The Seaside Saga #9

Little Beach Bungalow

Rate this book
From the New York Times bestselling author of Night Beach comes a novel as alluring as a weathered cottage by the sea.

The cottage is nestled along winding Sea View Road, set back from the sandy street. Surrounded by swaying dune grass, it's a shabby little beach bungalow with an open back porch overlooking a sparkling Long Island Sound. A sign propped in the front window says: For Rent.

Well, the cottage was For Rent ... until one particular lobsterman booked a summer stay there. As Shane Bradford settles into the New England beach town of Stony Point, he unloads more than boxes and duffels. With his arrival, he unpacks secrets, and entwined histories, among his circle of beach friends. Old loves surface. New ones emerge, too.

Little Beach Bungalow follows Shane's simmering summer days back on the Connecticut shore, and much is in store.

Wow what a jaw dropping page turning beach read. Felt a mix of emotions as I read how Shane’s visit was causing a rift between the beach friends and bringing back past memories and events that they did not want to resurface. Can’t wait to read the continuation of this great series.

Little Beach Bungalow is the ninth book in the Seaside Saga series, and it's my new favorite! When Shane Bradford returns to Stony Point he stirs up anger and resentment with his brother and some of his old friends, but he also stirs up long-lost feelings and memories with one of them, creating problems none of them could foresee. I found this story to be extremely emotional, full of secrets and pain, and tender moments that stole my breath. The characters in this book are like old friends now, and their personalities, their imperfections, their longings really come to life. The setting is perfection, from the cottages to the beaches, from the inn to the rocky coastline. Although this is book 9, this book can easily be read as a standalone, as enough background is provided to acquaint new readers. I highly recommend that you read all of them, to watch as their stories and relationships evolve, getting to know all of them from the beginning.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

The Seaside Saga continues right where Night Beach leaves off. Kyle and Lauren off by themselves trying to get their relationship back on track after Kyle’s brother took almost everyone by surprise when he showed up for their vow renewal. The rest of the group assumes Shane has gone back to his lobster boat. Instead, he found a little bungalow for rent at the end of Sea View Road and decided to stay a while.

The group finds out basically one by one that the man is still in their midst when he basically releases hurricane strength issues that rocks the lives of many of the group I have come to love over the course of this series. One character seemed to have a breakthrough but my heart broke for all the others. This was a very emotional read. There are touches of humor but not enough to really lift my spirits.

I love the beach setting of this series and the characters. The author’s words take us right there, on the scene of everything that happens. With the use of flashbacks, we get another visit back to the beach friends history that this time makes an upheaval in the current times.

I am going to be frank, I really don’t like Shane. I was on the fence at the end of the last book but this time he really rubbed me the wrong way. I understand he was hurt by things in the past that kept him away for years, but there are better ways to deal with that pain. I have become invested in these characters and they have endured pains of their own. We still haven’t gotten the whole Shane/Kyle story. I hope that comes out soon, so the characters I love can heal.

Ms. Damaio has a talent of getting her reader to feel deep emotions. She tests us and tempts us. She draws us in and holds us tight. While I don’t always like what is happening in the story I can’t put the book down. I need to know what happens next.

I don’t like that she leaves us with a cliffhanger either, but thankfully we never have to wait too long in between books. There are some major things that need to be dealt with so I am anxiously awaiting the next book, Every Summer. I also can’t wait to get back to what hopefully will be a more tranquil time at the beach.

I just finished the last page of Little Beach Bungalow and my heart feels like it is skipping a beat. I am going to have a hard time waiting to read Joanne DeMaio's next book Every Summer. These series of beach books becomes more dear with each new story and this 9th book is awesome, leaving literally a cliffhanger of suspense. The characters are so real with life dilemmas, mistaken ideas, secrets and past events that keep on bringing up their history leading to timely connections that can alter their future. The beautiful descriptions in each book are ones that fill the senses with the sea, the surf, the smell of the salt air, the wonderful cooked dishes from the Ocean Star Inn and the lovely charm of the cottages that make you feel just like you are one with this story. I loved this book, as I did all of the others. They can be read as a stand alone, but I think once you read one you will want to read all of them.

LITTLE BEACH BUNGALOW
AUTHOR: JOANNE DEMAIO

FIVE PLUS STARS

Joanne DeMaio - my go to author!

