Olivia Smythe is the daughter an English earl and a Scottish woman. He has decided that his half-Scottish daughter should go to the Highlands for her own safety to avoid the border skirmishes that plague their area. He’s also pleaded her hand to a cruel Englishman.
Laird Boyd MacPherson has no idea the Englishwoman he’s saved from cutthroats is the cousin of a Highland laird. He has no idea the courage and wherewithal that this young half-Scot can muster. He is quick to find out when she runs away and seeks to hide from her betrothed and the rest of the world.
Boyd turns the Highlands upside down looking for her, only to find her in the least likely of places.
Olivia was half English and half Scottish but raised as an English lady.
Olivia's dad sent to stay with her Scottish cousin because a war was coming between both countries. He feared for her safety. She was afraid to go to strangers but found they were not monsters.
Laird Boyd MacPherson.Came upon her and her guards being robbed and rescued them. He got Olivia safely to her cousin. There were sparks between them.
She was betrothed to an English man that gave Olivia dread when she had met him. He came looking for her as his promised possession, not for love.
She ran away . The story that unfolds is one of courage and hope for a wonderful life.
The social mores of Scotland and England are contrasted as the main and supporting characters are depicted. The coming English war to conquer Scotland is the context of the story. We see Boyd's and Olivia's relationship from their POVs. Their feelings race ahead of their beliefs and thoughts, dragging the latter behind. Their inner struggles about the burgeoning relationship are beautifully told in detail with humor. Matters are confused even more because Boyd and Olivia repeatedly reveal their appreciation and interest in the other, only to later pretend indifference. Olivia's flight from her English intended carries the story along to its happy ending.
The book was a nice read for the most part but a few spots left me scratching my head going “that doesn’t fit the rest of the story”. And the lovey-dovey nonsense in the last chapter was way overboard. A tough Highland laird would’ve never spoke like that. A modern love stuck 12-year-old maybe, not a highland warrior of old. He went from warrior to wimp, destroying the image she had created in the previous chapters. Also, the author needs to proofread a little better, in more than one place character names were changed causing confusion and spellcheck only checks for misspelled words; not, for example, “lad” when she was referring to a “lass”.
It was ok. I didn't really see any chemistry between the main characters and felt they were thinking about love well before their relationship has developed enough for it to be believable. The heroine was quite naive and emotionally reactive - she swooned and was prone to tears. But I will say she did show some decent character growth. The hero was protective without being overbearingand. Overall, the writing style wasn't really my cup of tea.
Loved Boyd & Olivia. Not sure why a seer was even a character, but enjoyed the others. Olivia shows courage & determination, as Boyd does too. This book kept me wondering what would happen next. Thoroughly enjoyable! And I don't remember reading any porn. The lack makes this even a better book.
This is about Olivia, a twenty year old daughter of an English Earl and a Scottish lady and Boyd, a Scottish laird who meet and fall in love. Meanwhile a war between the two nations is beginning to brew. In the midst of all this they find love and a happy ever after
Enjoyed this historical Highland romance about a Scottish laird, who rescues a part English/Scottish lass from thieves in her travels to safety. Coming to care for her, she remains promised to a nasty English lord who pursues her. She escapes with both the lord and laird in pursuit. Clean entertaining read with a bit of gory as found in most historical Scottish books.
I have just finished the most beautiful love story I have rear in a well. You had me worried for a while but I know you would turn it around. I love your books. Thank you again. Ada G.
Nice enough plot, but some things didn't seem logical. And there were word errors. Wrong words, missing words. So I'm disappointed. I was led to believe this was one of the better authors, but clearly not. Editing counts.
Olivia father has promised her to an evil man, and Olivia escapes to Scotland from England to be safe. This evil man demands her to return to England with him, this begins the game of hide and seek.
I don’t normally read this genre, but I totally enjoyed it! In this day and age, it is difficult to find a man who will love you forever faithfully so the next best thing is reading about it.
Such a daring adventure for an English noble lass. Sent to the highlands before war broke out. What an adventure she had. Laird Boyd had an adventure of his own. Both of them incurred danger. What a great ending.
I took this book knowing full well that there were a number of errors. Once I c was caught up in Olivia ' and Boyd's adventures I stopped noticing them. This book was full of adventure and humor and suspense! It was truly delightful.
I love historical romance, I have read several other books by this author and I have never been disappointed. So if you enjoy historical romances give this author a try you will not be disappointed.
As was looma between Scotland and England, Edward Smythe, 2nd Earl of Carlisle sent his daughter Olivia to Scotland for safe keeping. But the trouble began as soon as she crossed the border into Scotland.
Apparently, I have read this before but did not record it. The story is delightful but, unfortunately, it is full of errors that should have been rectified when editing. It contains a fabulous adventure and a wonderful burgeoning love.
Severe lack of relationship development, bordering on instalove- hate. Could have been much better if it was fleshed out between them. Overall, felt rushed.

I really wanted to like this book but I couldn't find myself rooting for the couple. Other than not being able to get into it I found it a well written and interesting.
