One fateful night four years ago, Destiny Rose Porter gave in to her desires and ended up with a shattered heart. A heart that, with time, learned to heal and guard itself. But when Jefferson James Briggs returns to their small hometown of Wishing Well, Texas, memories of that unforgettable night come back with him....
JJ Briggs knew he had started something he couldn't finish four years ago. But now, he was back to set it right. The sexy Major League pitcher never forgot about his fiery redhead. The love and passion he felt for his “Pip” never faded.
They say old wounds cut deep...will JJ be able to heal the pain he caused all those years ago? Or will history repeat itself, keeping his Destiny just out of reach?
NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, heroes who are cinnamon rolls in the streets alpho-holes in the sheets, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.
ETA: I've decided I should be more specific to balance the emotional outburst of the rest of this review (which will remain unchanged). By the second time JJ left Destiny after an intimate encounter with accompanying complete radio silence I was done with that idiot. You just don't do that to people you like, even a little bit. The first time was worse as he left with a denigrating statement that said, in so many words, that Destiny wasn't good enough for him (and worse, he does so on the "it's for her own good" express ticket to jackweaselville). The second time, he just leaves after promising to "talk" and then just doing sex, instead—leaving her in the emotional tailspin of wondering what she did wrong and why he didn't like her after their night of "intimacy" and "connection". At that point, I don't care about his motivations. He's figuratively punching Destiny in the face for his own emotional gratification. And when he returns and deliberately provokes a fight (because apparently, in jackweaselville any reaction is better than indifference)? Yeah, completely done with this tiny-hearted, emotionally abusive jerkwad. --------------- JJ is a moron. A jerky jerk-face jackweasel with the romantic impulses of a five year-old. Seriously, Destiny was better off with stalker-boy Brody than JJ the flaming bag of toxic slime. You know who treats people they care about with that much calculated indifference? Supervillains. And Politicians. Maybe doped up axe-murderers. People who are unfamiliar with the concept of "mothers". That's who.
Destiny should get a restraining order on this slimehat. And maybe one for Brody too, while she's at it. I mean seriously. Wishing Well, Texas has the highest per capita incidence of machismo poisoning found in fiction...
I am OVERJOYED that this author duo now has books coming out in AUDIOBOOKS! I loved this book by the way. It was a story of second chances and how it’s not always easy to admit you may have done things wrong the first time but you're more than willing to get it right the second time. I love a story like this it makes me feel all the emotions and heartbreak they both felt from their before story and all the love and triumph of their now story.
Destiny is a pretty great character with a great head on her shoulders and I loved Virginia Rose’s performance of her. JJ’s voice was Aiden Snow and if you have ever listened to a book by him then you know, YOU KNOW how good his voice is. ;)
If you want a sweet romance with some great steamy scenes this is for you!
Plot: Destiny is getting ready to open her dream bakery in her hometown when suddenly her childhood crush and one-time almost-love shows back up. JJ is a famous ball player now, and she doesn't know why he's back in town, acting like he didn't abandon her the night of her prom. He abandoned her, never looked back, never contacted her, and never explained. But he's back now and will stop at nothing to earn her forgiveness and her love.
Commentary: The three stars were only because it was adequately written, had a plot that made sense, and was a good introduction to the series. Other than that, I was really irritated the whole time. Well, I hated JJ. He was about as dumb as they come. He left Destiny with no explanation on the night of her prom. Then he came back and she forgave him I guess. They spend an amazing night together and he leaves before she wakes up - with no explanation. He thinks his plan was good and she'll understand - he was just trying to get all his ducks in a row before he came back to her for good. Even his mom is amazed at his stupidity. He stays away for a month this time and says "Honestly, it had taken every ounce of self-control not to call her, text her, message her, or get in touch with her in some way to tell her that she was all I could think about." There is no reason he couldn't just call her. It was his own stupidity thinking that he needed to formally end his career before he "claimed her." He said that all the arguing and teasing was foreplay. I disagree. He thought it was cute, but I don't think Destiny thought so. She was perpetually heartbroken by him. Once again, he let her down. Once again, he left her with no word. Once again, she was the one who had to forgive and forget.
Also, I hated that he left her (again, with no explanation) and stayed away for four years, spending time and having sex with all kinds of women but of course he "hadn't been able to get her out of my head." Of course. She was your one true love, and that must be why you had sex with all those other women instead of just calling Destiny and explaining why you left and how much you loved her. That's why you came back home and instead of explaining why you left, you spent all your time "teasing" her. I found the whole thing just mean and stupid. He was selfish and she let him walk all over her. Still, it wasn't her fault. He was self-centered - no, more like oblivious than anything. He had an idea about what he wanted to do so he did it without considering anyone else's feelings. I liked the rest of this series -fluffy filler that requires no thinking - a palate cleanser of sorts. But this one made me mad.
Blurb: One fateful night four years ago, Destiny Rose Porter gave in to her desires and ended up with a shattered heart. A heart that, with time, learned to heal and guard itself. But when Jefferson James Briggs returns to their small hometown of Wishing Well, Texas, memories of that unforgettable night come back with him....

They say old wounds cut deep...will JJ be able to heal the pain he caused all those years ago? Or will history repeat itself, keeping his Destiny just out of reach?
Teasing Destiny…I can’t remember who recommended this book or why I picked it up, but I did. I will say, however, this is not my typical read. It is not a clean read (and therefore will not be reviewed on my blog – because while I’ve been quite for a few months, I do want to continue to maintain a relatively clean, family friendly blog world where I can allow my pre-teens and teenagers to review if they would like).
