An explosive, emotionally charged sci-fi adventure that delivers on every front
Vigilance (First Colony Book 7) by Ken Lozito is everything I’ve come to love about this series—high-stakes action, deeply human characters, and a story that refuses to slow down.
What really stands out in this installment are the two gripping action arcs that unfold in parallel.
First, Sean—the Trident—is at the center of a relentless, edge-of-your-seat combat storyline. His mission is brutal, strategic, and deeply personal. Watching him operate under pressure, balancing tactical brilliance with the emotional weight of leadership, adds real depth to the nonstop action. Every confrontation feels earned, and the consequences are never glossed over.
At the same time, the storyline following Conor, Diaz, and Dash brings a different—but equally compelling—kind of tension. Their desperate race to uncover the Neis cure is packed with urgency, discovery, and moments of real vulnerability. The dynamic between the three characters is fantastic—they each bring something unique to the table, and their growing trust in one another gives the arc a strong emotional core. The science and mystery surrounding the cure are handled in a way that feels both believable and thrilling.
What makes Vigilance shine is how these two narratives complement each other: one driven by raw combat and survival, the other by hope, intellect, and the fight to save lives. Lozito balances them expertly, building momentum until both threads converge in a satisfying and powerful way.
If you’ve been following the First Colony series, this is a must-read. If you’re new, it’s a strong reminder of why this universe is so compelling.