She has created the most amazing, caring cast of characters for her Stony Point, Connecticut, seaside series. Stony Point is a small town where neighbors are friendly and supportive…..friendships are cherished…..family is precious.

I loved returning to Stony Point and reuniting with my beach friends to witness how the relationship between Kyle and his estranged brother, Shane, progresses. They had many issues, but they are still brothers, and their dynamics will break your heart and heal you as well.

Little Beach Bungalow will tug at your heart and give you the warm tingling feeling of love and friendship.

This series is not to be missed. It is a series that I hope never ends.

As with all the other books she has written about these beach friends as she is telling their story you feel like you are right there with them. Feeling their high points as well as their low points. I just can't seem to get enough of them.

Each book picks up where the last one left off, but she tells enough of the story in each book that you don't feel lost. I really enjoyed this book and couldn't seem to get enough and then it just ended It's not fair that she ended it like that, now I have to wait for the next book. But I have to admit, once I get my hands on her books I can't wait to read them. Sometimes I forget to turn the light off and go to sleep knowing that if I don't I will be exhausted the next day, but that's ok.

Love her stories and can't seem to get enough of these beach friends. If you haven't read the other books of hers you need too, and then you really need to check this one out, you will be so glad that you did.

Joanne DeMaio has written another chapter in the lives and times of the beach friends at Stony Point. It’s the 9th book in this series and carries on right from where Night Beach left off. It’s a seaside saga that hooks you right from the start. It draws you into the lives of the characters and makes you want to follow along to be a part of their joys and sorrows of everyday life. I can honestly say what attracts me to these books is the location. The author describes the setting so perfectly, I feel like I’m right there on the water. This book was a complete surprise to me the way it ended. I did not see it coming. Total shock! Now I have to wait patiently to see what the author has in store next for my beach friends future in her next installment, Every Summer. I’m hoping my wait isn’t long!

Author never disappoints with each new novel in series. At once you feel reconnected with the family and friends, their joys and heartbreaks.Joanne DeMaio has the rare talent that weaves many twists and turns into the storyline. The setting is so descriptive you feel as though you should apply sunscreen. The cliffhanger ending leaves you counting down until “Every Summer” is released ,to see just how disruptive Shane’s visit truly will be.If you have not started this series you really should.

Continuing saga

Strange ending. Guess this is the authors idea of a cliff hanger. Getting to be more like a soap opera. Think it needs to end pretty soon.

In Little Beach Bungalow, the beach friends' story continues where Night Beach left off. Author Joanne DeMaio transports the reader back to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut, where the summer season is coming to a close. The story picks up with the lives of friends: Maris, Jason, Eva, Matt, Kyle, Lauren, Elsa, Cliff, Nick, Paige, Vinny, and Celia. But in this installment of the popular Seaside Saga Series, the focus is on Kyle's estranged brother Shane Bradford.

In Little Beach Bungalow, Author Joanne DeMaio easily captivates her readers' attention with this beautifully written tale through a seamless and flowing storyline, and with a wonderful description of a tranquil beach setting that wraps itself around the reader like a sun-warmed beach towel. The characters draw you into their lives with a strong emotional pull, their complexities and flaws are true-to-life, it is easy to relate to them with compassion, empathy, and hope.

With a mixture of intrigue, suspense, drama, humor, heartache, hidden secrets, romance, and a strong bond of friendship, this story takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride revolving around Kyle and Shane's estranged brotherly relationship. The close of the summer season and Shane's appearance and decision to rent a shabby little beach bungalow brings old memories, long held secrets, past hurts, and an entwined history among the beach friends. As time heals all wounds, so does the sea air, and this group of friends lives by the credo: "salt air, not a care" and "cast away your troubles straight into the sea." The shimmering denim blue sea with its calming effect will offer them another summer season of hope, love, family, friendship, heartache, mistakes, forgiveness, redemption, and blissful new beginnings. But alas, mistakes, secrets, past painful issues, and a surprising cliffhanger will leave the reader impatiently waiting to read more about Shane in Every Summer, the next installment in The Seaside Saga Series. So now that I have whet your interest in the beach friends latest comings and goings, drive under the railroad trestle and enter the enchanting beach town of Stony Point ... pull up a beach chair ... and visit with the close-knit longtime friends in author Joanne DeMaio's delightful novel, Little Beach Bungalow.

