DI Sara Ramsey is forced to tackle one of her toughest cases to date when a tragic fire turns out to be the actions of a deranged arsonist.
A person set on revenge...but why? What's his motive? He's risking everything, striking when innocent people are asleep in their beds, leaving in his wake a trail of devastation that is harrowing for Sara and her team to unravel.
Emotions are running high for all concerned: the families, the investigation team, and the murderer.
Can Sara capture the perpetrator while dealing with a personal issue that rocks her world, or will the murderer complete his revengeful agenda?

A chilling thriller involving arson and a man fighting his mind, as DI Sara Ramsey struggles to find a suspect while dealing with some tough family issues! You can not close this book once you start reading, as each fire and the horrible attack on families keeps your mind reeling. A story that hits you in the gut and turns the knife, you feel for the cops trying to stop this suspect as well as for the victims who went through so much before death... This is an enthralling thriller, you can Not take your eyes away from the page, becoming one with DI Sara as she confronts evil along with problems in her personal life, determined to beat them ALL!! Another amazing story from an author I have come to count on to enliven my days and nights with her sensational characters and engaging stories!!
First it's a family .... mom and dad and two young children. Then it's a childless couple. And then another couple with a young son.
They were all victims of a savage arsonist with a personal vendetta. But who would want to kill all these people and especially their children?
It's up to DI Sara Ramsey and her team to find this killer before he strikes again. And what makes it even harder on the emotions .... she's dealing with a personal issue that affects her entire family.
This is a fast-paced page-turner. Although 4th in the series, it works well as a stand alone. As always, I highly recommend starting at the beginning to catch all those nuggets that make the story credible ... and exciting.
Many thanks to the author / Special Arc Group (FB) for the advanced digital copy of this excellent addition to the series. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
DI Sara Ramsey is back and what a horrible case she finds herself working on!
The crime and murders in this book are certainly chilling, more so when it involves arson. I could feel the hairs raising on my arms the further into the story I got. As with all this authors books though, I knew I was going to have to wait until she was ready to reveal the who’s and why’s.
After how the last book in the series finished, I would have thought that Sara’s personal life would be on the up. Sadly life yet again has other plans leaving Sara not knowing which way to turn. I always enjoy how the author keeps the characters personal lives in check. For me it’s important to know the protagonists back ground as well as keep up to date with what is going on in their lives. It humanises them more and the reader can feel more empathy to what they are going through.
Deluded is a gripping, page turner of a read that I read in one sitting. There is lots of tension and suspense and was well and truly hooked from the prologue to the very last page. Superb crime series that will thrill and entertain you.
My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Hi review below for ‘Deluded’ and am still reading ‘Come Back For Me’!
‘Deluded’ by M.A.Comley published by Jeamel and Out Now ( publish date May 10th )
198 Pages
‘Deluded’ is book 4 in the D.I. Sara Ramsey series, as such it is fine as a stand alone ( I have not read the first 3 ) or of course as part of the series, you are given snippets of info re the back story of the perm characters in the series ( and these snippets did make me wonder what had happened to Sara’s husband and to her now boyfriend in the past etc ) The author is prolific, as her back catalogue shows and sales of over 2.5 million books show her popularity! In this book Revenge is the word of the day, but the seeker of this shows no mercy as he captures, tortures and sets fire to his victims!!, these scenes are realistic and chilling, the way the victims ‘build up’ to these events is written ( ie a normal night in ) is well done....and terrifying! The person who is doing these terrible crimes was also well described as was his ‘inner battle’ at what he was doing, I also liked ‘on the edge of it’ characters portrayal ie the neighbours and witnesses I didn’t particularly warm to D.I. Ramsey nor her police partner! I didn’t heartily dislike them either just didn’t have that immediate connection to either of them that is preferable A very quick read for me and hard to judge this authors many many books and writing style on this mid series book A scary thriller that will make you squirm!! 7.5/10 3.5 Stars
I love this author’s books and this is another cracking story from her!!
I thought that the story was very well written and although the plot is quite harrowing in places it is all done very well and in keeping with the tone of the book and the story. Nothing is sensationalised and it is dealt with using the author’s normal care and compassion to her characters.
This is a book that really puts its reader through the emotional ringer, I felt so sad reading it at times and on my goodness the title of the book is so apt for the serial killer in this one, the author has clearly done her research on the topic and the character is very well developed and believable.
