A re-read by Neo, using his 'read-along' audiobook discovery!
While enjoying an evening together, Minnie and Moo notice comets flashing through the sky. Little do they realize, aliens are planning to invade and attack. Only the most determined counter plan will save the day. Neo loved the sound effects I could make for the story.
This silly story, for children who are starting to read on their own, tells of two cows who are relaxing in their hot tub, when they are invaded by tiny aliens whom they think are insects.
The Minnie and Moo series books are valuable early reader chapter books for children who are starting to read independently. First of all, each page is filled with colorful pictures; this will feel familiar to children who are used to having picture books read to them. Second, the books use a large font and no more than 10 lines per page, with short sentences and short chapters. Second, unlike many readers, the entertaining and suspenseful stories are page-turners, motivating children to keep reading. In Minnie and Moo Save the Earth, the two cow friends are relaxing in a hot tub when a tiny UFO lands near them. The aliens in the ship see the cows’ horns and think they are armed, so plan an attack. Minnie and Moo, who think the aliens are merely annoying insects, respond with fly swatters, especially after the aliens take their delicious Brie cheese! The humor will appeal to young children, and chances are, they will want to read more books in the series.
A Booklist review (12/1/99, Vol.96, Number 7), which concisely described the book, said the illustrations are “sometimes too small to really extend the text”. It also said that this books isn’t as clever as some of the others, but would still make new readers laugh. The only other online review I could find, on Amazon.com, is not very helpful, as it is a combined review with other Minnie and Moo books, and barely describes the book. The reviewer liked the series, though, and pointed out that this Minnie and Moo book has nothing to do with environmentalism, even though the title suggests that it does!
Summary: Minnie and Moo spend a nice evening relaxing in the farmer’s hot tub. All of a sudden aliens land nearby and both parties mistake each other as something other than their true selves. This leads to a humorous battle royal. This book is great for younger children, when helping to teach the concepts of friendship, diversity and humor.
In the book, Minnie and Moo think about the comets and the moon. They in vision that there may be life on other planets. They feel this stars with the comets. When teaching about space/comets/moon, read story to the kids. Have them right a story about things that could be on another planet.
