Welcome to HUDDLE! Vol. 2! How are you? It's great to see you. Get comfy!
Where the first volume of HUDDLE! was a compilation of spontaneous sketches, HUDDLE! 2 is a bit more considered. First, you may notice it's in color. Second, it not only has watercolor sketches from Gale, but digital drawings from my buddy Mad and an excellent grouping of words by my friend Kate.
Ngozi Ukazu is an American cartoonist and graphic novelist. She is the author of the online graphic novel series Check, Please!. She studied at Yale University and the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Legit threw my head back with laughter multiple times as I read this. Longer than the first Huddle zine, and also somehow even better! Besides being funny as heck, it was also v cute.
Just some fun extra check please content I enjoyed. I’d say these books are definitely for those that are really invested in this series and have some experience within the series fandom spaces. No rating cause this is just a little zine and not the same as the books I rate.
The Check Please series is one of my very, very favorite pieces of fiction I'm going to be reading and reading Check Please for the rest of my life. It's funny, it's clever, it's romantic, it's complicated, and it has a wonderful ensemble cast. It receives my very highest recommendation.
All I can say about the Huddle zines is: THEY'RE WORTH IT FOLKS. I saved up and treated myself to the digital copies of the zines when I was having a really rough couple of months (I spaced the zines out) and I cannot overstate how great these zines are as potent pick-me-ups.
Re-read June 2023 in honor of CP's tenth anniversary!: I'm really going for the full experience during this re-read. For the uninitiated, the Huddle zines are goofy, sexy little extras, not canon to the actual story. They're basically fanart, even though some of the sketches are by Ngozi herself.