I love the characters in the series and DI Ramsey is possibly overtaking the other lead characters the author has created for her other crime thriller series and that is saying something!!
I have no hesitation in giving this one five stars, it is a brilliant story, very well written and one that completely catches you with the plot and leaves you addicted to the end – I couldn’t put it down and needed to know how it would all end for those involved – very highly recommended!!
I don't think I've ever read a book with a more apt title. Deluded is just about the only word I have for the serial killer in this new addition to the D. I. Sara Ramsey series.
The crimes are truly atrocious and they are ramped up at such speed it doesn't bare thinking about, but at the same time, it meant the pacing of this book was incredibly fast.
I was completely hooked on seeing just how DI Sara Ramsey and her team were going to solve this one, especially given how little they had to go on. And yet again Sara is put through the wringer in her personal life too. Nothing ever seems to go smoothly for her, and I'm amazed continually how she copes with everything.
I did enjoy seeing her relationships deepen and continue to grow both with Mark and also Carla her partner. Sara has over the course of the first 4 books of this series continued to develop as a person, and although a complete workaholic, with good reason, she also seems more rounded than before.
I would still love to get to know the rest of her team better, we don't really see much of them at all, other than in meetings, and it would be good to get to know them all better, just to get a better feel for the police station. That being said I do really like Lorraine, the pathologist's personality, despite her harrowing job.
This is another wonderful book in this series, which seems to be going from strength to strength. The writing is up to the author's normal high standard, and the plot is addictively gripping,. The bad guy is horribly deluded and especially cruel.
It is a fabulously fast paced story that is really quick to read, and will have you hooked the entire time. My best recommendation would be to clear a couple of hours, switch off from the world and enjoy.
Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This latest in the DI Sara Ramsey series is harrowing, but what a stunner! Sara and her team are up against a vicious arsonist who targets innocent families – horrible, it’s everyone’s worst nightmare. With little to go on, Sara struggles both to find the maniac and to deal with her own personal troubles, so this is an emotional story too. The pacing is high speed and you’re kept glued to the page. Outstanding is how the author humanizes Sara, makes her real by depicting her relationships with her supportive partner, Carla. As I reader I most enjoy learning about characters’ personal lives and emotional backgrounds, which is here so well depicted. If you feel more empathy for your hero, the story becomes all the more gripping – and this thriller does. DELUDED is a high octane page turner that I stayed up late to finish, truly hooked from the first page to the last page. Well done, M.A. Comey, thank you for the gift of a wonderful read. Five stars!
A fast-paced chilling, and emotional thriller. I love the way the author gives a glimpse into all sides of the story and we see the victims, the killer, and the dedicated police force doing their best to solve the vicious crimes. Sara’s empathy for the victims’ families makes her a real, and endearing character.
Although family issues threaten to derail Sara from the investigation, she has a top notch team behind her, including a partner that goes the extra mile. Together they make a formidable force.
Although this one can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend starting with book 1. DI Sara Ramsey is an intriguing character and I’ve enjoyed watching her grow.
The beginning of this book hit me hard 1 of my biggest fears to start this hard hitting tale off. The antagonist is a twisted individual. Tortured & torturing. More personal life intertwined with a cracking story. A series that is getting better, heavier & will get your nerves going, it did mine!
The 4th book of the Sara Ramsey series and again this wonderful author has put my emotions through the grinder The main character Sara is an emotional lady but this book wouldbout anyone to the test. I love how she shows her emotional strength at times with her indifference or supposed indifference. Her link to her partner Carla is great as well and its unique to me as generally you see male and women partnered together so its nice to see two females both different in their own way. I like Carla as she is a strong secondary character who is support role. She has so much understanding and also such talent that she can help Sara at any time necessary. You can see the affection that they have for each other as well. The book is emotionally charged and always this author handles issues that are difficult at the best of times. She handles these tough issues with tact and great empathy. She shows that not everything has just one side and is one of the reasons I love this authors writing.
Book four in the DI Sara Ramsey series and wow, what a fantastic read!
Comley never fails to entertain me, she consistently produces highly entertaining and addictive pieces of work that makes you keep turning those pages to see what happens next!
