One Scottish Vampire…One Sassy Shifter…One common goal…With an avian Shifter for a father, Harrier’s position among the Vampire elite was doomed from birth. When he joined the Legion in Fallen Cross, he felt he’d finally found, if not a home, at least someplace he could relax. His peaceful existence evaporated the day he met Kitty. Now, feelings he buried centuries ago have resurfaced, all because a little cat Shifter with bad table manners was too curious for her own good. Kythryn Flannigan is all about the shock value, using sarcasm and wit to smother the sorrow and pain that have followed her most of her adult life. From the moment the Vampire, Harrier, "abducted" her from the shadows last winter, she was one smitten kitten. Underneath his grumpy demeanor and giant-redwood proportions she sensed a male who, if nothing else, would make her toes curl. Now, a threat from their past has resurfaced, and the apparent end-game is to see her dead. With Harrier as her bodyguard, Kythryn may well survive the ferals’ attacks only to fall victim to something far more A Vampire capable of stealing her heart.

A nice read but it did not leave a great impact as of the previous books that I have read from the author.
But maybe too much of everything makes it exaggerated. Expectation and anticipation is slowly reveal... Life must be a continuous flow but in stories impact and relatability is a must.

3 stars for the love that expected to blossoms... 😊♥️💓

Well, that was not your average paranormal romance. A hot rockin bod, one sexy as sin Vampire. He abducts a sassy and high-spirited cat shifter who finds herself to be one smitten kitten for that hot vampire. But trouble comes calling. Will she keep her skin or will she end up as a wall trophy so to speak? This book is non-stop heart pounding and thrilling read. Well done

Fallen Prey A Fallen Cross Legion Novel (The Fallen Cross Legion Book 1) by Aliya DalRae

Shifters, Vampires & More Shifters! Oh my!

Harrier, our beloved character from The Jessica Sweet Trilogy reveals all in this in depth character driven story. If you loved him in the main series, you'll certainly fall in love even more.

Kathyrn is also back and falling for a more appropriate suitor this time—or did she?

This action packed story will have you soaring through the air and setting you down right in the middle of a battle. You'll also see many of your favorite characters from the main series getting a better understanding of who they are and where they're from.

Can't wait for the next one!

Fallen Prey is the first book of the Fallen Cross Legion series of novels. Despite this being labeled as the first book in the series, I had many moments where I felt like I missed a book. There are many apologies between characters and recapped battles which I’m guessing are spoilers to the Jessica Sweet book series by Aliya DalRae. Spoilers aside, I was still able to enjoy the story and figure out the relationships between the side characters without reading the other series due to DalRae’s excellent world-building skills. I was able to learn the rules of her shifters, vampires, sorcerers, and legion without suffering through a clunky background section. DelRae masterfully weaves information into dialog and action to create a fluid storyline without holes.
Fallen Prey is the love story of Kythryn (Kitty) the cat shifter and Harrier the avian shifter/vampire hybrid. It starts with a nod to the “Owl and the Pussy Cat” from classic literature which was a brilliant way to set the tone of the book. I enjoyed looking for parallels like Easter Eggs within the story, adding another layer to the novel’s complexity. Kitty’s one-liners and brash behavior was a laugh a page. She kept the book’s intensity light by adding a funny insult or colorful description amid dangerous situations. She was the perfect foil for Harrier. Together the couple makes my favorite trope in romance: the “grump with a broken heart” who falls for the “ray of sunshine”.
Harrier the damaged vampire is totally swoon-worthy. From his Scottish lilt to his catering to his young niece’s needs, he is a hero worthy chasing. Broken-hearted from the accidental death of a former girlfriend and on the outskirts due to his shifter heritage, Harrier is flawed but not to be pitied. He has a protective streak a mile wide and an unerring sense of responsibility to anyone in his circle, including Kitty. The pair know each other from another book at the beginning of this one but I quickly caught the sparks from their chemistry.
Despite dishy-vampire Harrier, there is a secondary romance blossoming that is more intriguing which compelled me to add the sequel to my shelves. Merlin, who seems like a former main character from another book, develops a rocky friendship with his bodyguard. When the bodyguard is injured, Merlin recognizes the bond growing between them and rejects it. The flirtation between them is so cute, I was rooting for them as much as the main couple. I can’t believe how much I wanted them to make their relationship work. I guess I will find out in the sequel, Fallen Captive.
Overall, I recommend this book as a light-hearted paranormal romance to anyone who wants fast action battles, a sassy heroine, and a swoon-worthy hero.

Just finished reading. Not entirely sure I remembered to eat and drink for the duration of this book. I know I barely breathed! My poor heart seems to be this author's favorite playtoy. Each book just grabs hold and bats it around! Must be a glutton for punishment though because I love it!! If you aren't familiar with the Fallen Cross books I suggest you go get some supplies, buy ALL of them, and then lock yourself away for an absolutely epic book binge!!
Just remember...MALCOLM IS MINE!!!!

More Harrier please!
Another hit for Miss DalRae. I'm a huge fan of this authors books. I never read many vampire stories before reading hers, and since discovering this gem of a writer, I can't get enough.
I was excited to find out Harrier had a story. He became a favorite in the Vengeance series. He's a mac n cheese, kitty lovin', vampire with a soft heart. He finally met his match when he found his kitty.
The book brought up other intriguing stories as well. I'm looking forward to reading them all.

Overview: A Scottish vampire and a sassy shifter come together to fight a common threat from their past in Aliya DalRae’s first chapter in her Fallen Cross Legion Series, “Fallen Prey”.

