If you're a fan of Scottish time travel, handsome highlanders, strong heroines, romance, and adventure, you'll love Latharn's Destiny, the sixth and final book of the epic and sweeping Highlander Fate series.
Stella Knight writes time travel romance and historical romance novels. She enjoys transporting readers to different times and places with vivid, nuanced heroes and heroines.
A wonderful read with some unexpected twists. Time travel to a distant past in search of a killer, lands Evelyn O'Brolchan in more of a mess than she had anticipated. The death of her mother, pushes her to find the man who murdered her father. Born in Scotland, in the fourteenth century, her mother had taken her and returned to her own time after her husband's murder. It was the only way to protect the child. Now, it is the child's turn to exact revenge. She ends up as a maid in the castle of the Clan MacUisdean. Determined to find the Laird who murdered her father, Steaphan MacUisdean. She is too late - he is already dead. Now, Padraig and Neacal, sons of Steaphan, each want control of the clan - even though the rightful heir, Latharn, is still alive, though they do not know this. Latharn's parents, the rightful Laird and Lady, Seoras and Lady Beitris MacUisdean were also murdered by Steaphan. There are more twists in this story, betrayals, and of course the discovery of love between Evelyn and Latharn. It's a story of clan vs clan, of treachery and loyalty. Too much really to mention without giving out spoilers. Well worth the read, I was kept captive . Page after page I had to keep turning until I reached the end. This was an ARC book sent to me and my review is my own decision and my own words, given freely.
This is an OK Scottish time-travel romance, and an OK ending to The Highlander Fate series. It was entertaining, but it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Latharn and Evelyn
I liked both Latharn and Evelyn, but I wanted them to communicate better. Most of their issues were caused by a lack of communication, brought on partly by a fear of sharing their true selves. I liked that some of the supporting characters helped them get past that, and learn to talk to each other.
One thing that bothered me about this book is the historical mistakes. The men all wear kilts in 1390 Scotland, but they didn't actually start wearing kilts in Scotland until the 16th century. The characters also ride in carriages, which wasn't done in that time period, because the roads were too bad. Everyone rode horses, or traveled in small carts like farmers used -- carriages had not even been invented yet. I suspect the author may have included those two things because of popular movies (like Braveheart) -- but it isn't correct, just because Hollywood does it.
This one get 3.5 stars from me, rounded down to 3 stars.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Evelyn Angelica O'Brolchan born in 1346 when her father died her mother who was a time traveler returned home the newborn Evelyn. She finally told Evelyn the truth about her father and her birth. She took her to Scotland Village of Tairseach and took her back to Scotland in the 1300s. This was her third trip back in time; she had nothing to hold herself in the present because her mother had died. She traveled back for the sole purpose of killing the man that had murdered her father. She traveled back and lucky for her one of the kitchen maids had run off to get married and she was able to take her place. She planned to poison the Laird with Hemlock but she wasn't sure if she could. Then she heard that the sun of the Laird that had been murdered was still alive. She got someone to take her to meet him and met Laird Latharn MacUisdean and offered to spy for him. She was told no, that he had enough spies and they really didn't know her pointed out that all of his spies were men and they couldn't get into the feasts were nobles might speak but she could. It was finally agreed upon that she could spy on the new Laird. To find out what happens to everyone involved you have to read the book. It's a good book...
Latharn's Destiny is the final installment in a time travel romance series set during the time of the Highlanders. This story follows Evelyn, the daughter of a time traveler living in the present time who was born in the past during her mother's time traveling adventures. Evelyn heads back to the past to avenge her father's death. Upon arrival, she poses as a servant to get closer to the enemy. Latharn is the long lost son who returns to his family land to lay claim to his family's lands and titles which are wrongfully under the control of his uncle and cousins. Evelyn and Latharn's paths cross when Evelyn agrees to spy for Latharn as he plots to figure out how to take back what is rightfully his. They grow romantically close. Support for Latharn builds through the surrounding Scottish townships and clans. Latharn's marital situation is discussed and used as a bargaining chip. This doesn't sit well with Evelyn and leads her to debate her own destiny - stay in the past and fight for the man she loves or go back to the present where she never felt like she really fit in. Pace was good. I liked how the author tied all the other characters in the books together in the end. It was a good way to wrap up a series. I recommend for anyone with an interest in Scottish time travel romance.
A warm love story between Evelyn a time traveler returning to year 1391 Scotland after her Mothers death ,to avenge the death of her Father at the hands of Laird Stephan MacUisdan . And Latharn who has been secretly fostered away from the clan since an infant and is now out to reclaimed the Clan he is the rightful heir to which was taken away at the death of his Parents and siblings at the hands of his Uncle Steaphan .Evelyn and Latharn form a mutual bond to oust his cruel cousin Padraig who took over the clan at the death of his Farther. Evelyn serving as a spy while working as a servant at the castle and Latharns while keeping a low profile while he gathers support from other clans and crafters to form an army to oust Padraig. Correcting the wrong done his family and members of clan MacUisdan. Along the bumpy twisty way Latharns and Evelyn form a respectful and loving relationship. A lovely story to end the Highland Fate series, which I encourage all to read Stella Knight doesn’t disappoint her readers, I look forward to reading more of her stories
When Evelyn goes into the past to avenge her father's death, things don't exactly go as planned. First, the man responsible is already dead, of natural causes, and his son sits in his place. Second, his son is even more cruel than his father was and she's really not sure she's safe in the castle. And third, there's another man, who was thought to be dead, coming to claim his birthright. For some reason or another, she feels bound to this man and swears to help him. Latharn only recently found out he is actually the son of a Highland Clan Chief who was murdered by his brother. With the help of a few lords still loyal to his family, he begins planning to take back his birthright. One thing he doesn't plan on is a red headed spit fire who is determined to help him, regardless to the danger to herself. Is it coincidence that their paths have crossed and that they're drawn to each other, or could it be Destiny? - Wonderful book! I love these characters and really hope she continues this series! I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am leaving my honest review.
