It is my personal mission to read as many underrated books and authors from India as I can this year and Mehboob Murderer is one of them. To say that I am surprised is an understatement. My first impression from the title was that the book is probably about a psychotic killer/roadside romeo murdering his lover/unrequited love. But it was not exactly about that; yes, it did have elements of the aforementioned but the whole mystery doesn't center it (the title can be misleading). The start was a little slow but eventually the story picks up a good pace and towards the end you are on the edge to find out who the murderer is.

For a first time writer, the author really did a good job and she deserves much more audience (Way better than Bhagats and Duttas, if you ask me). Of course, there could be some improvements, like I do wish the ending was a tad more snappy but it still doesn't take away from the fact that whole story was beautifully executed and well planned. I was also hoping to read more about the protagonist's personal story but according to the author, that's part of the second installment.

All in all, it was a nice read and I'd recommend it anytime.

The author got to the point and made a murder case in the very first chapter of the book. The scene was created in an amazingly scary way. I found myself hooked with it from that scene and couldn’t put it down.
The start of the book was fast and to the point, but as the story progressed the scenes began to become too detailed and not that much related to the plot. There wasn’t any guessing game in this book. The story was clear, the suspects laid yet there was nothing to guess. This put me a bit off the book as there was pieces missing in the puzzle and they were revealed only when the mystery opens.
I loved the character of Abbas and it was hard not to. He was badass, hardcore and smart and most importantly he mind the business. His story was, I think unnecessary and not that important but I would like to know his past.
Every murdered victim had a past which was not exactly normal which made the story interesting but unrealistic, I mean how come none of them was innocent and didn’t deserve to die?
The story was usually fast and very interesting. But it wasn’t just the story that kept me reading but the way it was unfolded as well. Even the detailed and unnecessary scenes were interesting to read as they were beautifully written.
The book ends with Abbas getting a new case and I hope its penned down soon.

Mehboob Murderer is a book taut with mystery, thrill and suspense. In this story of murder mayhem and sheer madness the only thing cooling it all off was Inspector Abbas. I could connect with him on common grounds. Introversion being the first and foremost.
Questions like why did he choose this particular café and why those people exactly arise from the very beginning that have worked like catalysts in the story. As layers come off one by one and the pieces are being put together to bring out the actual picture into the light, everything becomes as clear as daylight and it is well understood that folks can indeed be fooled with randomness while there's none present. I enjoyed this crime fiction quite a lot as it felt more like I was watching a movie. The end though, I wouldn't call that disappointing but, it felt a bit diluted. Something a bit edgier would have been a little more sufficing. But tell you what, the epilogue kinda made up for it! Would rate it 4 🌟

Mehboob Murderer.

Thank you for the review copy @_nupuranand.

Being an avid reader of murder mysteries, I was very eager to read Nupur Anand's debut novel. Indian authors are emerging fantastically in the recent past with stories that are intricately woven with great care and a strong storyline. I was not disappointed by Nupur's work considering how well she managed to pen down a murder mystery showing no signs that this was her very first novel. Mehboob Murderer is a gripping read, one that would make you want to finish it in a single sitting.
~
When a mass murder incident happens at the iconic Mehboob Cafe of Mumbai, the people are panic-stricken and demand for the killer to be captured right away. Six people are murdered brutally and the police are left frantically searching for clues that can lead them to the killer. Inspector Intekhaab Abbas is assigned to the case and he immediately gets to work. Abbas, being the protagonist of the story walks us through his investigation procedure. A group of police officers are assigned to assist him in solving the case within the deadline given by the Minister. What follows next is Abbas's journey in decoding the case within a period of two weeks. He investigates about each of the victims to derive an answer to this merciless act. The book also reflects on his personal life as he struggles to find balance in his romantic relationship.
~
The case is complicated than it initially seems to be. Abbas has to figure out who the killer is and why he went on a killing spree at this old cafe. He narrows down the list of suspects and works on it tirelessly till he nails the case. The plot might seem simple enough but the author has narrated the details exceptionally. It took me a while to understand who the murderer was but I managed to do it before reading the entire book. The writing is easy and perfect for both beginners as well as avid readers. Though the book was quite interesting, it however felt a bit dragged. It slowed down considerably in the middle and took me a while to get to the end. But, an impressive read by a debut Indian author.