In “Fallen Prey”, the author winds an intriguing plotline that presents select characters from her popular Jessica Sweet Series with her short story collection based on this series, including “Bittersweet” and “Sweet Distraction”. In a completely unexpected way, the author unites a cast of characters that have thus far been kept out of the limelight, but whose stories have begged to be told.

DalRae demonstrates a stroke of genius, as well as a quirky sense of humor, in pairing her old-fashioned, uptight, Scottish vampire/shifter, and all-around outcast, Harrier, with Kythryn, (aka Kitty) a pesky feline shifter who is desperate to prove herself a competent and lethal warrior, but can’t seem to get out of her own way. The result is one dangerously sexy, hilarious, truly magical, and ultimately climactic paranormal-adventure.

While action and adventure enthusiasts will find suspense and chills throughout this read, paranormal and romance fans will certainly feel the magic in Harrier and Kitty’s outrageously contentious but magnetic relationship. This story is anything but the usual paranormal romance fare as the aforementioned supernatural couple tries to gross each other out while—at the same time—indulging their fierce libidos and attempting to wade through enough personal strife and self-doubt to fill a black hole. That the fate of the world is at stake while they carry on trying to forge an unlikely but inevitable relationship is just a given.

As DalRae fans well know, this author can be trusted to deliver a wild tale filled with plenty of teasing, foreplay, humor, and complete satisfaction. I highly recommend this book for paranormal romance fans who love double-entendres, huge deflections, and lots of back-and-forth, snappy repartee. “Fallen Prey” does contain adult situations, sex, and violence... It is therefore appropriate only for ages 17 and up.

The long awaited return to Fallen Cross is over and what a fantastic adventure it is! This amazing author has such talent in creating complex and believable characters. Harrier, the Scottish Vampire/Shifter, was introduced in the Jessica Sweet Trilogy and I couldn’t wait for this huge hunk of maleness to star in his own story. He is matched up with a petite, crass, cat-shifter named Kythryn. Harrier has hidden his feelings inside for so long but with the events of the previous months the ice surrounding his heart has just begun to melt. He still attempts to stay clear of the tempting cat-shifter. Any romantic relationship seems like an impossibility for both of this heart-broken pair. DalRae weaves the story building from their devastating back stories and into the current danger surrounding them. She moves the story along at a quick pace making it impossible to stop turning the pages. I loved that we were given several character POVs, allowing us the benefit of getting to know many of the supporting cast. Though I can’t wait to read more about the other Legion members, I truly hope we get to hear from Harrier and Kythryn again. Cats are known for their independent nature and ‘Kitty’ still seems to have a tendency for getting into trouble. Great storytelling and highly recommended!

The Owl and the Pussycat: Paranormal-Style

‘Fallen Prey’ (The Fallen Cross Legion, Book 1) is a must-read—especially if you were already hooked on ‘The Sweet Trilogy’. In this book, a select few background characters have emerged as key players in their own right, delivering the action.

On that front, there’s more than enough blunt-force drama and trauma to keep any reader turning the pages in rapid succession.

As for blunt-force drama:

The name Ulrich Fuhrmann should get your blood boiling. And, if you’ve read the short story, ‘Sweet Distraction,’ mercenary, Felino Stavali, crosses Kathryn’s mind and makes a brief appearance.

The story is rife with tension and bawdy banter between Harrier, a hybrid Vampire/Avian Shifter who prefers taking flight as an owl, and Cat Shifter, Kathryn (Kitty) Flannigan. Keep your eyes peeled on Rachel and Nox; Martin and Merlin. There’s bad blood between Nox and Maxx.

As for blunt-force trauma:

There’s that matter about the Fur Farm-- the Coup de Ville, a relic from bygone, better days, parked off to the side. The Legion and Ferals square off with weaponry on the premises, leaving plenty of body parts behind.

Well-written with a cast of compelling characters and lots of irreverence, you’ll want to shift your next reading focus on ‘Fallen Prey,’ a book I highly recommend.

Love the change in pace

I really wanted to give this 5 stars. The storyline was beautifully written and the characters were absolutely amazing, but, I think character description should be given right away and not slowly filled out through the story. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the world building, storyline and characters. Thrilling and sexy and definitely a fun read!

I purchased paperbacks of this series from the author and I am so glad I did. This story played out like a really great movie. One of those movies that have such great imagery you are sucked in and can't look away. This story dies just that, grips you and holds your attention until the last word. These characters have all the great things readers look for. The banter, fight, and heat will set your Kindle or paperback on fire.

I have been a fan of Aliya's since her first book, Sweet Vengeance, if you didn't love Harrier before, you will most definetly love the first book in this series. Aliya brings Harrier to life and love in this , the first book of this new series. Her male characters are always strong, and not always gentle, cause you know, they are vampires. She has a way of showing their softer side without making them a lesser man. And her female characters are strong and capable women who go after what they want, Kythryn absolutely kicks ass in this book. Aliya grows stronger as a writer and gives her characters more depth with each book she writes! Absolutely a 5 star read,

More vampires, werewolves & werecats

Another spell binding adventure in the paranormal world. The sorcerer even put in a short appearance, but he didn’t stay long once he got the ball rolling creating havoc in everyone’s lives in the Fallen Cross area. Raven and his twin, Nox, their fair share of the havoc plus problems carried over from the previous books. But you’ll have to read the same books I did to find what happened when & where and to who and let me assure you, you will not regret it.
