Retaliation

As far back as I can remember, I pushed away those ugly demons looping their venom around my brain.Trying to turn me into a man I never wanted to be.“Do what we say or die.”Words filled with poison, they slowly dripped in my veins, leaving me a mess of a man, and walking that thin line between right and wrong.I never wanted to be a killer; now it’s a craving I need to survive. The man I used to be never wanted to cause anyone an ounce of unbearable pain, because I know first-hand what it feels like. That choking in your throat, barely able to breathe heartbreak of those who died, left behind. The men I’m killing, they left me no choice but to walk a line chalked with retaliation. To leave the woman I love behind.I didn’t take a life like they claim to cause her pain. I sacrificed a lifetime with her to keep her alive. But, after fourteen years of her living that lie, I’m crossing another line. One I was warned to never step over. “Stay away from her, or she dies.”*Author Note- This book may spark triggers.

5 Stars!

Kathy Coopmans is back with the highly anticipated (well for me anyways) third book in her unforgettable Vindication series and oh my heart y'all! This book! This fucking book right here was everything I didn't know I needed in this series, ripping me apart then slowly, achingly piecing me back together... and so painfully beautifully written.

Retaliation was so brilliant in every single way... dark, dangerous, suspenseful, intense, passionate, smoldering, unstoppable, heartbreaking, soul crushing, yet worth every single moment... even those crying your eyes out ones. Nick and Blaire hooked me hard and they hooked me deep...right from the very beginning.

Brilliant. So different yet unputdownable and completely unforgettable in all the ways. This series is an absolute must read if you like those soul clenching, heart racing, feet pounding kind of romances! And don't forget to start at the beginning.

I highly recommend this book.

An incredibly dark second chance…

Whew! I need to take a deep breath before trying to describe how I feel about this book. Another book in the spinoff of the Diamond series, Nick and Blaire were dealt a horrible hand yet here they finally get a second chance…

Dark and disturbingly violent at times, nothing feels overdone or out of place. Their past, Nick’s past, set the stage for everything that befell both of them. When the time was right, they had their chance and every hurt, every grief-stricken moment was shared with me. My heart raced at times and at others it ached for what they had gone through, what they were going through. At the same time, hope was weaved through every conversation, every inner monologue. I could plainly see the love, the devotion that nothing could completely break. And they tried so hard to break them.

Be prepared for anything and everything in this beautifully dark love story…

Nick, Nick, Nick!

Honey, I don't pity you. I don't but a huge part of my heart broke for all you've been through. I knew your story would be bad. I assumed it would be painful. I had no idea that the darkness you lived in was worse than pitch black. I want to hug you and then hunt down your demons. I know that I would be a vigilante. I know that in your shoes I would not hesitate to get my Retaliation. I'm not as smart or have the patience you do. I would have gone of and probably gotten myself killed.

I want you to know that I ache on the inside for your pain, your loss, and everything that could have been. BUT! But I smile and glow with joy at all that will be...

So Nick, I just wanted to say thank you for finally having the courage and strength to share your story. It's my greatest hope that guilt will one day no longer wear you down.

And to the readers, well I just hope you are ready for the intense and heart achingly beautiful journey. One body bag at a time!

Nailed it. I knew Nick's story was going to be tough but wow.
I got more than I expected and loved every freaking page of it.
His past defines him but he's ready to take back what was stolen from him fourteen years ago. He knows he won't ever be the man his wife should have but that won't stop him from getting her back. She deserves more than the man he was groomed to be but he can't live without her anymore.
Blaire thankfully has a good head on her shoulders, she has the ability to forgive and to understand that sometimes the darkest part of someones soul can't be reformed but accepted.
Loved it so much, I'll be reading these books again and again.

Nikolai “Nick” Popov shows what someone has to live with and live by in order to survive. Blaire Warren has a kind heart – she tries to help those that need it the most. Our author is very good at keeping everything close to her chest. She takes her time about letting the characters reveal things that helps you understand why she’s good at keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Some scenes are hard to read but it’s understandable as Nick let’s us know about his life. That life affected others and we get to see that as well. What’s good about this series is that secondary characters in this story have books of their own. In no way do you need to read the first two books in the Vindicator series in order to understand what’s going on here - that’s a good thing since I’m two books behind.