Rating - 3.7/5.

Book Title: Mehboob Murderer
Author: Nupur Anand
Format: Paperback

Book Title:
The title of the book ' Mehboob Murderer ' is mysterious and interesting.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is a very simple abstract picture of a blood tainted window glass of a hotel with all the furniture inside thrown away haphazardly depicting an unwanted situation.

Plot:
Set up in the City of Mumbai, a shocking incident of six people getting murdered in the most unexpected way that too at the same place, a Parsi hotel. Uninterested yet determined officer, Intehkaab Abbas takes up the charge to solve the case. As the story progresses along with the case, many unknown and unexpected twists and turns related to the person killed comes up. The story unfolds nice subplots.

It is hard to believe that this is the author's debut novel, but keeping in mind Nupur Anand's work experience as a journalist, her writing is very impressive.

What I like:
1. An engrossing story right from the initial pages
2. A very well captivating and interesting flow of the story
3. Retention of the mystery in every page
4. The characters and their illustrations with backdrop stories is quite good
5. The duty carried out by the Police Officers is showcased very nicely.

What I didn't like:
The story is so well scripted that even though if I want to really pick up some errors, I will never find and hence this section stands obsolete.

Characters:
Every character in the story is given a balanced role to play. Nowhere in the story, we find characters playing their roles overboard or overtly grim but only as required.

Narration:
The narration found in this story is absolutely engaging and thrilling.

Language & Grammar:
Good language with good grammar is found in the story.

My Final Verdict:
A definite page-turner!

Book Title: 4/5
Book Cover: 4/5
Plot: 4/5
Characters: 4/5
Narration: 4/5

Nupur Anand's debut novel, 'Mehboob Murderer', is a nail-biting murder mystery which will keep you hooked to the book till the very end. The book is really interesting. Right from the very beginning, the story is packed with a lot of interesting turn of events and the thrill is kept intact till the end.

The story takes place in Mumbai. On a rainy September night, six people are murdered in an old Parsi cafe. The plot revolves around how Inspector Intekhaab Abbas investigates the case. The mass murder suddenly attracts a lot of media attention and political pressure mounts on the police force to nab the mass murderer. But the protagonist, Inspector Abbas is not ready to give up so easily. As he digs deeper into the lives of each of the victims, more complicated the case becomes.
Read the book to know how Inspector Abbas proceeds to investigate the murder and what happens next.

The plot is gripping and has the capability to keep the readers hooked until the very end. It is fast-paced. Certain parts of the plot, like the ending, could have been better. The language is quite simple and lucid. Considering this is her debut work, the author has really done a commendable job in penning down such an amazing crime thriller. The characters are well developed. The narrative style is perfect and the way in which the events unfold intrigues the reader.

I absolutely loved this book and am eagerly waiting for the next book. Hope it releases soon! :)
If you are a fan of crime thrillers/murder mysteries this book is for you.

Mehboob Murderer by Nupur Anand is one of my best reads this year.

This is a story about a mass murder which happened in the Mehboob Café, Mumbai. A psychotic killer murdered six people and peacefully went to bed. Inspector Intekhaab Abbas took over this case and swore to himself that he would catch the killer. The blurb gives us a sneak peek into the journey that seems promising and the story does not disappoint.

To say that the book kept me on the edge throughout would be an understatement, from the first page itself I knew I was in for a long and yet exciting journey. The plot consists of various subplots that compliment the story well. Every character has been given enough attention to make sure they leave an impact on you even if they're not the ones that the whole book is about. The intricate details, the mystery unraveling and entagling consecutively makes you anticipate more and more. The writing style is incredible and makes the experience even better. The vivid descriptions and flow of words keep you hooked even if the scene unraveling is something mundane.

The climax was enthralling and the build up to that point, ever since the first line was progressive and exciting. I didn't find anything wrong with the book at all. I was so addicted to the world and characters and storyline that the author created that I couldn't keep it down and finished it in two sittings. I totally recommend this.