A deranged arsonist, a person set on revenge but what’s his motive? DI Sara Ramsey and her team are on the case but it’s a race against time. This is a fast paced thriller that doesn’t disappoint, you won’t be able to put it down once you start reading! Five shiny stars from purplebookstand!
Deluded by Mel Comley. An absolutely fantastic read with great characters. Apart from the killer. Sara and Carla are of course still my favourite characters. Loved how Lorraine and Sara talked to Carla about her boyfriend fireman she is seeing. I do hope there is more to come. I love mels books. 5*. Highly recommended.
This books starts with a powerful and emotional prologue, and then as Sara's newest case unfolds, her team really do have a job on their hands to locate the killer There are some dark and violent parts to this story, but they are necessary to show the crimes being committed, and, why the killer deems it necessary to commit them.
I found the killer's reason for causing so much pain, interesting. It was clear he knew right from wrong, but the workings of his mind led him to be an angry and violent man.
Another case successfully solved by Sara and her team, that I really enjoyed reading.
Another 5* for this series which is high on my list of favourites. I did find this a particularly hard and sad book that had me in tears at all the awful loss of beautiful lives.
DI Sara Ramsey is investigating a string of arson attacks on really good people, but as the investigation progresses, she discovers there is a lot more to these attacks than arson as the deranged serial killer emerges.
Once again I loved seeing Sara and Marks relationship evolve and always look forward to the personal touches in Mel Comley’s books.
Mel Comley always delivers for me and I’ve been loving the Sara Ramsey series so far! Book 4 opens with such an idyllic scene of a family enjoying a perfect and much deserved day out together but all I could think of as I read those first few pages was that it was ALL TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! And unfortunately and heartbreakingly it was! So Sara definitely has her work cut out this time as she chases an arsonist with absolutely no remorse whatsoever for their actions. And it goes from bad to worse for the victims of those crimes. Honestly, Mel Comley seems such a lovely lady so where all these vile methods of murdering people come from I have no idea but she does indeed have a very warped imagination!
I read Deluded in one session, completely horrified by what I was reading but mentally cheering Sara on to get her man and put an end to his malevolent acts of violence. It’s an easy read but a difficult one at the same time due to the heartbreaking nature of the crimes (thankfully she didn’t go TOO far with the first one-you’ll understand if you’ve read it!) but I couldn’t rest until I was sure that justice had been handed out and that Sara’s life was also back on an even keel.
DI Sara Ramsey is devastated when she hears the news of her parents car accident. Trying to juggle her life between family and work commitments is taking its toll, especially when there is a murderer at large who seems to like playing with fire. There is plenty going on in the story to hold your interest and it was quite exciting to a degree, but I found a few things rushed and a bit unrealistic. Sorry, but I wouldn't want this particular police force investigating a murder in my street, they seem a bit careless in police procedure. However, it was a quick entertaining read.
This is another great series by Mel Comley that I have fallen in love and totally enjoy reading. She is not afraid to tackle sensitive subjects for her detectives to have to deal with. It shows that the research for the story has been done and the story just flows, making it unputdownable as I want to know the ending.
In this book, there is a person that sets a house on fire, killing the family inside. He thinks they deserve to die. DI Sara Ramsey cannot believe that someone has done this to a family. The next door neighbours house has been damaged by the fire as well. The mother of the lady that died was there, she had been contacted by the neighbour. They could think of no-one that would want to hurt the family. The firemen confirmed it was arson. The man who did it was still hearing the voices, although he had killed the family, they had not let up. He goes on to plot his next victims fate, what will happen to them.......
For me, these books are becoming a must read and are top of my books and authors to look out for, I am never disappointed.
I know when this author produces a new book then I'm in for a great treat. Deluded does not disappoint and if you're a true lover of crime thrillers then this is for you. Action packed with a serial killer on the loose and DI Sara Ramsey and her team of stalwart officers hard at it,finding all the clues and piecing them altogether. A truly brilliant read.
DI Sara Ramsey and her team are investigating gruesome, tragic, shocking crimes. A serial killer arsonist setting fire to firstly a family , then a couple and so forth.
It really grabs you around your heart and emotions like ivy. Intertwined and tangled every emotion you can think of.
The serial arsonist killer is almost definitely Deluded. He is sick, dangerous, vengeful and evil. To be honest I don’t think there are enough words to describe or express how sick and twisted the killer is
Although Sara is having some serious personal issues, she still gives everything she has to investigate and find the killer. Sara is one of my all time favourite characters.