Some scenes were hard to read but it’s understandable as Nick let’s us into his world. We see the effect it had on others as the story unfolds. Being so emotional it’s not hard to picture what our main characters had to endure – it’s something that you could picture as being based on reality. In order to get a sense of what Nick had to become he’s very graphic in telling us what he has to do to make his world a better place. – a little warning for the squeamish. There’s also a sadness that follows him throughout.

You could consider this a second chance romance but it’s the action and suspense that takes center stage here. Seeing Blair and Nick find their way back to each other was nice but knowing that good will overtake evil was what had me turning the page all the way to an ending that had mixed emotions.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Wonderful addictive second-chance love story! The plot and the pace of this book kept me engaged, flipping the pages long into the night. The prose in this story is so beautiful, and the story line is dark and gritty in the most compelling way. Kathy Coopmans blended the action, suspense and steam perfectly and she delivered an unputdownable read that I devoured from start to finish. Even though I loved each of the stories in the series, Retaliation is definitely my favorite. ❤️

Holy smokes!!! I fell hard for Chaz and Cade in Vengeance and Warrant . I knew I’d fall for Nick but I couldn’t believe how hard I’d fall for him.

Nick has been missing a part of himself. It’s been missing for the last fourteen years. Nick Williams was born Nick Popov. His father Dimitri is an evil and vicious man. His lives and breathes kidnapping, raping, beating and selling woman. He planned on his son taking over the business. But, Nick met Blaire.

For the first time Nick knew what love was. He’d do anything to protect Blaire. When they were eighteen they got married. That night his life fell apart. In order to save Blaire’s life he had to leave. The only person who knew the truth of who Nick was is Blaire’s brother Caleb. He promised to keep her safe until Nick was able to comeback for her. It’s been fourteen years and the danger is at its highest and Nick’s tired of not having his wife. He’s back for her no matter the cost.

Blaire fell in love with Nick and married him and was looking forward to their future. Except the night they got married Nick disappeared and her younger sister was killed. It was just her and her brother Caleb. Blaire ended up doing research on who Nick’s dad was and learned things that made her sick. She’s mad she didn’t know everything about Nick. The things that he lived with.

Blaire’s been missing a huge part of herself. She went on to become a ruthless divorce attorney. She’ll fight for women that need it. It’s why when Roan Diamond and his wife show up with an amazing job offer, she’s conflicted. She knows about Roan and his empire rumors. But, she knows the ladies need her help.

Blaire couldn’t believe her eyes when her husband and brother are in her office. She’d been waiting for the day she’d see him again. But, knowing her brother knew everything and hadn’t told her anything she feels more than betrayed. Nick let’s her know he’s back for her, he’ll never give her a divorce and things won’t be easy but they’ll do it together.

The things Nick and Blaire have to go thru just to see the HEA sign is mind blowing!! Nick has so much going on in his head that he’s hardly able to keep things straight. But, he knows if he’s not focused it could cost the people he loves the most. Nick won’t let anybody else be hurt or killed by his father. As long as he’s got Blaire by his side he just might make it out alive.

This is the third book in the series. I’d read it in order bc you’ll def miss something’s. ESP Nick’s sister Jillian story bc you’ll understand certain things and you’ll feel what they’re going thru. And, you’ll get deeper into their dad. If you have triggers be careful going into this and the previous books.

I absolutely loved this story!!! Whenever I get more Roan I’m a happier girl lol. Nick was everything I’d expected and then add double to it. Blaire is the perfect match for him. Kathy wrote another amazing story. Now, I need Caleb’s story!!!

If you’ve read Vengeance and Warrant you’ve been introduced to Nick and I have been waiting for his story since reading those two books. I knew his would be heartbreaking and it was, but it is also my favorite book out of the series. Though, this book may not be for everyone. It was a tough to read at times but don’t let that deter you.

Nick is the son of a monster. The horrible, gut wrenching things he has seen and experienced is something that will break your heart. Despite all of that horror Nick has become a better man. The one bright spot in his life is Blaire. The girl he would do absolutely anything for and do anything he could to keep her safe from his family no matter how much it would break their hearts.