A quick read, an entertaining crime thriller.

Six people are gunned down late in the night in a small Irani cafe near Churchgate Station. The crime seems random at first, the work of a madman. There is no forensic evidence or eyewitness evidence whatsoever. The victims are seemingly unconnected. Flora Fountain Station House Officer Intekhaab Abbas is asked to lead the case. Almost impossibly, the home minister sets a deadline of two weeks to find the killer.

The book opens with the killer's narrative. I admit I panicked a little because I'm not a fan of crime thrillers where we see the criminal's mind and the investigation being narrated side-by-side. But thankfully, there are just 3-4 pages of the killer's narrative, and they reveal no hints as to who the killer is.

The investigation is not fast-paced and unrealistic. It's an almost-impossible case and that sense of grunt work and hopelessness hangs through most of the pages. But somehow that doesn't make the narrative boring at all. I also admit that the ending was truly a surprise!

I loved the meticulousness with which the procedures are done, and the interludes narrating the stories of different characters. I always like a crime thriller better when there's some emotional connection with the characters.

The book was all the more relatable because it contained names of places and a cultural context I'm quite familiar with.

I would love to know more about Abbas, but I guess that's planned for the next book, eh?

‘Mehboob Murderer’ by Nupur Anand is a story that takes place in Mumbai on a rainy Saturday night in September. In a city which never sleeps a mysterious murder of six people takes place at a famous Parsi café. Our protagonist Inspector Abbas who is committed to his job but hates his promotion which recently received for solving a case in record time. He’s been allocated to solve this case and with the mysterious murderer still roaming around, the case becomes an instant hype in media and the unwanted political pressure and the unachievable deadline forces the police to close the case as soon as possible. A similar killing has occurred at Navi Mumbai based  Bar. Is this the same murderer who killed people in Navi Mumbai? Why would somebody kill 6 random strangers? Was it that the killer was trying to get to someone else but shot these people? Will Inspector Abbas be successful in catching the culprit? To know more read Mehboob Murder.

My Opinions:

The book is very interesting and would keep the readers on edge each page has something for the readers. The cover is very interesting and the name of the book is such that there is some psycho-lover who would be a murderer but it is very apt to the plot of the book.

The plot of the book is very intriguing and would surely make the readers want to know what waits ahead. The story is intelligently woven the killer and the victims and slowly reveals itself as the investigation progresses. The story takes place over the two weeks that the police has received as a deadline.

The characters are well-developed especially our protagonist Abbas. She connects us to his personal life, professional life and even takes us to his childhood.

Loved the writing style of the author she has written in such a manner that you would actually be trying to guess who the killer actually is and she somewhat even gives the readers a hint that leads to the killer. The book is written in a simple and lucid language it would be easy for the readers to read and understand.

Overall, the book is very interesting and I would surely recommend this book to all my friends and also to readers who are looking to read something in the genre Crime, Thriller & Mystery.

Name of the book - Mehboob Murderer by Nupur Anand.
Stars given - 5 on 5 stars and a big bag of candy and some of favorite pastries and a hug.
My take on the book -
Who likes mystery?
I do.
Who like murders?
Who likes angry youngish man, with a chip on their shoulder, lone wolf law enforcement officer?
I doooooo.
Well I do in this case because the other talk, dark and handsome law enforcement officer I know is my father who will tan my hide if he finds out that I am trying my level best to objectify an officer. Even though he is fictional this will get me into trouble so I will keep my drooling in check and jump into the story but only if I get to read book two which is kinda, totally promised at the end of book one.
First the cover, it's amazing!!!
Second the story line. *wink*wink*. It's lovely and totally unpredictable. You know unlike the ones you guess the endings of, trust me you won't be able to do it by reading the last page.
How do I know?
Well simple, cause I tried.
No need to get all worked up, as you can see in tee picture I had to fight my Mimi for the book.
That's the beauty of a good book.
It's steal worthy.
In short I loved it.

Mehboob Murderer has be one of my most engrossing, enthralling and super-mysterious read since the start of 2019.

Set amidst the bustling city of Mumbai, Mehboob Murderer grips you up in the engrossing story of a series of murders in the Mehboob cafe!