Little Beach Bungalow is an intricate story of interweaving friendships, life events, and deep family secrets and drama. It is a wonderful story that continues to demonstrate the power of the magical sweet salt air that will cure what ails you.

The Seaside Sage Series is a heartwarming series of stories of friendship, family, painful secrets, new beginnings and second chances. Author Joanne DeMaio weaves a wonderful tale written in the third person narrative, that is set in the present with flashbacks to the past. The reader is transported to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut, where they follow along with Celia, Maris, Eva, Matt, Jason, Kyle, Lauren, Nick, Elsa, and Cliff as their lives change like the tide's ebb and flow on their little tranquil coastal town.

Just More of the Same

I am finally done with this group of beach friends. Both Jason and Kyle just need to grow up, and I'm tired of their quick bursts of anger. The author uses trite phrases related to characters tucking strands of hair behind their ears ... over and over. And, the constant descriptions of characters' clothing is distracting and doesn't enhance the story. This particular book didn't end - it just stopped. So very disappointing.

I still love Joanne DeMaio books but Little Beach Bungalow left me worrying about Maris at the end of the story. I loved that Cecila got out her anger that Salvador De Luca had died. She was angry that he had kept his heart condition from her and did not propose marriage to her until it was too late. Cecila raged at him with Shane present and later at the whole plan to get her come back and dissuade Elsa from selling. In truth, I think that Cecila needed more time to herself to recover from her loss and more time to think for herself, For me that was the best part of the book.

The main part of this book focuses on the fact that Shane did not leave. Jason's brother, Shane did not feel like he was ready. He wanted to stay. I was undecided about Shane in the previous book but now disturbed by him. He picked up Cliff's lucky domino and never returned it. He told his brother about being engaged to Maris long ago. He did not tell Kyle ahead of time that he was invited and coming to the Kyle and Lauren's renewal of wedding vows. I felt that he did have time while traveling to contact Kyle but he did not. I really enjoyed the scene of Kyle including a big surprise in Shane's sandwich. I laughed and laughed.

Usually I do not tell so much of what goes on when I review a book, but I felt it was importanr to explain my feelings This got to me personally, I am hopeful in the next book, Every Summer will leave me with a more comfortable feeling.

I received an Advance Copy of this book from the author and my thoughts and feelings in this review are my own.

My Thoughts: Little Beach Bungalow brings together the Stony Point friends and adds another layer to the past.

Shane Bradford’s story takes the reader back fifteen years to a breach between him and his brother Kyle. We never do get the details of what happened between the brothers, but all of the regular friends in Stony Point are lined up on Kyle’s side, which annoyed me a little. But since they are Kyle’s friends, I could understand it. However, I am not a fan of Kyle and his temper tantrums. I was more intrigued to learn what had happened from Shane’s perspective.

In the end, we are left not really knowing what will happen next, which means the ongoing series will pull me in once again. 5 stars.

Little Beach Bungalow by Joanne DeMaio
Story picks up where the last one left off but can be read as a standalone because you are given vague glimpses into the past.
Right off the bat I'm loving the new words I'm learning and how at ease I feel as if I'm right there at the shoreline.
It's a dreary, in the 40's kind of day and I feel the warmth from their sun.
This book encompasses many lives and as an extra bonus the manuscript is being urned into a book. There are so many sides to this book, can't get enough of it.
At times I feel so sad for the scenes unfolding in front of me, I hurt and ache for them, for the people involved, at times laughing so hard at the pranks and the lifelong friends over the years. Still learning about all the secrets.
Twists and turns as people come back into their lifes leaving a mark...
So many misunderstandings that need to be fixed...
The next book is highlighted at the end. About the author is also included.
I was given this review copy by the author via Book Fun (The Book Club Network) and this is my honest opinion

