Alpha Pack #4

Hunter's Heart

Rate this book
Ryon Hunter sees dead people - spirits that beg him for help in ways he can't understand. He'd do anything to end the torment, until a beautiful spirit appears to him with a plea he can't ignore: Help me . . . I'm alive. The woman is wildlife biologist Daria Bradford, mortally wounded after encountering a white wolf, calling to Ryon through a rare Psy gift.

When Ryon locates Daria in the Shoshone National Park, it is almost too late, but nursing her back to health at the Alpha Pack compound brings a new complication - Daria is his destined mate, and Ryon is afraid of what will happen when she discovers what he is and what he had to do to save her life. But the biggest threat of all is still loose in the forest, leaving a merciless trail of death behind it. The Alpha Pack goes on the hunt for the mysterious white wolf, determined to stop the murderous rogue . . . only to find that the most lethal creature of all is the one they can't see coming.

I'm so pleased I decided to continue the series after the let down of Kalen's book because Hunter's Heart was absolutely amazing! Loved the whole story!

(2 stars = ok) Well, I like the idea of the Alpha Pack series - a group of ex SEAL shifters with psychic powers who protect the world from other paranormals behaving badly (and who find their mates along the way) and even though I was sort of on the fence with the two books that I've read in this series, the opening to this story was so page turning that I had to buy the book after I reached the end of the sample.

The beginning was great, and in itself I didn't have a problem with the fact that Daria's ability to astral project and the mate bound between her and Ryon both smooth the way to a connection between the pair early on but with a lack a good internal conflict between pair the novel length Hunter's Heart had the heart of a short story padded with a bunch of smex scenes.

For me less is more, while quantity in itself isn't a death knell me (because I know how to skim when the repetition gets boring), some of those scenes were stupid ones - like when overnighting in the woods with bad guys hunting them, or when he's compromised due to a serious injury - that just irked me. Though I guess when I look back, I am more bothered that Dara doesn't use her cool power for anything ever again (past the opening of the story) and she becomes pretty one note and flat character-wise by the end as well.

I did like Ryon as a character and there were some a couple good interactions between him and the rest of his fellow Alpha pack group early on - thinking on this makes me realize that is another thing that I found lacking is that there is this interesting group of guys in the background and if Dara and Ryon had spent more time with the rest of the 'crew' or if Tyler dropped a smex scene or two (there were six or so) and spent a bit more time developing sequel bait, I think I'd have been happier with this Alpha pack installment.

So, as good as these stories start out it may just be that this series is just not a good fit for me, but it's hard for me to remember that when the teaser for the next one looks good too.

My Review:
This entire series is just simply good. It's a great mix of paranormal shifter magic and military action-adventure suspense that hits all my hot buttons for the kind of story that I enjoy.

This particular book features Ryon, a wolf shifter who also can see ghosts, and Daria, who is a wildlife biologist studying the habits of wolves in the Shoshone Nat'l Park. They meet under unusual circumstances...they are mates and both gravely wounded at the beginning of the book before they ever actually meet. But their spirits connect and Ryon ends up saving Daria's life...and the book goes from there as Daria very slowly learns about Ryon and the entire Alpha Pack world...something that isn't known to normal people. They don't realize paranormal creatures really exist.

Daria has other ties to this world, too, that she doesn't realize until she gets involved with Ryon and the Alpha Pack. Her uncle is one of those bad guys that the AP is out to subdue. There are also ties with her ex-fiance. His story was interesting and I'm curious as to whether we'll see more of Ben in the future books of the series.

This particular book is pretty focused on the suspense story line. Although in the midst of that are Ryon and Daria developing a relationship, too. Overall, I never felt like the two of them were in danger of not making the relationship work, except physically...they both take some serious knocks in this book. Daria is very accepting of all the changes and surprises and of Ryon himself. I almost wished that there had been a bit more drama or conflict there because I never really was at the edge of my seat over their emotions. They are both VERY accepting of the fact that they have deep feelings for each other even from the very beginning when it's all very confusing to them.

I continue to enjoy this series and am anxious to dig into book #5 which is waiting for me in my print tbr pile when I find another break in my reading schedule.