It's focus mainly is upon the investigation done by the police-in-charge. But to my amazement this debut novel has in for the readers, a lot of surprises and new reading delicacies. With delicacies i point towards the different-yet-intricately-linked plots and subplots at various levels of the book. I mean, WOW, just WOW!

Strong and detailed characterisation amidst the twisting and turning plot, still maintaining the essence of a mystery-suspense book, is what made me fall in love with this author's work!

And what to say about the writing style of the author! It is commendable. The focus on intricately detailed characters and storylines had me awestruck during the course of reading the book!

The cover of the book looks as stunning and thrilling as seems the title!

Overall, I am super happy after reading this debut mystery - thriller!

I must say an intricate page turner.
This book is so well written i am short of words.

Starting with the cover of the book, it very well explains the genre of the book and gorgeous.

Plot is to talk about, written with ease, unexpected and full of details.
The story is about a hotel in Mumbai, which goes haywire due to six murders. The book has good twists and turns, and to know them you have to read the book.

Every page has an element of mystery. Characters actually have their respective importance.
This is Nupur's first book and it is absolutely engaging.

The cover was the eye catcher to me and so the title, as I personally like reading crime fiction. The story and the narration is upto the mark, I was stucked till the end. I didn't found the story away from the plot at any point this is the plus point. The author has done a commendable job writing such a good crime fiction, a must read. But I will suggest for them who are too much into reading not for beginners they will find it boring.
Coming to the style of writing I can say hard work pays off, the hard work was seen as I was reading the story. I made me thing what will happen at last, and that the thing I love about reading crime fiction.
For me, this book deserves a chance to be featured in Bollywood movie and I am sure it will be a hit.
Now coming to some cons of the book, as I started reading the book it was a wow feeling, but I never expected such an ending by the author, I personally didn't like the ending, actually I thought the author was a bit less of thoughts or ideas while finishing the book.
Rest, loved it.
A must read.

Name- Mehboob Murder
Author- Nupur Anand
Genre- Crime Thriller, Mystery
Pages- 282

Mehboob Murder is Nupur Anand's debut but it is hard to accept that, once you read the fast-paced, crisp and thrilling narration.

The story opens in Mumbai, with the happenings of one rainy Saturday night in September. In the city which never sleeps, the most thrilling incident is where six people are shot down in a famous Parsi cafe, near a police station. Our protagonist, Inspector Abbas has always been devoted to his job, but hates his recent promotion. This case becomes the hype in media and the unwanted political pressure forces the police to close it as soon as possible. While everyone tries to blame it on a psychopath and save their jobs, Abbas is hell-bent on reaching the roots of this mass murder. The deeper Abbas digs, the dirtier the secrets get.

I finished this book at a lightning speed- that is how interesting it is. The cover is perfect to grab your attention. The title got me to think a mad lover would be the killer, but is so apt to the plot. The plot triggered my intrigue, right from the first sentence. Anand has skillfully woven a multi-layered story, including all victims, and slowly reveals each layer as the investigation progresses. The entire book is spread over the two weeks that the police has to close the case. I absolutely love how the author has been able to connect us to Abbas's personal life as much as to his professional one by talking about his childhood, mother and Jennie. The best part is that Anand has dropped clues for us, here and there to be able to get the killer. Someone who reads this genre often will get it easily. It does seem that we will get a second book soon, with Abbas at work again. Simple language and crisp narration is the highlight of this book. The police proceedings and even the malpractices have been captured well. But as much as the book held me, the climax was a little too direct for me to take in. Nonetheless, it is surely recommended if you are looking for a gripping page-turner.

On a rainy September night, amidst the chaos of Ganapati Visarjan festival in Mumbai, a gory crime takes place in an old Parsi Cafe named Mehboob. Six defenseless people are mercilessly gunned down by a nameless, faceless killer. When the crime scene is discovered the following morning by the Cafe owner, Bookwala, the majority of the Police force and the media are keen on attributing the murders to a madman. But the chief investigating officer of the case, Intekhaab Abbas is reluctant to accept this psychotic-man-on-a-killing-spree theory for he believes "..there was always a method in madness. People were often fooled by randomness, where none existed." So when the team investigating the murders is handed a deadline of two weeks to find out the killer, instead of walking down the easy path, Abbas chooses to investigate the personal lives of all the victims to see if there was any underlying motive for anyone to kill any of them. What follows is a super engaging thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat all along.

