FROM THE CURRENT KING OF THE SEXY, HARD-DRIVING ACTION WESTERN! THE CLASSIC SHERIFF BEN STILLMAN SERIES CONTINUES…After bringing in a band of horse thieves, Sheriff Ben Stillman would like nothing better than to go back home to his wife and wait out the winter storm that is blasting through the Montana mountains. Right before a massive Montana winter storm hits a Sheriff is out on the trail of some horse thieves, his wife is visiting a pregnant lady and her husband, and some outlaws just robbed soldiers carrying 50k in cash. When the outlaws seek shelter from the storm in the house where the wife is visiting, they tie up the men there and turn menacing with creepy threats against the women and child.
There's also a completely unconnected storyline with a hard-drinking country doctor and a teetotalling midwife.
Verdict: "Once Hell Freezes Over" (2001) is an attempt to mash up a modern-style fright thriller with a classic-style western adventure and it doesn't work. The characters are all one-note, the tension is made up of gratuitous vulgarity and a frustrating lack of urgency by those who know people are in peril, and a ridiculous ending. And the doctor/midwife story doesn't factor into the main story at all; I guess it is there for fans of the series who know the characters from earlier episodes and I'm not one of them.

An outstanding rendition of realistic old western adventures that is definitely a satisfying rendition of American folklore! Ben, Fay, Leon and their entourage certainly establishes justice in an extraordinarily descriptive manner, from beginning to end! Life in the old west was never easy but this compassionate masterpiece really explain how devastating the old west could become!
Definitely another five star masterpiece by Mr. Brandvold, as the story starts fast and ends with a heavy vengeance. I have been fortunate enough to read all of the Ben Stillman stories and each one is increasingly better than the previous one. I, too, believe in justice and these guys certainly provide safety and welfare to the citizens they are responsible for. The suspenseful episodes throughout the entire story definitely maintained my interest, as each new adventure unfolded. The author went above and beyond with his character selections, as they continuously fulfilled their assigned roles in a very exciting manner. Sheriff Stillman is a prime example of old western law enforcement, with his fast gun, intuition of right and wrong, and the ability to follow through effectively. If you love romancing, fast action and entertaining storylines, the I definitely recommend this book as well as a 'll other novels in the series. Regardless of your reading preference,I believe all.of you will find yourselves completely satisfied with these exceptionally outstanding details of realistic old western adventures at their very best!
Robbing, murders and just the norm for !I've in frontier towns. Gangs whose characters have a nonexistent moral or ethical attitude towards their fellow man or woman...Alcohol plays a heavy on the lives of these gangs and we must not forget a lot of these men come from dysfunctional family backgrounds. Sheriff Ben Stillman and his Deputy Leon are constantly keeping the town's lid from blowing up. Sometimes that isn't always possible, such as this particular incident where it was extremely cold and what they called a northern chinook which brought a huge amount of snow fall to that region. It's not strange weather, but it's dangerous to any living thing. The snow fall is what we call a "white out" many people have gotten lost just going to their brand or even cross ing the street the snow was so dense. There were always finding bodies of both men and their horses frozen to death..Lots going on. All those who read Sheriff Ben Stillman 's series will enjoy it tremendously..
Once Hell Freezes Over (A Sheriff Ben Stillman Western)
The Ben Stillman Series had me from the first book. His story is just a "come back" don't give up story that should be thoroughly enjoyed, but also lets you know that you can come back from almost anything, if you believe you can, or if circumstances dictate that in order to help the people you love the most in the world, you just have to get over yourself and do what you do best to try. There was a raging snow story and his wife Fay was at a neighbor's ranch, Ben knew when she did not get home that something was very wrong, he just knew it in his gut. He was so right, but could be get through the storm in time. This was a great, great read. BRAVO 👏👏BRAVO 👏
PB. has penned a western action adventure titled "Once Hell Freezes Over" which begins with a Army payroll robbery and the murder of six troopers. The outlaws and Sheriff's wife arrive at the same ranch just as a blizzard starts. The owners and lady become hostages until the Sheriff's wife escapes. A young man rides for help and finds he is not afraid to kill if necessary. The Sheriff and his Deputy ride into the blizzard. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Book number 5 in the series is a story that happen about a year before book 4. The story and plot is about the same as the precious stories . It has the same characters as the first 4 with the addition of a new family and of cause the outlaws. However I found it enjoyable and will continue with the series.
Between respectful, loving characters and bad guys who are bad beyond evil, blended with an exciting mix of suspenseful, fast-action and some early frontier challenges, this novel keepa readers glued to the pages!

This is a good read that starts out fast and doesn't slow down. The author has used the characters in this story quite well, and puts you with them realistically.
Sheriff Tillman and his Deputy set out during a dangerous blizzard to rescue hostages of killers. This is a page turner from the beginning. It is another well written Western from this author. I highly recommend this author.

Very disappointed! In the previous book Jody and Crystal Harmon have a 1 year old son, William Ben. In this book Crystal is pregnant with first child yet events mentioned place it after book 4. Also Noreen Hawleys name became Doreen
The weather can turn nasty real quick during a Montana winter. Four bad man kill and rob a army payroll . A storm comes up quickly and they have to find shelter . They pick a cabin where Ben wife Fay is visiting friends. Suspense, madness and adventures start.
Not sure how I ended up getting out of sync with the Ben Stillman series but I did. Another good book from Peter Brandvold. Trapped in a farmhouse with some very bad men is not a good thing.