Hunter’s Heart is the fourth installment of J.D. Tyler’s Alpha Pack Novels, and she doesn’t disappoint as she tells the story of Ryon Hunter. Ryon’s gift is the ability to see dead people, although their constant need for assistance in ways he can’t understand often seems more like a curse. When he hears the voice of Daria Bradford, a wildlife biologist studying wolves in the Shoshone National Park, he almost ignores it until he realizes she is very much alive and in need of his help after being attacked by a rogue white wolf. Further complicating the situation is the fact that Daria is his fated mate, and his extreme measures of saving her life may actually push her away from him for good.

I liked Daria, she was a no nonsense, intelligent, independent woman who made her own way in a tough and often lonely field. Her logical but caring nature made her a match to Ryon, and she really tried to make the best out of a bad situation. Ryon is a courageous and honorable person, whose loyalty extends to Daria without question after he helps her during her initial rescue. The search of the white wolf, which leads Ryon and Daria deep into danger as they try to solve the mystery of her attack, only enhances the action packed plot. In true J. D. Tyler fashion there is suspense, mystery, and romance as well as a surprising twist at the end that leaves you wishing for the next novel.

Hunter’s Heart delivers another action packed romance that also provides a little more to the pieces of the puzzle of what happened to these Navy Seals all those years ago in the jungle.

Ryon Hunter’s gift, or curse, has been seeing ghosts. In the previous books we’ve seen how this has taken a toll on him. I do have to say how he first meets his mate was cool. Daria Bradford spends most of her time in the forest. She is a wildlife biologist who can also astral travel which she does to Ryon after she comes across a mutilated body in the forest and falls off a cliff.

The mating process and acceptance went a lot faster in this book than what was in the previous ones but that left more time for the new mystery. There is a creature in the forest that is on a killing spree. The unveiling of where the creature came from, who it is and how it’s tied to their past kept you turning the pages.

I enjoyed this latest in the Alpha Pack series and the big tread the author left open at the end has me hungry for the next book.

3.5 stars. I am in still in the camp that says you should save the sexy times for when you aren't running for your life from the evil maniac who would like to experiment on you. Call me crazy. There was also something at the end of the book that hit a bit of a sour note for me. A name that Ryon called Daria in the middle of a sexual encounter seemed off and harsh. It really jarred me out of the story, because it seemed out of character.

La meute Alpha, tomes 1 à 4 – J.D. Tyler

Une série entraînante, addictive. Ils sont « Bruts. Superbes. Indomptés. » Ils font partis de la meute Alpha.
__________
Tome 1 : Instinct Primal

__________
Tome 2 : Léveil du loup
Aric Sauvage a vécu l’enfer.

-Mon Dieu, fit Jax.

Quick & Dirty: Paranormal Romance at the top of its game.

Opening Sentence: “The guy bringing up the rear is always the one who gets eaten, you know.”

The Review:

Starting a new series smack dab in the middle nearly gives this reader heart palpitations because you know that a world takes time to build, characters are fleshed out, back story is told and you have none of that. However, sometimes you are granted a true work of storytelling genius that truly makes a book in a series not require all of the above. And that is what we are gifted with in Hunter’s Heart.

A story that doesn’t require a reader to know anything except that this is a paranormal romance with amazing characters, wonderful drama and a clear vision for where it is going to take you…short answer is: on an amazing ride and that is after finishing reading this book over a week ago.

If by some chance the above words haven’t encouraged you to go click on the link above then let me expound a little more on the wonderful attributes of this book with of course no spoilers because I want you to enjoy this book like a fine meal that has been prepared by a 5 star chef.

What about a little bit of Alpha male goodness who just happens to be able to see dead spirits? Do I have your attention yet? Ok then, how about a Navy Seal wolf shifter? I do believe I may have finally gotten your attention. But I have left the best for last, guy with a heart of gold. I do believe we have a Winner! But all joking aside, Ryon Hunter is what we all dream about when we say those words in real life or in fiction. He is the guy you want covering your butt when you go into unknown territory. The one who is going to go out of his way to make you comfortable even when he longs to get to know you better. Finally, the guy who is willing to back you up even when he doesn’t like it. In other words, an amazing guy.

Now our female lead is one heck of a lady. She looks at a situation and makes judgements based on her brain, which I adore her for, and yet when she falls into a situation that is beyond what she imagines, she is willing to grow and change with the new reality. She has been alone for her work as a wildlife biologist and she is a true asset to the story. Her skills are great for the task that she does end up having to accomplish. This is a woman of grit, determination and stubbornness and definitely would be a lady I could be friends with, except when both our stubbornness gets in the way. Daria Bradford is a great character and I look forward to seeing more of her in the series along the way.

