Haven Hart #5

Snow Storm

Rate this book
The city of Haven Hart rests under the heel of Christopher Manos. He reigns over the most dangerous and deadliest citizens as the most powerful crime boss the city has seen in generations. Yet, for the last five years, the harshest edges of his nature have been tempered by the loving devotion of his husband, Snow, and the nephew Christopher adores like a son. His life is a balance of darkness and light until a birthday trip for his nephew, Simon, is interrupted by a hail of bullets and explosions, threatening to destroy it all.

Snow has found a home, a family, and the love of one of Haven Hart’s most powerful men. When Christopher and Simon are kidnapped, Snow risks everything to find his family. Utilizing specialized skills he learned on the streets and the finer points of running a city from his crime boss husband, Snow takes on roles he never dreamed he would--protector, leader, and avenger. No one threatens his family and lives. Experienced enough to know he can’t do this alone, Snow calls in every favor he is owed, risking his life promising favors in return, all to save his family and the man he loves.

The sins of the Manos crime family are escaping the dark recesses of the past and threatening the bright future of everything Snow and Christopher have built. Yet, even with the help of some unlikely and uniquely dangerous people, Snow finds himself wondering if their efforts will be enough to save the two most important people in his life. Will the loving family Snow has finally found be taken from him forever?

I like this series and these characters. I was so excited to discover another Snow book was out but while I liked it I just didn’t love it.

The main reason was the plot just didn’t really work for me.

So Atticus kidnaps Christopher and Simon. A brilliant plan since Christopher loves his nephew and would do anything for him.

So as far as evil plans go it’s a good one.

“You show your hand too quickly, Christopher. It’s very clear Simon is your world.” He stood and walked around the desk. “Just the implication I’d hurt your nephew and you went off like a cannon.” He tsked. “Not smart. I’ll tell you, I can’t figure out how you’ve risen so high with stupidity leading the way.”

But then...

“That’s where you show your very own stupidity, Atticus.” I took a step toward him. “No one is dumb enough to take what’s mine, and those who have tried aren’t alive to tell the tale.”
“Arrogant fool!” He punched the side of his desk, and it was a huge tell. He didn’t like being accused of being stupid.
“I haven’t gotten where I am today by willingly telling people about my operations. Every person who has knowledge of what I do, I hold leverage over.” It felt like my blood was boiling as I advanced on an unmoving Atticus. “But every person in my web has respect, protection, and thrives because I am good at what I do. You’re a boy playing a man’s game. You can’t win.”
I saw it coming, but not quickly enough. Atticus’ fist slammed into my face. He was strong, but I was able to stand my ground. Blood pooled in my mouth, I spit in on his papers.
“What’s wrong, Atticus, is this not going how you thought it would?”
“I spent two years watching you, Christopher. Three before that, I was building forces to get to you.” He huffed.
“I made a miscalculation. All I saw told me you loved your nephew and would sooner die than see harm come to him.” He tapped the desk and went back to sit down. “I see you pretend well… just like your mother.” His eyes narrowed, hate glistened in the darkness there.

Okay so I’m obviously missing something. What part of that conversation suddenly had Atticus thinking Christopher didn’t care. Why change the whole plan?

He knows from Christopher’s reactions that Simon is his weak spot.

I just don’t understand what happened. It just didn’t make any sense to me.

I had other issues as well (of course I did) but this was the main one.

Now this really bothered me but I’ve read other reviews and it doesn’t appear to bother anyone else. So we’ll put this down to me being far too picky.

The rest of the book features our favourite characters and it’s good but I just couldn’t get past this.

That said I’m still looking forward to the next book.

This book exceeded my expectations! It was fast-paced, suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. I didn't want to put it down. I loved revisiting Chris, Snow and Simon. It's been five years since Snow and Christopher met. Their life is perfect - they are passionately in love, have loyal friends and Simon is growing into an amazing young man. But as with everything in life - one blink and it can be gone forever. Chris' past comes to ruin everything they hold dear.

Snow and all the guys loyal to the Manos family are trying to figure out who is the threat and how to eliminate it with extreme prejudice. Thus starts the race against time. Through it all Snow doesn't spare either resources or favors to get to the truth. The emotions are high, friendships hang in balance but it all pales against the need to find Chris and Simon unharmed, and the depths Snow will go to do it are unlimited.

Secrets long buried come to light. All is not as it seems, and the life as they know it might not have been. But the culprit never knew what they were up against. Snow and Black bring Chris home, and Chris has to make hard decisions. We finally see that side of him that was kept hidden before. The side that allowed him to rise and be the man he is now. But Snow is extraordinary - he loves all of Chris no matter what.

I loved the introduction of other assassins from Black's organization, who I think will be the subject of the next book. I loved the guessing game, how Snow worked out the puzzles and how he daringly went into danger to save his husband. Snow and Chris together were just so beautiful! I loved both the dangerous and the quiet sweet moments they had. I liked Simon and a little tidbits we got about his personality and awareness about himself. I bet there will be more trouble coming their way but for now the family is back and safe, Chris and Snow are again as close as can be, and life can't be sweeter. Awesome read that I highly recommend! Well done, Ms King!

