La explosión de color que desprenden las piezas bordadas son un auténtico regalo para los sentidos. Y es que, además del relieve y la textura, una de las razones que hacen del...
I’ll start straight away by telling you why I love this book so much.
Most color theory books are so overloaded with the technical abstract side of colors, that make them so hard to follow and I think that’s why many people struggle to understand the color theory altogether.
While this book starts with the color theory – The Understanding Colour section is not too technical and serves as a good introduction for beginners or a nice reminder for the more color-skilled stitchers. And that’s exactly what I love about this book!
The emphasis goes on understanding colors in a more practical way, training your eye to see and feel the colors, rather than blindly following a theory. Colors are more than a theory, they have to express an emotion, create a mood, and communicate a message.
This is exactly what this book feels like to me! An invitation to go beyond the theory and learn the skill of color through observation and exploration.
If you’re looking for an instructional stitch resource or step-by-step embroidery projects, then this book might not be the right one for you.
This is a great book on color theory applied to textile art and a useful resource on how to create your own color palettes. By reading this book I discovered one of the easiest ways to create a stitch color palette from an image. You can read about it here: https://makenstitch.com/how-to-create...
Excellent resource on color theory for embroidery. Barbé works with DMC thread colors to instruct readers on creating palettes and working with background fabric. I can identify a cohesive palette, but struggle to build one myself. The spread on creating a color palette using color theory, demonstrating 9 different methods, is my favorite. Barbé also discusses pulling colors from photographs and real-life inspiration--sort of like observing color theory at work in real life. She recommends digital tools, but to my knowledge, there's no app for coordinating a photograph with DMC threads, so this is still a painstaking process. I will use this book as a reference for embroidery, but also for other crafts that involve color theory, and even decorating.
Being more of a traditionalist when it comes to arts and crafts, I did not like any of the projects, or even Barbé's bohemian style of stitching, but her work is excellent. The pictures still inspire me, even if I'm not moved to recreate the projects.
This book is perfect in every way. I love the basics about color, then the in-depth explanation about building a palette. I also loved the projects as the vivid sewer and embroidery lover I am! I highly recommend this book for the theory in it, but also the practical use and creativity it will bring up to the reader.
Great reference book, and not just for stitchers, anyone wanting an insight into colours and how they work together, so great for artists and crafters. Easy to read with projects and how to create palettes. Good for teens and adults.
Un libro que explica de manera muy práctica como armar combinaciones para proyectos de bordado. Podría utilizarse para armar paletas para otro tipo de trabajos.
I borrowed this from the library and would like a copy for my shelf. Color theory is not new to me, but Barbé innovates by including useful exercises for building color confidence.