Mehboob Murderer is, however, much more than your typical whodunit crime thrillers. For me, the most appealing part of the novel was how the author has depicted each and every character of the story. Abbas is convinced that the culprit had come to kill one of the people present at the cafe in that fateful night and killed everyone else to cover his tracks. As they say, there is always more to than what simply meets your eyes. While digging in the lives of all the victims, harsh truths are found. Each of the victims had their own demons and there were people who had motives to kill each one of them. The disappointment set in when all those people had strong alibis for the night the incident took place. Hence, the chase continues but even as the deadline approaches, the officers have little knowledge regarding the whereabouts of the murderer.

This is a really well-written and extremely fast paced piece of thriller. The narrative is almost addictive, it pulls you in only after you have read the first few pages. While you are absorbed in the pages of the book, trying to figure out who the killer is, the author spins a tale of life with finesse. Lives of all the characters (even the secondary ones) are explored and most of the times, these details are not pleasant. This character building is essentially what keeps the story going, but none of it is out of place or superficial. There was not a single page in the book where I felt like the central mystery was being side-tracked with unnecessary details. Nupur Anand's writing is practical, witty, sarcastic and at times brutally honest.

That being said, it is mandatory to mention that the mystery was a brilliant one too. Clues are laid out throughout the pages but it was rather difficult to connect the dots and guess the killer even when I was close to the climax of the story. That's where Mehboob Murderer succeeds as a fine thriller. Also, the epilogue suggests that there is going to be sequel to this book (although I am not sure about it). That is definitely an added bonus! As a debutante author, Nupur Anand has done a commendable job penning down this story.

Truth be told, crime thriller in Indian fiction is a rarity. While most authors are busy writing the same old cliche romance stories, this book is definitely like a breathe of fresh air in the current scenario. Whether you are a fan of crime fiction or not, you will undoubtedly enjoy this book. I would like to thank the author for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

My review:
Mehboob Murderer was an exhilarating read. With a deadline looming over us all, the thriller goes on a pace, which seems nail-bitingly slow and yet we keep at the edge of our seats, expecting some revelation to jump up at us suddenly from around the corner.
Through the various characters that the author introduces to us, she also points out many issues and situations that prevail in the society – which are not necessarily good but rather, inhumane and evil.
Natasha seems like the perfect career-woman who has it all – she is successful and single and happy. However, after the mass murder as the police delve into the lives of all these people, we find murky realities behind them all. Natasha’s past throws light on abuse in a relationship – physical, mental and also sexual. The patriarchal expectations and such, set upon her by Aneesh were also disgusting. Moreover, the embezzling of her personal funds further degrade the personality of Aneesh and forms himself as the lowest of the scum.
Alam is no better than Aneesh. Sexual harassment, rape and molestation also occurs within the home itself and the author has brought in this through the back story of Alam. How someone can abuse the women and children within their own family is stupefying to believe really.
Mental health is another theme that the writer brings in through Sujata and her needs. Vikram has a creative streak in him that really helps and adds some joy and lightness to this otherwise heavy read.
Again, the story of a father whose daughter has been raped and then murdered is a cruel one and we see an old yet probably determined Praveen Bharadwaj. Then again, the realization of parents that their kids are not really kids anymore and have a secret and private life of their own is a bit heartbreaking.
The flesh trade or rather, prostitution is the oldest job in the world and we see the fate of a pair of brother and sister as it takes over their lives and they let it – because there is no other way in which they can possibly otherwise make enough money.
It is a heartbreaking novel for sure; as we read through and find out more about all the people murdered in the mass murder at Mehboob Café, we see different phases of life that different people face.
I love how the author has brought in so many aspects of society through all these different people and then tied them together in unity in a story of madness and rage and revenge. I did not at all expect the murderer to be who he was. Not even for a moment did I think that it could have been him. Kudos to the author for being able to keep the identity of the murderer under wraps, until the very end when she reveals it amidst one last drink all the police men have. The characterization of the city Mumbai is also on point. With a simple and lucid writing style, and that dramatic ending, I think the book was awesome.

