READ MY REVIEW ON THE BLOG

Last year when I finished THE LAST KING I couldn't wait to get my hands on Frank's book. He was an enigmatic man who, when in the same room with Journey King, did nothing but argue with her. They had quite the dynamic so I was giddy to see how they would work out.

While I got to know Journey I realized how broken she really is. There are two people in this world who are supposed to protect you and love you unconditionally. While her mother wasn't the warmest person and a monster in her own right, she did protect Journey. Her father was the kind of man nightmares were made of - cruel and abusive with his kids, punishing them in horrific ways and it left marks on his children's souls. Now Elliott is back and he is the same monster he was when he was chased out of the city by Journey's mom.
Victim yet again. I had a chance to fight, and all I did was collapse in a ball and wait for him to hurt me. Pathetic. Worthless. Coward.

It was amazing and beautiful to watch Journey grow stronger under Frank's watchful and protective eyes. He gave her strength and guided her to see what a force she was. With that weight of her father threatening her pressing down on her she was completely stressed out which led to a lot of bristling and straining against Frank's protectiveness and good intentions but the more comfortable she grew in her relationship him, the funnier and more natural, the more fearless and courageous she became. I wouldn't call her sweet but I admired the shit out of her and I loved her fire, sass, cleverness and attitude.
“Dang, Frank, I’m going to have to be careful. At this point, I actually like you, and you fuck like a dream. You aren’t a secret duke or something, are you? Because the only way you could be more perfect was if there was a title involved."

Frank lost both his parents. His dad to criminal injustice in prison and his mom to cancer which she denied to be treated for. And Frank had to watch helplessly, incapable of saving either of them. He swore then that he'd always take care of the people he loved.
“You don’t have to protect me, Duchess.”
She didn’t blink. “If I don’t, who will?”
Frank didn’t have an answer for that. He didn’t know if there was an answer for that. People didn’t protect him. He protected his people.

Like Journey Frank fights her when Journey's own protectiveness shows but he also learns that it's not a sign of weakness to let her take care of him. He has to tone down his instincts but he learns to give Journey free reign to become the strong woman that he knows is inside her. Frank was hella sexy and charismatic. I loved his protectiveness but also that he was able to give in. Frank earned Journey's trust, every day a little bit more. He knew she was broken but he saw the beauty in that because it made her the strong woman he was falling hard for.
The mix of bristling hurt and sweetness never failed to surprise him, though she didn’t seem to realize that there was a molten strength beneath it all.

The suspense aspect was well executed and had me holding my breath on and off. Elliott King was creepy, as in CREEPY and personally, I think he got away too easy. There is a mini-cliffy that concerns the King siblings baby sister and I can't wait to see how that pans out. I have a theory and I'm looking forward to seeing if I'm correct.

The Fearless King was a super enjoyable installment in this series. It had a lot of steam and sexual tension, complex characters who had an intense connection that made sense despite their complicated relationship. I hope Katee Robert won't leave us waiting too long for the next book.

The Fearless King is Katee Robert's newest addition to The Kings series and follows Journey King and Frank Evans. I actually haven't read the previous book yet but I didn't have any issues reading this one first. If you want more of a backstory then I definitely recommend reading the series in order, though.

This book was an exhilarating read and it had me captivated from the very beginning. Journey was a complex character and I loved being able to figure her out through these words. When her father came back into town, the one man she was scared of, she had a lot that could have been lost. But she kept her head high and didn't back down from a fight, which I loved about her. She brought a lot of the thrill to this story and was the one the suspense manly surrounded but I loved how she handled everything, especially when she was strong enough to lean on Frank instead of trying to keep everything to herself.

Frank and Journey had a connection full of tension and a push-pull type of relationship. Both of them were strong characters and it spoke to how well they fit together as they trusted one another to give up the control they held on to so tightly. Seeing that connection was the best part of this story, even above the amazing suspense that Ms. Robert portrayed so well. Definitely a recommended read.

I have been a long time fan of Katee Robert. She has a broad range of ability and it has grown over the years. With this new series, she continues to engage her readers and present themes and stories which will capture you from the start. This is a series and we met these characters in the first book, The Last King. However, you can read this entry without experiencing it...though after reading The Fearless King, you may find yourself running to do so.