I mentioned this already, but Nick’s story was my favorite of the series. My heart broke for him, but as the story went on it was slowly mended back together. He had experienced so much at such a young age. So much pain, loss and love. His relationship with Blaire was sweet, especially while they were children and it grew deeper throughout their teen years. After 14 years there was no loss to their connection, to their chemistry. If anything it had grown and gotten stronger despite the distance.

I love that we got some more of Cade, Ivy, Chaz and Jillian throughout this story. This can be read as a standalone, but I would highly recommend to read the entire series to completely understand the story.

Holy smokes. Honestly, I am at a loss for words when it comes to this book. The pain that you feel radiate off the pages of this story blew me away. Everything that Nick had to endure, gutted me so much. The one thing I absolutely adore about Kathy Coopmans books, is her attention to deal and creating such a backstory that you cannot help but fall in love with her words. Retaliation did just that and more. With everything that Nick went through, his love for Blaire never waned. It grew and with that how he protected her even though he couldn’t be there. Their chemistry is magnetic and their pull is just wow. Even with everything that they went through to get to where they are, true love really endures.
This story really blew my mind with the twisted story of Nick’s father and how it all eventually played out, to discovering reasons why things happened the way they did and how these two overcame the adversity that was thrown at them. Blaire is such a fighter and is so spunky, you cannot help but want to be her best friend.
While Cade will always be my favorite from this series, Nick has a special place in my heart because you want to just love him and make him whole again. Coopmans delivers in a brilliant and unique story that will keep you on your toes, your jaw on the floor and asking yourself WTF just happened.

Retaliation is book 3 in the Vindicator series and what a dark, raw and gritty story it is!!! It is not for the faint of heart. This is Nick and Blaire's story. Their's is a 2nd chance at love after the heartbreaking way they were separated years before. Their love was pure and beautiful before it was tainted and ripped apart by powerful people who wanted them to be apart which the story tells. This is a story that tells of revenge, grief, heartbreak; pain, despair, anger, depression, death, denial, need, love, forgiveness, healing, chemistry and 2nd chance at HEA. This book is dark- not for the faint of heart but the feels are deep and OMG- My heart felt for Nick. The things that he went through were horrific and would send one over the edge yet his bright spot is Blaire. Blaire never loved another man but Nick- never felt such anger or rage towards another and that was Nick. The actions of that night by those people are what bring Nick and Blaire back together. Rollercoaster of emotions are rampant in this book so keep your tissues handy. It was good seeing previous characters and I liked that the pace was fluid, fast and never slow. I enjoyed the plot, characters and the way how everything happened. This is one book, series that you don't want to miss out on!!!

Retaliation by Kathy Coopmans is a dark read and certainly not ! for the faint of heart. It's Nick and Blaire's gut wrenching story and deals with sensitive subjects that may cause triggers.
Nick Williams - aka Nikolai Popov is a trained assassin, the son of a russian bratva boss, and he learns monsters are real. He was forced to endure unspeakable cruelty . He had to leave his old life and loves behind. Now he's back and on the warpath. He's driven by revenge and became a hardened man himself.
Blaire, his teenage love was the victim in all this. She was left by him, had to build a whole new life and she did good for herself. Now, 14 years later she's a successful lawyer. Only when she discovers Nick is back she's furious and wants nothing to do with him.
Like I already said, Retaliation is a dark read and not for the faint of heart. I love this kind of stories, but at some point I had to put the book down and take a breather.
Retaliation is a great story with excellent writing. I give 4,5 stars.

Title: Retaliation
Author: Kathy Coopmans
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ARC received in return for an honest review.

This book was raw, gritty and dark whilst at the same time pure and passion filled, a story of love so heartbreaking it will have you searching for the nearest box of tissues.

During his childhood Nick had to endure some despicable things which still impact him as an adult, he had to leave everything and everyone he’d ever loved behind including Blaire the girl whose heart he broke. Now Nick’s back a hardened man driven by a need for revenge, he’s a man on the warpath and one person who’s certainly not happy to see him is Blaire she wants nothing to do with the man who 14yrs earlier had broke her heart.

