When Shivon Roxtin tries to incite a rebellion among the human females on the Outcasts' planet, she's sent to the Relentless. The ship's commander, Warlord Torak Payne, thrives on challenge, so he's looking forward to taming the fiery human. Still, war with the Sarronti is creeping ever closer, and the last thing he needs is an unruly mate. Tempers flare, and sparks fly from the moment the couple first meets. Their battle of wills is quickly surpassed by their consuming need for each other, but can they channel the emotional intensity into something constructive before they're consumed by the flames?
Note to Readers: This book contains detailed descriptions of sizzling passion only suitable for mature readers. Certain plot elements carry on from book to book. Though Warlord can be read as a standalone, it's more fun to read the series in order. Enjoy!
Passionate Sci-Fi with a touch of danger and a whole lot of sass.
Cyndi has written about rock stars, vampires, and cat shifters, but she's currently focused on outer space. Her stories are fun, fast-paced, and seriously hot. She has made the USA Today Top 100, and every book in the Outcasts series landed on Amazon's Top 100. She is currently working on Shadowborn Rebellion, a spin-off series set in the Outcasts universe.
My first book by this author and yes it's part of a series that's new to me but I was pretty hopeful that it would work as a standalone. So we have aliens that are pretty humanoid looking known as Outcasts who are attempting to colonise what they thought was an uninhabited planet . Alas they were wrong and it's inhabitants the Sarronti live underground so as this story begins already there have been skirmishes. The Outcasts have humans amongst them and one of them is Shivon who has absolutely no wish to be a brood mare and so is desperate to prove that she can be far more usefully employed if only the over protective Outcasts would realise that human women are not fragile . Well enter genetic testing that matches her up with five possible Mates and its decided that she should spend time with Warlord Torak. Their attraction is mutual but for Shivon the trust just isn't there. Can Torak tame this rebellious woman enough to make her accept him as her Mate ? If I'm blunt I wasn't exactly wowed by the first half of this as there was for me just too much domination and sex scenes going on and I actually wanted more plot. So I'm happy to say that the second half of this story really opened up the world building in play here. The Sarronti are Elves with magical abilities and its clear there is dissension amongst them as regards not only to the Outcasts but also their own out dated way of life. Add in political machinations and finally scenes with Shivon being more than just a sexual plaything and I really enjoyed this story and will happily read more by this author. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Warlord, by Cyndi Friberg, is the fifth book in the Outcast series, a sci-fi romance. Things are just as bad between the Sorronti and the Rodytes. The on-going fear of the war is making everyone more nervous. The power-play of the Sorronti has changed (as shown in the last book) and between all this, a rebellion by the unmated females is not appreciated. Shivon Roxtin, who is heading the protests is adamant about having the right to work along with the males. Her mate, Torak, is against the idea because of the danger of the war. It is written that it can be read as a standalone, but I don't agree. There will be too much confusion and it will take more than half of the book to get used to the plot. I couldn't connect with Shivon. Reading the first page, I was like, "Okay, a different character. A proud and strong female who will bring positive change". But that trait and determination only lasted for the first few chapters. She wanted to work for the betterment of the females in the colony. But we don't see any of this in the book. Tbh, the only couple I LOVE in this series are Torrin and Arrista. Even in this book, I was more excited by Arrista's brief entry. Torak was okay, but only after more than half of the book passed. His personality wasn't likable during the first half. Warlord has two storylines concerning two different couples. There are Shivon and Torak, the main characters, and a side story of Kage Razel and Ezalondra (They will have a story in the next book). There has always been a mystery around Kage, and now that we have been shown some of his insight, I'm more curious about his story. Thankyou to netgalley and booksprout for providing an ARC in exchange of a review.
This book is fabulous. It is an amazing story of an older man younger woman story. It is fast pace, well written and interesting – before you know it you are at the end wanting more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A rocky start on their journey, Shivon slightly irritated me at the beginning, but then again I liked her fiery spirit, her demand for independence and her refusal to be dragged into some murky Stepford wife thing by a biological pull. I wasn’t so sure about Torak, things between them came horribly close to Dub con for a moment, but he grew on me to and I got his frustration and admired his patience with her. I’m addicted to this series and am binging it gleefully.