This is a tale of many complexities.
You have a woman who is forced to fight for a company she devoted herself to...Her mother had started it then due to circumstances, had to leave it. Now secrets which her daughter and son had no knowledge of coming to the surface, bringing back the abusive evil father who left years ago. Unfortunately, they had experienced his abuse and mental hostility first hand before he was pushed out. When he thrusts himself into the mix, with legit papers showing he has merit on his claims, these siblings have to figure out how to overcome this obstacle.

Journey King had worked and acquired all the tools to be a success. Her mother trained her and pushed her hard. Journey was confident and had been comfortable in her own skin. She would attempt almost anything if it would win her a contract. Frank Evans was a goal ...or should be thought of the obstacle to an acquisition her company wanted. He was a force, a man who would turn heads and then also let others know to beware. Journey knew of him, was attracted but also aware he was not her ally.

But Frank was the man who knew things... he was the holder of all the secrets in town and beyond...in other words, he knew where all the "Bodies were buried". He made his knowledge only available to a special few. He watched, listened, and compensated others who listened and told to him, too.

As an African American man in America, Frank also was aware of the ugly allowed in the world. He experienced it personally and accrued the power he had now because of it. His power was respected yet he was well aware of those still lost to the Ole Times who viewed him threw past eyes, happily.

The need for Journey to turn to Frank to fight for her company and emotional life causes these people to become aware of the attraction which will not be denied. They are explosive and raw, real, and complicated. There are obstacles that will need to be destroyed for them to achieve their happiness.

Katee Robert takes a complicated story and gives it life. She tells it head-on and doesn't skirt the ugly life throws at these two. She takes the reader on a full complete ride and does not disappoint.

3-3.5 stars. I'm kind of disappointed.

Oh how I wanted to love this book in the way that I loved book one. But alas I thinl it wasn't meant to be. It started off strong and it had excellent vibes going that is until the repetitive inner monologue got in the way of the plot.

The heroine;

"Bla, bla, I'm so broken, why would you want me? You can't fix me, bla, bla, bla. I'm weak what would he want with me, yaddy yaddy ya."

You get my drift.

The Hero;

"Bla, bla, bla. I don't fix broken things, I shouldn't take in strays, yaddy yaddy ya. I can't let emotions get in the way, bla bla bla."

If one of them had push and pull then ok but both just nope.

II recommend reading book one, or re-reading it before reading this book as it is a continuing plot. Knowing what is going on or refreshing ones memory helps.

In all in all although it wasn't quite the hit I wanted it to be I will read the others in the series as I am interested to see where the plot goes.

Secrets, deception, intrigue, passion and love – THE FEARLESS KING has it all!

THE FEARLESS KING is a must read if you enjoy a romance with multi-faceted characters, who are constantly revealing layers of themselves throughout their story, if you enjoy seeing an alpha male fall for a slightly damaged yet strong female and if you love stories with strong secondary characters.
THE FEARLESS KING is marketed as a standalone, but I feel it would be enjoyed more if you read book 1, THE LAST KING first.

In The Fearless King we get Frank and Journey's story. We met both of them in book one as side characters. There is some major family drama going on that connects both couples and many of the side characters.

After Beckett forced Journey's mom to leave the state in book one, that left her and her siblings open for their father, Elliott to come back and try to take their company from them. It isn't as simple as a hostile takeover, Elliott is a monster and abused all four of his children when they were young.

It's taken years for Journey to grow strong and feel like less of a victim, but all it takes is for her father to come back into her lives to take her right back to the abuse she suffered as a child. The only person she feels she can turn to is the last person she ever thought she would need.

Frank has become a man of power after that no one wants to mess with. He has his own past that have molded him into this new, harder man that he has become. Journey is dangerous to him since he can't seem to stifle his fascination with her. When she comes to him for help, there is no way he can say no but not without adding a few strings to the deal.

Both books 1 and 2 have that opposites attract appeal to them. Journey and Frank can't be more opposite in personality. Their chemistry was pretty off the charts. I'm a big fan of a strong Alpha character who protects and Frank is the very definition of these traits.

A lot of damage was done to the King family by the time all was said and done. There is so much the author can go in the next book in the series and I think I know who the next foe will be. I can't wait to find out if I'm right.

At this point, it's safe to say that Katee Robert is one of my go-to romance authors. I can always expect to deliver swoony and steamy reads with a good dose of complicated family dynamics. The Fearless King was another one of her books that I just about inhaled. It was just so good!

