My name is Rachel. I died and rose again.

I was an ordinary high school girl when a viral plague spread across my planet. Those that died rose again as mindless zombies. Fortunately, science came to the rescue and gave me back my mind. As a conscious zombie, I gained exceptional powers – speed, strength and more. That, plus a secret heritage, changed my life forever.

The outside world didn't accept my kind, however, and soon I decided to join the military. I trained to become an Army Ranger.

Now, as an elite undead killing machine, I must make a choice. Allegiance to my kind or to the Federation. Choose wrong and I could die…for good.

Another installment in the Seven Stars Universe by Dayne Edmondson, this is a young adult space opera adventure novel set a few years before his space opera novel "Emergence" and featuring a major character from the third book, "Ruin."

“Sticks and steel could break my bones, but words could never hurt me.”
Mystery, intrigue, deceit and lies propell our young protagonist from an innocent teenager training as an Army Ranger to take remarkable and unavoidable decisions. The plot unravels bit by bit, building towards a powerful crescendo.
This story has it all, human treason, conspiracies at high government and military level, astounding power discoveries, moral and ethical aspects abound, great battle scenes and terrifying scenarios. I was captivated from the beginning. A great, promising series!
I received an early version of this book from the publisher and my review is entirely voluntary.

How would you cope with dying, suddenly becoming a ghost and an undead person with mage abilities, then suddenly going through military training to get into the rangers ? Simple, Read Rachel’s story ! I never questioned The world I was transported to or the storyline as I became lost in the characters lives and struggles. Rachel has such tenacity & focus that not only did I like her, I admired the strength that Dayne Edmondson effortlessly built into the depth of Rachel’s character, this is one strong young lady you can’t help but like and cheer on in the background. It is a book that captivated my imagination and completely entertained me from start to finish. There was so many threads that was pulled together, then altered in shape by then turning them in opposite directions nearly giving you whiplash at the constant turn of events. I always mention the authors ability with realism in storylines because to me without that connection with the Characters, I loose interest very quickly. However Dayne Edmondson excelled at this part in this storyline , It was this that kept me turning the pages and reading late into the night. This book has so many aspects of genres with its Sc-Fi, fantasy, zombies and action packed scenes making the originality refreshing. I don’t leave spoilers, as I believe you should be able to enjoy this book yourself without to many details. I’m already looking forward to book.2. I would definitely recommend this book to any lover of the above mentioned genres, or anyone that is considering another genre to explore.

As you would expect from Dayne Edmonson, this is great fantasy/sci fi. Mixing Magic and science with wonderful adventure and drama, it is an easy book to fall into; much harder to put down.

Rachel was a typical seventeen year old. She had two really good friends at school. Even though her mother had died when she was very young, Rachel had an attentive and loving father. Until the day her world was turned upside down, the day she died.

Something strange is happening in school. People are becoming ill and acting crazy. The infected attack everyone else. With the help of one of her best friends, Isabelle, Rachel gets away from school and makes it home to her father.

In the scuffle at school as she tried to get to safety, Rachel is scratched. There is no cure for this ailment that has popped up all over the planet. Rachel’s only hope is her father’s words assuring her that after she dies, she will come back.

Rachel awakens to a totally different world. She is aboard a ship and one of the newly undead. She finds no one in her life is who she thought they were. Will Rachel be able to come to terms with her undead life? Where can she go from here? Do the undead go to school with the unafflicted? What does the future hold in store, not only for Rachel, but all the millions of other undead on her home planet?

I was gifted a cop of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

How does a bright-eyed teenager turn into an unstoppable undead killing machine?
Rachel was a typical sixteen-year-old high school girl on a backwater planet. After dying from a virus and rising again, Rachel discovers a secret heritage.
When her intended future is crushed, she turns to the Federation Army Rangers. She gains powers beyond her wildest dreams and becomes an unstoppable undead killing machine.
As the missions she goes on become increasingly difficult and the morality grows increasingly gray, Rachel must choose where her allegiance lies. Choose wrong and she could die permanently.

