New paranormal audiobook. Fangs for Nothing is a mystery vampire series. This is the first book. We have a few pieces coming together but there is hint of more to the story in future books.
Vampire, Lucy is almost engaged but waiting to commit. When a new case falls at her feet she finds there may be more to her family than she realised, which includes her husband to be. A cat turns up on her doorstep which is only the first part of the puzzle. Lucy must get her head around the strange events before she can work out how she wants to spend her future.
The narrator for this book has done a few of Laura greenwood and Arizona Tapes books. She’s good and has a nice accent.
I enjoyed this book.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fangs For Nothing stays a little too superficial for my liking, it's like the story is the blander version of something flavourful.
Lucy is a little immature for the age bracket she is supposed to be, we don't really get to see much from her to see enough characterisation. Of the three guys seen in the book, William reads the most intriguing as compared to the other two guys who are just more or less defined by brief conversations. I guess the interactions keep the book from falling completely flat because everything else is..simple, a little too plain. The repeated inner monologues gets boring and feels like just some padding to add more pages to an already short book.
The mystery aspect intrigued me the most but the case is very bland, there is no smooth transition from it being a ridiculous thing to something serious. There is not enough content to show towards the case and then to have that end bit just to create some hook for the next book fails when I don't end up caring towards the so called mystery that's bare bones at best.
The book feels like it takes itself too casually, it doesn't want to really focus on the case or the romance. I like the humour aspect but I just needed a little more from the plot and characters to add much needed content.
I think I wanted something more than what this book provided. It ended up feeling a little bland it in essence was littler more than a prequel setting up the rest of the series. Nothing really happens and the book never truly has a focus. The mystery, while intriguing felt disjointed and unfinished. There was no true transition from it being a ridiculous search for a boring watch, to something that should be taken seriously, so it just ends up feeling like the barest bones of a mystery that we're supposed to solve in the next book.
Lucy herself was hard to follow for me to enjoy. She comes off as a little immature and was annoying at the beginning of the book. She did get more bearable as the story went on, but I'm still not convinced that she's going to be one of my new favorite characters.
Fangs For Nothing is the first book in the Vampire For Hire series.
Lucinda Corentine aka Lucy, is fun and captivating PI. The unexpected addition to the household in the form of a fluff ball was a cute and perfect add in.
Of course the men in this story can’t be forgotten, they are all easily identifiable from each other. William, Derek and Jonas, they all bring something to both the story and Lucy’s life and I can’t wait to read more about the building relationships.
I highly recommend the newest urban fantasy/paranormal mystery from Laura Greenwood & Arizona Tape.
Side note: Fangs For Hire is part of the Twin Souls Universe but these are not required to be read first.
This tale was interesting and was a good first book in a new series. It does end on a sort of cliffhanger in the sense that there are questions left unanswered. Its does make me want to know what comes next for these characters, though.
Yes! A new series by this author to keep my nose buried in a book. I totally enjoyed Lucinda Corentine aka Lucy as a captivating and fun PI. I constantly laughed at how she dealt the punishment to her almost fiance William due to his late proposal to her. I mean keeping him at arms length for a hundred years for proposing a year late kept me chuckling every time it was brought up. I enjoyed the slow burn of this book which is rather shocking to me because slow burns usually bore me to death. I can not wait to read What the Fangs!!!

Lucy Corentine was a highborn vampire private investigator living in and working from her grandmother’s old Manor. Her phone rang, but it was William asking her if she was coming home and if she would marry him. He had proposed a year late to her, so she was not going to marry him… yet. He was everything she wanted in a husband, but he had to realize the seriousness of his mistake and waiting 100 years was a proper price to pay. However, he would call again next week. He always did.
An email came in from Derek who had another of his weapon inventions for her to test. A previous one was a portable guillotine which had almost sliced her head off when it misfired. As with all of his inventions, she hid it in the basement and hoped that one of the other testers would tell him how awful it was.
