I was born in the beautiful county of Cornwall in southwestern England and grew up in a small village there. I return frequently to visit family and friends but especially to savor the cool rainy weather and hot tea. After school I joined the Royal Navy and served for nearly six years. I held varying jobs from being the only woman in the staff of a sports center to arranging social engagements for the Captain of the base. My last assignment was to Denmark where I thought I would spend a wild two years in Copenhagen only to discover I was being sent to a NATO Headquarters in a quiet town on the Jutland Peninsula. I was only disappointed for a while as I met my own tall, dark, handsome stranger there - a US Naval Officer named Richard who became my husband.
That was the beginning of an itinerant life as from Denmark we went to Sicily where we had our first son. Then it was on to Monterey, California and the birth of our second son. From there we headed to Patuxent River, Maryland where we had our third son. Richard's last assignment was to London where we spent a wonderful three years. Retiring from the Navy he took a job in Brentwood, Tennessee near where he grew up. Now he's retired for the 2nd time and I'm still writing!
I have always been a voracious reader, even at 5 years old my school reports show a keen interest in English and very little in math - some things never change! Although I enjoyed writing in school it wasn't until 2001 that I was tempted to take a creative writing class at a local recreation center which has sparked my new career.
I hope you enjoy reading my work as much as I enjoy writing it so sit back, make yourself a cup of tea and enjoy a break from everyday life.

One Summer in Little Penhaven by Angela Britnell is a 2019 Choc Lit publication.
A very satisfying story!
Samantha is passed over for a partnership in her law firm. Burnt out and beyond angry, she makes an impulsive, on the spot decision. She turns in her resignation, hops on a train to Cornwall, where she eventually lands in Little Penhaven. Upon her arrival, she meets Caden Day, a man with a bad reputation.
But, the more she gets to know him, the more she is convinced he’s a good guy carrying a very heavy burden and a lot of sadness in his heart. To complicate matters, Caden is stunned to discover his brother, Jory has gotten married to a young woman named, Fliss, who seems accustomed to a comfortable lifestyle. Jory needs Caden's support in more ways than one - however, Caden often remains surly and bitter.
Meanwhile, Samantha needs to figure out what she wants to do with her life, especially with her parents breathing down her neck. But, with each passing day, Samantha falls deeper in love with Penhaven and with Caden Day.
Going out on a limb here, I would say that at one time or another we’ve all been tempted to up and leave our jobs and make a fresh start. Of course, in real life, it’s not that simple, and it seldom works out the way it does in books.
But still, it was fun to live vicariously through Sam. She took a gamble and it paid off in all the ways that count.
I also grew to care for Jory and Fliss, although at first, I was a little worried about Jory’s maturity level. Fliss rises to the occasion, proving her mettle, which won my respect.
However, despite Samantha’s landing the starring role in this drama, it was Caden’s story that really packs a punch.
At the end of the day I was very pleased with how things worked out. Each of the characters worked on personal growth, faced their fears, regrets, and disappointments and learned to forgive, accept, and move forward.
The moral of the story is that there are always two sides to a story. Beware of judging someone without all the facts!! The prominent theme of having faith in someone and believing in them, even when everyone else has presumed the worst, is a positive lesson for all of us!
Faith, Friendship, Forgiveness, Hope- and of course True Love- what else could you ask for?

5☆ Endearing and Heart Warming Contemporary Romance
Sam has worked so hard to get to where she is and is expecting to be made a Partner in the company she works for.
Only to be dealt a devastating blow in a public place.
Sam is devastated and fed up.
So instead of jumping on a plane and travelling back home to lick her wounds.
She types up a resignation letter, packs her bags and heads off to the train station.
With no destination in mind, fate bring her together with a stranger.
Jenny invites Sam to stay with her in Cornwall, so she jumps on a train with Jenny to start a new adventure in Little Penhaven.
Sam bumps into the local bad boy Cadan who is mysterious, very handsome and the locals don't like him.
But she can't help being intrigued by this brooding stranger and wants to know more!
Can Cade be the the new adventure Sam is looking for?
Or should she listen to the locals and keep well away!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this Gorgeous Book, it's a cosy warm romance, the setting is charming, there's a dash of Mystery, a broodinginly dark and mysterious bad boy, plenty of community spirit, drama, secrets and gossip.
The Characters are an eclectic mix who are thoroughly entertaining and very likeable.
One Summer in Little Penhaven Is a heart warming and endearing romance.
If you are looking for a book to get lost in and you love Contemporary Romances, then this is the book for you!
I do hope there will be more from Little Penhaven!