Verdict:
I rate this book a 4/5 stars. I really enjoyed it and I hope to pick up more of the author’s books.

Mehboob murderer, Nupur Anand’s debut novel, unravels a stunning truth neither the police nor the reader is prepared for.
Review:
I fell in love with the authors writing just as I went a few pages ahead in her book. The way Nupur Anand has written her debut novel, she has definitely made me a fan of hers and her writing. The book is crisp and well-paced. It beautifully captures the essence of the city of Mumbai and its ways. Any reader who has experienced the city and its ways will relate to the book in many ways. A few pages into the book I’m sure any reader will face what I call “the book lovers dilemma” of “just one page more”. It is very difficult to put down the book because as you move ahead in the story you get so engrossed into it that you would leave anything else to know what comes ahead in the book. All the characters are well written and fit perfectly in the story. Till the very end of the book you make your own assumptions about the killer but the end will shock you. The book has all the necessities of a perfect thriller, a dashing hero, pressures of solving the mystery, numerous suspects and numerous motives but one main culprit and a shocking motif. Along with the thrills of a thriller one more beautiful aspect of the book is the way the author pens down human relations and emotions. The relationships between the team of policemen, the personal relation of the protagonist with his ladylove, the relationship of the victims and their loved or hated ones and their family, the relationship between superiors and the juniors and the emotions attached to all of these relationships. It was really hard for me to keep the book aside even for food or sleep and once it ended, I know it will always stay with me. This was my third book by Om Books International and a big shout out to the whole team for always coming up with books of different genres which make their own place in the readers heart. Book- Mehboob Murderer
Author- @_nupuranand
Publishers- @ombooksinternational
“She had betrayed him.
She waited for him outside the station near Café Mehboob, far away from the prying eyes of the ticket collector. They agreed to have a cup of chai and bun maska. It all began there.”
.
.
Abbas woke up to a call informing him about the murder of 6 people unrelated to each other at Café Mehboob. Then began the hunt, the run to chase down the person behind this mass barbaric killing with a deadline of 14 days in hand. Was there a mad man on loose or was it the work of a person with some motive? Abbas’ instinct said there must be a motive and that’s when he started digging the past of those 6 dead people. Secret life of a psychotic, unknown lover in an extramarital affair, survivor of an abusive relationship with changed identity, rapist of his little granddaughters, brother who arranged clients to sleep with his sister and a blind man on a mission to catch his daughter’s murderer and a hell lot of overwhelming details is what Abbas got after going through the life of those 6 dead people and they had someone in their life who could have had the motive to kill them. But is it so easy to catch the killer? Is there really a motive behind this or is there a mad man roaming scot-free ?

In her debut novel itself @_nupuranand has undisputedly established that she’s a master storyteller. Weaving a web of mystery around the life and death of people who are unrelated to each other, carrying on the investigation story by Abbas and his team, Abbas’ personal life all has been narrated so flawlessly that the whole time you’ll be on high alert because the killer is still free and might be just there, yes, right there in the page you just read!
@_nupuranand has further very meticulously shown her skill at character development and keeping the mystery going on and having a thrill at the back of your head searching for someone/something to relate it to, I’m talking about page 151 of the book. The plot is top-notch and the execution is like the tastiest icing, cherry and all sort of beautiful decorations on the cake.

Mehboob Murderer

On a rainy September night, six people are gunned down mercilessly in an old Parsi café in Mumbai. The mass murder at café Mehboob, located barely a few hundred metres from the police station, and Right next to one of the busiest Railway stations in Mumbai, jolts the city out of its complacence. The media immediately swings into action, while political pressure mounts on the police force to nab the mass murderer. With everyone eager to place the blame of the murders on a madman in a bid to have the case dismissed swiftly, the headstrong Inspector intekhaab Abbas is determined to get to the bottom of the murders. On probing the lives of the victims, he stumbles upon a heady cocktail of love, lust, jealousy, betrayal, rage, longing, misery and ecstasy. Mehboob murderer, nupur Anand’s debut novel, unravels a stunning truth neither the police nor the reader is prepared for.