We met both Journey and Frank in the first The Kings book, The Last King. I was intrigued by their dynamic from the very beginning and was pretty much dying to see how their relationship would unfold. It was so much better than I expected. Both Journey and Frank were amazing characters. I loved how Journey was this perfect blend of strong and vulnerable. Yes, she had a tough exterior, but she also had the vulnerable moments that made her all the more real. In the previous book we got to see her cool and confident persona and here we learn more about how she became the woman she was. Her life begins to unravel when an unpleasant character from her past, her horrid father, shows up again and tries to torment her. Through it all, Journey tried to fight her fears for the sake of her loved ones, and if that's not admirable, I don't know what is! I liked Journey so much that I was rooting for her and her happiness. Frank was as much of a layered character as Journey. He was so attractive with his self-assured and inscrutable personality. I was a total goner when he began to show his softer side to Journey. All I'm going to say about Frank is that he is very very sexy. ;)

The dynamic between Journey and Frank was blistering hot. These two had such incredible chemistry, which wasn't a surprise to me because Katee Robert excels at this. Their relationship started off as a fake-relationship so that Frank can help Journey with her horrid dad situation, but as we all know with romance books, entering a fake relationship always means that the couple can't resist each other. Can I also take a minute to talk about how good the sexy times were? PHEW! My face definitely got warm a few times! ;) The plot was interesting and intense too in The Fearless King. Journey's father wreaks havoc in everyone's lives, including her siblings, and did I hate that guy or what? He was definitely a scumbag who elicited strong feelings of rage from me! We get to meet the rest of the King siblings in this book too and OMG, I want ALL of them to have their books. They are all just so intense and I want these kids to find their HEAs!

As always, Katee Robert delivered a smoking hot, passionate and exciting romance read with The Fearless King. I'll be eagerly awaiting her next read! In the meantime, you all should definitely read her books! :)

***5 Stars***

After reading The Last King, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series and when I found out Frank was going to be our lead man, I was ALL over it ~ even before reading the blurb ~ and boy was it worth the wait! Intense, smexy and all kinds of craycray. This one definitely upp’d the ante in more than one way and I loved every second of it!

If you look in the dictionary under the world ‘Complex’ Journey’s picture would more than likely be there. She’s gone through hell, and though she still bears the scars, she’s found a way to not fall apart. She’s strong and determined and I love the way her mind works. Frank is all kinds of alpha AF delicious. Strong, dominant, compassionate and charming in his own special way. His life hasn’t been kind, but it’s turned him into a strong man who will do anything to protect his own.

Their journey to their HEA was an interesting one from the start. The smexy between them was nuclear and the battle of wills that happened every time they were around each other simply up’d the tension between them. But it was when they bared their souls and let each other in, well that was when I knew they were perfect for each other. Nothing between them was easy, but I loved how they ended up giving the other everything they never knew they needed.

The crazy in this dysfunctional family definitely got kicked up a few notches in this one. I knew it was going to be intense, but there were certain scenes that made my own skin crawl. The twists and turns were all thought out and executed and I’m looking forward to where the story goes from here. As for the secondary cast of characters, I loved catching up with Beck and Samara, and I’m definitely looking forward to getting to know the rest of the King siblings, as well as some of the Evans Inc men, better, but it’s Esther that I’m fascinated by and need to know more about!

The Fearless King is book two in The Kings series by Katee Robert. This novel is a contemporary romance with a suspense twist.

Journey King is shareholder and COO of her family’s business, Kingdom Corp. She’s been doing everything she can to avoid Frank Evans and any appearance of impropriety. Surprisingly, Journey finds herself in need of Frank’s assistance when her estranged father makes an unexpected attempt to take over the company she and her siblings have worked hard to make profitable.

Frank Evans is a club owner and real estate mogul. He has made it his business to avoid the King family, with the exception of his best friend and Journey’s cousin, Beckett. Frank finds himself inexplicably drawn to Journey’s unusually vulnerable demeanor and agrees to help her retain her business.

The two aren’t enemies but they certainly aren’t friends. When circumstances force them into close contact with each other, sparks ignite and threaten to consume them both.

Robert has done a fair job of making the novel a standalone, but there are instances when additional background details would have made the storyline clearer. Despite the lack of background, the characters are fully developed and interesting. I liked the cunning manner the author used to introduce the touchy subject of the interracial relationship between Frank and Journey. The ending was perfect for the continuation of the series.

