Driven by the negligent death of her adopted daughter at the hands of a West African exploitation ring, American mother Erica Stone finds herself an unlikely advocate for orphaned children in Sierra Leone. Her dedication is tested by the deeply ingrained corruption she encounters as she fights to have her daughter’s life recognized while simultaneously trying to protect the lives of countless other children. Stone's memoir is raw, heartbreaking, and beautiful. Just like her journey from the depths of hell and back force her to become reborn, the reader will also be a different person by the time the last page is turned.
This book is so good, and so very sad. I hate the injustice in the world and I hope maybe, just maybe this will make a difference. I love Sierra Leone and TRS and the staff and kids. If you aren’t familiar with it, take a minute to look the up. Maybe become a sponsor, it will change you and help a child!
Captivating! I read this in one day! What an amazing tribute to Adama, Jayda, all of Erica’s children, and the tremendous amount of work that she and her husband Jason have done! I’m utterly amazed and speechless. Reading it made me feel like she was sitting next to me telling her story! Her vulnerability and courage to write this book is at a level most will never experience.