I love Angela's Tennessee to Cornwall/vice versa romances and this one is no exception. I always end the books wanting to book a trip to whichever direction she has sent her characters; this time Penhaven near Newquay. As usual wonderfully drawn characters that you instantly fall in love with. This time we have four of them as Cadan's little brother Jory and his wife Fliss have excellent supporting roles.
There's a little bit of mystery and modern day Cornish smuggling and I'm sure most of us can relate to Sam's mothers Poldark obsession. Plus a feisty grandma! I love feisty grandma's - they make the world go round (I had one, so I always like to see them).
It's a heartwarming story of trying to see all sides of a story and not judging a person based on local gossip; after all we never really know what goes on behind closed doors. Once again a beautiful book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It’s that time of the year again. The days are a lot longer, the sun is visiting us more and more and people are planning their holidays. Holidays is synonym for more reading if you are an avid reader and that of course means scoring a big pile of books to enjoy whether you will have a staycation or going to some exotic beach.
This one is one I would certainly put on that list. It has everything a romantic story needs and if you are in for a bit of laughther, you can find it as well.
Sadly romance also often includes heartbreak but when you are familiar with this genre, you know you are in for a very happy ending every time as well.
There is only one thing left to say : I hope you enjoy it as much as I did wherever you are when you devour it. 4 stars.

Sam Muir is beyond disappointed when she doesn’t get the partnership she spent the last 10 years working towards. She kind of goes off in a huff and catches the first train to anywhere, it just so happens she ends up in Cornwall. She meets locals who make her feel welcome Oh and also warn her off local bad boy Caden Day!
I soon realised within a few chapters that this author knows Cornwall, she had me sniggering at the infamous tale-backs during the holiday season, and frowning at the second homes, and nodding in agreement with the setting. Along with the local vernacular, this author managed to create a setting that takes in the Cornish Scenery around the St. Austell area.
Now then, to Sam and Caden… well they say opposites attract! Sam is a feisty American and Caden a rough around the edges and a rather hunky sounding Cornishman. Rumours and gossip play a huge part in Caden’s life, rather than argue and prove his innocence he justs lets the rumour mill run. for Sam, however, this provides intrigue, a mystery even as she wants to know more.
Along with Sam and Caden, there are a few other characters that make up the local community. They add their own stories and opinion as well as the odd surprise.
This is such a lovely read and one that I quite happily lost myself in for a few hours. It flows nicely and has a good pace.
If you are a fan of Choc-lit and romance that has a really good storyline and a great cast then this is one that you will enjoy.

Every so often (ok, maybe very often, life’s been a bit like that recently!) there’s nothing I enjoy more than a lighter romance to escape into for an afternoon, and this book was everything I wanted it to be.
A Tennessee lawyer escaping from life and its disappointments, the attraction of a Cornish bad boy (or might he just be misunderstood?), their complicated and chaotic families, a village setting overflowing with the kind of quirky characters I love, a touch of crime and some well-timed Krav Magna (lest you wonder, it’s a self defence programme…), just enough simmering heat for my taste, a little Poldark, and lots of chocolate – what more can you possibly ask for?
The story’s just excellent, and so is the writing. The challenges to the happy ending I hoped for came thick and fast: the main characters certainly won my heart, and I really enjoyed their verbal sparring. And if you’re looking for a hot hero, with some real sadness in his past and a finger hovering over the self-destruct button, they really don’t come much better than Cadan.
The Cornish village where most of the book is set was beautifully done, and it was rather a nice change to be away from the coast – and I really liked the accident of fate that brings Sam into its heart, helping out at jumble sales, repairing kitchen cupboards and bleaching the bird bath.
This was such a lovely read – I very much enjoyed it…

