頭蓋骨に穴を開けるトレパネーション手術によって、
人間の潜在意識がホムンクルス（化物、歪なカタチ）として
見えるようになったカーホームレスの名越は、
それが自らの心の歪みと呼応していることを知り、
封印していた過去と向き合うことを決意する。

方言や顔へのコンプレックス、下ばかり見ていた青春時代、
唯一、心を見てくれた彼女「ななこ」と付き合っていたこと、
整形手術をして外見をまったく変えたこと、数字を操り金とモノに
まみれたエリート銀行員時代、その時に寝た女の数々…
次々に過去が判明しだした途端、ホムンクルスが見えなくなった名越は、
ホムンクルスなしでは既に日常を生きられず、今度は自らの手で
再びトレパネーションを決行した。

「異形」の日常を取り戻した名越は、銀行員時代に出会った女「ななみ」と
出会う。顔がコロコロ変わるホムンクルスのななみと何度か会ううちに、
名越は彼女が、整形した後のモトカノ「ななこ」ではないか？と疑念を
抱くようになる。

様々な証拠から、「ななみ＝ななこ」であると確信を深めた名越は、
その真相を突き止めようと対峙するが…！？

Mi volumen menos favorito, el hecho de la aparición de Nanako como un hail mary/ deus ex machina ya era tonto. Darle tanta importancia y orillar a Nakoshi a alejarse de su mundo de autoexilio se me hace innecesario.

The story has become the definiton of stupid. It had a good run, but every interaction now is plain senseless. Susumu doesn't have a direction like before, Manabu doesn't have interesting revelations, the new chick in the cast is completely unnatural in both behavior and dialogue (and the way she runs is ridiculous). The well of ideas has run dry. Why don't they just end a series on a high note? No, they have to get paid, so they dilute their solid premise with crap filler.

Manabu heals Susumu, once again proving, if we needed more proof, that he is in fact the saner, more likeable character. Susumu, with his new aperture fully healed in 2 days (Manabu does wonders, apparently), follows the many-faced Nanami to the 47th floor of the hotel. Yes, I noticed the reference to 47, duh! I see what you tried to do there, creators. Sadly, it won't cut the mustard.

Nanami brings Susumu a ton of hamburgers. The originality is startling. Manabu again engages Susumu without anybody asking him to. Why he doesn't forget about the bum with holes in his head is beyond me. Nanami keeps coming back into the picture and even invites Susumu in her apartment for some nonsensical dialogue about clouds and lying and kissing. But nothing else, you sickos. She is a lady. Susumu then talks with Manabu who wants to look into Nanami's past for no discernable reason. Doesn't this guy have cross-dressing to do?

L'omuncolo di Nanako si presenta in modo del tutto unico: il suo viso è una superficie instabile e senza lineamenti definiti, un collage mutante dei volti di tutte le donne con cui Nakoshi è stato in passato.
Più la conversazione si fa profonda e più la ragazza mente o cerca di nascondere la propria vulnerabilità, più la sua deformazione visiva si accentua. Nakoshi capisce che Nanako, proprio come lui, ha distrutto e ricostruito la propria identità per fuggire da ciò che era.

Si scopre un dettaglio fondamentale sulla psiche di Nanako: pur non essendosi mai sottoposta a trepanazione, possiede un'incredibile sensibilità artistica e psicologica che le permette di "percepire" la vera natura delle persone e tradurla in disegni.
Prima che Nakoshi si rifacesse i lineamenti, Nanako vedeva la sua psiche come una "nuvola bianca"; ritrovandolo anni dopo, disegna la sua essenza come una sorta di fantasma/uovo nero privo di lineamenti (noppera-bō). Questo conferma che Nakoshi, sotto la maschera della chirurgia plastica, si è svuotato di ogni umanità.


Nakoshi così si ritrova confuso dalla situazione e non ha la convinzione al 100% di aver identificato la donna, mentre intanto Nanako continua a farsi gioco di lui.

This manga series is about a homeless man, Nakoshi, who has trepanation surgery and can see homunculi. As the reader, we aren't sure yet if these are real representations of a person's inner heart and shown through the sixth sense, or if these are all an illusion. We are given hints that it is real but also are given doubts due to the deteriorating mental health of Nakoshi and his compulsive lying. At the end of the last volume, Nakoshi had gone to very dangerous lengths to get back his sixth sense.

In Volume 13, Ito and Nakoshi investigate the woman with the face-changing homunculus. Nakoshi believes she could be his ex-girlfriend, the only one who saw him when he was "ugly." However, she looks and acts nothing like his ex.

Humanity is obsessed with celebrating deception and lies. It's all a deception about money, wealth, and so on. Empty. Nothing. We lie because the truth can be the most terrible thing in the world at times. We lie to protect ourselves emotionally. We lie to protect ourselves from the harsh realities of life. The reality about us. Isn't everything a lie? Where can you find the truth? What distinguishes me as a human being? What keeps me going every day. I won't know the answer since you are the only one who can. You hold the key to the solution. But who are you if not you? Where can you go if you don't have yourself? Never lose sight of who you are. Be the person you've always wanted to be.

Teorias 🤯🤯

Acho que o Sr. Nakoshi ainda tenta se conhecer/conectar consigo mesmo por meio dos homúnculos.

E a mulher com quem ele acha que se parece com a ex, Nanako, só confirma que ele está ainda mais confuso.

A minha teoria é que, no último volume, será revelado que tudo o que ele passou não passou de um sonho ou flashback antes da morte.