Ghost Ranger starts with a virus spreading at school. This virus doesn't cause measles, chicken pox, or even the common cold. This virus brings on the Zombie apocalypse.
This story has it all, human treason, conspiracies at high government and military level, astounding power discoveries, moral and ethical aspects abound, great battle scenes and terrifying scenarios.
Once you pick up Ghost Ranger you won't be able to put it down.
DEFINITELY NEW TWIST ON ZOMBIE GENRE!!
Recommend reading.

I really don't know how to classify this book.
On one hand it was really well written and the story has enough mistery, action and suspense to have kept my attention to the end.
On the other hand, I haven't really read any sci-fi books before - even though I love watching this kind of movies, the closest to it was on the fantasy spectrum and with a dose of romance.
That being said, I kept expecting a love interest of some kind through the book, she was a teenager after all, no luck there.
However what really made me frustrated with the book was the ending, or better yet lack of it.

In other words, if you really enjoy sci-fi, that's the book for you but be warned there's a huge cliff- hanger so you'll have to continue the series.

The basis for my 3 stars was that at the end of the book I felt like I wasted my time reading and was frustrated for not having even a clue on what's to come next.

PS: I received a free copy from this and this is my honest review.

Rachel is simply another student until a mystery virus hits her community. Many die, returning as the undead - zombies.
Some, like Rachel, receive a treatment which sadly doesn't prevent their deaths but it does leave them with an afterlife that is far superior to those who did not receive it. Rachel has new abilities that are far beyond her expectations. She becomes a Federation Army Ranger and learns ways to use her new powers to their full potential. She finds herself tackling harder and harder missions, raising many questions in her mind as to whether her actions are right and if she might lose her life as she now knows it.

Excellent reading. Rachael becomes infected with a planet wide virus. She is brought back from the dead and she then developes powers not known before.. SHe finds out that her father is the Supreme Commander of the Federation. She decides to join the military to help fight injustice and then joins the Rangers based on her talents. She finds other adventures which keeps her busy but not satisfied.

The story is very good, and the writing is tight. However, I am not at all happy with how this ebook ended. Yes, it's a cliffhanger, but on what I feel is a very negative note. However, I do encourage each reader to make their own decisions. Some will not see it the way I do, at all.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review. There are SOME spoilers below, so read at your discretion.

The good: This kept me turning the pages. There was decent and imaginative world-building and an interesting premise. There was an attack by biological agents that either killed people or turned them into undead soldiers with varying powers. The resultant surge of outrage, racism and ensuing attacks were interesting and somewhat understandable, under the circumstances. These were reasonable reactions and I wish they could have been better developed. Instead, the book went into different directions, which leads to...

The bad: I could suspend disbelief, to a degree, where the "undead" were concerned. When it veered off into magical powers, the ability to fly, harness gravity, etc., then it became pure fantasy, which is not really my genre. The main character was virtually schizophrenic and mostly not likable. She was also not really believable, in the sense that her reactions and emotions did not correspond with what a "normal undead" person would have done.

The powers got too fantastical and the book lost me. The ending seemed strained and manufactured, (which of course, it was). But it did not strike me as authentic. Yes, the book is loaded with back-stabbing and betrayal and conspiracy and intrigue. I like that stuff as much as the next person. But it needs to have a ring of truth about it. This just all seemed strained. Let's have career military people decide to go rogue...just because they feel put out. Let's kill the (somehow invincible god-like immortal leader) just because we want attention, for our cause. The last 1/4 of the book was a mess for me. It DID have an ending, of sorts, which is always a plus, when there is a series. But I really don't feel much compulsion to read the further exploits of the lost ranger.

I suppose SOME allowances need to be made because the main character MAY be a teenager. That would explain some of the 180˚ mood swings, lack of emotional control and inability to think clearly. Wait...or maybe she is just a jerk and she is not a sympathetic character. (I say this, knowing full well that she is a victim of the biological attack). Handled more reasonably, she could have been a hero, of sorts. A super hero, even. As it was, she comes across as a rebellious jerk with an unreasonable chip on her shoulder, who is intent only on lashing out at any of the grown-ups she feels have wronged her...which is most everyone.

I would normally give this 2.5 stars. I rounded up because the idea is interesting and the world-building is decent. In other words, the idea was sound, the execution flawed. The editing is generally pretty good. There were few typos or grammatical errors in this, which seems increasingly rare in the ebooks I read.
