AKA Emilie Baker Loring
Emilie Baker was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1864 to George M. Baker and Emily Frances (Boles) Baker. Her father was a playwright and publisher and her mother was a homemaker. Loring married Victor J. Loring, who was a lawyer. She began writing in 1914, published her first novel in 1922 at the age of 56, and continued writing until her death after a long illness in 1951. She was a prolific American romance novelist of the 20th century, known for her "wholesome love" romances and independent, spirited heroines. Beyond romance, her books also explore a selection of topics including, but not limited to marriage, love, American patriotism, freedom, and optimism. She died in Wellesley, Massachusetts on March 13, 1951. At the time of her death, she had sold more than a million copies of her first thirty books.

After her death, her estate was managed by her sons, Selden M. and Robert M. Loring, who, based on a wealth of unfinished material they discovered, published twenty more books under her name until 1972. These books were ghost-written by Elinore Denniston. taken largely from wiki, made some corrections (dates didn't add up) per her biographer

My grandma was a fan of Emilie Loring's books. They are basically all gentle reads (not religious). All involve a plucky young heroine whose values, sense of humor, and sense of responsibility are intact. The heroines all face some sort of trial, usually involving a mystery - sometimes a murder - and all the heroines find their true love.

Most of these are what might be called "quaint"; they reflect the values of the author from the 20s through the 60s. There are some elements that might be called racist, classist, and sexist today, but these are minor issues. The stories are the main attraction and are interesting.

After my grandma died, I found copies of the Loring novels that she hadn't beem able to collect (there are 50 in all), and since then, I've read each one and enjoyed most of them. If you're looking for a good, spirited, gentle read, try one of these.

This is a Harlequin?!

Without getting into too much detail and giving away the plot I have to say that this book was excellent.

It was not like a Harlequin romance at all, it had Intrigue and mystery, romance and drama, lots of angst and some funnies.

The characters were all excellently written. In reality there was two male main characters and one female, however, the supporting characters took over sometimes as though they were the main characters. At times they were hilarious at others maddening and some evil.

I can't recommend this book enough! In order to let you know how good it was I would have to give spoilers and I don't want to spoil this book for anyone. There are a few twists and turns i don't want to give away.

The whole book was awesome, but the ending, the HEA was a little weak, especially with the rest of the book being the way it is. It wasn't a bad HEA, Just to short and lacking in details.

I finally decided to confess my Emilie Loring "problem." These books have lived at our family cottage for nearly 50 years--and I won't confess how many times I've read them. They are very nearly "period" pieces, reflecting another time, my mother's youthful dreams, perhaps.

I actually flew through this book - it was quite the page turner for me. Some Emilie Loring books are easier to set down than others, and I didn't feel like this was one of those. And although I didn't particularly enjoy the subterfuge, it made for an interesting read. The only thing I passionately disliked was the female protagonist. And it's not that she wasn't a likeable character...it was that she was infernally stupid. She fell for literally every single lie that was told to her. I guess that just means she's a trusting soul - but come on! Were you just born yesterday?

If it wasn't for the stupidity and the abject lying, this would 100% be a re-read for me, but maybe not...still worth a read though, since it was a fast read and exciting.

I started reading Emile Loring books when I picked up a paperback from a rack in a hotel lobby (for 50 cents) while on my sister's & my yearly vacation to visit my father. Hooked! I went on to purchase and read every Emilie Loring romance written and available in paperback, not knowing that she had died before I was even born. I loved these books, but read them when I was between about 12 and 18 years old. I was a young reader - do keep that in mind! :-)

Another cute romance. Main character was a little helpless at first, but she learned to be stronger. I enjoyed the surprise murder mystery.

Ending was a little quick. There was one final challenge to their romance, and it was resolved a little quickly, without explaining how she would explain to everyone else her sudden singleness.

Great read

I didn't like that the heroine was a little too stupid about men, but it was still a great read

Every now and then I have to read an Emilie Loring book - she's just one of my favorite early 20th century authors. I found one I had not read and enjoyed it as usual. They're not always super easy to follow, and quite predictable usually, but sweet too.

A plane crash, a train wreck , a murder and more

This mystery has all the elements needed for a good book. It takes place in the early 50and when gambling was a tremendous problem.