So basically it's a crime thriller story and the plot of the Story has been written in a very efficient manner. So one September night 6 people have been gunned down in an old Parsi cafe in Mumbai. Abbas who has been newly promoted has been given the charge to find out the criminal and take into the investigation. Where as everyone believes it's been an act of a mad man, Abbas strongly believe that there is more story in it and he unfolds the story within some days only. There was a lot of political pressure because of the press and the media. And finally he comes out with the result and able to find out the criminal behind these heinous crime.

I have enjoyed reading it a lot. Undoubtedly one of my best read of 2019 till now. As I love reading crime thrillers so reading it was a treat for me. The Story is Very gripping and engaging, the character sketch is Very influential and different. These is not just one story but it contains a lot of different stories in it. Just as the cover and the title, I even liked the writing style of the author. Highly highly recommend to each and every one.

"Life is not always a Bollywood movie.Ignorance is not always bliss. But then, the price of death was too much to pay for it."
.
.
Six people have been shot down at Café Mehboob in Mumbai. While the police suspects it as the work of a madman, the lead officer appointed  to this case i.e, Abbas, is against the popular belief and feels there is something more deep which leaded to this mass murder. They have to solve the case within two weeks or it may hamper their jobs. The public won’t forgive them if they don’t arrest the murderer within the given time. When a background check is done on all the victims it comes up that all of them have a dark past thus leading to several suspects. But all the suspects has an alibi. Abbas is working hard to find the killer  even though his love life is going through a rough patch. Although they come up with several leads, Abbas decides to follow up on the one which has been neglected the most. And what he finds next shocks him to the core. Who is the mehboob murderer? Grab the book to find out.

The book is well written with a gripping plot which keeps you guessing till the end. It is filled with twists and turns which will amaze you. Moreover the background stories of the victims make you question humanity. They are so heinous and disturbing and leave you feeling miserable. The characters are well casted and my favourite is Abbas, a intelligent and dedicated policeman. The language used is simple and easily understandable. It is fast paced and can be finished in a single sitting. If you are a sucker for murder mystery just like me then you are in for a great treat. Also it being the debut book of the author, she surely deserves all the appreciation for weaving such a great suspense. I recommend this to everyone out there. P.S the story finishes off with a cliffhanger and I am really happy to know that there are talks of a second part.

Few books give you that vibe that it can be turned into a perfect suspense thriller movie. I surely got such vibes while reading this book by @_nupuranand. If this is a debut work, I can imagine the work which we will get to see after so many experiences.
The book has Mumbai all over it written. Being a mumbaikar myself, I could relate the places and could visualize the scenes.
💜💜💜
Mehboob Murderer is a rare find in Indian crime-fiction, in that it keeps the suspense alive and going right till the very end.
The story is built around Abbas, a chain-smoking, beer-guzzling cop, with an uncanny sense of intuition.
The story starts with Mumbai.
6 people are gunned down mercilessly in an old Parsi café. The mass murder at café Mehboob, located barely a few 100 metres from the police station, and Right next to one of the busiest Railway stations in Mumbai, jolts the city out of its complacence. On probing the lives of the victims, he stumbles upon a heady cocktail of love, lust, jealousy, betrayal, rage, longing, misery and Ecstasy.
💙💙💙💙
The best thing I found that it was a completely page Turner, with the suspense element maintained till the very end.
The beautiful landmarks and picturesque of Mumbai has been defined in the book. I really loved the role of *Abbas*.
The writing is clean and clear. Narration is crisp. Story is engaging. Language is lucid.
I loved the Q & A round in page 36 to 41. Chapter 46 to 48 were really good.
A book which has already got applauds from so many people is worth reading.

