This book is made me hungry and happy in the same time. — the restaurant that open in the night. However, the meal is not heavy and healthy. When you came here you will full of stomach and happiness also. :-)
Makan Malam is the healing story of a night cafe run by two drag queens, Sharl (Char? Shaal? not sure of the official romanization of her name) and Jada. Sharl is an absolute goddess. Not just in the sense of looking like one, but she also acts as a guardian angel to guests, always helping them in troubled times--whether that's with a good bit of advice or a delicious meal. Jada is a bit more of a rascal with a wild heart, though filled with a special kindness of her own.
This book took me ages to read. When I picked it up I enjoyed it, but I didn't feel like "I have to read to find out what happens!" until nearly the end. That's not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you are in the market for a slow comfort read.
I picked up Makan Malam as it was recommended to me by a friend. The concept was great, I liked the characters, and I felt that each story in the book got progressively better.
3.5~, I will likely continue with this series in the future.
