Very nice book! Photos are beautiful, and recipes are quite approachable. I like the extra suggestions that are made (if this happens, then do this....). Really like this book and it would make a great gift for a morning foodie!
This book has some unique recipes using eggs, but I was hoping for a little more oomph in the savory department and a little less oomph in the pancakes/waffles department. I'm looking forward to trying many of the recipes. Gorgeous photos.
There is a little something in here for everyone, from taste (types of food) to skill level. However, while the photos included were fabulous, I would have liked to have seen more.
I have successfully made a few of these foods and I photocopied a couple of Lucas' for future use, but for a few of the recipes, I got confused - Personally, I think it's because the required skill level is beyond me, but for example, for the Baguette (p. 111+), you are required to do more than one thing in each step of the instructions - Step 6 (and there are 2 different photos to help with this) has you doing something with the dough (making sure that it is seam-side up) and then in the next sentence, doing something completely different (making sure that it is seam-side down). This was too confusing for me, so will be avoiding this, altogether.
Still, an interesting addition to our cookbook collection.
Reading as many of the Goodreads Choice Nominees as I can.
This was an aesthetically pleasing, well put together breakfast/brunch cookbook. I'm more of a savory than sweet person myself, and this was fairly balanced.
One thing I'm beginning to appreciate about cookbooks (now that I'm going through so many of them) is that each author/chef tends to have specific things that they have *very* specific opinions on. This makes the experience of each one unique.
What I liked most about this is how Lucas would present her version of a very basic food, and then also detail some variations. For example, many books might not bother to include a simple french toast recipe, but here we get that and several ways to change it up. The sidebars of helpful tips for techniques also seemed really helpful for a home cook trying to get more sophisticated.
Is it wrong to check out a cookbook, not find any recipes you want to cook, but also think “I would eat anything someone made for me out of this book?” Cause that is how I feel about this cookbook.
Everything looks delicious, nothing really inspired me to want to make it, but I do want brunch now.
I love breakfast. Like absolutely adore it. So was very disappointing that this book mostly went over the basics on breakfast. Was hoping for more. Couple of recipes I was interested, but not that many.
I love reading cookbooks for stories and inspiration to create things for my family. I found a few good recipes, but I felt as though it was beyond basic, and somewhat condescending.
A good collection of various brunch/breakfast recipes. Lots of variety and stunning pictures. For our family, the recipes fell a little flat. They weren't bad, but they just weren't winners for us.
This is a fun and easy, and approachable cookbook with tips and tricks. It is very family-friendly and provides different recipes for making pastries and egg dishes that will spice up any breakfast or brunch.
Breakfast is the hardest for me. I feel like we do the same old stuff every day, scrambled eggs or frozen waffles. So the book was inspiring because we immediately tried the crunchy French toast recipe. In the book, there's also an acai bowl that takes five minutes to make. The acai bowl and smoothies are super easy to throw together because you put everything in a blender, slice up some fruit, sprinkle on some granola, and you're done. It’s a no-brainer!
I'm really looking forward to trying some of these recipes! From the pictures to the ingredients, nearly everything in this book looked amazing. It's even got instructions on how to make baguettes! And another thing- everything was homemade, I didn't see a single cake or pudding mix used, which is just the way I like it!
I loved all the great ideas for breakfast and brunch! The photography was outstanding and the recipes were easy to follow and often required ingredients that were already in the pantry. Other it was worth the trip to the store for. I wrote down my favorite recipes and passed the book on to my daughter-in-law who is learning to cook. She is enjoying the book too.
I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. The recipes look good and not overly complicated. I wish there were more savory recipes. The party menus in the back were a nice way to see how to use this book for an event.
Lots of good recipes especially for us egg lovers! I like the easy to follow instructions and having pictures to go when the recipes. Good and tasty food!