This is the 3rd novel I've read by this author and they all share 2 things in common - a great story and characters you really care about. This novel is set in a small village in Cornwall.
The first question is why is Cadan treated as an outcast from his hometown? What could a Cornishman have in common with a high flying lawyer from Tennesse? Throw in Cadan's super laidback surfer brother (with secrets of his own) and you have a fabulous story.
Highly recommend! You won't want to put it down!

There’s just something about the way that Angela writes that has a real warmth about it, and I adored this story of Samantha who sees her way of life change overnight all down to a chance meeting with someone at a train station, and it was wonderful to follow her journey and bounce back after being dealt a huge blow to her career as a high flying lawyer.
She hears that she’s lost out on the promotion she’d been dreaming of while in London and feels so despondent, but a conversation with a stranger at a station leads her to board a train to Cornwall and escape the ‘real world’ for a while, until she decides what to do with her life next.
The little village of Little Penhaven is a world apart from what she is used to and she becomes a bit of a novelty amongst the villagers and soon finds herself renting a cottage and helping out the local jumble sale!
She’s warned off Cadan who she meets there – he’s a local farmer with a bit of a bad reputation, if ou listen to the local gossips, but there’s something about him she finds intriguing – and he feels the same about her.
I loved seeing how well she fitted in to the new way of life and getting to hear all the local gossip. She finds the slower pace of life is just what she needs and it helps her to reassess her life and where she thinks she is heading. She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty too and impresses a few people with her DIY skills – not what you expect from a city girl used to the corporate life!

Sometimes fate seems to intervene to steer characters to their HEA and that's certainly the case in this delightful romance!
American lawyer, Samantha Muir, is over in London with her boss and a colleague. When the boss takes them out for a celebratory meal, Sam assumes she's about to be offered the partnership she's worked so hard for, so when it is given to her colleague instead Sam is beyond rebellious! She goes back to her hotel room, emails her resignation with immediate effect, packs and heads for the nearest train station. Undecided where to go, a friendly stranger takes her with her to stay with her in Little Penhaven in Cornwall. That's the start of a life changing adventure for Sam, read it for yourself to discover more about this community and how Sam changes their perceptions of events from that past that have impacted on how they are treating one of their own.
The community is brought to life with an eclectic mix of villagers all making it seem more believable. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and felt I was actually there, witnessing, joining in and being part of events as they unfolded. There's tragedy, secrets, smugglers, surprises, revelations and not one but three romances in this heartwarming story. It really is a great summer story to enjoy whatever the season and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to anyone who enjoys stories with strong female leads, where the ladies are determined, resourceful and resolute in helping their men - even when the men don't realise it!

After reading Christmas at the Black Cherry Retreat last year there was no way I was going to miss out on the chance to join the tour for One Summer in Little Penhaven and I wasn't disappointed.
Angela Britnell has a knack for creating wonderful main protagonists who bury their way into your heart and cling there forever more. Sam and Caden were obviously written with such love and care and were given an endearing vulnerability that most of us can identify with in reality. Of course it helps that Caden is a sensitive hunk of a man that most of us dream about and Sam is beautiful and intelligent which most of us want to be. Set in a quaint little village in Cornwall, the setting helps to bring this story and the quirky cast of supporting characters to life.
I have to be honest and say I read this whilst really stressed and generally feeling grotty and I found the combination of storytelling, characters and the beautiful location so calm and uplifting.
The story-line runs a little deeper than boy meets girl and Ms Britnell tackles several difficult issues alongside a blooming romance. This is what makes her books so special and captivating. These issues are tackles with sensitivity and compassion and really add a more profound dimension beyond an typical romance novel. However, don't be disheartened as there are may laughs and heartwarming events too.
This is the perfect summer read and a great, uplifting novel for all romance fans. Highly recommended.

