When he meets Vaida, the quiet girl with dark eyes, he can’t help but be intrigued. But Vaida has secrets too. Secrets that could destroy all that Fletcher has worked to protect himself from.
Vaida Williams has to remain unnoticed. The wrong person seeing her could cost her her life. So, when Fletcher, the handsome man who won’t seem to take no for an answer, develops a sudden interest in her, Vaida begins to fear she may have to run...again. Fletcher has questions Vaida can’t answer. But, if Vaida opens up...Fletcher may be the one person who could help her.
The only problem? Trust is something she buried long ago. And she has no intention of allowing it to resurface.

When I first started this series, I wasn't a big fan of Fletcher. Honestly, he came across as a jerk, and that was that. But this book completely changed my mind! Once you learn his backstory, he actually turns into a bit of a hero. I ended up really liking him. I loved the direction this book took and how everything played out.
I enjoyed myself until the last OTT twist. Why, oh why? I can stomach some dubious behavior, when it’s explained, but too many twists and that free card is not valid anymore.
Well, this book did start out interesting. And, of course being the 3rd book in a series, I knew the main character from the beginning. But I didn’t care for the direction the story turned into. The characters are all horribly flawed with no value system. I am so glad I’ve read several of KMod’s books prior to this one. I felt icky after reading this one, but at least it wasn’t as warped as the second one in this series. Even still, I’m onto the 4th to finish the series.
5 stars!! Ahh this book is full of dark secrets and even darker pasts!
This is book 3 in “The Messes” series and I believe can be read as a stand alone but to me it wouldn’t hold up like it did because I read the other two. I have been waiting for Gavin’s (or did I mean Fletcher?!?!) book since the last chapter of “The Cleaner”!!!!
Yes Fletcher!! I love him. He has a jacked up past and some crazy shit went down in the first book but I am still hot for him! And his new interest, Vaida, I am totally digging. Though the police thing didn’t fit in for me but the rest of her story was that of a survivor. Yes bitch, yes!!Anyway, this story is about two people with some serious baggage just trying to survive. And when two different set of demons are trying to bring you down why not fight together! Vaida and Fletcher... that is a match made in.. well not heaven. Lol.
The James family is always intriguing and by the end of this story I have a little suspicion that one crazy ass bitch has her own story coming soon. What is Miss Gia up to???
I totally loved all three books but I have to say this book is my favorite thus far. It was detailed, intriguing, a little mind fuckery, exposing, truthful, and crazy. There are some triggers and for people who have lived this life you will get gratification. You will feel empathy and pain and probably fall in love with these two just as me. I am in love with this author as well (hopefully she will forgive me for my late review because I can NOT miss out on ANY of her upcoming books!!), she is a master of words. And even if you have read many books in between you never forget her characters!! This is a MUST read.
**I received this book as an ARC and in return I gave my honest and late (we all know with the move and all the other crazy shit I got behind on reviews and trying to catch up) review (And I am super sorry and love all the kick ass authors still giving a girl a shot)!**
This book is very intense, with emotional, mental, and physical abuse. This is definitely an amazing book from this author. I'm a huge fan of Kiersten's, she is definitely my go to author, when it comes to suspense thrillers.
This is a story about Fletcher and Vaida. They are both broken souls who are trying to survive from both their past, and future. This is an emotional ride you don't want to miss.
This book was intense! and so full of suspense! I literally could not put it down!! This whole series has been one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride!