REVIEW: WARLORD is the fifth instalment in Cyndi Friberg’s OUTCAST sci-fi, fantasy romance series. This is human female Shivon Roxtin, and Warlord Torak Payne’s story line. WARLORD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.
SOME BACKGROUND: The humanoid aliens known as Rodytes needed a home and settled on two planets they believed were uninhabited. Without any available mates, the male only Rodytes sent teams of Outcasts to kidnap any and all human females in an attempt to repopulate and find mates for their struggling males but procreation came at a price including the need for genetically matched DNA, a mutual metamorphosis, and magical intervention. A test for compatibility is filed and there may be as many as five males matched to a single female DNA. Outcasts were battle born; their mothers were Bilarrian prisoners forced to breed, with their Rodyte captors, in the hopes of restoring magic to the Rodyte people. To complicate matters, the planet they now inhabit hides a secret deep beneath the planet’s surface, a secret that is determined to take back what once belonged.
Told from several third person perspectives including Shivon and Torak WARLORD follows the building relationship between fated mates human female Shivon Roxtin, and Warlord Torak Payne. Shivon Roxtin found herself part of a group of rebels struggling with their place on the planet OP3- a group of unmated females who have yet to be matched with a compatible member of the Rodyte male population. Hearing that many of the females would rather return to their home planet of Earth, Overlord Kage Razel places Shivon in a position that will bring her face to face with her fated male. Enter Warlord Torak Payne, the man with whom Shivon will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Shivon and Torak, and the potential fall-out when Shivon ‘volunteers’ to work along side her future mate in an effort to ferret out information from the enemy below.
Shivon Roxtin is a warrior at heart; a former interrogator with the US military who is struggling with the lack of positions for females on the planet she is about to call home. Torak Payne knows Shivon Roxtin is his fated mate but convincing Shivon to place her trust in Torak is met with trepidation and the possibility that working together threatens Torak’s need to protect the woman with whom he will fall in love.
Meanwhile Ezalondra ‘Eza’ Alonov, a Council member of the underground Sarronti, will come to the surface in an effort to align with the invaders known as the Outcasts. Meeting Kage Razel sparks something deep within Eza Alonov, something worth risking her own life in return for that of her imprisoned nephew Farlo.
The relationship between Torak and Shivon is one of fated mates; a genetic match based upon DNA but a match that Shivon struggles to accept based on past experience, and a lifetime of hardship and rejection. Hoping to prove Shivon is worthy to be his mate, Torak begins a slow seduction of the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Torrin and his mate Arrista, Arrista’s sister Merella, mistress Lady Isolaund, and Farlo Alonov.
The world building continues to focus on the search for mates; the political structure of the Sarronti Underground; and the preparations for battle with the enemy below.
WARLORD is a story of conflict and authority; struggle and acceptance; trust, honor, respect and love. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the romance is seductive and energetic; the characters spirited and strong. WARLORD is a wonderful, fast paced and captivating entry into Cyndi Friberg’s OUTCAST series.
