Having your cake and eating it too is something everyone on the planet wants in life. For some, it is the happy family with two monsters for kids that no matter what happens, they can do no wrong, some it is fame on the big screen, being stalked by paparazzi and others, it is to travel the world seeing all that mother nature has to offer. Gag me with an overstuffed pillow. Don't get me wrong, I wanted it all, but my vision of happiness is the dream job, the dream car, the awesome apartment and a plate of bacon all to myself. The only thing I didn't want was a man. In my experience, men only cloud your judgment and replace your dreams with theirs. Things were going according to plan until fate, karma, destiny, fortune or whatever you want to call it stepped in and said "Oh wait, no, I don't think so." and took it all from me. For now I'm stuck mooching off my best friend and working desperately trying to figure out a way to get it all back. That is until fate slaps a Jesse in my face. But let me start from the beginning. So grab a plate of Bacon or your favorite snack and let me tell you all about it.

Rae Matthews is a Minneapolis, Minnesota native who moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2002 for a guy, of all things. There she started off as a bartender at a neighborhood bar, eventually moving into telecommunications. Years later she is now a wife and a 'wicked' stepmother. It's a good thing she is a good cook, or they may have tossed her out on her tushy years ago.
Rae is also known for being a bit of a goofball. She loves to see people smile and doesn't mind if they are smiling and even laughing at her, not with her. Her motto is, "Life is too short to not laugh as much as you can." Rae regaled her friends with her stories for years, and she loves to tell them, even if her friends didn't want to hear them. But now Rae is finally ready to share her stories with others.

As time goes by, Rae hopes to find more time to travel and take on new challenges while continuing her joy of telling stories, crafting, cooking and generally just having fun.

Kelly Rae Matthews
Kelly by Rae Matthews (Mixed Drinks 2)
Humorous Contemporary Romance, Can stand alone
I was so excited to get my hands on Kelly! Sasha, the first book in this series of standalones, was one of my surprise favorites of 2014. I loved Rae's sense of silly humor, combined with a group of good friends and romance.

For me, one of the keys to loving a book is loving the heroine. Even better, is when there is a group of friends I'm dying to hang with, that's how these books are. I'm dying to meet all these girls and hang out for the weekend (with lots of booze).

Kelly was a social worker; her dream job, and all she ever wanted to do since she was 11 and a social worker helped her best friend. Life was good. New car, great job and great friends. Kelly  wasn't looking for love. Her life was perfect. Until she got laid off. They promised they'd work it out for her to come back in a couple of months, but a year later, Kelly is waiting tables at Dukes instead of her dream job, and her awesome car was repossessed. There was only one good thing about Duke's. BACON. They add it to everything.
QUOTE MARKI cannot tell you how much I love bacon...and smelling it all day was like a little slice of heaven in the hell on earth I now call my life."

While Kelly doesn't normally do blind dates, she accepted one through a friend at work. When she was working, she couldn't care less about dating. But now, someone paying for a meal is a very welcome treat. Unless he is a Star Wars freak named Benji.
QUOTE MARKOh my God, somebody please come kidnap me. I won't struggle, won't scream. I will come with you quietly."

Kelly's prayers were answered in the form of a gorgeous guy who interrupts her date.
QUOTE MARKI couldn't help but notice you look extremely bored."...I'm pretty sure you are bored off your ass and that if you never hear another word about Star Wars again in your life it will be too soon."

As he proceeds to educate Benji in proper dating technique, Kelly loves the nerve he has to do that. Plus he's hot and smells good.
QUOTE MARKOh hell, this man is going to give me a lady boner without even trying. He has to be one of the sexiest men I have ever had the pleasure of laying my eyes on. His words are not poetry, but the way they flow out of his mouth makes me weak."

Despite the connection with Jesse, Kelly never uses the number he gives her. Until she gets herself into a pretty dangerous predicament, and she runs into him again.  But of course, she embarrasses herself again...
QUOTE MARKUm, Ashley, you may want to avoid the bathroom for a good twenty minutes because I just dropped a giant deuce that would make a grown man cry like a baby."

But that's OK, he still wants her. And boy, does she want him.

Kelly Rae Matthews

Likes:

•Laugh out loud funny moments.
•Realistic personalities that you want to be friends with.
•I loved every character.
•Reminded me of a Janet Evanovich book (which I loved).
•Hot cops? Yes please.
•Exciting edge of seat moments mixed with romance and comedy.

Dislikes:

•More commas would have helped the flow.
•The cute, funny ending could have been a bit more realistic.
•Not enough of a tie-in to the first book.
•Some unfinished incidents and minor unanswered questions that most other people probably wouldn't even notice.