Enjoyable and with a beautiful setting, ONE SUMMER IN LITTLE PENHAVEN by Angela Britnell is a must-read this summer for all contemporary fiction/romance fans.
Samantha has done everything possible to make her way up the career ladder and when she doesn't make partner while on a work trip in London, she has had enough. Resigning on the spot, Samantha decides she needs some spontaneity in her life and hops on a train to Cornwall after talking to a lovely lady who lives there. And Little Penhaven is so far removed from her life in America that Samantha is excited to try a quieter pace of life where everyone knows everything about each other. Or at least they think they do. Warned by the community to stay away from local bad boy Cadan, Samantha feels like they may not know this man as well as they think they do but soon Samantha will have to return to her real life back in the US, won't she?
With plenty of drama, secrets, and chemistry, ONE SUMMER IN LITTLE PENHAVEN by Angela Britnell is one of those books that you easily get lost in while relaxing in the garden and suddenly it is evening time and you have it finished. I really liked the characters and the setting makes me want to head over to Cornwall at the first opportunity. This is a lovely read and I look forward to more from this author.
Enjoyable and with a beautiful setting, ONE SUMMER IN LITTLE PENHAVEN by Angela Britnell is a must-read this summer for all contemporary fiction/romance fans.
Samantha has done everything possible to make her way up the career ladder and when she doesn't make partner while on a work trip in London, she has had enough. Resigning on the spot, Samantha decides she needs some spontaneity in her life and hops on a train to Cornwall after talking to a lovely lady who lives there. And Little Penhaven is so far removed from her life in America that Samantha is excited to try a quieter pace of life where everyone knows everything about each other. Or at least they think they do. Warned by the community to stay away from local bad boy Cadan, Samantha feels like they may not know this man as well as they think they do but soon Samantha will have to return to her real life back in the US, won't she?
With plenty of drama, secrets, and chemistry, ONE SUMMER IN LITTLE PENHAVEN by Angela Britnell is one of those books that you easily get lost in while relaxing in the garden and suddenly it is evening time and you have it finished. I really liked the characters and the setting makes me want to head over to Cornwall at the first opportunity. This is a lovely read and I look forward to more from this author.

A fabulous book set in the gorgeous Cornish countryside - what's not to like?
Samantha Muir is a high-flying corporate lawyer. Working in London on a case, she is sure her long promised partnership is about to come to fruition; however when it goes to another, she decides enough is enough and resigns. Deciding to see something of the UK, she bumps into a friendly stranger who persuades her to give Cornwall a whirl. The small village is a hive of local gossip, and Cadan Day seems to be on the wrong side of public opinion but he's a very attractive man - and Sam isn't entirely blind to his charms. Where will it lead them?
This is a lovely read with plenty happening to keep the reader's attention. As Sam strikes up new friendships, we find out she isn't susceptible to gossip and prefers to create her own opinions. Sam and Cadan's possible romance isn't the only tale in this one and I raced through it, eager to know how, when and if all the arising problems would be dealt with. By the final page, everything was beautifully tied up, which I truly like. My only criticism would be that I expected more Americanisms .. there was opportunity to include so many more! But another wonderful novel, thoroughly enjoyed and well worth 4.5 stars.

When one of the main characters of a romance comes from Tennessee and the other from Cornwall, you know you're in one of Angela Britnell's books. ;) This time, everyone in Little Penhaven seems to dislike Cadan but Sam, the American heroine freshly arrived in Cornwall, decides to give him the benefit of the doubt (NOT only because he's an attractive man... but that must play into it). I enjoyed finding out what happened (first what the neighbours believed, then what they didn't know), and the subplot with Cadan's brother Jory and sister-in-law Fliss easily held my interest too. Also, readers who want "strong female characters" will surely like both Sam and Fliss. They're very different (Sam is a kind of grown-up tomboy, while Fliss shows all the refinement of her upper-class family) but they're both no-nonsense women who won't let the men deal with problems without their help.