The phone rang again and, after a short silence, a man gave her a riddle to solve and hung up. Heading back to the kitchen, she had to instead check on who was knocking on her door. All she saw was a cardboard box on the porch. If this was another odd gift from William, it was going up in the attic with the rest of his goofy gifts – unless it was a bomb or severed head, of course. But when the box meowed, she was too curious and opened it up. A blind black cat leaped out and ran into the house! Her biggest mystery now was: is the cat a boy or girl? Naming it Jester, she decided to take it to the vet in a giant handbag William had given her. (I hoped the chapter would not describe what I knew would happen when she tried to get the cat into the bag!)
Derek came by with a new gadget to test, and the two of them teased and flirted with each other. Derek liked her new cat, Jester. When Lucy went off to bed, the gadget woke her up. She went to silence it, but she returned and found a man in her bedroom named Jonas who said he was sent by William. She kept trying to throw him out, asking him to come back in the morning, knock on the door, and ask for whatever he thought she could help him with. He said he couldn’t, but could get her some B+ blood which perked her interest as she sent him downstairs to wait for her. When he told her he needed to find an item, and she asked what kind, he answered “A lost item”. No, this interview wasn’t going well at all. Asking for more specifics, he said it was a watch; and what did it look like? “… a watch!” She continued grinding her teeth and decided to refer him to someone she hated the most. After asking for a description, he took out his phone and showed her a picture! He couldn’t have started with that?? So asking if he knew where he had it last, she already expected his answer: “No.”
The hunt for the watch was not moving along very well. With the riddle, the appearance of a blind cat, and all the other strange pieces of her life not investigated, what momentous event was coming her way? Did she have a clue? And why was William giving her permission to date? And what is she supposed to do with a blood slave? There has to be a mystery in here somewhere, right?
This was a crazy, funny, enjoyable start to the series. I enjoy the snarky character of Lucy, her interactions with the other characters in her life, her anger management issues, and the humor woven throughout the book. The story line is well-paced as the reader is led along in the mysteries she brushes against and generally ignores. But something is building up, and you need to grab your copy of the book to find out what’s going on! Be ready for the cliffhanger – you know this is the first book. If it ended here, who would read the next one? So catch up with the fun and be ready for Book 2!
Lucy, a vampire, is one hundred twenty-six years old. Her almost-fiance, William, was one year late proposing, so she has kept him at arms length for the last one hundred years as punishment, wearing his ring on a chain around her neck. Their engagement was arranged by their parents, but Lucy loves everything about William and knows she will marry him one day. They have agreed to wait for marriage, so they have never gone beyond a brief kiss.
Her biggest problem seems to be her rejection of her family, and her mother in particular. Lucy moved out of her family home and into her grandmother's manor, where she works as a PI. Most of her cases are referred to her from William - friends with missing keys or lost bills. Here, Lucy gets another such case, but the facts don't add up in the end.
Lucy uses the sevices of a gadget inventor and friend, Derek. They often flirt, but only when William comes to stay with Lucy does she think of Derek as anything more than goofy.
Lucy sometimes crosses paths with Watt, a childhood best friend turned nemesis. He is also a PI, albeit a successful one. He enjoys telling Lucy how much better he is than her.
Lucy was adorable and the banter was enjoyable, especially with William.
*Spoilers* However, Lucy came across as a teen or pre-teen, as did the simpicity of the story. Since there were mature subjects touched upon that many would think twice about introducing to their teen or pre-teen, it felt off. Also, it was very hard to accept some parts of the story. Although Lucy and William haven't had a physical relationship for one hundred years, they honor the engagement and one another. William loses his cool when he suspects Lucy has been dating Derek (understandable given he has been faithful and abstinent one hundred years). He then turns around and gives Lucy permission to date other people as long as she tells him - and he will continue to sit back and wait on her. Note that she didn't ask for this. One has to believe that if Lucy and William had begun a physical relationship that she wouldn't have looked a little too long at Derek. Lucy had been suppressing her feelings for William so long that it comes as no surprise she begins to notice other people - especially while William is visiting and she is faced with temptation because of his presence. The simple solution was there - that Lucy and William finally pursue their own relationship, but instead a more risky route was opened up. It felt contrived.
I would have really like this had it been either geared more toward teens and pre-teens (I think this would be easier to pull off), or toward an adult audience. It felt like it straddled both, but fails due to briefly touched upon mature subject matter.