It’s a clever, sexy, action packed thriller !

Clever plot, magnificent action, sexy characters and devotion unparalleled. We are back with Snow, Christopher and young teen, Simon. Snow...

Christopher...

A forgotten man, twisted and evil from long ago, reeks havoc on our men, in the name of revenge for what Christopher’s parents had done. We have a kidnapping, big planning, tricks, information rooted out, horrible beatings, torture, and recovery and a final rescue.
The assassins and killers are ruthless.

Christopher and Black get their hands in the outcomes. We see the deep devotion of family and dedicated employees/friends.
Lots of suspense and tension. We do get some laughs with Buck the dog.

I am enjoying this rough and tough cast of characters with this series. Awesome work by Davidson King.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

Book Five of this excellent crime romance series takes us back to the beginning with Snow and Christopher and its a real treat.

I loved how the mystery unfolded here, I loved that it wasn't a clear cut case of right and wrong. I loved that people once again underestimated Snow and how far he'd be willing to go for the family he loves.

I didn't love (joking!) how even more sneaky peeks and possible red herrings were thrown about over just who the Haven Hart heir is and just what Poe's deal is.

However, that book is coming, thank you Davidson King, and I'm really hoping the one before it will be an MMM focused on Jones, Lee and Ginger.

Loads of bad guys getting their comeuppance in this, a delightful epilogue and plenty of excitement, what's better than that :)

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Snow!!

I adore Snow and was excited he and Christopher we’re getting their own book again.

Davidson King did not disappoint. Snow’s snark, pain and rage were brilliant.

Christopher was magnificent and in all his glory protecting those he loves.

I really really want Poe to be happy though.

Whew! Yes, Snow. Talk nerdy to me. Snow taking charge is 🥵. Definitely exceeded all of my expectations. I seriously thought the pattern of the plot will be similar to the first book but WOW, this was a welcome change! The amount of secondhand fear, dread, anger, and betrayal that I felt through this book kept me up at night. I only felt relaxed enough to sleep when the 3 of them were together again and halfway through resolving this debacle.

I imagined Chris taking the crown back from Black and becoming my Tol Morally Gray Hot Savior again. But now, Snow just turned the tables and took the crown and became the MVP savior. This smarty pants genius that most people mistake for a dumb and useless man made this book the BEST in the series.

By the way, those fond looks between Jones, Lee, and Ginger didn't escape me so I am excited for Triple Threat!!!

When Christopher and Simon get kidnapped it's time for Snow to take the lead. Not a peaceful moment here when Snow does everything to get them back. With a little help from Black and his guys. Can't wait to get to Poe's book, I'm so curious about him.

I loved Snow so much in this!

When his family gets kidnapped, he takes point and tries to save them by making promises and breaking friendships. They think that Snow is insignificant but he is pretty smart, so he used that to his advantage!

Loved the side characters and I am hoping to see more of Ginger. I felt bad for what happened.

I'm loving this series so much!

Highly recommend!!

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

Snow Storm is the fifth in the Haven Hart series and, while I thought it might be the last entry, there were quite a few plot avenues left open, so other novels may be coming. On the whole, the Haven Hart series has been fairly strong and save for a few issues, Snow Storm follows this trend. I will say the books need to be read in order. There are too many characters and plot threads involved in Snow Storm to consider it a standalone.

Snow Storm starts off five years after Snow and Christopher Manos came together. Their life can’t be described as ordinary thanks to the reality of Christopher’s work, but there’s an air of familial normalcy about their relationship. The author hammers this point home during the first few chapters, to the point the foreshadowing becomes nearly laughable. Thankfully, this doesn’t last long and the plot kicks forward and we get some decent action and the introduction of a new enemy. I appreciated how King balanced the character relationships across multiple scenes and scenarios. It would have been easy to sacrifice the character building for action scenes or vice versa, but King managed to juggle them both in an enjoyable way. Additionally, the book has just a bit of humor, enough to keep things from seeming too bleak.

I really enjoyed this one. Snow really showed all that he was working with to save the love of his life and his extended family. I feel for his friendship with Poe. Davidson needs to write Poe's story so we an get some insight on him. Also looking for Ginger and Jones story also. I hope the Hart Haven series isn't over!?!?!

This was really good! I am kind of behind on the the series but at least I got to listen to it as an audiobook. I already knew that I loved Joel Leslie but I really enjoyed Philip Alces as well and thought that they complimented each other.

The story was action-packed and I was on the edge of my seat but there was also a lot of love between Christopher and Snow along with the side characters.

I am excited to read the next book!

Another Good One

For me, the characters are what propel this series into my favorites list. This series is like eating potato chips, you can't eat just one. As soon as I read one in this series, I
want another one. I hope there is a story about Ginger in the future!