Angela Britnell is a new author for me and when I saw that beautiful chocolate box cottage on the cover of One Summer in Little Penhaven I really wanted to find out about the little Cornish village and its residents.
Sam is a visitor to Little Penhaven, she originates from Tennessee in the United States. When a huge career move fails to take place she finds herself on a London railway platform not knowing what to do next. A friendly stranger starts chatting to Sam and before she knows it, they are on a train to Cornwall together.
When Sam first bumps into Caden Day she is attracted by his good looks but taken back by his standoffish behaviour. He has a bad reputation amongst the villagers but forthright Sam refuses to listen to idle gossip. Will she turn things around and get Caden to reveal his secret anguish?
This is an easy read, perfect for a hot summers day in the garden or beside the pool. There is a little of everything in the story, a host of believable characters, secrets, surprises and of course plenty of romance. It is beautifully written, the plot flows nicely towards a satisfying end and I found it entertaining and enjoyable.

What a great book. Reading this is a way to lose yourself in a fictional world.
Sam has worked for ten long years in her aim to gaining partnership in her legal firm, then discovers, while in London for business, that another employee was appointed her long coveted position.
In a fury of the unfairness, Sam chucks her job and, without knowing the destination, buys a ticket for the first train departing from the closest railway station. A fellow passenger befriends Sam on the journey to Cornwall and takes her to her own village of Little Penhaven. On an whim, Sam decides to stay on for a few months to get over the disappointment of losing her promotion and rents a small cottage in the village. Settling into a dramatically different lifestyle, she quickly meets many of the villagers, including the local outcast, Caden. Sam has no idea why Caden is so disliked as she finds him equally fascinating and infuriating. The summer that follows will change her life forever.
Highly recommended for 'me time'.

One Summer in Little Penhaven has two strong central characters and a cast of supporting friends and relatives who all add to its sense of community. Of course at times, that community seems to turn against some and it isn't the chocolate box Cornish village you usually expect. However, it has bags of personality and the fact that some prefer it is a clue to what makes some people tick. It tells you they don't follow the crowd and can see below the surface.
This is a book about starting again and reassessing just what you want from life. It is a lovely mixture of romance, comedy moments and touching insights into friendships and family ties. Loyalties are pushed to the limit as issues from the past are crying out to be dealt with. There are some strong female characters and I found Rory's new wife to be particularly surprising, as did anyone who took her appearance at face value. As a summer read, it ticks all the boxes and is one to read with a smile on your face.
In short: Chance meetings lead to life changing moments.

If you are a fellow Angela Britnell fan (What happens in Nashville was one of my first Choc Lit purchases) you will know that she excels at putting people in new places and seeing how they cope. Sam, the heroine of One Summer in Little Penhaven, copes by turning to Crunchie bars...
There are several threads to this story. The hero has suffered a sad loss and has a local reputation as the bad guy in his divorce. His brother is keeping dangerous company, again, with a new wife to look after and no resources. Sam struggles with her own expectations of herself and her mother's Southern input. Sam also meets a fairy godmother, finds new friends, reveals she is an ace at home improvements and enjoys her passion for Crunchies! You will enjoy being with her throughout her summer in Little Penhaven as she makes her discoveries.

When Sam loses out on promotion, she decides to escape to Cornwall for a while to consider her future. Little Penhaven is a tight knit community, but they take the stranger to heart, even warning her off the local ‘bad man’ Cadan. But there is an instant attraction and much more to Sam, than just a high-flying lawyer, she is quite used to doing her own D-I-Y for a start. Cadan has his own issues with family and knows the village’s gossip about him isn’t complimentary, but he finds something very attractive about the newly arrived American. This is a journey for both of them and I was with them every step of the way. Angela writes beautifully creating believable characters, in lovely settings, giving them obstacles to climb and plenty of intriguing twists and turns. A real page turner, I couldn’t put down.