This is book one of The Vampire Detective series and the main character is Lucy (Lucinda) Corentine, who works for herself as a Private Detective (P.I.). She is engaged to be married to William Williamsborough III and has been for the last one hundred years, an arrangement their parents came up with. She has refused to set a wedding date with him but does love him and knows that she will agree to marry him one day, she just isn’t ready to yet. They both come from the elite of vampire society, but Lucy wanted a life away from being an heiress and debutante, after her grandmother named her as her heir, instead of her mother! She gets a strange phone call one day, with a man asking her a puzzle, to which she doesn’t know the answer. When a box arrives the next day, she doesn’t connect the two, and on opening it finds a black cat with no eyes.
She has a vampire friend called Derek, who always insists on getting her to try out his new inventions, and leaves her with his latest protective invention, the DDD. When it wakes her up in the middle of the night, he finds a strange vampire called Jonas in her bedroom, supposedly wanting to hire her to find something for him. He says he is a friend of William’s and she was recommended to help him find a watch he had lost, that supposedly belonged to his human wife. It should have been a fairly easy case, with an expensive looking watch of sentimental value, but something is seriously wrong with her case and Jonas isn’t providing her any of the correct answers. When she asks William for help, he comes to stay but is distracted by the presence of her friend Derek, who brings out his jealous side. The two vampires, from completely different ends of the social, seem to bring out the worst of each other around Lucy and try to outdo themselves to gain her attention. A fun storyline with some unusual relationships and a drunken mistake at the end which brings more problems! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
I already wrote that the Vampires are back and so are my Vampire moods. Once in a while I just wanna read about vampires. Or I wanna watch series with Vampires. I just want Vampires. So, after that successful Vampire experience yesterday, I was like: Why not try another one? And it happened that I had a very nice one lined up: A Vampire Detective one. Which means it was not gonna feed just one, but two of my current cravings.
And let me start with saying that I really loved loved loved this book! In this book the detective part was not that prominent yet. It's quite clear that Luce has a little trouble finding clients and cases. And the case in this book seems a little lame at first, at least Luce agrees with that, but it doesn't take long before we, and the characters, realize that there might probably be much more to this case. And I can't wait to find out more in the next two books!
However, this book really shows us the vampire society, the rules concerning this vampires and the kind of family Luce has. And even though it's world building and introduction, I really enjoyed this version of a vampire world. Although it had quite a few classic elements, it also brought something original. I kind of liked the entire conflict between the older generation, still with both feet in the Dracula age, and the younger generation, ready to be more and do more and see the world in a different light.
But, although the world building was awesome and the promise of a great mystery was lovely, it were the guys really making the book for me. I laughed out loud so much! The three guys we met in this story were so different and unique and I kinda fell in love with all of them, but it was mostly their interaction that I enjoyed most. This is the kind of tension and battle I like in my reverse harem novels! (I mean, this is one? Right?) I can't wait to see so much more of them in the other two books!
I have really mixed feelings about writing this review, because on the one hand I enjoyed the author’s humorous writing style (as well as the narrator of the audiobook version’s tone) but on the other it felt like this first installment was a whole lot of nothing happening. Which was disappointing because I was really excited to finally find a RH detective/PI/mystery series on audio, something the niche genre of RH is sorely lacking… but the mystery part felt like the FMC wasn’t invested in the PI work until suddenly it became serious, but you don’t really get to see/hear what flipped the switch? The tone just suddenly shifted as did her attitude towards it.
In addition to the lack of investment, there is a complete lack of heat, let alone spice. I wouldn’t even consider this slowburn, the romance is so buried. The FMC mentally discusses her attraction to who I’m assuming will make up her harem at some point, William (her betrothed), Derek (work friend?) and Watson (childhood bestie turned rival), but otherwise there wasn’t much. She toyed with them a good bit too which isn’t my normal taste. The only hint we get towards this being a RH (aside from where it resides in the charts) is when William tells her that he’s okay with her potentially dating other people because he wants her to be happy and fulfilled, and he hopes that she’ll always come back to.