One amazing man and one strong woman who together make an intense couple with explosive chemistry, twists and turns make this one addictive page turner of a story, belt up cause you’re in for a rollercoaster of a ride.

I knew Nick's story was going to rough and I thought I was prepared. I wasn't, it broke my heart I couldn't imagine every thing he endured growing up, the unspeakable things that were done to him and how it still affects him as an adult. Then you add the pain Blaire felt for years and I was a mess, I was as broken as they were.
Blaire Good lord her pain I felt every word every emotion!!
Nick Holy crap I just wanted to wrap him in my arms.
Such a heartbreaking story, you feel for them all it's such a messed up situation but you know there is so much love under the pain.
The emotions Kathy Coopmans put in this book and pulled out of me has blown me away. She poured her heart and soul out on ever page. I absolutely love this darker side of her writing.
I have read a lot, just about all of her books and this series is hands down my favorite. Honestly her best writing in my opinion. I can't express how much I love these books.

Kathy your writing amazes me each and every time I read your newest release.

This book isn’t for the faint of heart that’s for sure and if you can’t handle some rough and disturbing things this isn’t the book for you. This is a guy wrenching secound chance romace.

From a man having to give up the love of his life because of crappy father that threatens her and the only way he won’t touch her is for Nick to leave never go around Blaire.

Now with the threat of Dimitri going after Blaire all bets are off and Nick is ready to have his wife back. Nothing will stop him from getting to his wife.

Every couple has issues but Nick and Blaires takes the cake. Can they work their issues out before Dimitri comes a knocking or does he get her?

One click and find out. I promise you won’t be sorry..

The author has taken this series to a new level with this book. Nick's story is dark and brutal intense and emotionally gut wrenching.

Nick and Bailey's story is definitely not for the faint hearted. Both are strong and resilient individuals in different ways. Nick overcoming and dealing with his past and Bailey with the loss of the love of her life. Loved Nick getting his revenge even if his methods were extreme. I love the way Kathy writes, it's full on with no apologies that easily marries the love story with the suspense and danger. As always the writing is impeccable and a story that you won't be able to put down.

Wow! Just holy wow! This book is the epitome of violence. It was an extremely emotional and hard read for me. I had to take mental breaks throughout it was that intense. It was so good though. The emotional toil it took on the characters, the grief, the heat, the abuse all rolled into one amazing dark book. It was so good.

Retaliation is a gut wrenching - emotional and dark book.
Nick and Blaire's story is about revenge and second chance romance. What I love about this book is that it's full of emotions and I was easily captured into the story. Also, the other characters in the previous series of Kathy's mafia books are here. 😍

Overall, this book is a good read! Loved it!

"Today is retaliation day, and I'm going to make him pay."
As Nick (Nikolai) is raised by a man with evil and twisted sickness in place of a heart, Nick is from day one set apart, never like his father, even though his father tries to brainwash him into believing, into becoming evil like he is. And then he meets a beautiful young girl who brings light and love into his life. Unfortunately, she's ripped away from him and Nick spends the rest of his growing up years finding his way back to her.

Nick's story, both before her, and after her, is heartbreaking and brutal and twisted and raw. I cannot fathom how he's not a complete devil like his father, but he's not. He's the opposite, and I absolutely loved his story, how he found his way back to Blaire. A forewarning that Retaliation is pretty dark, and has graphic scenes. But if you can handle this kind of stuff, I highly, highly recommend you pick this one up. It's beautiful in its own gritty, perfect way!

He was a chaotic storm and she was the eye, the center that offered him some peace, the quiet and calm from what raged on the outside. Vengeance was warranted and retaliation is sought by Nick after so much suffering. This book is the pinnacle of the series, it was the story that dragged my heart into the depths of guilt, misery and heartache that Nick was drowning under with only one goal, to finally take back what was his and bring an end to what had kept them apart. Retaliation is a story that will hold your heart and soul in its hand, at times it will break you, have you seeing only the dark but hold on to the hope, as the light that shines from forever will engulf you. This is a love story like no other and one that will burrow its way deep under your skin.