Latharn's Destiny Highlander Fate Book Six By Stella Knight She’d been born in the fourteenth century with the Gaelic name Eibhlin Aingealag O’Brolchan, raised in the present. Eibhlin has traveled back in time to kill Laird Steaphan MacUisdean and avenge her father's death. She gets more than what she bargained for. Latharn just found out he was born a Laird and was placed with his adopted parents to save him from his murderous Uncle Steaphan MacUisdean. Hiding in plain sight he starts to find followers that will spy in the castle. He can't believe Eibhlin is willing to put herself in danger but he can't pass up the chance of what you could find out. So he lets her and then thinking on it he's happy he's going to see her again. I enjoyed the series, I don't think I can pick any book that I liked the best. All I can say is I love a man in a kilt. And if you do too this is a series for you. Magic and fate had pulled them through time to when—and to whom—they belonged. Sorry to say 18 and over because of the explicit sexual content.
Two people from different centuries both intent on revenge come together in their mutual needs. Both Latharn and Evelyn are intent on avenging wrongs done to both of their families by the same clan. Will they reclaim Latharn's legacy and avenge Evelyn's father? Will their mutual need lead to love? Is Evelyn's destiny in the past or in the 21st century? The characters are well drawn and the story is a good one. This is maybe my favorite book of this series. I gave it 4.4 of 5.0 stars for storyline, plot and characterization. I received a complimentary ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
I tried so hard to make it through...but I just can't. The out-of-breath, overly dramatic narration and the gratuitous sex ruins this series. The stories are 4-star for me, but the narration drops it to 3 stars for the first 5 of the series. This one is not only the final book of the series, but the end of the torture I have felt trying to listen to it. Liisa Ivary's delivery is just so over-the-top that it's an eye-rolling, head-shaking exercise in tolerance. And Stella Knight's plugging in sex scenes where they actually disrupt the story flow, and are not well written, land this series at the bottom of the pile and one I'll never listen to again.
Wonderful final book in what has been an exciting series. Latharn returns to claim his previously unknown heritage, whilst Evelyn travels back in time to revenge her father’s death. These two well-developed characters are certainly destined for one another, but can they overcome the dangers and secrets which surround them? I have really enjoyed this series and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Book six in the Highlander Fate series is a well written story, I know I want to reread this series. Evelyn O'Brolchan is a time traveller who goes back to the 14th century from the 21st century for revenge. She meets Latharn MacUisdean who must get the land and titles back that where taken from him. I enjoyed reading their story. There is suspense, drama, danger, war, an evil chieftain, time travel, twists, turns, and romance. I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I really enjoyed reading this book while it is part of a series you don’t need to have read the other books. We first meet Latharn in on the other books as he working in the castle. I did enjoy following Latharn’s journey to become the Laird and seeing the trails he went through. Also the meeting of Evelyn who is there to avenge her father and unexpectedly falls for Latharn though she thinks she can’t be with him. I received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily left a review
This was another truly enjoyable read! It was full of suspense, action and an everlasting love story. I love books about time travel and Highlanders and this series doesn’t disappoint! I love how Stella reminds us of her other characters in the series and even brings some of them into this book. I will miss this series but look forward to seeing what comes next! Keep on writing Stella and thank you for the ARC copy!! 💜💜💜
I have been following this series and have read all the books. This was a wonderful story with lots of love, suspense, and a hunky highlander of course. They just keep getting better with each book. Stella Knight is a wonderful author....don't miss any of her books.

Even tho this is the last in this series , I’m sure Stella is already busy creating something just has exciting and enjoyable. Can’t wait❤️
I’ve not reviewed any singular book because I wanted to read all the series...and I’m not disappointed..brilliantly written and so into the Scottish history time...you can visualise all the characters, good and bad,war,weddings..Stella sets the scenery and the rest just falls into place... can’t wait to read what Stella writes..
All the books in this series were great. So much vivid history. The Author has done her homework. I love historical fiction! As I tell my grandkids, you can go anywhere or be anyone in a book. Don't miss this great series.
I love reading about different time periods. When you throw in magic, witches, and time travel it makes it all the better. The part I didn't like was Latham and To a lying to her father.
Well done! Exactly the escape I needed right now. Stella Knight has become one of my favorite authors in this genre. Will be looking forward to more of her books. Liisa Ivary's narration was very good.
I liked all 6 books in Ms. Knight's series but I especially like it when revenge is served up Highland style. Latharn's Destiny was such a story. Ms. Knight did a wonderful job with this one.