Oh, and I don’t know how I could forget but these two together. “Wowza!” They are hot and to die for. Make sure you have a cool drink close at hand because Ryon and Daria together are a romance reader’s joy and delight.

Now you probably want to know a bit more about the story and without spoilers here is the basic plot, there is something out in the forest that is killing people. Alpha Pack and Daria stumble into its path. We also have the addition of the creators of this monster being hunted for answers and the search to find out who and why Alpha Pack became wolf shifters. And that is all I can say without ruining this outstanding book for you.

Final word on this book, Get It Right Now! Find your nearest bookstore, open your closest computer, tablet or mobile device and One Click this book. I’m sure you will not be disappointed.

Notable Scene:

“Please, help me.”

“Jesus!” Reacting, he jerked upright and then hissed in pain. “What the hell?”

Ghosts shouldn’t be able to peak and make themselves understood so clearly. But this one wasn’t having any problem in that area.

“Help me,” she entreated again. “I’m hurt and there isn’t much time.”

He blinked at her. “How do you think I can help you? You’re dead, sweetheart,” he said, his tone firm but gentle. Most of the spirits couldn’t accept their demise.

“No, I’m alive! I was working a few miles from here and I was pushed into a ravine.” She began to appear more desperate. “If you don’t find me, I’ll die out here. You have to believe me.”

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Shawnie:
*eBook received to do an honest review.

Hunter's Heart is a book about the connection between two people. It showcases a connection strangers can have, even at a distance, and through impossible circumstances. This was a heart warming book about love and finding what you need.

Former Navy SEALS, J.D. Tyler's Alpha Pack is a very top secret team of wolf shifters with Psy abilities brought together to combat the dangers that stalk, hunt and kill in the dead of night and some times, killing isn't necessary. But when a battle thats suppose to be global becomes all too personal for the members of the Alpha Pack some things just have to happen.

Ryon Hunter sees dead people who constantly look and beg to him for help in ways he can’t and doesn't want to understand. He is at the point where he would do just about anything to get rid of his gift, until a spirit appears to him with a plea he isn't even tempted to ignore; Help me… I’m alive. His wolf is at the forefront and anything less than saving the beautiful women is unacceptable... even if he has to go alone.

Daria Bradford is a Wildlife Biologist, who is specializes in the studies of wolves. She loves her job and the wolves she gets to watch over. But strange things are happening in Shoshone National Park where Daria is camping out, but by the time she figures that out its too late.

Ryon isn't letting the woman out of his site, but for good reason, she is his destined mate but he is very nervous about it all. Ryon is a gentleman and a man of absolute honor, but in order to get save his mate he had to do something drastic now he is afraid of what will happen when she discovers what he is, and what he had to do to save her life.

But there is something more important happening in the forest surrounding the Alpha Pack compound and its leaving a trail of bodies in its wake. That means one thing, its time for the pack to hunt and capture (if possible) the threat. But nothing is ever that easy, and there is more to the story than The Alpha Pack first assumed.

Hunter's Heart is a breathtaking book based on a man's honor and a woman's heart. Things never go smoothly, but that is what makes this book such a good one; there is no beating around the bush or hearts left broken. There are secrets that come to light, and everything changes for our Alpha pack with these revealed tidbits, but you cant rush some things, and our wolves have some patience. But love is very much found, strength is shared and knowledge is passed along, people come together, and "magic" happens.

This had to be my second favorite book after Kalen's, but I know it will only get better. I HIGHLY recommend this book and if you haven't started the Alpha Pack series yet, I advise you to do so.

Five skulls that were very much earned.

My Rating: ★★★½
GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 star book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book is a solid read. I would recommend it to a friend.

My Thoughts:
I have greatly enjoyed the Alpha Pack series and look forward to new releases within the series. Although Hunter's Heart was not my favorite book in the series, I enjoyed Ryon and Daria's story. The story was action packed and full of unexpected plot twists that made the story highly enjoyable. The twist about the Beast's identity was one of those twists as was August's connection with the Alpha Pack. I'm going to love finding out more about that as Tyler progresses the series. My one sorta-kinda negative about Hunter's Heart was when Ryon called Daria a slut at the end of the book. It totally caught me off guard because he had never called her anything of the sort in all their other love making scenes. Definitely not a favorite word of mine and I'm glad it was near the end of the story.

