Nicole C. Moon is a romance writer, poet, and YouTuber currently living in a fictional world somewhere. She lives and breathes books, loves going to the movies, concerts, and coffee shops. She spends all her time reading, filming, writing, or cuddling her cats.
If you can’t reach her, she’s probably reading a romance novel on her couch.
This is such a wonderful and raw collection of poetry! I absolutely loved the feel of the emotions, and how it seemed to speak to my situation so often. I absolutely recommend!
This book started out really strong for me and I don't necessarily think the poems went downhill, there was just a lot of repetition - I was going to say too much but I caught myself because I don't want to crap on a book that has such good intentions. For the most part the poems are about weathering the storm which is great but there's only so many times you can hear rain = rainbow. I wish the author had used more metaphors because I enjoyed when they did. I also really liked a lot of the poems about sexism and I think it's because they were angrier than the rest. I get being kind to ourselves and to others but I think I would've liked a bit more anger towards mental illness and the games it can play because we can do both - we can be gentle with ourselves while simultaneously being angry at the fact we need to.
This review is intended to be constructive. I think this is an important book and I'm glad I read it and will try to carry much of the lessons with me such as the next time I'm feeling like a mess - so probably later today - I'm going to remind myself that even the ocean is a disaster sometimes 👏
So glad that I came across Nicole Moon on Twitter one day in a writers’ circle. She intrigued me as a person, and I was very eager to read her book when she announced it would be available. A consistent theme that I see throughout her book as well as her everyday posts and sharing is indomitable positivity. She is brave and encouraging with her words. Her poems show her in this light as she journeys through her life and champions you to do likewise. I know life can bring challenges and pain and sometimes it isn’t easy and it takes time to rebound in a positive direction. I feel Nicki respects this truth, and I respect her all the more for having the patience and determination to turn her life into a positive direction. Keep it up! You are a badass lady!