I’m going to listen to the next one… well, probably the rest of the trilogy if I’m being honest because I hate loose ends and unanswered questions; but I can’t say I would recommend the series as it stands, based on this singular book. There’s also a hefty cliffy.
This book opens with Lucy having a phone conversation with her sort of fiancé William Williamsbourgh III. The conversation appears to be routine for them, he asks if she's coming home soon, followed by is she ready to marry him yet. Apparently he was a day late in asking and she's still holding it against him almost a hundred years later. While that's not a bad start to her day it's about to go downhill. First her blood supply is the wrong type and she's paying too much for that to happen, followed by a mysterious caller with a riddle, then a package is delivered out of nowhere. As she debates the possible contents she lists some of Williams gifts. I started giggling and really didn't stop for a while. The package contained one very quick fur ball of black cat.
We meet her friend Derek, the one William had referred to as someone she might be dating. Then a friend of William's shows up in the middle of the night wanting her help to find a watch.
It's that case that is going to open up a whole can of worms and also has her working with a childhood friend Watson Xavier Smith.
There's a lot going on in this book and it's so much fun. I laughed out loud many times especially where William and either Derek or Watson were involved. Lucy is certainly in over her head.
It's the ending of this book that had me immediately buying the next one. Oh my!
Not your typical Vampire Lucinda a vampire and private investigator, she left her family to be out on her own to prove herself a great PI, she takes on a case to find a lost item that leads her on a path of hidden secrets and agendas. While juggling her personal life of conflicted feelings with a disgruntled mother, a fiancé she holding off on, a close “friend” and a childhood friend that comes back in her path. Will she be with the man she loves? Will she explore new feelings? Will she find out what really is behind this lost item? Fangs for Nothing is story with love or lust triangle, a tad jealousy, strong characters and mystery’s to be solved. A cat that appears in box, William, her promised love and patient gentleman, Derek, her flirting friend with crazy inventions and an old childhood friend and rival private investigator, Watson. Love the character builds and Lucy’s rumbling to herself, snarky comments and curiosity, definitely had me giggling at times. Good story-line and writing, fun and alluring, cliff hanger is present and want to know what happens next and how the characters evolve together in the next book, excited for that. A good read overall. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Funny Furballs
What a brilliantly fun read! It engages you right from the start, with the bizarre romances starting to build up in what I can only imagine is likely to have a RH finish. But, we don’t quite get there in this first book… It is short, fun, exciting, but at the end tells you very much that it is to be read as part of a series, as it ends on a cliffhanger with plenty of unanswered questions.
The most major unanswered question for me was, what was that bizarre phone call in the beginning, and why did Lucy not think about it again or even figure it out…? There are still plenty of mysteries to be solved, but this book doesn’t even broach the subject in the blurb – vampires as a species in trouble?! We hear none of that!
One thing I am very glad of is that the romance didn’t boil up too quickly, that there was no immediate bed hopping – with such a short story, unless it is specifically only about the romance, that can be very unrealistic.
All in all, quite enjoyable, and I am leg-hopping for the sequel!!
From the title, Fangs For Nothing (The Vampire Detective #1), I expected the story to be a detective, thriller, suspense with some paranormal/supernatural action kind of story. It is not. The detective part seems to be just something the main female character, Lucy, does to occupy her time. Most of her cases are sent to her by her fiance, William, who she is estranged from and has been for 100 years. They are vampires, so time is a bit relative. The story has some witty elements, but all in all, it seems to be geared toward teens rather than adults or young adults. Then again, it does have some adult themes, so it may not be appropriate for teens. I am not sure what audience the book captures, and it wasn't easy to stay engaged. For these reasons, I could not rate the book higher.
There is little to no suspense in the storyline and no great mysteries to solve. There is romance but from an angsty perspective. The characters are fun and likable. I will read the other two books in the series and see where this goes.