The Fearless King is an entertaining read and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy this book. The explicit sex scenes may be a turnoff for some readers.

My thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

Spoilers ahead

We met Journey and Frank in book 1,they had a contentious relationship with lots of sparks flying. With Frank as the best friend of Beckett and Journey as one of his estranged cousins nothing happened between them, but as this continues from book 1 with the results of the situation with Beckett Journey finds herself turning to none other than ruthless real estate mogul Frank for help.

When Journey's abusive father returns claiming majority ownership in their company she turns to Frank for help, they agree to a pretend relationship so Frank is able to get close enough to find out what her father is up to. With her father's visit bringing up horrible memories of her childhood Journey flounders emotionally and Frank seems like her only safe port in the storm.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as book 1 because of the back and forth with the couple. While I did feel they were attracted to each other because Journey was so affected by her father's return she threw herself at Frank a few times just to be able to forget what she'd been through at the hands of her father. She was also very prickly and abrasive at times. Frank did his share of pushing away because he didn't want to take advantage of her. Eventually they got together but again the ily just didn't seem believable.

I liked Frank and Journey as individuals but as a couple they just felt awkward, nevertheless I enjoyed this one for the most part.

Another interracial romance(yay) interesting plot and likeable mcs. No unnecessary drama or angst from OW or OM. Memories of childhood physical abuse from their father to the King siblings.

I'll definitely read the other siblings books hopefully soon.

I wasn’t entirely sure going into this book what to expect. While I love this author something fierce, this isn’t a genre that Ive found her writing in before. So I wasn’t sure where I was gonna fall. But this was solid. Was it my absolute favorite of this author? No. But it accomplished everything is set out to accomplish. The sexy times definitely served, as this author always does. And there was an intensity in the background storyline that I really liked. Now it doesn’t look like the series is going to be finished anytime soon if ever, and that is disappointing. Because there is definitely some loose ends that should’ve been wrapped up. However, this couple served what it needed to serve. I wish they had more time to develop their bond, but given the page count, and how much had to happen here I understand the way that it was handled. Still I wish that we had gotten more time with them just being and existing together.

*I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

I have been dying (like DYING) to read this book ever since Katee Robert announced its release! Frank and Journey were two of my favorite secondary characters in The Last King so I was ecstatic to see that they would be our couple for the next installment in this series. There was definitely a little somethin' somethin' going on between these two in the previous book so of course my nosy ass needed the see whether or not those sparks were going to fly.

On the outside...Journey King seems like she has it all put together. On the inside...well that's a whole different story. But the walls she's so desperately tried to keep up are about to come crumbling down when her father comes back into town. A hostile takeover ensues and Journey turns to the one man who can help her and her siblings save their company—Frank Evans. But it comes at a price and if Journey wants to keep her father from taking over then she's going to have to play by Frank's rules, even if that means risking her own heart.

Y'ALL. I AM OBSESSED! Katee Robert totally delivered when it came to the second installment in The Kings series and even has me suffering with a small case of a book hangover! The Fearless King picks up right where The Last King left off so it is necessary to read the previous book before diving into this one. Robert wastes no time jumping right into the messy plot as the villain, Elliott Bancroft, makes his presence known and tells Journey and her siblings his intentions. My blood was legit boiling for a good majority of this book because Elliott is just a vile human-being who finds joy in putting the fear of god into his children and I wanted to fight him. He's a great villain, I'll give him that but it still doesn't make me hate him any less. I definitely felt like Robert turned things up a notch with this book because the suspense had me at the edge of my seat! There were so many moments where I was holding my breath and pulling at my roots because I thought one of the King siblings were going to die and I couldn't handle it. While there were a lot of tense moments throughout this story, there were also quite a bit of angsty and sexy moments to balance things out. The chemistry between Frank and Journey is HOT, HOT, HOT and I couldn't get enough of the scenes where these two would sneak off to be together. I lived for their banter and I loved how in sync they were with one another. They were one badass power couple and a force to be reckoned with! As for Frank and Journey, I loved them even more after finishing this book. It's funny because these two think they're so different, but they really aren't. They both know what it's like to feel hurt and abandoned by a parent. They both put up walls to hide how vulnerable they truly are. They both fiercely protect the ones they love, even if it means putting their own self in danger. It's their similarities that brought them together and it's why I kept rooting for them to come out on top in the end. The Fearless King was an unputdownable read and I seriously just wanna flip back to the first page and read this story all over again! If you love your romances with a dash of suspense and heart palpitations, then you need to pick up The Kings series ASAP. I promise you won't regret it!

