I'm dangerously attracted to the man I was hired to keep safe.
As an ex-military private security guard, I know how to be in constantly close proximity with someone while remaining professional and reserved. But my training and experience falls apart once I meet my newest client, Gibson Hughes.
"Gib" isn't what I was expecting after his uncle hired me to protect a rock star who is receiving threatening emails from a crazed fan, and I find myself loving that and everything else about him a lot more than I should. Sure, Gib is super handsome and has found wild success in his music. But even though he now lives in a mansion in a swanky Los Angeles enclave, he comes from small and quaint Baytown, where he still has loyal friends from high school.
While other rock stars are partying like crazy, Gib is more of an introvert, choosing to stay home and immerse himself in writing music and reading books. While they're swooping up a variety of women who throw themselves at their feet, Gib has always been more quietly interested in men.
But the stalker is escalating his attacks, and there’s talk that it might even be an inside job, for publicity’s sake. Gibs' physical well-being is in danger and his reputation is on the line. I know I need to stay focused on my job, and that Gib needs to stay focused on his music, but all I can really seem to focus on are those ripped abs and beautiful blue-green eyes of his.
I'm not supposed to hook up with my clients, and Gib hasn’t exactly come out as the gay front man of his rock band. If word were to get around that we’re together, Gib's career- and safety- would be in jeopardy, not to mention my own.
As we try to figure out who is trying to cause Gib harm and why, and as the stalker's antics ramp up even more, my heart is racing for all the wrong reasons.
I know I should remain professional and keep my hands off my client's hot body. But will Gib and I risk it all to give in to our wildest fantasies?
Because You Protected Me is a full-length standalone billionaire rock star and bodyguard, coming out, opposites attract, gay romance novel that combines humor, heat and heart. It has no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a very happy after ever. Warning: This slow burn turns so hot you'll want a fan for your Kindle!
It's Book 4 in the Baytown Boys series which can be read alone and in any order. Due to related characters and settings, they’re best read altogether... and a tall glass of water to cool you off after so much steam.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the fourth book in the Baytown Boys series. In this book, Gib is the lead singer of a rock band that is going through changes. Two members of the band are leaving to form their own band and Gib wishes them well, but he is facing pressure from his uncle Brian who is also his manager. Gib has also been getting threatening e-mails from a fan and Brian thinks it is time to hire a bodyguard for Gib. Hunter is a former military man who is now working in private security. When Hunter goes to interview for the bodyguard position, he thinks Gib is very attractive, but knows he can't get involved with a client. Hunter and Gib try to get to know one another, while keeping things professional, but they are both very attracted to each other. When Gob tried to kiss Hunter, he thought Hunter was rejecting him and he was nervous how they would move forward. Hunter is growing closer to Gib the longer he is protecting him and he is finding it harder to fight his feelings. When more threats come in, Hunter turns to a friend to trace the e-mails and hopefully find the stalker. I loved this story. I really loved Hunter and Gib together. I think Gib was a really nice guy who didn't like to offend anyone, leading to him being a little of a pushover, but i think Hunter helped him stand up for himself. Another great one from Ian.
It was a great end to the Baytown series. I love the characters Gib and Hunter. Gib is very sweet and trusting and hates conflict. While Hunter is the alpha male and just wants to protect Gib. He doesn't trust easy and that come in handy in his job. They felt the attraction straight away but I was glad they didn't act on it straight away like in other bodyguard books. They waited till they were sure and it sure was hot when they finally came together. It always seems to be stakers that bring bodyguard and their client together. The two things that bothered me in the book were that in the first book when Gib goes to his reunion he tells Ashton about his stalker and his bodyguard is already with him. But in this book Hunter never went with him as they met months later which is odd. Also you never hear what happens to the stalker when Hunter realises who it is. That is never followed up so you never know if their ever caught. In my book Gib may be a bit naive in some places because of his too trusting nature and wanting to forgive and forget attitude. But as a whole I love the story and the sexy times where hot but didn't take over. I love catching up with everybody and seeing everyone happy, married and in love. A great end to the series!