Lucinda, William, Dereck and Watson.... quite the characters! Lucinda (Lucy) and William are sort of engages, Dereck is the guy who makes cool gadgets for Lucy and Watson is another PI who she does not get on well with. In this story Williams has been sending people her way with jobs to locate missing things... not real PI cases but she appreciates the thought behind the case. She really does love William but is not ready to settle down. Between the trio of guys now wanting her attention Lucy finds the watch in question but it ends up leading to more questions. Oh my goodness don't forget her new blind cat that was given to her.... not sure why yet or who it came from but he's lurking around the mansion and loves belly scratches from the guys! The lil cutie has wiggled his way into Lucy's heart. This was a fun read and there are 2 more to go! Looking forward to the book 2 and hoping it answers a few more questions!!! Enjoy!

This first book in the Vampire Detective series is an amazing read. You've got humor, supernatural, steamy romance and a mystery. Great world building has been done. Fantastic characters that you want to read about and they are very engaging. Love the plot and story line. Must read the next one now. Recommend reading.

Lucinda was a vampire and a PI. She is formally almost engaged to William, really good friends with inventor Derek, received a blind cat as a gift and avoids contact with other vampires when possible. She was given a referral for a new client from William but something feels off. So the mystery begins.
This is a wonderfully written cozy vampire mystery. The characters are interesting, well developed, slightly odd and funny. The storyline like most mysteries is littered with twists, turns and surprises as Lucy tries to navigate both the mystery and her complicated personal life. The narrative is hilarious and the dialogue is too. It is an easy, lighthearted story that brightens your day. It is the first in a series so do not expect the full story to be completed at the end. This book has definitely left me wanting more.

Lucy has been engaged to William for 100 years - he waited a year too long to propose, so she is making him wait. Derek has been her friend forever - but lately, there may have been feelings developing for both of them. William does give he permission to date Derek as well - as long a she tells him about it. Lucy is given a mission in her job as a Private Investigator, but it turns out to be much more that was appearing on the surface. When William buys her a blood slave, Lucy really doesnt know how to cope - she doesnt believe in them! A bit of a cliff hanger ending - what will Lucy do about the slave? What will come of what she has discovered about Jonas's watch? A funny story, with a bit of mystery and a fair bit of what i saw as tongue in cheek romance - Loved it!

Lucy owns a P.I business and when she came of age her so called fiancée William should of proposed to her he didn’t he waited 100 years but now it’s too late she keeps knocking him back it will take another 100 years just to forgive him. Lucy hasn’t been getting any clients for her P.I work then her phone rings Lucy thought that it was William but it wasn’t it was a man with a riddle he said what has 4 legs and no eyes then he hung up. There was a knock on her door so Lucy answered and saw a box on her porch she thought that it was a bomb but then it meowed, Lucy opened the box and a black cat jumped out it didn’t have any eyes it would of been ok if she was a witch but she’s not she’s a vampire what the hell was going to happen next. Fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
“Fangs for Nothing” is the first book in “The Vampire Detective” series by Laura Greenwood, a paranormal romance harem serious set in the author’s “Twins Souls Universe”.
Lucinda Corentine (Lucy) is a highborn vampire P.I. who lived in and worked for her grandmother’s manor, and can really hold a grudge. At one-hundred-and-twenty-six, he has been punished her almost fiancé (William) the last one-hundred years for the audacity to propose a year too late… sometimes she may be come a little spoiled and self-centered by she is surely fun. The chaotic fun turns on a notch with the addition of a new guy (Derek) and her school nemesis (Watson) who also happens to be a P.I.
I a nice, easy-to-read, and funny read, and even if Lucy sometimes acts a little immature, please remember that she is 126yrs old, people were different one hundred years ago, or were they not 😉
This is not normally the type of book I read, but I thought why not? I am so glad I gave this a try as I was drawn into this story from the beginning. The characters are something else and I cannot stop laughing. Even though Lucy is a 126 year old vampire, she acts like a teenager at times. William (fiancée, not fiancée), Derek (inventor/friend) and Watson (childhood friend) all seem to like Lucy and Lucy seems to have feelings for all 3. The book ends in a cliffhanger and has me wondering who is being real with Lucy and who is using Lucy.
This is the first book I have read from Laura Greenwood and I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series as well as other books. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy through Booksprout ARC’s for an honest review.
