One-Eyed Marshal Jack Black is now posted in Cochise County in southeastern Arizona. The official marshal of Pierce City. As justice is sometimes blind, the two outlaws, Billy Stiles and Bert Alvord, whom Jack and his three lawmen buddies captured and sent to Prescott prison, had finagled their way out of jail and were granted a governor's pardon. The outlaws had every judge in the county in their pockets. So now Jack, with the help of two sheriffs and a marshal, heads back out to end these outlaws' reign of thieving and killings. The Alvord-Stiles gang kidnaps Harold Stampede and his wife, Emma, to seek revenge on Jack, but the old lawman is determined to save them from certain death.
Ash Lingam was born and raised in Southern Ohio, not far from the mighty Ohio River. He had somewhat of an isolated upbringing on a family farm with his sisters. His best friends were his horse, Sugar, and his grandfather. Born in 1886, the family patriarch grew crops, raised cattle, and doted on the young boy. At his grandfather’s side, Ash learned about livestock and firearms at an early age. His grandad carried an old Colt with him at all times, helping spawn a young boy’s dreams of yesteryear. Ash was only eight years old when his grandad taught him how to trap muskrats to prevent them from draining the farm’s ponds. He gave him a double-barreled shotgun at twelve and taught him how to hunt to put food on the table. It wasn’t long before Ash was breaking horses. His spirited Tennessee Walker never allowed any other rider on her back. Together, they searched through the plowed fields in the spring, looking for Miami Indian arrowheads to add to his grandfather’s ample collection. Ash’s family was among the early settlers in pre-Revolutionary America. He has traced his lineage back to around 1746 when his ancestors immigrated from Europe to the aspiring American Colonies. A retired marketing executive, Ash devotes his spare time to training police dogs and writing novels. He has found his niche in the Western, historical fiction, and adventure genres. With his vast vault of experience, he never runs out of sources for new stories. He has lived in eleven different countries and worked in a total of forty-six, To date, Ash has written approximately 130 novels, short stories, and poems. More than one hundred of his eclectic titles help the American frontier come alive for his readers.
This is the first book of Marshal Jack "One Eyed"Black on the war path hunting two fake marshals who led double lives of lawmen and robbers. These two marshals/owlhoots were paying bribes to many high up in the state territory to look the other way when these men and their gang headed Alvord/Styles had judges, lawyers at their neck and call. Marshal Jack Black has just found out that the two were sentenced to thirty years each, but paroled after nine months by the the crooked Governor of Arizona Territory. Marshal Jack Black and his three compardres are on the hunt for these men. This time there will not be any trials, these men will either be shoot down or hanged, Marshal Jack Black and his other hard nosed, hard riding, hard living that many lawmen faced during those forming days of the West. They did hang a woman named Naomi Less whose husband ran with the first gang of Alvord/Styles, so there was no love lost for Marshal Jack Black, so they hung her..Such is life. Hope to read more about Marshal Jack "One Eyed"Black, he's a colorful character and I hope that he and Gloria Sanchez get hooked, she seems like the sort of lady the Marshal needs. Everyone needs someone, but some never get the chance to achieve that soul partner. U know that second chance which can evaporate in the blink of an eye..whoosh
Once again Ash Libyan offers a great work of fiction. This book does have a few typos that manage to throw off the story at times, but it is a great story. Fast paced, well told, and for the most part easy to read. Read book 3 first and then enjoy Justified.
This was an excellent story that keeps getting better as it goes along. The story is filled with action and adventure from start to finish. The author has shown all of you that enjoy a good read, what it means.
Ash Lingam does it again Marshal Black is becoming one of my favorite characters, and Lingam's storytelling IMO is some of the best I have yet to read a bad book from him