The Fearless King is the second book in the “Kings” series and this is the newest series by Katee Robert and I am in love. There is something so unique about how this author writes her stories and she delivers some wonderful suspenseful elements that are mind-boggling and just immediately pulls you into the story. The Fearless King I have been waiting on for almost a year and I had so much fun time reading this one last night and boy I read this book really quickly.

The Fearless King features our main couple: Journey King and Frank Evans. We saw some explosive chemistry between these two in book one, so they have that whole I hate you but lust after you type of relationship going on. Journey is one of the King siblings and helps run their mother’s business. Now that their mother is gone, it’s up to Journey and her brothers to keep it going and repair the damage done to it. But then her father comes back to town and is taking over the company. Elliot is the only person that Journey fears, Elliot (their birth father) was highly abusive to his children before their mother convinced him to leave. But now he has stepped in and worked to manipulating his children. Journey and her siblings are working at getting Elliott removed somehow, but when Elliot finds out about Frank, he wants him removed from her life by any means necessary. Soon Frank’s life is in danger and Journey will protect him no matter what.

What a wild ride this book turned out to be and I honestly had such fun with this story. Not quite as much as book one, since I did have issues with these siblings in “The Last King” but I did like Journey’s character and loved the relationship we see between her and Frank Evans. Frank is black and so many people especially Elliott and her grandmother disapprove of her relationship because of his ethnic background, or even how the police officers that get involved treat him just because of his ethnicity. I really liked that Robert addressed this issue and showed that there needs to be more acceptance in the world and how bad some are treated because of certain prejudices.

There is quite a strong level of suspense and boy this book had my heart racing from beginning to end and I was so entrenched in this story and how this book was written. I was impressed with how this author wrote this book though and the level of intrigue and dangerous elements that are portrayed and I am curious over which sibling will be next. I am hoping its the next sister because of what we see happen to her.

The romance that develops between Frank and Journey is quite fun. There is a strong angst level, but not too overpowering. They have explosive chemistry of course, and at first its a “fake relationship/fling” like tropes but it quickly develops into more when we see how much these two try to fight the emotions they feel for each other. They both have powerful personalities and I liked seeing them find the right balance in their relationship.

The Fearless King was a story of delightful sexual tension, mind engaging storytelling and a romance you want to cheer on!!! AN EMPOWERING TALE!

The Fearless King by Katee Robert is book Two in The Kings Series. This is the story of Journey King and Frank Evans. I have read the previous book and Journey and Frank were in that book, but this can be a standalone if you wish to do so. Journey mother has past and now Journey wants to secure her mother's business but her evil father is back wanting to take over. Journey fears no one but past fears about her father does set her back. Thinking that Frank would be the perfect decoy for her to have him pretend they are in a relationship to help her stay strong. But feelings of her and Frank's love / hate is turning more to love...but can these two strong people become one.
Enjoyed their story and this series!!

YOU GUYS!!! THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING!! I loved Samara and Beck in book one but honestly knew that Journey and Frank were going to own me. And frankly (no pun intended) - that's exactly what they did. I loved them so hard as this book came out of nowhere for me. In full transparency, it's obvious that bloggers read alot of books, right? Sometimes more than we physically should (as sleep deprivation is a real thing.) But honestly, The Fearless King is one of the few books I can think of that had me making deals with myself "for just one more chapter" and then grudgingly crashing at two am to only start reading again five hours later. This book was OUTSTANDING. I legit died for Frank and Journey. Their chemistry, passion and the connection between them lit my kindle on FIRE!!!!

While this is the second book in the King series, it is a standalone but is best enjoyed after reading the first book (in my opinion.) When Journey King needs protection from her father and his dangerous mission to take over the family business, she turns to Frank Evans, a dangerous and ruthless businessman who deals in secrets and lies. But when lines get crossed and emotions erupt, their fake relationship turns into something very very real.