I loved the other books in this series, so I was looking forward to this book releasing! I then signed up for an ARC and started reading it as soon as I received it! Once I started reading this book, I have to admit that it took me a few chapters to put all the pieces together from the other books to the characters and plot of this book! Once I did it started to make more sense to me and it made my enjoy it even more! The plot of this book also developed at the perfect pace and it only took me a few sittings to read! There were also quite a few twist and turns in this book and they had such a big impact! I didn't see some of them coming as well! There was also some romance in the plot between the two main characters, but this wasn't really the main focus because there was a lot more going on! I loved that it was in there though! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Vaida was the main female character, and in this book she was keeping a big secret and her secret actually made my heart break for her! I just wanted to wrap her in a massive hug and take her away! Vaida also just wanted to be free and to be in control of her life! She was treated horribly, but she came a long way in this book and did what she had to do! Fletcher was the main male character, and he was in the first book in this series! I loved Fletcher a lot in this book! He intrigued me and made me want to know more about him! Fletcher was also keeping a big secret in this book, but he was more open with Vaida and actually told her quite quickly! Fletcher then just wanted to know Vaida and help her when she needed it! He definitely got more than he bargained for when it came to Vaida's secret, but he supported her! I loved that this book was written from both Vaida and Fletcher's point of views! I was expecting it to be because the other books in this series were written from both characters point of views, so I'm really happy that this book was too! The synopsis also made it sound like it was going to be written from both of their point of views! It helped me connect more with Vaida and Fletcher and it allowed me to understand them more! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, especially as Vaida and Fletcher were going through their own situations and had their own secrets! I now can't wait to read the next book in this series! I know that the next book is going to be another standalone book, but the characters of the next book have me desperate to read their story! I think that it releases early next year, so there's not that long of a wait at all! I'll definitely be reading it as soon as it releases! I also love the cover for this book a lot! It suits the covers for the other books in the series perfectly and the cover model suits the character of Fletcher! The title of this book suits it perfectly as well! Big thank you to Kiersten for an ARC of The Liar!
The liar is book 3 in the Messes series, the series is mainly based around the James' siblings and their home town. The Liar is Fletcher's and Vaida's story, from the first page these two characters will grab a hold of you and not let you go until the very last page.
Fletcher meets Vaida when she starts working at the diner he works at, Fletcher wants to get to know Vaida, while Vaida just wants to do her job and not get noticed. When Fletcher gets an unexpected call from his brother Vaida decides to help him and they go to Fletcher's home town. Things starts to get real good at this point. These two have more in common than they truly realize and are bond and be there for each other.
"What Kind of messed up are we?"
Kiersten Modglin must be a god in her regular day to day life, she knows how to grab you from the first page and hang on to you until the very end. When she unexpectedly lets you go, you are left in a puddle of goo wanting more. She typically has me on the edge of my seat, I just can not read fast enough. One minute you think you know what is going to happen in the book and then... BAM!! You are blindsided with a juicy plot twist. I love how she writes, you can pick up any of her books in any of her series and read them without being confused. I personally can not wait until book 4 of the series comes out, I will then have my many questions answered. I do highly recommend reading this book and any book by Kiersten Modglin.
A very intense book with emotional, physical and mental abuse involved. It jumps back and forth from past to present. A very emotional ride that you really don't want to miss.
It's a must read. If you think you've figured it out, you're mistaken, you won't have figured it out, at all. A suspenseful book with twists and turns that you don't know what hit you!
The Liar by Kiersten Modglin (the third novel in the Messes Series) tells the story of Fletcher and Vaida’s lives and the messiness of it all. It was a very interesting read as it was reading like a thriller with an element of romance hidden, almost following the pattern of crimes of passion and I loved the twist and turns of the story. It was unpredictable, messy, chaotic and full of twists and turns.
As I mentioned before, the book was unpredictable. It was full of twists and turns that weren’t expected at all. It was as if the author could read your mind, and said ‘nope, lets change things around.’ A lot was going on, so it left you intrigued as to what would happen next. It was full of action, so it does not leave you disappointed in that part in the slightest.
However, at the beginning of the story, I felt that the story was a little too fast-paced. To me, it felt a little rushed in places where the story could have been dragged in more. I’ve always had the preference of slow burn, and in certain places, it just felt a little too fast. I don’t mind insta-love, but sometimes I felt that a story is unrealistic, especially discussing heavy issues, if a couple were declaring love after hours of knowing them. It just doesn’t seem too realistic, but in this book this isn’t too much of an issue.