Warlord is Book 5 in Cyndi Friberg's ongoing Outcasts series, set in her Ontariese/Billarian/Rhodyte universe. I would not call it a standalone, and I heartily recommend reading the series in order for maximum appreciation of Friberg's masterful world-building and her ongoing in-depth character development. The romance is hot, at times dark and disturbing, and HEA is the well-deserved reward for human Shivon Rixton and hybrid Rhodyte Warlord Torak Payne. In Shivon, Friberg has created the textbook profile of the rebellious feminist whose politics derive totally from the appalling experiences her childhood and youth. Which is not to say her knee-jerk militant POV is not without just cause, or merit. It's the involuntary reflex aspect that has Torak annoyed, challenged, intrigued, and then inextricably attracted - in extremely short order. That he and Shivon are a strong genetic match inevitably triggers the need to soul-bond as lifelong mates. That neither is equipped by education or experience to understand the other's reality is the seemingly insurmountable obstacle they must overcome. That there's a hostile race of underground elves, a hostage situation, a diplomatic crisis, and an oncoming war are some external complications. Add the autocratic and powerful Overlord who commands them both, and a prescient harbinger's infallible prophesy of sacrifice - or doom. Stir in the chronic discontent of the powerless elves with the demands of their power-hungry rulers, the desperation of the Outcast males for their human mates, and the wild-card loyalty of a pride of karrons (cross a telepathic cat with a tank and you get the idea), and the dramatic tension is edge-of-your-seat, nail-bitingly relentless. My recommendation? Read the series first, then grab Warlord with both hands and hang on for a riveting reading experience. Oh, and one-click Overlord, the series finale, upcoming. I received an ARC copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Shivon Roxtin, an ex-military independent woman was one of the earth women who found themselves on a planet similar to earth OP3. The Outcasts has found out that many human females were genetically compatible with them, Rodyte hybrids, they kidnapped them. They explained they wanted mates for life and would return any who wanted to back to earth. Shivon was not happy with they fact that most woman who had been matched just lived for their mates. She wanted to feel useful so was bringing to gather women for a possible rebellion of sorts. They were caught by the Overlord, the leader, and she was told either she goes to detention or meet with her potential match, Torak Payne, a Warlord, or go to detention. What’s a girl to do?
This book five in the Outcast series. I am reading this as a stand alone. Even though it is from a series, enough background is included to be able to get a sense of what is going on. This book has many excellent qualities and is complex as it has the basic potential love match, possible war with the indigenous people of OP3 and interplay between various characters. The characters are creative, well defined and very interesting. As there are three species on the planet, dymanic political maneuvering occurs as each searches for a better life. The storyline is expertly woven together using all the events but keeping the focus on the romance. This book was interesting and although complex was easy to read. The writer describes what is happening and the environment extremely well. The dialogue is also great. I want to read more of this series now. If you like science fiction you will enjoy this book either separately or as part of the series.

Tough and independent Shivon Roxtin tries to stir up rebellion within the human females on the Outcasts' planet, which the Outcasts are attempting to colonize thinking the planet was uninhabited. The planet is actually already in use by the Sarronti who live underground, and there are stirrings of war ready to break out.
Shivon’s anger is caused by her strong desire to be a part of the community and not a toy for the males to mate and breed because they think humans are too weak to be useful. To get her under control, Shivon is sent to the ship's commander, Warlord Torak Payne, on the Relentless. Despite her attraction to him, Shivon does not trust him and fights against him, even if they are fated mates. Is it possible for Torak to tame this wild woman enough to make her accept him as her Mate?
This was a good story. The sparks fly as the chemistry sizzles between Shivon and Torak. He loves challenges, but this one may be more than even he can handle! The story line is intriguing and well-paced. The main characters are strong and worthy of the reader’s respect. Will they be able to put aside tempers and hostilities to face the enemy together? Grab your copy and see where the story line is heading!
The woman and mate she was meant to be! by sewsummore
When Shivon tries to stir unrest with the other human brides on the planet she is sent to the Warlord Torak to control her behavior or else be shipped home to Earth. She is a feisty woman who was once a member of the earth's military and has no intention of becoming a wife, content to care only for her children and the pleasure of her mates. The attraction between them happened instantly and Torak knew at once she was his fated mate. Shivon felt their attraction but would not cede control of her life to her mate easily. He knew if he was to win his mate he would have to change the way he expected to treat Shivon. I loved how he was prepared to accept her as a warrior as well as his mate, and used her training to benefit his people. Shivon was soon agreeable to their mating, providing he did not try to change her from the woman she was meant to be. I found their marriage to be a true partnership, each with a role to play. Their relationship was built on love and their acceptance of the people they were, not on society's role of women on their planet.

