Normally, I like British wartime stories and this book did not shake my preference for the genre. The story starts with a mystery that is solved, but not in the final chapter. A soft read, despite the scenario, but a well-thought-out narrative that even permits a "smell" of ramshackled Britain. Good read.

This book was a waste of time. I dont even know why i was so determined to read it, maybe because the list of half-read book is getting longer. Anyway, I wouldnt recommend it to a friend.

It was a good book, liked the characters, although i could have slapped that Ada Tanner.. she got on my nerves a tad! I actually read the book before this so i knew who the characters were and the story behind them so it was easy to get into. I liked the fact that it was set in the 40's i could just picture the outfits etc! The story is quite emotional, what happened to Grace and the fact that it tore her family apart was quite sad, what happened to Sarah and her husband was awful but it was set in a time where this was happening alot. The country was being bombed and as you go through the story you see how it affects the surrounding families and towns. But it's not all sad, the fact that the families in this story stick together makes it enjoyable!

An interesting read as set in the Blitz in London but I didn't warm to the characters and it was all a bit pedestrian.

OK story. Readable, but some of the things the characters do would not be tolerated in that era.