Music, harassment and manipulation I like the romances of Ian Finn: they are always well written and allow to address a point in romantic relationships sometimes more complicated for homosexuals, especially in this one, the hesitations to approach someone by not knowing his sexual orientation. Moreover this story is this time more complex because of the threats that the hero, an important singer, Gibson, receives, which become more and more aggressive, to the point that he has to hire a bodyguard, Hunter, a former soldier . Although both are attracted to each other, doubts about their orientation, their employer / employee situation, the risk of danger from Hunter if he is deconcentrated when he has to protect Gibson, or the public relations game with the media, are as much problems to take the risk if they get closer. So, this is a very good romance, which beyond the relationship, has a lot of reversals related to the ongoing investigation. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This is a wonderful slow-burn MM romance & it was a pleasure to read. The plot is well-written & entertaining with some unexpected events, the unique characters are quite complex with realistic & believable flaws. There is: a ex-military private security guard is hired for protection (Hunter Rhodes), a male rock-star/musician needing protection (Gibson Hughes aka Gib), his apparently caring uncle (Brian), a caring friend (Ashton), mystery, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, drama, deceit, betrayal, threats, danger, a stalker, creepy emails, obsession, verbal disagreements, opinions, attractions, fantasies, memories, judgmental attitude, a unwelcomed gift, shock, horror, law enforcement, paranoia, suspicions, discovery, accusations, disbelief, shock, verbal conflict, assaulted, attempted apologies, anger, disdain, confrontations, guilt, love, happiness, some steam & a well-deserved happy conclusion. I really would recommend this MM romance.
I really like at least one of the guys in my mm stories to be an alpha which didn't happen with this book. Also I didn't feel Hunter acted like a real bodyguard. So many situations were wishy-washy, or insecure, or I don't know, hinky and unprofessional at best. I wouldn't hire him that's for sure, especially with how at the end he's gossiping about his latest client? Really?!? And I always want a good descriptive epilogue, but this one just went on, and on, and on, with nothing much to add. I really wanted to know what happened to Lyric at the end? Was she punished? Gib was okay I guess, but I couldn't help but think the industry would've eatten him up and spit him out if he was really as naive, and whimpy, as he's portrayed here. I won't be reading any more of this series. Sorry. Not sorry.
I love this series. The stories are so heartwarming. This one completely adds to that. Hunter and Gib seem to have little in common and yet the author finds a way to bring them together. The way Hunter is so protective and Gib so oblivious to things seem to add to their attraction. I like that Gib as an artist had to feel before he could create. I enjoyed the way Hunter could also be strong and shy. I was surprised at the stalker or what made up the stalker. Again it pointed out Gib’s ability to overlook things. It also didn’t hurt that the sex is seriously hot. I appreciate how the author keeps some of the previous characters active in the stories. I look forward to the next.
I don't like writing negative reviews, but I couldn't finish this. There were grammar and formatting issues that have been in all of this series so far. I thought things may have improved as the series went, but this (for me) is the least well written. There is nothing wrong with the storyline, but its execution hasnt been done very well. Number 1 rule of being an author is 'Show, don't tell', and there is far too much telling in this book. I won't be reading any more of this series.
Because you protected me was fun entertaining and intriguing. The book is a who done it story about a rock star and a stalker. Gibson is the front man for Silver Fire rock group. When he begins getting disturbing emails his uncle and business manger Brian hires a bodyguard. Hunter is ex military bodyguard, he good at his job and takes guarding Gibson seriously. When the threats escalate it’s up to Hunter to track down the stalker.
2.5 stars. I was looking forward to this book in the series after reading its premise about a bodyguard and lead singer in a band falling in love. However, neither character was that strong or interesting, and I was distracted by several typos or wrong words. The entire series needs a better editor, but mistakes seemed especially bothersome in this book. Stocker plot seemed contrived, and I just didn’t really care about these characters that much.
This is so good Hunter was hired to be Gibs bodyguard because he had a stalker ..... There is more to the story and I thought it was the uncle but there is a twist in the story that will shock you..... I loved that all the friends from Baytown was in it ..... I recommend reading this book and The other three .......
Finds his true love. Gib has a successful music career, but two of his members want to go on their own, he doesn't have a problem, but his Uncle does. He's been threats from a stalker, so they hire Hunter. Hunter tried to stay professional and find out who is behind it, but there is an attraction.
Hunter and Gib are night and day personality wise but they have off the charts chemistry together. I enjoyed reading Ian Finn books because they are so entertaining and you just have to know what is going to happen next.
I volunteerly review this Advance Readers Copy of this book. But I also bought it for my collection.
I so love everything Ian Finn writes!! This new book was awesome and I had new characters to fall in love with!! Thank you! Ian Finn for all you share with us!! 💙💙💙💙
I loved this story. Gib and Hunter were great together, and had amazing chemistry. Both were adorable with their initial attraction, then wondering if it was mutual. Definitely a favorite from this author.
Gib is being sent some emails that cause some concern so he hires a body guard to help protect him but soon they find things are not what they seems until Gib gets hit and no one has a clue to who did it yet
This book was not edited after the 15th chapter. So many mistakes. I love the series, but there are tons of changes to each character throughout. I struggled to finish this book.
I love this series! The Men of Baytown and their Loves! I have read each book and will more than likely continue to keep reading them over and over again!
I always like a rockstar book. This was ok but not great. It was instant lust /love and a quick short storyline. No resolution on the chick that decided to stalk Hunter.
