You Must Remember Us...

Rate this book
When Earth died the specially picked and trained complement of the spaceship New World was annihilated before it could go aboard. Instead, Captain Saunder found himself saddled with a bunch of nondescript second-raters. Nevertheless, a planet to support and perpetuate the race had to be found, and he was a man of iron resolution and determined to succeed.

But then they encountered in the depths of Space a derelict alien ship, and from this came stark tragedy. Survival now lay through horror, and the most macabre surgery ever conceived, and when this had been performed they were no longer men and women. To the natives of the world they eventually discovered they were gods, yet they were not these either.

The writing was ok. I just felt that on a few occasions there was some big leaps and conclusions which felt a bit contrived.

I get the impression it was supposed to be a thought provoking but it just felt odd and forced.

In the end there didn’t seem to be an awful lot of point to what happened. It was just a drawn out catastrophe for the unfortunate crew of the ship with bits of magic that the author pretended were science.

This book has the feel of the 1930s in style and the attitudes of the characters. The plot is simple and linear, based around survival after the end of the world. The mystery of the alien spaceship is left unresolved and appears to be simply padding. I found this a rather unsatisfying read.