I absolutely LOVED this story! It pushed all my swoony buttons and had everything I love in a story. Sassy heroine, uber protective alpha, scorching intensity and a fiery attraction between our couple. The storyline was so consuming and addicting and I never wanted it to end. I love how the author was able to showcase Frank's protectiveness and the idea that it was ok for Journey to be a little bit damaged and bruised. Her strength was inherent in her drive to succeed and pick herself up eCh time. GAH!! I absolutely FLOVED this story, this couple and would read about them forever if I could. I seriously will read anything Katee Robert writes and I can't wait for more!! Bravo!! 5 stars! ~Ratula

4.5 stars. Romantic suspense might be my new favorite genre. This book was fun, sexy, and had me on the edge of my seat. Frank Evans is everything you want and more. Like honestly, nice guys being nice but also not being overly dominant even though they’re clearly strong enough to take care of things. Frank let Journey be in control when it came to her life.

Reading ‘The Fearless King’ was sort of bizarre, because it felt like a very well-written drama that I wanted more of, but couldn’t understand because I was tossed straight into the middle of a series at say, episode 143 with a backlog of events that I’d already forgotten about having read the first book a long time ago. As a result, this hardly felt like a standalone with a sorely-lacking backstory that I had to spend quite a bit of time figuring out, right up until the halfway point of the book.

Pare down the layers however, and Frank and Journey’s story is relatively simple at the heart of it, minus the family drama taking place over corporate talk, hostile takeovers and real estate/business territory being muscled in on. He’s her white knight (sort of), she’s his protection project when her abusive father returns to overthrow all her family had worked for. Throw in a fake dating scenario until the emotions turn real, then pad it with even more complicated business and family networks and that’s what ’The Fearless King’ really is about. Basically, if you’re into romantic fiction that deals with corporate manoeuvring, manipulation and backstabbing, then this pretty much takes these themes and runs with them.

I’ve always liked Katee Robert’s compelling writing and this book is just another reminder why.

But there were some things that nagged at me: the insertion of a secondary character’s POV added along with Frank’s and Journey’s that felt out of place, with the background of a family pitted against each other to the extent that some characters seemed as though they were cut out of a Disney villain storyboard. Essentially Robert writes about the scarred, ugly side of powerful families so screwed up and so hungry for power and so…redemption-less and that my reading flagged a little when I got to the middle of it.

Still, Robert’s protagonists surprised me at several turns; Frank/Journey don’t entirely conform to stereotypes even if they sort of stumble into accidental heroism, where it doesn’t take a mountain to recognise that unnamed emotion called love. I can’t quite guess where Robert’s going with this whole tangled mess but it’s looking to be quite a journey—pun unintended.

The Fearless King is the second book in The Kings series and is not a complete stand-alone book. The main plot is the continuation of book one and you need to have fresh the events of The Last King if you don't want to feel like a fish out of the water. I wonder how much I will remember once book 3 is released because a lot of things are going on in this book and I am certain I won't remember them all. The most important thing is that Journey and Frank got their happy end.

I need to be completely honest here and say that the book could have been better. I don't know if I am at fault for not remembering everything or it was the book, but I wasn't satisfied with this story. It was lacking something for me. After revisiting my review of The last king, I am starting to think that the series is not for me 100% since neither book blew my mind and it's sad since I like Katee Robert's books. I love the model on the cover though. Whoever picked him up did a good job.

Is Eliza's point of view an indication that the next book will be hers? I hope so. She got dealt a bad hand and she has to play with it. Usually, I am up for a third point of view, but most of the time I felt like it wasn't needed.

Overall, I can say that I have mixed feelings for this book. One part of me didn't like it much and the other kept on reading so I know that it wasn't awful. A 3-star rating can fairly reflect my feelings for this book since in my world, 3.5 stars are the average and this one was slightly below from that.

The Story in 4 Sentences or Less: Journey King can handle anyone and anything. Except her cruel father, he makes her revert to the helpless child she once was and when he comes back to Houston with more than just a company take over in mind, Journey turns to Frank Evans for help. Frank’s ability to get information on anyone is what makes him such a good ally but it also puts him in a position to learn more about Journey than she’s comfortable with but she has no choice and something about him draws her and makes her start thinking that maybe it isn’t a bad thing to let someone in.

Like It? Hate it? Love it? Why? The Fearless King couldn’t have been more enjoyable if it was wrapped up in unicorn sparkles and served with Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake (My newest food obsession).