🖤 For the ultimate love and loyalty of a dark and broken heart 🖤

I’ve long been looking forward to Nick’s book. Of the three, I’d say he was the most dangerous, and after reading the blurb, I was gutted for him; 14 years is a long time without the love of your like. Worse was when I read about his early life with his father and the animals in men’s clothing that he commanded, and I wonder how Nick not only survived, but was even capable of love and loyalty at all. He did survive in the end, but in the years since his life without Blair, it has been all about Retaliation. Retaliation for every crime perpetuated upon him, his wife’s family, and for every woman and family that his father has destroyed.

Nick’s story is my favourite of these beautifully dangerous men. It is also the most intricate and twisted of the three, bringing all players of the underlying plot together for the final showdown. While each has been a stand-a-lone within this series, you really need to read all three to understand just how twisted the plot truly is.

Furthermore, it’s the most brutal, where the darkness of Dimitri’s shadow is described in it’s complete hellishness. This book will stay with me for quite some time, so, I’ll tell you now, if it’s not your thing, don’t be reading it, seriously.

Blair is a strong woman who is barely holding herself together when Nick comes back into her life, and she has to question just how far she can go in accepting, and loving the man he has become. She’s lived only a half-life where she and her brother, Caleb are succeeding in their chosen careers while holding the personal demons of loss at bay.

Just wow, I’m finding it hard to explain just how much feeling is written into every word in this book. The story is strong, deep, and emotive. It’s brutal and shock inducing. And, it is one hell of a strong finish for our three damaged glorious alpha men. But at the heart of it all is the love between Nick and Blair, and it is the sheer talent of Kathy Coopmans that she can pull this romance out of the darkness of this book. I also absolutely loved the large part that Cade and Chaz, along with their partners, played, and we saw a lot more of Blair’s brother, Caleb.

Actually, there is one more story I’d hoped to be reading, because damn, this man has been there from the start. He introduced our heroes to The Diamond Empire giving them the connections they needed to vindicate the crimes perpetuated on them and their families, so many families. Ms Coopmans, I’m hoping that Caleb is whispering his story in your head, because Lady, I’m desperate to read it.
An absolute 5 star rating for this brave and gut-wrenching story.

Oh boy... The book I've been wanting to read for so long is finally complete and waiting for me on my kindle...
How can I keep reading the other books I have to finished when this masterpiece is waiting for me? I can't read them fast enough because I know that once I start to read this book I'll not be able to stop...
Kathy Coopmans has been a constant in my reading life and let me tell you that I hadn't read enough books from her. I'm always eager to read more and more...
Her writing is hot, wild, raw and intense. Just get ready to be drowned by the flow of feelings...
Retaliation is her latest release and it's the third book from the Vindicator series.
But before I tell you more about this new book I need to tell you something. Despite the fact that all books are standalones I tottaly advise you to read Vengeance and Warrant first. These two books will get you a better insight for this new book.
Just go for it.
This new book explores the lifes of Nick and Blair.
Nick didn't have a normal childhood. Being the heir to the Bratva mob they expected him to fulfill a few demands. He suffered a lot and that made him the man he is today. He's a killer and left everything behind.
Blair thought that she had it all. The love of her life right beside her but then he disappears... Now, 14 yeas later she's a successful lawyer that was given the option for a job... But what will she do? Accepted or deny? Or will her past get in the way?
Will Retaliation solve everything? Will it be enough?
Do you know what perfection is? I'll tell you what it is... It's this book right here.
When I ended it my heart was so full I thought it would burst...
This book nailed it and made this series even better.
Superb plot, very well written, super engaging and intense.
All chapters were surrounded by a cloud of darkness and with so much more between each phrase that I can't spoil.
It was nearly impossible to stop reading because the way each chapter ended made me want to keep reading and reading.
This book presented us with madness, crime, punishment, drama, betrayal but also with so much love, loyalty, friendship and some pretty hot scenes... Oh boy...
I'm not saying anything more because I refuse to spoil so I advise you to grab book 1 and then go from there.
Kathy... Oh Kathy... What can I say?
You are a genius behind a pen. The way your mind works has the ability to hypnotise me...but I wouldn't change a thing.
Please tell me that Caden will have his own book? Please...
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