Loved it....now I have to wait for more. This book had a cliffhanger for several Stony Point friends. As with the last book I wrote about, I’m leaving my key points. You will see these as you read and this book will leave you waiting for the next book in the Saga “Every Summer”. Look for:
The actual Little Beach Bungalow, everyone knows about apparently, Shane, Shane and Celia?, Maris?, Maris’s unknown engagement, as always the sea “cures what ails you”, 2nd chances...come on Kyle !, Kyle, Shane and their Dad...still not definitive but has to do with Dad’s death, The Inn is about to open, Aria with Grandad, Celia to help Elsa but, who is she with and when will she help?, Maris still writing at the the wonderful shack, Jason, sees the unseen, Sailor’s Knot engagement ring, simple beach life was the offer and what Maris ended up choosing, Maris wanting a 2nd chance?, Maris does not know where Jason went but, we do..... Can’t wait for the next book. Until then, I will miss everyone and will hold these images in my mind. Making a happiness Jar. Thank you, Joanne!!!!!!

Little Beach Bungalow takes the reader, once again, back to the beautiful beach town of Stony Point. We get to catch up with the lives of everyone in the community. It's a community full of love, drama, and hopefully forgiveness.

Shane's return to Stony Point stirs up a lot of emotions and feelings from the past. Everyone's lives are turned upside down when he then decides to stick around. Can the past be forgiven and forgotten? And how are all of their lives going to change?

I absolutely adore this series and I love going back to this wonderful place with all the caring and gracious people who have become my friends. And I love how Joanne always leaves her stories with a little twist at the end that makes me want more.

Joanne's beach books make me feel like I'm taking a little vacation to the sand and water and I love my time there. Little Beach Bungalow truly is the perfect summer read.

With this book in the continuing saga of the friends in Stoney Point we are learning more of their history and how the bonds of love and friendship can be really tested.
Everyone is excited for the renewal vow celebration of Kyle and Lauren’s tenth anniversary. Until someone arrives, seemingly uninvited, after an absence of 15 years. What his arrival causes is distrust and angst among the friends.
He is an estranged brother to one and a former lover to another.
Can the past be forgotten or even forgiven?
I love reconnecting with all the friends at Stoney Point and look forward to Joanne DiMaio writing her next book. I received an ARC for my honest review.

I didn’t want this book to end. Sign of a great story by a great author. I love this beach series. And there’s always a new twist to every book.
But I have to say I’m so tired of Jason Barlow. His woe is me act has gotten old. Everything he does should be excused because he lost his brother and he lost his leg and he’s been traumatized and he’s so put upon. The only one who’d really call him on it is Eva, Maris’ sister, but Maris keeps stopping her from really giving him a piece of her mind. I’m right there with you Eva!
She really brought out more of the stages of grief with Celia - a total surprise.

When authors have ended series after 7 or 8 books, I was sad, but now I know why. There is only so much you can write about characters before it gets stale and this series is getting stale. I’m tired of Jason and Kyle and their childish behavior and I’m tired of the constant descriptions of the women’s clothing - distressed, ripped skinny jeans. I may read the next book, in hopes that the author will tie up all the loose ends and finish the series it I may skip it for a book that is less depressing. I had a literature professor tell me that there has to be conflict and sadness to make literature, but this book and the one before it are just depressing.

I thought this book was good, except for one thing that I really do not like; and that is, when an author leaves you hanging at the end of the book so you will buy the next one. Not sure I will read any additional books by this author. I loved the setting of the book and the characters were okay, but much of the storyline was kind of predictable. At any rate, if I decide to read another one of DeMaio's books, I'll start at the beginning. I realized halfway through the book that these same characters are in many, if not all, of her books.

Finally a really good novel! I so wish I had started with the first book in The Seaside Saga series. I can't decide if I should start the series to pick up the history of all the characters. (I found myself googling people to get their backstory.) The characters are real people with issues like the rest of us. I could see and feel the setting on Long Island Sound. I actually have the next novel in the series sitting beside me.

Those Beach Friends

Are at it again. Love is a strong emotion...and just like the sea...a force to be reckoned with. The monkey wrench will be thrown at the ties that bind couples together and the friends too. The ending is pure Joanne. You won’t believe that you’ve turned the last page.

This book makes you think and feel . Trouble in paradise. Everything is changing, because of one person, Shane. His presence causes anger, heartache, understanding, happiness and so much more. Him staying at the little beach bungalow, will bring up many old memories and maybe make new ones. Can they all survive his visit.
