I have always loved a good mystery. From my early years watching Murder She Wrote to more recent shows like Monk, Psych, and my absolute favorite BBC show ever, Sherlock, I have studied what it takes to make an entertaining mystery. I am truly blessed to be able to write and share my own mysteries with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I loved writing them :)
Who is your editor! I really had a hard time reading with the way the sentences were worded in places. If you need someone to read your works before publishing let me know.
Ruby has to pass her first test to be allowed in the coven and so she practices a freeze spell which goes wrong and freezes Geri, the head of the coven, and none of the other witches were able to reverse it. At the same time, there is a murder in Old Swift Town period costume village. With Vicky, her best friend who has been helping her with her learning her witch powers as well as helping Ruby in her Private Investigation agency they try to find out who murdered Beth's friend, Teresa, the actress in the Swift Town play. With Ruby and Vicky going undercover in the village, so many things happen. We are treated to some nasty and vindictive people who are so jealous about everything would they resort to murder? And then there is trying to reverse the freeze spell that has poor Geri stuck in Prudence's living room. Where else should we put her? Such a comedy of errors has you trying to figure out who murdered Teresa, what is going on in Swift Town? Can Geri be unfrozen or will Prudence take over the lead of the coven? This is a fun and fast paced read that has you laughing throughout! I received an ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
An okay read that got just a tad silly as it went on. The plot behind it was a good one. A spell used haphazardly, revenge and angst that led to murder but it just got more irritating as I read. The characters are flighty, kooky and slightly unbelievable. A new case. Murder! It has been ignored by everyone except a friend of the victim. But first she has to pass her first exam. An exam that goes wrong when the spell she casts can't be reversed. But life goes on and she now has to work on getting a job at the park where the murder occurred. Backstabbing, victimisation and sabotage whilst someone from the past looks on. Can she find the killer? Can her spell be reversed?
I absolutely love cozy mysteries, especially those that have witches and familiars. What I enjoy most about the book is that Ms. Alabaster really put a new spin on the witch genre. It is great to read a story that brings a lot of reality I to it while still keeping it "witchy". The storyline was great and unexpected. Looking forward to more books!
I really enjoyed this second installment in this series. The mystery was a tricky one that I didn't figure out--there were some good red herrings. There was a little side mystery going on at Old Swift Town as well as Ruby needing to figure out a murder for her new client. She had some personal witchy problems going on as well.
After this second book, I found myself wanting to read more, so I'll be eventually borrowing the third book from Kindle Unlimited too.
Wil Ruby ever learn how to become a witch who can do spells? A murder has been committed and Ruby is hired to find the killer. Who can it be, there are so many suspects that the pool is full of them. A fun and fast reading experience. You will enjoy this crazy story and its many twists and turns.
Not a bad read but lacking some information here and there. I have read a lot worse. Good for a light afternoon's reading. I was given this book to read for free and am happy to give my honest review