Never underestimate Snow. The mother nature kind looks light and fluffy but can be anything but, well Davidson King's Snow on the surface is light, fluffy, and a bit of pushover(at least what a certain bad guy thinks) but just like Mother Nature's white stuff, Snow Manos can be deadly. Let's be honest, there are times when its best if we get underestimated and Snow Storm is a prime example of just that. Never threaten the Manos family, Snow may not be the head of the family but he is the head's husband and that makes him even more of a danger to cross.

Not sure which factor I loved most: Snow being underestimated or that Christopher knows his husband so perfectly he knew exactly what to say to him on the phone to get the ball rolling? Talk about a perfect pair and its this knowledge and chemistry that will always put Snow and Christopher on the top of my favorite Haven Hart couples.

Snow is such an amazingly creative fun, flirty, and fabulous character which in my honest opinion defines exactly what Haven Hart is all about, both the city and the series. Don't get me wrong, Haven Hart Universe is not all rainbows and unicorns kind of rom-com happy happy. Oh no, it is anything but because there is danger always lurking and Snow Storm is the best example of that because Snow Manos brings happiness to everyone he meets but its not all he brings to the table. With this series entry you realize that he really is what brings everyone together, he is the cement that makes the bricks into a home, he is the Force that binds the Jedi together, and he is the love that makes the Manos and Black Organizations family(even if neither Christopher nor Black want to admit that is what they've become since meeting Snow😉😉).

Speaking of Christopher, he is just as dangerously yummy as always. His love for his nephew, Simon, has been blatantly obvious from the very minute Simon brought Snow home with him way back in book 1, Snow Falling, and if you hadn't already noticed that Christopher has become more than just a father figure you will clearly see he(and Snow) have become dads to the growing boy. I already mentioned how perfectly attuned Christopher is with Snow by knowing what clues to give his husband to help find them so I'll just add that they may be well established couple but their passion for each other is still off the charts that will fry your e-reader if you're not careful.

As for the secondary characters, well has there ever really been any "secondary" characters in this series? No because they all serve a purpose whether they get their own story or not, not a single one can be labeled "page filler", each one brings a needed element to the journey. It is always nice to see where other couples are once they've had their story begun, the author letting her readers know there is still life after they get their HEA.

Snow Storm once again showcases Davidson King's knack for storytelling, not just a writer but a true storyteller. She creates not only characters to read and plots to unravel but a whole community to discover and experience. If you haven't been reading Haven Hart Universe yet, I highly recommend doing so because you are certainly missing out on quite a ride.

One final note: if you are wondering if this is a series best read in order than I have to say yes. Sure each one features a new couple, well Snow Storm revisits Snow & Christopher from book 1 but each entry does have its own central plot so I suppose technically each one is a standalone but I have to recommend reading in order. The characters, the friendships, the favors Snow cashes in, these factors just flow better knowing each pairings' journey. If reading 5 books seems daunting, don't worry because the time will fly by and before you know it, you'll be kicking yourself for not savoring the moments but you just get so sucked in that you can't put them down. I should probably add that for the first time EVER, I did a re-read in less than 2 weeks after my initial read and if that doesn't express how amazing Snow Storm is then I'm not sure what does.

Christopher is back with the whole gang and has a story to tell...

This is the 5th book in the havens hart series and is now my favorite so far. To say I loved this story would be an understatement.

When Snow saved Simon's life he didn't realize how his life would change. Snow gained a husband and a family who he would do anything for. In this story we get to see the lengths Snow will have to go through save them. He has to call in all his favors and use his gift to save them.

Christopher and Simon are taken by a vengeful madman and it is up to Snow to bring them home. Everyone will learn what happens when you underestimate him. Snow will do anything to bring them back where they belong, save and sound.

Snow has to use all his smarts to solve this and isn't afraid to use all the power of the Manos family.

Once the action gets started you will be on the edge of your seat hoping it all works out. Everyone jump in to help and you will love the way they all pull together as a family to save of their own.

I loved the way everyone pulled together to bring everyone home safe and sound. Chris and Snow's relationship isn't normal for everyone but it works for them. They love each other totally with all their flaws and it makes this a joy to read.

The story has action and mystery that will keep you reading. I loved it and I think the whole series is worth the read.

I want Poe's story , so i am hoping Davidson will give it to me the sooner the better. I know that will be a great addition to this series as well. Maybe if we say pretty please.

This series just keeps getting better and better, it’s incredibly well written and catching.

Snow Storm is back to following Snow and Christopher, the very first couple in the series, now married for five years, through yet another threat to their safety, this one’s coming from Christopher’s past.
Almost all the characters in the series make an appearance, and it’s great to see Christopher and Black really starting to trust each other and cooperate more.

I love how the author does not pull any punches, she doesn’t try to sugar-coat the lives and the actions of the characters. We know these are not exactly “good people” and they’re certainly not on the right side of the law, but nonetheless they love, live for their families and loved ones and protect what’s theirs with any means necessary.

Davidson King’s writing is fresh, catching and keeps you wishing her stories would never end!