And Hunter's Heart was definitely full of "Oh I want to read their story!" moments. For me, I'm itching to get my hands on Micah, Hammer, and Zan's story. I am eager to see the woman who will be paired with those fearless warriors. I actually want to see if she does anything further with Blue, too. The series is rich and vivid and definitely contains a kaleidoscope of rich characters.

*pokes book* I don't know how I feel about this. It was better than Black Moon, but...*shrugs*

Hunter's Heart relied a lot on Fated Mate Syndrome. I can be okay with FMS, especially since I love an uber-possessive alpha male hero, but I felt like that was the whole plot of the book. Okay, yes, there's a monster shifter rampaging through the countryside, but Tyler kept relating that back to the hero's and heroine's relationship. It was like eating a light, frothy, dessert. It's tasty, but you're left with a vague dissatisfaction, like 'That was it? It's over already?'

I know I seem a bit like Goldilocks right now, since I complained Black Moon was disjointed and didn't have enough relationship development and now I'm saying Hunter's Heart had too much relationship stuff. I think the world development in the first two books was so great, I keep waiting for that magic to come back. And I'm still mixing up this series, Alpha Pack, with Stephanie Tyler's Eternal Wolf Clan. Between the two, I think I prefer Alpha Pack as it's lighter than Eternal Wolf's 'EVERYONE SHALL SUFFER' mindset.

Anyways, the key here is how you already feel about the series. You could probably read this one as a stand-alone, but it may take you a bit to get up to speed. In any case, if you're an Alpha Pack fangirl, you'll probably like this. If you view Fated Mate Syndrome as a horrible storytelling device, skip it.

Also, if you know anything about genetic engineering, it's probably not best to consider certain aspects of Hunter's Heart too closely.

J D Tyler delivers another amazing addition to her Alpha Pack series!!

Ryon Hunter is part of the Alpha Pack, he is a wolf shifter and the packs telepath. His telepathic gift however has lately become his curse but that is all about to change.

Daria Bradford is a Wildlife Botanist who chose to follow in her father's footstep specialising and focusing her research in what to her were the most beautiful creatures on earth Wolves.

With a gang of rogue vampire on the loose Ryon and the Alpha Pack are given clear instruction by their commander 'find the vampires and neutralise everyone of them!'. Every mission has its danger and this one is no different but when Ryon is critically injured and his visions cross paths with a women in trouble his wolf is stirred and he is compelled to find her no matter the cost to his health.
Daria is in trouble and she only hopes the man she saw will find her in time. When Ryon and the pack find Daria's location they also find a whole lot more and none of it is good. Ryon will need to risk everything to save Daria and hope she understands and forgives him when it is over. For what is about to be revealed will be worse than anything they could have imagined and everyone of their abilities and strengths will be tested if all of them are to make it home.

I really enjoyed reading Hunter's Heart and would definitely recommend this book to other readers.

Well Jax ole' boy I do believe Ryon stole my heart from you and all because he's a possessive sort, "baring his fangs, he moved to place his body between the man and his female. Crouched, ready to spring and rumbled a warning deep in his chest. Hurt. Mine." And he may get a tad jealous as well, "I can't help what I am," he ground out. "My wolf doesn't like you thinking about some other man, and neither do I." Alright maybe a tad wasn't the right word, "Ryon stalked her, pressing her against the glass patio door. "You remember how he smells? Not for long. Because I'm gonna eff you, mark you with my scent until there's nothing left in your memory but me." And he's a flirty guy when he's with his woman (I think his Daria brings it out in him) "your concern for my safety is heartwarming, but the only dangerous animal around here will be me if you keep eyeballing me like I'm a steak."

Hunter's Heart delivers the page turning suspense that I've come to expect from the Alpha Pack novels. Ryon and Daria are a great couple. I loved Daria's spirit, she never lets anything stand in the way of her goals.
My only complaint, I would have liked to have seen more of Daria's Native American heritage brought into the story.
If you like action, adventure and Steam up the jungle passion, Hunter's Heart is the book for you.

I am pretty disappointed with this one as the H is one of my favorites thus far. Yet this is probably a filler transition book to set up for the next mini story arc, hence it probably makes sense there isn't to be as much excitement plotwise yet.