Review: ✍️ .
❓❓Why should you read it? .
✔️ It’s my first fictional crime thriller with a punch of mystery. And the book truly draw me towards it with the essence it has. 👏👏👏
✔️Every chapter have lots of twist and turns. I bet, no one can guess the killer, final chapters are what makes you flabbergasted. 😍😍😍
✔️In the investigation, the team digs in into the lives of the 6 victims, thereby narrating us 6 wrenching stories which stumble over love, lust, miseries, betrayals, longing, and rage; ends with getting 6 alibis. 😳
In every team member perspective, the madman is different. 🤙
✔️ Another best reason to go through it is ‘characters narration’. It’s just blown my mind. What a lovely story. ❤️❤️ ✔️ The story is as attractive as its cover. 🤩
✔️Language is too simple and lovely. The flow goes on and the mystery from the first page to the end makes you bite your nails dragging you to the edge of the seat. 🥳🥳🥳

Meheboob murderer is a debut novel by @nupuranand.
To be honest, I had a really wonderful experience with this book.  Majority of you'll know that crime/ thrillers aren't my type of genres, but this book has my heart!

The concept of this book is of a mass murder that kills 6 people on an evening in cafe meheboob. Though the concept was quite general, it was executed amazingly.
The writing style was excellent, every scene is described very vividly and all the places are described intricately, it felt like seeing a movie as I was reading this book. Every scene comes alive.

The narration too was done quite well. There is a good use of vocabulary done in this book.
The cover and the title are appropriately chosen keeping in mind the interest and curiosity of a reader.
The storyline was amazing  and captivating. The plot was fresh and strong enough to keep me gripped to the core while reading this book.  Pg. 21 of this book is a very well researched page!
Its a nice and fast paced read. Its hard to believe that its her debut novel.
The characters were very well developed.  Especially the character of Abbas.

The best part about it was that every victims life sketch is presented beautifully , topics such as rape, abuse, domestic violence etc. Are also described.
The only part wherein this book disappointed me a bit was when it took a slow pace towards the end.
Overall, this was a very interesting and a fantastic read. I really hope that they'll be a sequel to this book.

The story begins with the brutal mass murder of six people in a Mumbai café named Café Mehboob. The killer manages to slip away undetected. The media creates a frenzy and dubs the killings as, “Mehboob Murders.” Inevitably, there is political pressure on the police to solve the case on a priority basis.
The top cop assigned to investigate the case is Intekhaab Abbas, an introvert who shies away from publicity and attention. Abbas gets to work along with his team, though he is struggling with his demons from the past and relationship issues with his girlfriend Jennie.
Were the killings random or was a specific victim being targeted? As Abbas and his team investigate deeper, it transpires that each of the victims had a murky past. However hard they try, the police are unable to get a break in the case. At the same time, the pressure from the higher authorities to crack the case keeps mounting.
The author has described the city of Mumbai beautifully. Every character in the story is wonderfully etched. However, I wish that the author had been a lot more descriptive about Abbas and Jennie’s relationship, as a lot is hinted at, but not explained in detail.
Will Abbas get a brainwave and crack open the case? Or will the murderer get away scot free? The reader needs to read the book to find that out.
The story is well written and extremely interesting. If you are looking for a brisk paced and gripping read, I will certainly recommend this book to you. Based on the ending, I believe that the author has a sequel in mind. I for one am eagerly awaiting the sequel.

As a debut novel, the author has done a great job I must say. The story has many layers as it deals with six different lives from different backgrounds, along with the personal lives of Abbas and some others. The story continuously tosses between the aftermath of the murder and the back-stories, which makes it a really fascinating read. It was not at all boring; it will keep you guessing about the culprit along with Abbas till the very end when it will finally get revealed. Another aspect of the story that I really liked is that the author has kept the personal lives of the investigating team going along with those of the victims. The cityscapes of Mumbai have been described so beautifully that one would want to immediately travel to the place and enjoy the thrill.
The story kept me at the edge of the seat until the end and the revelation came obviously as a surprise. In a murder mystery, the shock factor plays an important and delicate role. It either makes the story or breaks it. In this case, there was the shock factor, even though the intensity decreased; the ending seemed a bit hurried. Nevertheless, I had a really fun time with this nail-biting thriller. The twists and turns were great. Overall, the author has done an impressive job in her debutant book. Murder mystery being one of my favourite genres, I really enjoyed it. All my best wishes to the author for her future books. I would definitely like to read more of her works in the future.
