This book wastes no time with the main character having her zombie urges. Alice has a craving that she will satisfy. Meanwhile, a police officer, Lazarus is looking for Alice to question her about what she may have “witnessed” at a previous scene. When Lazarus and Alice finally meet, Lazarus is awe struck at how much Alice looks like his wife that has been dead for the last 3 years. Together, they search for answers to decipher why Alice is the way she is. What they find out takes them through a world that is about to be taken over by a life force from another dimension that is using Alice to break through.

Part-time Zombie harkens back to 80’s horror movies that involve body transformations and multiple meat suits. Rice has a vivid imagination and abundance of creativity in the description of the other-worldly beings he creates. There is more to the underlying story than just zombies. It is different. But if you like body horror, this might be a great story for you to check out!