My main issue here is the h or maybe the plot itself rather, as there isn't much suspense or happenings to build on, we are given some tstl moves given by the h to create enough dangerous situation to satisfy our needs. This makes her actually v selfish and ridiculous, hence I actually felt bad when the hea happens. The ott development here makes it v hard to suspend disbelief and makes me think h pretty stupid in the end and H weak to go along with her ridiculous ideas, especially when he ended up near death.

H is the most easy going guy to me in the gang. He seems a bit like the all good american boy next door from previous installments, gentle, kind, friendly and yet brave and honorable. We didn't really know much beyond that or that he actually has torments of his own and is near breaking point. He actually is kept in character here, and is kind and considerate, always thinking of h's feelings first and putting his needs last. He is also sweet to our h and patient and ever understanding. Great H bothering on sainthood if nothing too exciting.

Our h I seriously have a huge problem with. She seems to have a princess syndrome, everything is about her and what she wants. I guess for a normal person her situation is going to be hard to take in, yet I also resent her for taking it out on the H, especially when she is the one going to him for help and she knows she will not be alive if not for him. Her saying that isn't the point but she needs time to get used to the idea doesn't excuse her biatchy behavior. To top it off, her insistence in the most stupid actions endangers the both of them and nearly getting H killed. Honestly, she cannot fight, doesn't have military training and she thinks nothing about going up against dozens of men with guns and trainings plus a monster on the lurk? What stupidity is this? and a bath? when tons of said men are hunting them? This incredible stupidity makes me grind my teeth and think good riddance to be honest.

Even though the pair are given tons of together time here, while I did feel the H genuinely cares for our h, I didn't feel the h returns the feeling tbh. Seems she cares more about the sex. The plot itself borders on the ridiculous, as mentioned above (honestly I love love the dangerous element in this series thus far, but this one is so contrived, based on absolutely idiotic decisions, that I could not really get into it) making it hard to really enjoy these two being together and towards the end, I just want to get it over with pronto.

This book was sooo bad, I struggled to finish it. The premise started out good. Ryon sees ghosts except Daria is not a ghost but only almost dead.

Once he saves her it's all downhill from there. I don't like the insta-love in these series cause there's really no basis for them to fall in love. Cause she's your mate you're in love with her? But you met like five minute a go? What happened to not letting fate decide for you?

I understand the insta-mates thing with the possessiveness cause that's from the wolf side. However the insta-mate got annoying too, especially when someone HAS to tell you she's your mate. Like really? There was no buildup of feelings. No talking and getting to know each other. The relationship felt forced and not real or lasting.

Also can we talk about Nick? Precog Nick who doesn't want to interfere with people's life but damn sure interfered a lot here. He tells Ryan Daria's his mate, that he has to mate her to save her. He makes them go on a mission together. He basically tells them to do a ton of stuff because otherwise one or both might die. I have nothing against Nick but I felt he was overused in this book.

I am really not sure how I feel about this book 😏

I have enjoyed the books that I have read so far in this series but..............................

I found myself putting this book down too many times that I actually surprised myself that I finished it!

Daria was a difficult character for me to really care about. I wasn't a fan.

I think it was the sex thing in the middle of the chase that was just off putting for me.

Ryon was an okay alpha for me, I wanted more from him but this was based on the other books and my own expectations.

I enjoyed reading about the secondary characters in this book.

I look forward to reading about Nick, he I really really like😍😍😍😍

I am going to brew a bit more on this book and relook at my comments later

Hunter’s Heart

I really enjoyed the characters interactions in the story. This is the story of Ryon and Daria. The storyline is complex to a degree and at times seemed to flow a little to slowly. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers. I recommend the series and think your understanding of the storyline and the series will be enhanced if you read them in order.

Started off really good, but became a little repetitive and predictable. Some of the steamy scenes were just page fillers - nothing new or exciting, and could have been left out. However, the series is still a good one - just needs a different angle going forward so that the books are not so overly similar.

He has to bite her to save her life, lucky for him she loves wolves and her work is to studied them. Ryon and her fall into immediate lust. They work together on a mission that binds them even closer. Even though I had to stop and s tart this book several times I did like it.

I think I'm done. I enjoyed the subplot but couldn't get along with the instalove or the main couple. I have one book left which I'll read but when you enjoy the side plots more, its time to call it quits with the series

This is a great series

And I've enjoyed every one of the books I've read. Love to see each of them mated. Just wish they were longer