And I absolutely love Sara And Caras Partnership. They always have each other’s back. I would love to see more of Cara.
The Author Mel has a epic way of really getting you into the mind of Sara and into her background and getting to really know her. And this 100% gets you really involved and interested in every aspect of this book.
As always, This is a fast paced action-packed book which is full of twists and turns that you will not or can not put down until you reach the very end.
It’s intense, heart-shattering, breath-taking, emotional, harrowing and shocking.
And it absolutely deserves all the 5 stars ⭐️ you need this book and if you haven’t read any of them I highly recommend to whole series.
Wow she’s done it again. The 4th in the highly enjoyable Sara Ramsey series. This time a sadistic individual with a vendetta is maiming people and setting fire to homes. Without many clues Sara and her team have to find the culprit before he strikes again. Well written and a great read.
Unbelievable plot details and slipshod police work.
This book has a well-written synopsis and many 5-starred reviews, so I was sure I’d enjoy reading it. Unfortunately, I’m in the minority of Goodread reviewers. I’ll explain why my rating should be 1.5 stars.
At the 60% mark, this quick-read was mostly about DI Sara Ramsey’s personal problems with her boyfriend and her parents. I prefer that the primary mystery plot take precedence over subplots to do with personal drama. What bothered me more than the angsty drama was the slipshod police work. To explain my rating, there will be:
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
A young family of four is killed in an house fire set by an arsonist. Same week, a couple is murdered, then their house—located two streets away—is torched. About a day later, a third house burns in the same area; the fire was set after two adults were murdered; a ten-year-old boy burned alive. Nine dead in three arsons in about a week, all clustered in one area of the city. Oddly, no frightened neighbors mill about in the streets and ask questions. There is no call-out for murder-cops, no all-hands SOCO commitment, no panicked police brass, and no politicians screaming bloody murder. Unbelievably, no media is present at fire scene.
DI Ramsey attends (alone) third arson and finds an answer-phone message. She asks a night desk sergeant to trace the call. A witness saw and spoke to the suspect, said his car was a Renault, and knew the car reg number. An urgent appeal with car details is circulated—a BOLO, I think.
Ramsey actually goes home (!)at about ten and sleeps for a few hours, until the sergeant calls with a name and address. Ramsey will contact the answer-phone caller named Claire—tomorrow. She goes back to sleep. Really.
Next day she goes to work at 0600 to do . . . paperwork. When her team assembles at 0800, Ramsey directs someone to search for car owner and address, and assigns other tasks. Then she calls answer-phone Claire, to meet after 0900. As she’s about to leave, Ramsey learns that the Renault seen leaving the arson scene is registered at Claire’s address—to her ex-husband. A bit later, Ramsey and DS Jameson are off to see Claire. No change of plans, no new strategy, no re-tasking troops, and no word to DCI. That’s enough for spoilers, and police procedural fans will find other policing problems in the various subplots.
I had a hard time rating this book. I docked 1/2 star for unsatisfactory explanation for antagonist’s “voices,” because many readers will assume he’s schizophrenic. Are auditory hallucinations due to other causes?
It doesn't feel that long ago that I was reading the opener of this series and here we are at book 4! Usual rules apply, you don't need them spelling out, but Sara's backstory and character development does warrant playing catch-up. So, we have a fire that wipes out an entire family. It's not difficult to work out it's arson but the motive is eluding Sara and her team. They are flummoxed and this confusion is compounded when there's another fire. With more people losing their lives. And then Sara's world collapses as something happens to those she loves. Can she juggle personal tragedy and still get to the bottom of things in the case, before more people die? What I love about these books is that as well as delivering a cracking case for the police to solve we also share the main characters' personal lives. It really does bring the series closer to me as a reader as I have more to invest in emotionally as well as a cracking mystery to solve. Sometimes this can be distracting but, as always, the author keeps the balance poised perfectly between case and personal and delivers a great all round series book read. It also helps that there is no superfluous padding. Everything included either speaks to character development or scene setting so, for me anyway, they are always good solid reads. Ones that I know I have to clear the decks before starting as invariably I will not want to put it down until I've finished. The main story contained within is harrowing. Oh my, what a despicable character we have running around setting fires. One of the worst I have read in time. And when we eventually get to the crux of the matter, as things escalate, well.. I'll just say that tense is an understatement! Oh my though, this author does put her characters through some trials and tribulations. If what happened last time for Sara wasn't enough, she is once again put through the emotional wringer with what happens here. Luckily she has a couple of people close to her to help her through things and it isn't all doom and gloom as there is the ubiquitous, trademark, banter to be found interspersed throughout which again keeps the book balanced overall. All in all, another winner from the author and another great addition to what looks like becoming another of my favourite series. Roll on next time...