Journey King fascinated me as a character. On the surface it looks like she’s got everything anyone could want: looks, riches, power, and control. She’s running a powerful empire alongside her eldest brother and she appears to be the very definition of a BOSS. But underneath that very thin surface is another Journey King: An insecure, terrified woman trying to run from her demons and that made her more than just another character in a book. As a victim of physical, mental, and emotional abuse, Journey had been conditioned to react certain ways in certain situations and I could relate to her perfectly on that level.

Frank on the other hand remained a bit of an enigma to me throughout most of the story. He was definitely an alpha male with his take charge, take-no-prisoners attitude when it came to business but as he started learning more and more about Journey and her childhood it was like a flip switched and he started to show a softer side of himself, kind of a modern day knight in (tarnished) armor. I say modern day because while Frank was all about making sure Journey was safe, he learned that it was important for Journey to prove she could save herself to some degree. Frank was all about standing by Journey while she slayed her own dragons and if she needed help? All she had to do was ask and he was there. Can you say super hot? I love a man who can be an alpha but knows the importance and value of an independent, slay-your-own-demons woman. That’s part of what made their chemistry so addictive.

The Kings are a broken family with tons of issues and some surprising secrets. They’re far from perfect and this book reminds readers of that with the cat-and-mouse game that Journey’s father plays. The tension and suspense definitely made The Fearless King one of those can’t put it down because I have to see what happens next books. I’m definitely invested in this family and their rapidly shifting dynamics. At this point I’m eager for all of the remaining Kings to have their stories told. But I am surprised that with all that happened with Journey’s parents that there isn’t at least one illegitimate child running around. Now wouldn’t that be something?

Click It or Skip It? Click it. I’m not usually one for family drama but Katee Robert makes sure that the drama is just as addictive as the romance.

What a man...
What a man...
What a mighty good man."
Salt & Peppa

Journey King has been through a lot lately. (See Kings #1)
As acting head of Kingdom Corp., in the absence of her mother. Journey now finds herself on the frontline of a new fight.
Against an old foe.
Her father.

Elliott Bancroft has it all. He is rich, poised, charming, and...
A monster!
And with his wife no longer acting as head of the company she founded. He and those who aid him; are out for blood.
At any cost.
Just when you thought that the scheming, plotting, and backbiting of the King empire couldn't get any more devious.
Along comes book two in the series.
And this time it's more personal than ever.

Enter Frank Evans...
Frank is known among the King's as a man who can get things done. As well as one of the few people that can be trusted to keep secrets.
As we found out in a big way via book one.
But what we didn't know was that Journey and Frank have an attraction.
So it brooks no question that when things go south for our leading lady. Her knight of choice is one of the darker persuasion.
Pun intended...

Journey and Frank's story is a great deal more intense than that of Beckett and Samara. This is due to the fact that the horrors of their respective pasts loom very large on the horizon of their futures. And have the very real possibility of destroying everything and everyone that they hold dear.
For Journey...
Her father has always been a very real danger to both her and her siblings. Abusing them all both physically and mentally for a large part of their childhoods.
For Frank...
The mere fact that he is a black man of power and means in the heart of the "good ole boy" network that is Texas. Should be enough.
But no...
He is still reeling from both the wrongful conviction of his father for murder. And his subsequent murder in prison.
And the way in which said murder contributed to his mother's death from cancer.

Because the pain of their pasts rides so close to the surface. The need to protect that they bring out in each other makes the back and forth fight for control that Beckett and Samara had to give voice to completely unnecessary.
It was just a given. No matter the situation.

And speaking of situations...
There are so many.
That involve so many other people.
And do far more than sex ever could to draw these two together.

Not that the sex isn't AWESOME!
It is...
The sex in Journey and Frank's story is also a great deal more raw. Mirroring their psyches and general states of being.
And the fact that it comes with just the right amount of ph-so-alpha S&M.
Ohhhhhh yeah!

In short.
This story is about the coming together of two knights working together to slay some very REAL dragons. Both in business and in life.

After several years Journey King sets her eyes on her father. And each time she sees him she all but shrivels in fear. What is in her past with him and what of her future? Well, it becomes clear that there was a danger there and that it is present now. One night Frank Evans sees that Journey is in trouble. They discuss the fact that she is in danger, although she leaves certain details out. Frank agrees to pretend to be her boyfriend. Frank wields a lot of influence in the business community and he can open doors and discover facts that Journey cannot.

