Captain Briar Rose has traveled from one end of the Ohio and Erie Canal to the other, searching for answers. Some she found, while others remain frustratingly elusive, but she doesn’t have time to continue the search.
Ferromancers are gathering in her hometown, anxious to hear her response to Solon’s ultimatum: use Grayson to cure their ailing race, or see her hometown destroyed. They won’t be happy when she refuses to sacrifice Grayson, but curing them isn’t the only way to stop them.
Though her magic seems ferra, Briar’s ability hails from the Scourge, the executioners of the ferromancer world. Should she join their ranks and put that ability to use? Her uncle Liam thinks so—as do the dozens of Scourge he’s gathered. They want her to lead them into battle.
With no easy choices, Briar is left with one hope: Grayson. Legends claim that together, their unique talents can save his race, but so far, their experiments have ended in failure. With time running out, and a new threat complicating an already complicated situation, Briar must make her choice. Will she be the savior of the ferromancer race, or the harbinger of its destruction?
Becca Andre lives in southern Ohio with her husband, two children, and an elderly Jack Russell Terrier. A love of science and math (yes, she’s weird like that), led to a career as a chemist where she blows things up far more infrequently than you’d expect. Other interests include: chocolate, hard rock, and slaying things on the Xbox. She also finds writing about herself in third person a bit strange.

First, can we talk about the cover? In in love.
Now to the review. I give Casting Souls a solid 4.5 stars. Unfortunately it is the last book on the series but Becca has hinted that more is on the horizon!
The gang is headed to Portsmouth to meet Solon in order to try and save his son Tristan. Solon has made it very clear what he'll do if they don't show up. Briar is still conflicted with herself because even though she has discovered additional powers within, it hasn't solved her ultimate problem which is to figure out a way to stop Grayson from devolving.
Upon arrival at Portsmouth, things are looking super bleak with the town. A mysterious construct is going around killing people in addition. To the ferromancers are all gathering in the city to figure out a way to defeat Solon. Suffice to say, this is the final battleground between ferra, ferromancers and their constructs and humans.
I was pretty hooked to this book, not gonna lie. I couldn't put it down even when I had to and devoured it in three days. The storyline is fast paced but full of action without leaving any glaring loopholes. I especially enjoyed Perseus in this story. We learn a little more about his origins and just how badass he is. Even though the story is building to a climax at a rapid pace, Becca still surprised me at some parts and I physically felt heartache at other parts. I only took off half a star because I wished the romance scenes were more picky but that's my super romantic side talking. 😂
Casting Souls came out April 1st so make sure you pick it up and if you haven't read any of the series, make sure you to star at the beginning with Ferromancer! Highly recommend!

Ever since I picked up Becca Andre's The Final Formula book, I have been hooked on her stories. They are so well written, with characters that you can't forget because you love or hate them in equal measure. This series, and this book is no exception, is another example of her amazing talent. I read this book in one sitting because I had to know what happened to Briar, Grayson and the crew.
I was easily swept back up in the story since it had been a while (and there have been MANY books in between) since I had read Corroded. But like all of Andre's books, the characters and storyline are so unique and memorable that it never takes more than a few pages to be caught up again in what had already happened and be excited to see what will develop. Like in the previous books, there is a lot of excitement and tension and several twists that I didn't see coming. I won't give away the ending, but it definitely was not the outcome I had expected! While I know it was necessary to end it the way she did, a part of me was saddened that it had to end this way. And now that I've been truly cryptic and vague about that, I'll leave it be 😉
All of Briar's struggles to save Grayson are a wonderful example of how true love works. You don't give up on each other when times are tough or things aren't going the way you hoped. It takes time, hard work and unwaivering trust to create a happy ever after. And while I know this is a fantasy book, their commitment to each other is very real and admirable.
Since this is the last book in the series, there were many loose ends that needed tying up, all of which were done wonderfully. It was a perfect balance of closure with adventures still on the horizon for Briar and her crew. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, this entire series actually, and highly recommend it. Just be sure to have read the first 4 books so you know what is going on. This is not the kind of series that you can jump into midway.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book and am happy to offer my honest review! I have tried to avoid any spoilers.
What an excellent conclusion! This final installment in the Iron Souls series was an absolute ride. Obviously, it is my favorite of the entire series.
Briar came to so many satisfying revelations and led us down too many twists to count. I’m excited to say I did not see the ending coming at all, but everything clicked at that point.
The strongest part of this book, and perhaps the series in general, was the complexity and originality of the magical system in this world. The ending was very solid because of the amount of work Andre put into her world building, and I was very impressed with her ability to surprise me at every turn, yet make complete sense. If you’re a reader who enjoys a good magical element to their stories, I highly recommend not only this series but Andre’s other works as well. The Final Formula series has a similar feel to this one, with another endearing, bad ass female lead.
**Possible spoiler? (If you have not read any of this series—romance abound! But don’t read beyond this point)
The conclusion to our romantic threads was very well done, although perhaps a bit predictable. Then again, I would have been disappointed otherwise! I agree with other reviewers that there is so much more to do with these characters. I’m hoping for a spin off or some novellas coming our way! If I were to offer a criticism, including more detail would be the only one.
Well I, for one, am not happy with the end the Iron Souls series. This final book was the icing on the cake, but so so much more can be written about many of the characters and the story lines, that lay ahead for them, from this series.
A wonderful story with the main characters - Briar Rose, Grayson Drake Martel, Perseus, Kali, Solon, Liam, Tristan, Lucrezia - Lock - the Crew - just to name a few. Briar and Grayson are on a canal boat trip to Portsmouth to meet with Solon and try to save his son, Tristan. Scourges, Ferromancers and Ferra are following them or waiting in Portsmouth hoping to derail their trip or kill them.
There is lots of hatred and death threats shared back and fourth by the Ferromancers, Scourges and Ferra. Briar, sadly, is only trying to make things better for all parties, but she barely makes it out alive, after many violent attacks. All groups finally meet in a showdown that is heart stopping and nail biting fantastic.
The ending was sad in many many ways, but satisfying also.
Within the darkness of this entire story laughter, funny situations, tenderness, loyalty, protection and true love still abounds.
An amazing book and a wonderful, but I hope not, the end of the Iron Souls Series. Thank you Becca Andre!!
A highly satisfying conclusion to the Iron Souls series. The time has come for Grayson, the first ferromancer drake in hundreds of years, to save his brethren and risk losing his humanity for good. As the relationships deepen, its opens doors as well as risk. Briar Rose and Grayson Drake must work together in their own unique way to save themselves as well as the ferra and ferromancers alike, ending a milllenia of heartache and destruction. I highly recommend this to lovers of gas lamp fantasy.
I really enjoyed this series. This final book grabs you and holds you captive to you finish. Couldn't out it down. I'm an a fan of ms Andres work, loved the Final Formula series, these books don't disappoint
I really loved the start of this series but my interest has been waning a bit since book 4. I liked this book but the ending was not to my taste - seemed a bit too melancholy for me to be really satisfied.