This was a funny and crazy enjoyable start to the series. It's about Lucinda/ Lucy, a vampire and private investigator who left her family to be out on her own to prove herself a great PI. With a path full of hidden secrets and agendas, she takes on a case to find a lost item. Meanwhile, she struggles with a conflicting personal life with a disgruntled mother, a fiancé she clings to, a good 'friend' and a childhood friend who comes back on her path. Will she be with the man she loves? Will she discover new feelings? Will she discover what is really behind this lost item? I enjoyed Lucy's sneaky nature and her interactions with the other characters in her life. Her problem with controlling her anger and especially the humor that is woven throughout the book. Our heroine has a case that means a lot both to her career and vampires in general. Of course, that also means it is important to those who oppose her...
This is book one of the series which is, of course, a good place to start.
This is a paranormal reverse harem story with a vampire heroine. The story is well written and easy to read and provides an excellent introduction to the characters. The cast is diverse, each with their own agenda and pretty much all of them interested in our heroine. It also provides a far introduction to the setting, although there is a lot more to it than shown here. Overall, a fun and intriguing start to our story. I am definitely looking forward to more.
Highly recommended.

A fishy client, two men fighting over her, and mystery gifts being sent to her. Her fiancé William put her in touch with a friend who needs to find something. A watch that was owned by his deceased wife. But the watch is a dime a dozen and nothing special about it. Why does he want it found? Something is fishy about him. In her quest to find it she ends up bringing her friend Derek into the search, she runs into her former friend Watson who ignored her for years, and she has to go to a soiree put on by her mother. Along with the case she’s working on there is also a mystery about where the gifts she’s been receiving are coming from. She hasn’t opened them but they’re filling up a room.William is her fiancé so who is sending all these gifts? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Really enjoyed reading this book and could not put it down from start to finish. A good start to the series, the story was well thought out, brilliantly written and the characters were fantastically developed with great chemistry.
A great start to a paranormal mystery series filled with humour, magic, mystery, intrigue, deception, action, enemies, friendship, romance, obstacles to overcome, plenty of blind twists and a fantastic ending making you want to pick up the next book. Very well written, intriguing characters with hidden depths, secrets and brilliant chemistry all wrapped up in in an imaginatively gripping storyline.
I cannot wait to find out what happens next as the series continues. I hope to read plenty more books by Laura Greenwood in the future.

Vampire Lucy is one hundred and twenty-six, however, she gives off twenty-six-year-old vibes, but that's no reason not to like her. She's doing the best she can after finally freeing herself from her mother-from-down-under.
Among other fun gifts, she's given an aloof blind cat and a mystery to solve, but this young-ish PI is still gaining sluth training. While she stumbles through the puzzling problem of a missing unremarkable watch, Lucy's love life becomes a remarkably bigger conundrum.
This cozy, fantasy mystery has a diverse set of characters with hints of a possible reverse harem later on, with mild romantic inclinations. William and Derek are a hard pair to choose a favorite from. Both are magnificent menches.
This is my first Laura/Arizona book. I'll be revisiting this author duo in the future.
I listened to the audiobook version. The narrator is rather good!
Lucinda is a one hundred and twenty six old and has separated from her family and the vampire community because she wants to be something other than one of the uppity noble families. She has made her way as a private detective but she not doing all that well but she still has a semi fiancee' she has to deal with along with her once best friend Watson and her new friend Derek who want to date her. Luce finds herself on a new case but something is very wrong as well as whats going wrong at home where she lives with her grandmother who lives in the basement. Enjoyed the story line as well a the characters were pretty interesting for a vampire story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fun, lighthearted vampire cozy with a slightly ditzy lead who has quite the interesting love life. Lucy is a PI, and there is a case for her in this book, but something doesn't seem right about it. Most of the story revolves around her love life which is quickly becoming very complicated. A fiance she has been putting off for 100 years, an inventor friend who wants more, a a childhood best friend all vying for her attention. This is a slow burn RH and stays clean.
It is the first book in a series and there is quite of bit of world building and stage setting for things to come. There are a few mystery left unsolved and questions left unanswered at the end of this book. There is also a HUGE cliffhanger bombshell dropped in the last page. Yep, I dove right into book 2.
