A good prequel to "Escape and Endurance". This short story covers many years, but sets the stage for the next book in the series. Like the rest of these books, this one had a several good messages and was well written.

This felt less like a stand-alone story and more like a prologue to Escape and Endurance, but I'm sure the background information will be helpful. :) I did find it a little odd that Dresden goes straight from assuring Christopher that his daughter's rebellion isn't his fault to deciding that he's somehow failed Edna because she hasn't absorbed his lessons...

Looking forward to reading Edna and Andrew's full story!

2.5 stars & 3/10 hearts. It hurts to rate a Sarah Holman book less than 3 stars. It hurts even more to rate a Taelis book less than 3 stars. But I really didn’t love this one. It was nice to see Andrew and the other characters before “Escape & Endurance,” & there was a good lesson, though.

Listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it! :) It makes me really look forward to reading Escape and Endurance!

Yeah, OK I should have read this before Escape and Endurance. My bad. Its a good prequel to the story which introduces a couple of the characters. I still can't quite accept the name Dresden for the priest. That's a city in Germany as far as I'm concerned, but don't let that put you off the book.

I only had one complaint with this book. The criticism of the Medieval Catholic church was very pronounced in this (albeit very short) book. With one priest telling another to avoid letting traditions and practices take over from scripture.

OK, I understand this book is written by a modern evangelical, but even as a Protestant myself, I tend not to favour such depictions unless there is a good reason or historical basis for the. Otherwise it just seems like imposing modern ideas onto the past.
