turmoil because nobody understands him.
*Reread 4/8/2022* Still such a powerful manga. I feel like it wasn't quite as good now that I know everything, but I also liked looking at all the details and noticing how resentful Kei was towards Yui in the beginning. I feel like he wasn't angry with Yui for running away. He was angry because Yui was able to run away and live a normal life afterwards. Yui could keep up appearances and his parents didn't try to "correct" him. Kei hated Yui for it, because he wasn't able to do that and his parents treated him so terribly. By the end Kei was just exhausted and had given up. He seemed like a shell of himself, although he was fucked from the beginning so I don't think he really had a good version of himself to be.
This is a really messy and disturbing story. Harada's great.
*Original Review 3/6/2022* Mai is a bad bitch!!! When she pulled out that taser??? She served.
Mild spoilers, because I have thoughts: Damn what a story. Kei was so fucking pitiful at the end I almost felt bad for him. Yui was kind of terrifying. Like he's clearly fucked up, but he seems so normal and calm and collected. It was like a flip switched midway. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. It's not a good ending, definitely not a happy one, but I understand it? I kind of would like to see how they would be through the years, because they should definitely not be together. They both need some serious help. Like Kei is still horrible for doing what he did, but in the end he's a victim himself, who didn't get the proper treatment he should've. His family tried so hard to fix him for the sake of appearances and fit the mold of a "proper" person, that he was never able to properly cope or understand that what was done to him was wrong. I also absolutely hate the fact that the man who ruined him is now living happy normal life. He absolutely does not deserve that. With Yui idk. He's just got serious Stolkholm I guess.
The conclusion isn't really a conclusion, but I'm fine with how it ended. This story as a whole is meant to be thought provoking and the ending gives that as well. It's a fucked up, but it was a good read imo.
This was messed up and an uncomfortable read. I skipped a lot of parts so idk if i missed out on stuff but idk what to make of that ending? I was pissed the parents didnt contact the police because of gossip and I get that the dude had an attachment to his agressor but was the ending with the pills showing that their " romance" is fucked up or going in their sense ? Cuz im all for stories ending in a way that's not positive for the characters involved ( idk how to word this) but it seemed as if the author was like " welp. Their choice!" Instead of " that's what you should NOT be doing kids". And usually I'd be like "ok you are free to write whatever" but this story was so detailed that idk i feel weird abt this , i dont want to go back on it. I dont know why i keep reading shit like this and lolita it litterally makes me want to throw up. I do think (hope) that the way the parents were never informed , even in the end , was an opening for us to imagine what would happen to the nii chan once they do find out. But why didn't the friend say anything seriouslyyyy argh

[ cw//tw: pedophilia. grooming. definitely not for the faint-hearted. ⚠️ read at your own risk! ⚠️ ]
[heavy breathing] Oh my god. Again with Harada-sensei, his/her manga really had a dark and really strong after-taste. Is it his/her signatures? Some mind blowing themes and contents? I've just read two of his/her works (including this title), so I don't know for sure.
Anyways, I want to throw up after just reading the first chapter because how raw the plot is and how realistically scary it is. Is this what happened to some child victims of pedophilia? It's sad and worrying. The outside world was extremely dangerous. Depraved humans roaming everywhere. We need to protect childern more!
I hate how little punishment pedophiles received in this manga; both from a legal standpoint and from society. It's really sad but somehow, I know, this kind of story can really happend in real life. Grooming is real and that's really worrying me. I'm scared for your child safety, parents. You have to protect your children more!
Actually, this is not a bad read. The plot, storylines, and flow was great. But this kind of "scary" story really is not my things. So I advice you, if you don't really have a strong mentality: ⚠️ DO NOT READ THIS ⚠️
My brain somehow survived, but I kind of regret reading it.
Hope none of the children have this kind of terrible experience.
While reading this I actually thought "Killing Stalking who?". And I have a reason. It was so fucking good. I mean, if you read it you'll find a lot of difficult situations, and they'll got you shocked. Rape, pedophile, drugs, alcohol, sadomasochism... I mean, what would it make the situation worse if it's not that? The matter here is that, the mental disorders. One for the rapist-blonde-abusive-dude, and other for the child that suffered and still has the feeling of loving the one who raped him. And the girl, that woman had my heart in the reading. The end wasn't bad, it was good, considering there were two finals. The second one? Was perfect, it made you think deeper about the situation, about the decision he made for her whole life, and how he regrets. Because dammit, the story goes on the childhood to adulthood. And it's tough.
Three stars only for the fact that the social grooming of an kid by a child molester is very frankly depicted with very little floweriness, if any at all. .
Trigger warning for pedophilia, grooming, child abuse, psychological abuse, blackmail, dependency, substance abuse, rape, "corrective therapy", and possibly more. This manga depicts a cycle of unhealthy relationships
I was randomly going through some yaoi titles and I thought the cover for this one looked cool. I wasn't really sure what to expect but when I saw who the author was (and the other titles they did), I knew I was going to be in for something dark. Harada depicts a cycle of unhealthy relationships starting with pedophilia, followed with guilt and regret over losing someone believed to be "kind". I actually really enjoyed that twist towards the end (which I don't want to spoil), since it really changes how you feel about some of the characters. Still, I can't see a happy ending for any of our characters, which is very tragic. It's like they realize that what they're doing isn't right, that their relationship isn't "normal", but they can't get out of this cycle of abuse
For anyone interested in reading this, or any of Harada’s work, please check the CW’s. I love their work, but it is twisted.
This isn’t the first time I’ve read this and likely won’t be the last.
(POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD. I kept everything vague, but just in case 🙏🏻)
Every character in this has their own issues.
This isn’t a story about romance.
I think this showed a different view of how someone can react to being groomed/raped as a child. It’s dark, but it doesn’t shy away from the taboo of it.
This story is one that sheds a light on what can and has happened outside of fiction.
It showed how a child is affected by their parents/guardians response to the trauma. Yui’s parents were more concerned with how others would view the situation than they were with Yui. Kei’s parents were irrational in their attempts at turning him “normal.”
All in all, this is an unfortunate story with an ending that will leave you upset. There are no consequences for the wrongs made. There is simply two men who aren’t understood by anyone other than each other so they find solace in their “relationship.”
This story means so much to me. When I first read this years ago, I had to process it for days because of how much it resonated with me. I was nearly sick, I nearly vomited. But I can't help but feel elated. I don't think many authors who have tried to touch such a complex topic had really conveyed and portrayed the reality of being a victim of grooming and pedophilia, and other aspects related to it such as the abuse and the emotional torment that comes with it. There's so much about it that is often overlooked than not. And it's devastating and very destructive. And this manga is really close to reality. It's emotionally compelling and really complex with the way it showed its premises.
I really love Harada-sensei's works. They mean so much to me. I feel understood.

there was no need to get the groomer and the groomed back together. disgusting. pity points cuz i usually like this author’s work and their style, but im disappointed. the groomer does not need a happy ending!!!!!