I certainly enjoyed reading this alien romance; it caught my attention and kept it until the last page was turned. I found the story-line & plot quite well-thought out & written. The unique characters are emotional strong individuals & interesting with different sides to their individual personalities, the secondary characters play good supporting roles. There is: a rebellious & outspoken human female (Shivon Roxtin) has absolutely no interest in being mated but is sent to a Outcast Commander (Warlord Torak Payne) on board the Relentless who realizes that Shivon is his fated mated , a Outcast Overlord & matchmaker (Kage Razel), a secretive elf-like species (Sarronti), a female Sarronti (Ezalondra aka Eza Alonov), twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, adventure, action, danger, enemies, threats, attacks, conflict, violence, political issues, genetic/compatibility tests, suspicions, verbal disagreements, manipulations, compromises, frustrations, challenges, negotiations, attractions, seduction, emotional turmoil, devious plans, memories, sexual tension, trust, declaration, love, mates, intimate steamy scenes & a well-deserved happy conclusion.
i don't recommend reading this on it's own. though this couple's relationship is fully contained in this story, there is a lot background in the prior books plus the series arc has a strong progression/presence that would detract if you aren't familiar/following it. i'm a little torn on this story. it was well written & interesting but I have to admit to preferring the series arc story line which also sets up the next book over the center couple. the start of the "relationship" btwn Torak and Shivon didn't sit well with me and left me leaning toward disliking them to start (rather than rooting for their HEA). While Torak did manage to redeem himself somewhat, I never quite warmed up to Shivon. I just couldn't get her actions or motives/motivation. she tended to leave a "bad taste" more often than not. The overall series plot did have some interesting twists and turns and left me looking forward to the next installment. for me this a little shy of a full 3* read, but that's also because of personal taste rather than the writing. what didn't work for me may well not be an issue for others.

This book is a page-turner that let my attention from beginning to end! Shivon doesn't want a mate. She wants to be able to be part of the community not just a mate and little "Miss Susie Homemaker". So she tries to get the other women to rebel with her. The problem comes when Torak is matched with her. She fights the attraction and everything involved with them soul bonding. Eza Alonov is on the Sorronti Guiding Council and is the sister of General Alonov. She is taking steps and meeting with Kage. Can these two work together for the betterment of their communities? A battle takes place and a few new things are discovered in this book. The next book in the conclusion of this series but I hope that more are written as maybe a spin off or just with different antagonists. I am not ready to say goodbye to these sexy, dominate aliens or this very intricate and interesting world.
I need to go back and read the other books of the series. This is the story about Shivon and the Warlord Torak. Shivon tries to start a rebellion between the human females on the Outcast planet. Shivon is sent to Relentless and while on the ship she meets the commander Warlord Torak Payne. There is a lot of tension between Shivon and Torak. Problem is they need to find a way to cooperate and work together. There is a lot of emotions and sparks between the two. I like the way Cyndi Friberg writes her books. They are always a page turner and full of excitement and adventure.

Wow what a story I liked Shivon she’s pretty tough a feminist rebel who’s had a horrible past and that is why she is like she is and that doesn’t go down too well with Torak and what starts as annoyance ends in passion. A masterful series even though you can read this book as a standalone it’s best to start at book 1 plus it’s more enjoyable to know what’s going on but it’s not absolutely necessary, I’ll tell you what though that Torak has so much more patience with Shivon than I would of had even though I liked her sometimes she just went too far. Fantastic story and I highly recommend this book/ series it’s definitely well worth the read.
This steamy sci-fi romance is part of the Outcasts series and centers on the Outcast Warlord Torak and his genetic match Shivon. The Outcasts are warrior mercenaries banded together and building new lives for themselves and the human females they rescued. Women who have voluntarily remained as possible mates. Shivon is stubborn and strong willed, a soldier in her previous life, and the perfect match for her #1 genetic match Torak. An exciting story in a series that is not over yet!

Love Cyndi Fryberg, with that said - Warlord was absolutely fantastic. Shivon and Toraks story did not disappoint in the Outcast series. Love how Shivon is such a strong woman, yet feminine at the same time and Torak, typical warrior with heart of gold. I want to say more, but don’t want to give any spoilers away! Yes, I highly recommend this book and the whole series, yes it helps to read in order, but not exactly necessary.