Frank definitely has a lot on his plate. Not only is he enthralled with Journey, he is at odds with her family, the powerful Kings. If he was not already at odds, he quickly makes himself their enemy. One of the issues is his race. He is told that he is "beneath" Journey. Then, there is a secret from his past that he would like to remain buried, although he certainly held no culpability in that matter. In any case, Frank vows to keep Journey safe.

The Fearless King is the second book in the Kings series and it was a great read. As I read The Last King just prior to this book, I enjoyed this one more. There is no denying the fact that Frank and Journey are incredibly drawn to one another, and there is also a lot of drama going on. As mentioned, the race issue comes up, and this happens more than once. Also, there is an ever-present danger facing Journey and that is definitely compelling. All in all, this developed into quite a suspenseful story, and I felt very invested when it came to working out both the past and the present.

Prior to these two books I haven't read anything by Katee Robert, but, she has definitely written a lot of series. No doubt, she has a strong fan base, and I enjoyed familiarizing myself with her work.

Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Katee Robert is such a master at family drama and suspense. In The Fearless King, the continuation of the King family drama starts off with another family member. The branches to their family tree proves that even some family can’t be trusted. A fact Journey King and her siblings are far to aware of.

In The Last King, cousin Beckett King, defeated his aunt and her attempts to rid him from the family. Now that she’s basically banished, there is a void that the worst of the worst shows up to fill.

Journey King was an incredible characters. Even in her weakest moments she showed incredible strength. Which also becomes more apparent when someone she cares about is in danger. She finds it hard to defend herself at times, but ALWAYS rises to the occasion to pretext someone she loves. Even when she was at her lowest, she didn’t like Frank Evans being her knight in shining armor. She didn’t want to be a damsel to be saved. She wanted help to gather the strength to save herself. It was incredible.

Frank Evans is one of the most powerful men in the city and can hold his own against a family as formidable as the Kings, so he has no hesitation when Journey comes to him for help.

Both characters shared incredible chemistry that started out as a fire fueled “frenemy” type relationship. They’d always had a strong friction between them during occasional business dealings but once they both let their guards down, falling was inevitable for them both.

This story was suspenseful from beginning to end and I’m looking forward to more adventures with the King family.

This was a novel that didn't hold any punches!

This was a fun read for me. I loved that the characters were constantly changing and showing new sides to themselves. it kept it more relatable and far more interesting.

The book was a quick read for me that was packed full of fantastic characters. It isn't eery book you read that comes with not only a strong cast of main characters, but a very strong cast of secondary as well.

This book os packed full with suspense though, so don't let me saying it as a quick read deter you. It  was packed to the tp full of suspense and danger and absolute SWOON.

This is the second book in the series but can completely be read as a standalone! I though, will be going back

The Fearless King is definitely not what I thought it would be. It was better. I jumped into this series with this book and I have no regrets. (I need to go back and read book one though!)

Journey is the kind of woman I want to grow up to be. She is strong, smart, and when she gets out of her own head, a force to be reckoned with. Now, Frank on the other hand....

Frank is devilishly handsome, cunning, and a master planner. He is everything sexy about this book. The chemistry they have is delicious. Not gonna lie, I would totally take Frank home if my hubs weren't in the picture. Protective, supportive, and sexy- that's the stuff dreams are made of.

Enjoy The Fearless King because I have a feeling you may just fall for them all.

These dysfunctional Kings really bring out all the crazy in this one. When her father returns in an attempt to take back control of the family business, Journey King knows she is going to have to take drastic measures to prevent it. Turning to Frank Evans for help may be the most drastic measure of all. It's no secret he isn't a fan of the Kings but he is the only one who could turn up enough dirt to keep her father at bay. Helping Journey isn't something Frank really wants to do but he knows that turning Journey down will be impossible for him. Posing as Journey's boyfriend Frank begins to dig. Soon he realizes that he'll do whatever it takes to keep Journey safe and happy.

This is a well done book and I love these characters. Definitely a book I recommend.

Things got real ugly real fast for the Kings in this one. Daddy dearest came home and was the same nightmare he was when the kids were little. It was interesting how all of them reacted and broke my heart at the same time. I liked that they did their best to stand up to him again. At times it was hard and a lot of the standing up was one step forward, 2 steps back. By the end I was cheering Journey on, she finally was standing up for herself and those she loved.

Frank was a great match for Journey. I really liked how he let her fight her battles, but was right there to help when asked or to help deal with the after math of the battle.