Furthermore, the more I read the story, the more I felt that the story was completely awesome. It was full of angst and I loved how everything was placed and the characters reactions to everything. I loved how strong Vaida and Fletcher were, and that cliff-hanger? Left. Me. Wanting. More. I’m interested to see what will happen next in the story, and if it’s on the character I thinks going to be on, then it’s going to be one thrilling read!!!
This book discusses heavy themes such as mental health, death and abuse in the physical and emotional form. If this is something that may trigger something, then please be careful when reading this book. It’s not a light book and will make you incredibly uncomfortable in parts (trust me, it did that to me), but it was a really good read, and I am glad that I’d read it.
The Liar is an unconventional, unpredictable and thrilling read. It is a dark read that will almost definitely make you fell uncomfortable reading, but it is a worthwhile read that will keep you hooked ‘til the end.
"You deserve good in your life. Of all people, you do. But I don't think I'll be it." "Why's that?" "I'm not good for anyone. Too much baggage." "Are you kidding me? Have you been listening to all the baggage I come with?" "Mine makes yours look like carry-on." "See, it' like I told you, we're a perfect match."
OH. MY. GOD!!! This was so amazing!! Every time I read one of Ms. Modglin's books I am taken on a path with so many twists and turns, not even a trail of breadcrumbs would help me figure out what's waiting at the end!
Fletcher Denali is just trying to get through every day. With a new identity and a job that pays him under the table, he's hoping his past will stay hidden in the shadows. He keeps to himself, never letting anyone get too close - until HER. Vaida. He's immediately drawn to her and he'll soon find out that they share more in common than he could have ever imagined - secrets that if brought out in to the open could get them killed.
Vaida Williams is trying to stay hidden. He can't find her. If he does, she's dead. Meeting Fletcher could be the best, and the worst thing to happen. The attraction is strong, but she can't let him too close - she can't allow herself to trust him either. But, the more time they spend together, the more she want to do just that.
One phone call starts them down a path that leads to nothing but mystery, danger, betrayal and death. But who's past is coming for them - his? Or hers? Or both?
Ok, I like to think of myself as fairly intelligent and intuitive. Yet, every time I thought I knew what was going on, or who was behind the strange happenings, I was completely WRONG!! I audibly gasped not once, but SEVERAL times thinking, NO WAY! I could not believe the players involved in this one - brilliant!!! This one will keep you guessing until the end, and you'll be shocked like I was!
I highly recommend this entire series, as well as anything this author has written. She is the Queen of Twists and Turns and the Master of Mystery!!
What is a connection? A relation of personal intimacy; a bond or common feeling between two people.
Fletcher and Vaida would never have met if they hadn’t been running away from their pasts. They are connected by their desire to start over as someone else and the hopes that they can have a better future than the one they left behind. They hated having to always look over their shoulders and couldn’t have a real life. Fletcher and Vaida needed each other because they both knew how it felt to be alone.
Fletcher was captivated by Vaida the moment she walked into the diner looking for a job. She was beautiful, a hard worker and at the same time, she had sad eyes and a “don’t bug me” demeanor. He hadn’t felt attracted to anyone in a long time and he wasn’t about to let her ignore him forever. He may have a life full of secrets, but he just wanted to let some happiness into his world.
Vaida just wants to keep her head down, save some money and decide where to go next, but she fears she will never feel safe anywhere She can’t go home, she has no one to talk to and she knows that any day could be her last. So when Fletcher attempted to talk to her and ask nosy questions, she shut him down and walked away. Of course, that didn’t last long and when he needed her help, she looked in his sad eyes and knew she had to go with him. They had a spiritual connection that would hopefully keep them safe from danger.
I love romantic suspense books and Kiersten Modglin’s “The Liar” is filled with mysteries, secrets and past’s that are better left behind. As I turned page after page I tried to guess what was coming next, but I was always surprised. As with all of her books the storyline is intriguing, the characters are believable and danger is lurking behind every corner.