Another tricky one for Sara and the team. William loses his job, and has a meltdown. Hitting his wife and child, until she gets a restraining order and divorced him.Rejected by mutual friends due to his behaviour, he starts on a revenge killing spree of their friends, setting fire to them after their deaths. Meanwhile Sara's parents are involved in a car crash, her father having a heart attack at the wheel. Its touch and go for him. My only disappointment with this book is the ego of the main character, was enjoying this series until saint Sara came on full force. Like Lorne Simpkins in the Justice series, they are invincible in their own minds. To make it worse they are surrounded by sycophants, who are always telling them how marvellous they are. Too late for this series, but no doubt there will be another series involving a female police inspector by this author, so please can you make the character real, making mistakes and occasionally stepping out of the limelight and giving a colleague or her boyfriend a chance . Perhaps a body dropped off a motorway bridge, causing horses from a race meeting to be injured & running loose after horse boxes crash. Let Mark be the super hero, saving the horses and Sara having to muck in as a traffic cop, until someone finds the body under one of the vehicles. Her jumping into help in a basic capacity, rather than arresting the horse folk and the horses for misbehaving on the motorway! Whilst I have nothing but admiration for those in any of the emergency services, the ones I have met during my work, have been concentrating on the task at hand, not being praised by their workmates. As they say, there is no I in team, but there is plenty of ME in Sara.
Sara and her team are investing an arson fire that wiped out a family of 4 when another arson attack occurs. This one is put out quickly and the victims are found to have been tortured and killed before the fire was set. More vicious attacks follow, each seemingly worse than the previous. Struggling to figure out if there's a motive to these hideous attacks or just some deranged arsonist killing at random, Sara and her team have their work cut out for them when Sara is thrown a huge curve ball in her private life and is torn between her personal and professional responsibility. Can the team solve this case before more innocent lives are wiped out?
Another fast paced story with complex characters and situations that keep you turning the pages. Really enjoyable read. I particularly like how the writer manages to illicit empathy for the perpetrator despite his heinous crimes.
WOW, this was so intense, really It made me think how something like this could really be true to life, as I was reading this series, it had me thinking how scary something like this could really happened to families who deal with loss.. Not just loss of family but loss of job, money, friends, that this could truly turn someone's thinking to such a bad place. It was very eerie but at the same time enlightening. Still love how M A Comley has brought this story to life and find this whole series one of the best I have ever read. Looking forward to reading the next book in this fantastic series. Thanks for sharing your stories with us all. I highly recommend this series to everyone.. Cindy Riley
What another fantastic book in the DI Sara Ramsey series? I’ve really enjoyed following the main character throughout all the books and once again, I loved this case.
About the case - horrific! I really enjoyed how the investigation panned out and definitely felt the tension throughout, especially as the perp was such a dangerous one. I also really felt for the families involved as I sped through this book. By sped, I don’t mean skipped things, I mean hurried up so that I could find out what would happen next and who the killer was.
This is a brilliant police procedural that gallops towards a satisfying ending as it tackles the hurdles. Another cracker!
Was a brilliant read as always but found it difficult to understand why the either forgot in book 2 or 3 mark went to Sara's parents for dinner and in this book he was meeting them all over again for the first time no biggy though I enjoyed the read in just downloading the book 5 where I hope Sara and Mark

I’m not disliking this series, this was a quick listen but I have several comments. I like the characters and let’s hope just for once the love relationship stays alive. My biggest criticism is there isn’t actually much actual police work. As a seasoned crime reader I thought it was lazy writing that the police didn’t immediately link the first two crimes. This is the first thing police do with similar crimes, as reader I felt the author needs to step up. Better interviews and a little more meat on the police procedures. I also found the crimes smacked a bit of gratuitous violence. No one really wants to read about kids being treated violently.
