Anna Suarez’s debut collection, Papi Doesn’t Love Me No More explores themes of love, loss, sex work, and abuse. Anna Suarez utilizes folklore and myths to explore who Papi is and what he means to her. Her poetry is a friend, lover, and confessional narrative celebrating the cathartic power of desire and the self.
“Anna Suarez's lush collection is a pomegranate seed of a book written in blood and honey, using mythic imagery and raw confession in equal measure.”
-Michelle Ruiz Keil, author of All of Us With Wings
"Glowing, shattering poetry about blood and being blue-hooded and glistening as Woman, Whore, Slut, God-Seeking Catholic Girl seeking home. Love. Also autonomy. Agency. She's the one always being spoken of, and should be. Suarez rewrites scripture summoning the sweet strength of survival, having learned power through yielding to it. Visceral. Opalescent."
- Jenny Forrester, author of Narrow River, Wide Sky: A Memoir
"Anna takes you on a journey from sensuality to despair and from hope to harsh realism. She captures the peril of intimacy through shattered rose colored glasses and takes you back to potential and most importantly, to awe."
Beautiful, sensual poetry. I have such a hard time with young poets and I’ve been disappointed by a few collections lately, but this was incredible. Would definitely recommend.
Anna Suarez writes beautifully raw poetry. I love the metaphors and emotions in her works. This is for the fiery women waking into their wild. Can't wait to read her next book!!
This collection is marvelous. Elegant and sensual, the allusions were well-placed. And now I want to eat fruits all day. A debut worth far greater than the paper it's printed on.
I liked the meditations on God, sex, and relationships. While reading, I thought: this really reminds me of Lana Del Rey. I love Lana btw if that wasn't clear! I'll definitely look for more work from this author.
I really enjoyed the beautiful language of this moving poetry collection. Suarez approaches each piece with an honesty and vulnerability that lures the reader into every poem. I’m excited to see what she writes next!