Fletcher and Vaida’s story had me from page one and I couldn’t put the book down, it was so emotional, loving and pulled at your heart strings. The rollercoaster of emotions is so overwhelming that you don’t know whether to laugh cry or jump for joy. Kiersten Modglin is such a phenomenal writer, author and loves to leave you hanging no matter what you read of hers. She will take you on a journey that you don’t want to leave but makes you want to crawl up inside the Book with the characters that you could stay all day.
Another awesome book for this series. I loved the other books in this series, so I was looking forward to this book.

I've enjoyed this series and after the ending to The Liar, I look forward to the last book 'The Prisoner' in the series even more now. The title of this book suits it perfectly as well.
I have truly been missing out on an extraordinary author!
I had no idea The Liar was going to turn into this! Oh my goodness, such a phenomenal story full of angst, twists, and turns. So, I'm reading along, enjoying Fletcher and Vaida's story, a bit vague at times(thanks to the careful plotting and planning from the author) but still one of those you can't put down because you know something's about to happen. Fletcher, though a bit persistent, was determined to connect with Vaida. Then bam! I never saw it coming. I love a suspenseful story that will capture you by complete surprise and that's exactly what The Liar did. Total, utter shock!
The Liar was written so casually, so laid back then takes off like a rocket. Kiersten Modglin tastefully crafted this epic story, full of emotion and heartache one minute, then suspense and intrigue the next. I love when an author can weave these kinds of stories, that play with my head and emotions.
This book, it really tells the story of unavoidable love and the lengths we, as humans, go through for the ones we love.
Fletcher and Vaida are the textbook definition of lives that could've been different, but one person changed it all.
This story will break your heart while simultaneously putting it back together. Your heart will break for the lives of these characters and the things they have endured. It will break for the what could have beens and what could be's in another lifetime.
While book 2 from the series had me reeling with high expectations of the twists that Modglin is able to throw at you, book 3 was a little on the tamer side of those twists and turns. However, do not fear though, she stays true to her writing style with unexpected twists.
I've enjoyed this series and after the ending to The Liar, I look forward to the last book of the series even more now!
This book. Ohmygod!! I'm speechless. How does one write a review for this story? I mean it was everything all rolled up in one to make the perfect story! Vaida and Fletcher seem like two normal people. But, the reality of it is they both have secrets and have to lie to protect them. Do they trust each other enough with their secrets? You will have to grab this book to find out. Be prepared to be taken on the craziest roller coaster ride of your life! It will leave you on the edge of your seat, leaving you gasping after every page. This book gave me a lot of WTF moments! And that ending OMFG!!!! I NEED MORE LIKE NOW!!! FANTASTIC JOB AS USUAL KIERSTEN! You keep setting the bar higher and higher with every new book!
Lord do I love this one. This series just keeps getting better and better. Lies would hurt anyone but what happens when all the lies are for the best. Fletcher is not living the life is wants to live. He is hiding from so many secrets and lies. But meeting Vaida changes everything in so many different ways because she has her own secrets and lies. I absolutely love these two together. Perfect for each other in so many different ways. I absolutely loved this story line and the amazing twists and turns. There is a twist and turn on every single page. This is definitely a page turner you won't want to put down until the end. And don't get me started on the end. I was ready to throw my kindle. Kiersten blew me away with the twists and turns in this one. Highly recommend reading this one.