This is an excellent read. Shiron is a human and former military. She's determined, strong and intelligent. Total is an Outcast who is her genetic match. To say sparks fly when they meet is an understatement. The triaals.and tribulations they go to before their happy ending was great reading. Such a cute ending. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I freely leave this honest review.
Took me awhile to finish this book. Mostly because Shivon is so suspicious and distrustful she got on my nerves quick. She already was on her way to changing her pattern of pushing people away by volunteering to leave the Earth, but couldn't quite follow through on being open minded. Poor Torak. He was great and really I was nearing the point that maybe she should just be with Farlo instead.
I like how the story of the Outcasts are moving forward though. And really looking forward to Eza and Raze's book.
I received a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
Well written story full of stubbornness, danger, acceptance and smoking hot romance
This was an interesting read, full of conflict, acceptance, trust and love. It was a fast paced story that took a strong independent woman and matched her with a warlord - does she scrap that! However, he is tenacious and the attraction that flows hotly between them is mutual. Action and danger surround this engaging couple and I really found it to be a page turner. Good fun!
I like these books so much. My main gripe is that they don't come fast enough. It takes them FORever to come out. I know I sound like a kid, sorry bout that. This story is good. I know that the main ones are the Warlord and his mate that he has just claimed. To me the more important one is the Overlord. I hope to have that book soon and I hope it is longer also. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
Another alien romance with the Rodytes, alien humanoids, and humans. Torka & Shivon's story, also multiple characters in supporting roles leading to interest in their stories. Sex scenes are intimate and passionate without endless prattle. I like the author's writing style and the series. Reading the others in the series helps understanding the author's world she's created but it could be read as a stand alone. Looking forward to the next in the series.
I read this book as a stand-alone and as soon as I finished this I had to grab the first in the series ‘cos it felt like I was missing out on a great series!
If you have not read any of the series, then start at the beginning. If this book an example, the the series has to be pretty good ... and I’ll be following the author so know when the next in the series is released!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I bought no 5 first...and decided to go backwards to 1..all these books are fantastically written, brilliant characters and a great new way to read about aliens & earth women...all very strong characters plenty of in depth action, revolt, and finally giving in to the pull..think I enjoyed 1 and 5 most..but I can honestly say I can read them all again...awaiting 6..cos sneaky Kage had to have aHEA final...
Fifth book in the series but can still be read as a stand alone. Take one tough human female who doesn’t like to give over control and then put her up against an army of outcast aliens who want to find their mates. Yeah she doesn’t believe in that whole fated mate thing but she’s willing to go along if she can show these tough males that women are more than possessions that need protected. And it may take one Warlord to change her tune. But she will definitely change his life.
I have waited for Torak's story to a long time. It was worth the wait. We learn more about his tech. His past. We meet Shivon. A tough rebel leader. She has a horrible past. She resists Mating. But Torak never gives up. The Sarronti escalate their war. Very interesting ending!!! Bring on Overlord
This is the fifth book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. Shivon tries to start a rebellion and she is sent to Torak. They may be fated mates but Shivon does her best to fight it. Steamy read with loads of drama and suspense. The characters are great and the story is fast-paced and draws you in, a great sci fi read. I really liked it.
She is really trying to cause trouble on the out cast planet so she is sent to him. She is his mate and he decides to tame her or at least make her behave. A war is coming and he does not need the distraction. It is exciting, emotional, dramatic, surprising, hot and so much more. I received a review copy from booksprout and voluntarily review it.
This was a great book. The author had a great storyline/plot, and the story just flowed beautifully. The characters were well known and very likeable, eventhough it took me a little time to like the heroine. It was a very good book.

Book five in the Outcasts series this is Shivon Roxtin and Warlord Torak Payne's a well written story that kept me turning pages. A great storyline with a story that flows smoothly from page to page. I enjoyed reading what these two go through to get together. I want to read the next book if there is one. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