Rating: 4.25-4.5 stars, 4 heat

The Down and Dirty:
While I didn't quite love Kelly as much as I loved Sasha, it still had Rae's unique, funny-as-hell, realistic way best friends talk kind of dialogue. Kelly was a bit more over-the-top than Sasha, but it added a different, fun element. Another round of editing would have brought Kelly up to a 4.5 star read, but I don't know what was actually fixed after I read the ARC.

well its been almost a year since I was able to read a book that doesn't involve 3 little pigs or the stars and the moon. . (kids books).
In order to start my book reading hobby I was able to attend the Wicked Book even 2018. which I heard is the last event they will be having. I grab about 5 books. and the first one I was able to start reading was "Kelly" by Rae Matthews. I was excited to read this book. I actually met Mrs. Matthews. she was so funny. More reasons that we bought her books. came home and start to read it. And I actually finish this book in one day. Yes, its a fast read. However, couldn't stop laughing. Its funny and interesting. Again haven't read an adult book in a year. So to read this funny book was a great start. Enough about me.
Kelly- is about a woman that had pretty some control in her life. However like many American good things come to an end. She lost her job. But she has two great friends that have been in her life since she could remember. They support each other and help each other. Once a month they take a time off to lay in bed and eat all sort of fatting food like BACON> Kelly hasn't had any great luck in the dating world. Then Jessie came along. In a way that is pretty shocking. Always obey the law. Kelly had some issues with that in her life.
The love that Kelly has for her friends is beyond. The things that she had to do to help one of them is over the top I would say. I don't want to give to much of the story because its a short read. but I enjoyed and recommended. its a fun and sexy book. Makes you laugh. It reminds me of all the funny moments that I have shared with my girls. Especially my closes friends. hmmmm good times. I actually read Book 2 which is Kelly- so now I guess I will read book 1. my life is upside down. #mommylife #tryingtogetmyselfback #readingismytherapy oh dammmm Ive became one of the Hashtags people.

I definitely liked the first book more. Maybe because it was more steamy, but still good and finished it in a day. A good read!

Kelly is book 2 in Rae Matthews Mixed Drinks Series, with Sasha being the first. They are standalones so you need not read the first one but after reading Kelly, i actually went and one-clicked Sasha as i enjoyed it so much!

Kelly is a 26 year old, social worker living a comfortable life until all of a sudden the unthinkable happens – she looses her job! Now shes, mooching off her best friend whilst working as a waitress waiting to get her life back.

Jesse is alpha male K9 cop with a tendency to be in the right place at the right time when it comes to Kelly, with having rescued her from a bad blind date and a harrowing experience involving, strippers, a pole and a helluv alot of cops!

This book has it all, the right amount of comedy, sex and suspense. It almost had a slight KA’s Rock Chick’s feel to it, but was completely different if you know what i mean? Kelly and her best friend Ashley had the type of friendship every girl wishes for; a sisterhood!

All in all, I highly recommend reading Kelly by Rae Matthews if you are looking for a good fun exciting read!

Kelly is the second book in the Mixed Drinks Series and it can be read as a standalone. I suggest you read Sasha (Book #1) at some point as well as it is also freaking hilarious!

Kelly is what we have come to expect with a Rae Matthews book. It’s funny, quirky, witty and sexy and an extremely enjoyable read.

Kelly is a Social Worker who loses her job and starts waitressing to pay the bills. She previously was comfortable with her living side of things but has since taken to relying heavily on her best friend as she tries to deal with the loss of income.

In some hilarious encounters, she meets Jesse who saves her from some rather embarrassing situations. He is a sexy cop from the K9 Unit and the sparks fly for both of them resulting in some of the charts steamy scenes and lots of laughs as they navigate their way through love and other catastrophes.

If you are looking for a light hearted and funny read, then Kelly is the book for you.

I absolutely loved book one in this series and was glad to be able to take part in this tour. You don't need to have read Sasha (book 1) as they are pretty good as stand alone books but I do suggest you read it - it was great/

This book is just as good. We meet Kelly, who has been out of a job after her job as a social worker was temporarily put on hold due to budget constraints and she is still waiting on returning. As time goes on it doesn't seem likely that it will happen any time soon so she is having to stay with her best friend, and is working at a waitress.

Jess is a police office with the K9 unit and is your sexy alpha male. He rescues Kelly from a disastrous first date leaving her wanting to see him again but never actually calling him. In a funn to read situation they cross paths again.

This a great quick read, full of funny moments with a hint of mystery added in for good measure.

While this was a fun read there were lots of typos even one of the main characters names was misspelled at one point "Ashley" was spelled "Ashely" just over all basic things like that weren't caught just poorly edited in general. It's a shame too because this was a fun book it made me laugh out loud more than a couple of times but the errors were a distraction. I liked Kelly better than the first in this series (Sasha) just was more on the comical end and my brand of humor...which is inappropriate ...ha! So, if you need a beach/by the pool book go for it and get this book. You don't need to read Sasha first these are stand alone stories. Maybe you'll luck out and get it for free...when I got this Amazon was giving it away ..it was free no special promo just been marked down to 0.00.

Let me start off by saying, I absolutely loved book 1, Sasha, and Kelly did not disappoint. The books can be read out of order, and there are no cliffhangers, which I know are a big deal for some readers.
Now on to the review, Kelly, a laid off social worker, gets her self into a few mishaps, and the craziness that ensues takes us on a fun journey with Kelly, her best friend, Ashley, and the Holy hotness that is Jesse. Kelly meets Jesse on a horrible blind date where she would rather be kidnapped... "Oh my God, someone please come kidnap me. I won't struggle, won't scream, I will come with you quietly. "

Reminded me a little of One for the Money. This book has laughs, love & adventure. This is book 2 and is about a related char from book one. Kelly has lost it all. She is on her last dollar, then she ran out of gas. What is a woman to do? Life takes her on an adventure she didn't see coming.