WOW JUST WOW! Kiersten Modglin is a new to me author, and I was on the edge of my seat cover to cover during The Liar 100%! I'm not going to give too much of a description, because it's just too good not to go in to this story blind. So the hero is Fletcher, and he has BIG secrets. He has a thing for the heroine, Vaida, who is carrying a boatload of her own secrets. And that's all you need to know. See, those secrets make up so many twists & turns that my head is still spinning long after I finished the story, not to mention, the insane amount of f-bombs that dropped would have made my great grandmother feed me soap for the rest of my life. My heart raced, my palms were sweaty, and I simply couldn't put the book down to even use the restroom because I was so far into Fletcher & Vaida's world. There were even some very funny moments that came from a colorful cast of secondaries that I fell in love with as well. And the ending?! Well, let's just say, it may or may not came off as a cliffy? Yeah, you will just have to decide for yourselves, because I have more questions, and also am certain that I NEED more of the very talented Ms. Modglin's stories in the future! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Damn! This lady can write! The Messes series by Kiersten Modglin is an exceptional series. I got wrapped up in this storyline from the very beginning, with each book giving me a look at what was to come. The Liar book 3 is no exception other than WOW how did she do that. I read this novel in one sitting, captivated by the words on the page. The suspense was startling and well-done. As with the previous books, I could not put this one down either. The characters Fletcher and Vaida will keep you reading as their story is masterfully weaved around you. I must say that this is the perfect series and I highly recommend it to all.
The thing I love about Kiersten's writing is that just when you think you have it all figured out she goes and throws in a twist for good measure. Every time.
What to say about The Liar....it's a dark, twisty, page turner of a story. So Intricately linked with the other books in the series that You become so involved with the characters and find yourself screaming at them when they make a decision or choice you know is wrong for them. From the first page to the last this read had me turning the pages almost faster then I could read them
I sincerely hope that we get to see more in this series...
Another great book in the Messes series! This is the book about Fletcher Denali aka Gavin from the Cleaner. Living his life as quietly as he can, Fletcher wants nothing more than to take care of his sister and move beyond his heartbreaking past. Enter Vaida another lost soul not looking to do moire than survive the past. These two are meant for each other but the past they each have is a force to be reckoned with. I don't know how the author keeps making her stories better and more intense each time but she does and we are reaping the benefit. A crazy, emotional, intense ride. I loved this book perhaps more that I expected. A great series, you wont regret reading.
I received an ARC of this book. This book was awesome. I loved the suspense, the thrill, the intensity, the romance and the mentality. The layout of this book from the present to the past then back to the present with Fletcher and Vaida and their pasts coming out, was great. I totally loved reading this book. It kept me in so much suspense it kept my emotions up on high. I recommend this book after her first two The Cleaner and The Healer, read them in order it will help you understand all the people in them. Thank you Kiersten for the excellent and best reads this year by far.
If you've read The Cleaner and The Healer, then You NEED to read The Liar
We hear Gavin's heartbreaking story about dealing with his girlfriend's death in The Cleaner. When along comes Viada. Vaida has secrets and a terrifying past of her own.
Are Gavin and Vaida's dark and deadly sins too much for the couple to handle or will they heal each others broken souls?
The sub characters Joy and Sarah are awesome! The author portrays them perfectly. If you've loved Gunner from The Cleaner, he makes an appearance.
This book is so good!!!! The Messes series does not disappoint and each book just gets better and better. Fletcher and Vaida are by far my favorite of the series! They are both running from a past that they don't see a way out of, but yet they manage to find each other. But can they trust each other? Will their past come back to haunt them? You'll have to read the book to find out, but I promise you it will be worth it!!! While it could be read as a stand alone, it is extremely helpful to read the first two books. I can't wait for the next one!!
This is another amazing read in this series. The story will have you pulled in from the beginning to the end. There are plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing what's going to happen next. This story about Fletcher and Vaida gives the feel of what some second chances could be for some people as well as the lengths they would go to for the person they love. An excellent storyline that intertwines the characters together nicely with an ending you won't see coming, leaving you to wonder what will be next. I definitely recommend this story and series.
The Liar is book 3 in the Messes Series by Kiersrem Modglin. I have read the other 2 in the series and The Liar did not disappoint. Fletcher and Vaida's story drew me in and kept me hanging on to every word. A definite page turner. Just when I thought I knew, I was hit with another twist. I hated that I had to put it down to go to bed. Lol Fletcher and Vaida are drawn to each other but don't want to acknowledge it to each other. It's a wild ride, so hang on to your seat. I can't wait for more.