I love how no nonsense Sam is. She really is a larger than life American, with so much front and personality. I always love the perspective of an American coming to England, getting used to all our customs and wierd sayings. And I totally understand Sam’s addiction to Chrunchies!
This book was great and very easy to get into. I listened to the audiobook which was entertaining and will definitely have to go on to listen to the next in this series now!

This is my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be my last, it's romance at its best!
Sam, over from the USA for a meeting, walks out of her job and decides to go to Cornwall and think. She's a go-getter and doesn't suffer fools gladly. When she's warned off of local boy Cadan, she wants to know why?
Cadan has lived in Little Penhaven all his life, so to have the village turn against him was hard, but he will let them think what they like, no one will know the true story, that is til he locks eyes with Sam.
Jory is Cadan's much younger brother, always messing up, but Cadan keeps his promise to his parents to look out for him. When Jory returns home and asks to see Cadan, Cadan can't help but think the worst!
I loved this story and can't wait to read the next in the series.

I enjoyed this book, found it easy to read and would happily recommend it to others. The heroine is feisty and the hero is gorgeous, with a bit of an extra story to the plot, what’s not to like?

Their attraction is immediate but of course they have to jump through a few hoops. Well worth the four stars I have given, and a good addition to Ms Britnell's portfolio.

This long book keeps you guessing and entertained. When Samantha (Sam) doesn't get the promotion she is expecting it changes her life in all directions. The setting of Cornwall is well portrayed and the small village of Little Penhaven believable, as are its inhabitants. The author plays on their merits and weaknesses without being at all demeaning.
The story between Sam and Cadon is a difficult relation but, again, is well written and you feel great sympathy with them both. Cadon is a misunderstood bad boy, and boy, would I have loved being in Sam's place! Sam rides in to restore his belief in love. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this believable book and loved it's ending.

This is a lovely read that would be perfect to add to your holiday reading pile.
Sam is a brilliantly vibrant character with lots of sass that you will instantly fall in love with when she stumbles upon Little Penhaven. This is my first book by Angela Britnell and I really enjoyed the characters she created and the way in which the story was told. It was a heartwarming story that touched on emotional subjects as Sam finds more than she bargained for in Little Penhaven.
This book made me laugh throughout and feel the emotions of Cade as he faced up to his past, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by Angela Britnell in the future.

I read a lot of crime novels, but every now and then I like a bit of romance, and this one certainly fitted in with that. Sam Muir had been working in London with her boss and another colleague, but just before they were due to to return to Tennessee, Sam finds out the partnership she expected has been given to her co-worker. Sam decides not to return home just yet, but where should she go? A chance encounter at the railway station sees her heading off to the small Cornish village of Little Penhaven,. Can she start a new life here, or is going to be a fleeting visit? A lovely book, and I enjoyed every page.

I read One Summer in Little Penhaven on holiday and it was a real treat. All of the characters are wonderfully brought to life as they draw you into their world and individual stories. Caden was a great male lead with depth and plenty of swoon appeal, and I enjoyed following Sam as she adjusted to the sudden changes in her life. She is a likeable, strong female lead who knows her own mind.
This was a heartwarming story, set in a community I was more than happy to escape into. A fab holiday read!

Very run of the mill story - based on the plot alone. Unfortunately, the execution is not doing the story any favors. Characters' actions are motivated by lust or not motivated at all. There is no dimension to any of them. Plot things happen, but there is no rhyme or reason for them. It seemed to be like the author got a story synopsis somewhere and was trying to fill it out without much understanding of human nature or even the story points themselves.
As a test of a new to me author, this one resulted in the verdict of "not for me".

A local bad boy, whose reputation is based on lies & gossip brings on Sam’s fighting spirit for the underdog, plus it doesn’t hurt Caden is gorgeous & fit.

I didnt care for any of the characters. I didnt like the love story. I thought it was dumb that these scary guys who threatened the brother were scred off by a pregnant lady and a girl from America. That whole storyline was stupid. Also you’re telling me a mother stayed away from her son’s grave just because her brother in law told her to stay away? Yea right