What I Liked: I love small town, first love romances, and that is probably why I picked up the book to begin with. I enjoyed the attraction between Destiny and JJ. JJ’s constant teasing and Destiny’s sarcasm really helped with this, as it was its own kind of mating dance. But more than our main characters, I loved the matriarch figures in this story. Destiny’s grandma was feisty and tricksy. I totally would have loved to know her in real life. JJ’s mom was just so calm and collected, but she seemed to have that mom-patience worked down to a T. I really wish we could have seen more of them.
Not So Much: While I can see where JJ learned the error of his ways, I feel like he was such a jerk to Destiny. I lost a bit of respect for him that I never really gained back. I would have liked to have seen more of their outside life (the bakery and the training center) played out in the story as well. I kind of felt like we got a lot of face time with JJ and Destiny, which is great – but beyond their tunnel vision things seemed kind of part and partial I guess. The ending (epilogue)…was a little abrupt and almost a bit cliché to me, kind of like we rushed through to give everyone everything…but the timing was crazy.
The Verdict: This made for a quick passionate read. Again, not my norm and not clean. My rating reflects that – I simply got a hold of a book that sucked me into its characters, but really isn’t as ‘my style’ as I’d hoped.
Teasing Destiny is a the first book in the new Wishing Well series by Melanie Shawn. Destiny has had a crush on JJ since she was twelve. Her crush turned to love fairly quickly but since he was 4 years older, JJ had to curb his want for Destiny while she grow up.
Although she stayed in this small town, Destiny dreamed big. Destiny never gave up her hope on owning her own bakery and getting the man of her dreams. She was sweet and never hesitate to help those she loved. She also seemed more mature than her years.
JJ is back in town recovering from a sports injury. He's coming to the realization that retirement is close but he's ok with that. He's got a plan in place to win Destiny's heart but leaves her unaware of his intentions. Her lack of knowledge on this subject caused the most angst between this couple. There were several times I wanted to reach into their story and shake JJ. I felt that he toyed with her emotions too often.
The small town lifestyle add to the humor and charm of Teasing Destiny. I'm looking forward to read about the other characters in this new series.
I've loved every single book put out by the fantastic sister duo Melanie Shawn. This book was no different. It is the first book in what I hope will be a long series. Destiny, Harmony, and Cara are lifelong friends and dubbed "Charlie's Angels." Destiny has been in love with Harmony's older brother JJ since she was little. JJ always had strong feelings for her as well, but never acted on them due to their age difference. At least not until he returns home for Fourth of July weekend. They hook up and everything changes from that moment on. I loved the story and cannot wait to read the rest.
**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
"Teasing Destiny" is written by Melanie Shawn, and it is the first book in the Wishing Well Texas series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features professional baseball player JJ Briggs and Destiny Rose Porter.
First off, I had no idea JJ and Destiny were part of a novella prior to the release of this book! I need to go read it now! But back to this story, it was such a fun, delightful book to read! I was constantly laughing at this duo. And they were hot!
JJ regretted leaving Destiny 4 years ago, but he never forgot his "Pip." Now, he's back in Wishing Well. It's not a mini vacation while he's rehabbing from an injury. He's back permanently to be with his family and friends -- and namely, because of Destiny.
Destiny has always had a crush on JJ. But she was so hurt by him leaving all those years ago. She's going to stand her ground and not give in to him! But how can she resist his charms? JJ is determined to woo her and romance her! How will she feel when she realizes he's leaving baseball behind?
Seriously, I loved this book! There were so many scenes that made me smile and laugh. One in particular was how JJ knew about all of Destiny's past boyfriends. It drove Destiny nuts how he knew!
Melanie and Shawna definitely hit a homerun with "Teasing Destiny"! As a reader, you couldn't have asked for a better start for a series! Definitely looking forward to reading the next installments in this series!
OMG!! I could not even start this book right!! I have no idea what the author was thinking when she wrote this!! Just because it’s set in the south DOESN’T mean that she had to use so much figurative language. In chapter 1 alone there were at least 16 phrases like:
“That boy can strut sitting down”
“Slow as molasses in January”
“You don’t have the sense the good lord gave a goose”
“My cheeks burning like asphalt on a scorching hot day”
“That man is dumber than a sack of rocks and more stubborn than a mule”
“He’s lazier than a pet coon”
“Wouldn’t give two hoots and a howler”
“Deeper than the ocean and smoother than butter”
“My stomach did so many flips and flops that you’da thought it was a politician during an election year”
What?!?! Before you get on me, let me just say that I’ve lived in Texas for over 30 years. Jeez, does she really think that’s how everyone talks here?! I was so annoyed that I couldn’t continue after page 16. If the rest of the book was going to be like this, I wasn’t going to make it.
Was so excited to see this new series starting by Melanie Shawn, and Teasing Destiny gets it off to a fantastic start!
Destiny is the type of heroine who you would want as your best friend. Loves big, loyal, and will be there through thick and thin. JJ is yummy, but always putting his foot in his mouth when it comes to Destiny. I loved the bickering and bantering that went on between these two. It added so much to the sexual tension that was already between these two. It was awesome getting to meet the new characters of this series, and seeing how the chemistry is between each of them.
If you are looking for a great read that will have you cracking up and wanting more, you definitely need to one click this!
A wonderful start to a new series by Melanie Shawn. Teasing Destiny is first in the Wishing Well, Texas series. I have a hard time reading books told in first person sometimes, but this one was really well done. Destiny may be 22-years old, but she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. JJ is a few years older than her, but after playing professional baseball, he's ready to come home. A great story about second chances, with plenty of witty banter and sexy times thrown in. Looking forward to more in the Wishing Well series.
I didn’t finish because I was so bored and the story made no sense. He has no beef with his family but doesn’t see them for four years? He goes down on her on prom night and then leaves her right after saying she’s too young. She’s so hurt and angry but doesn’t even make it a day before she’s letting him kiss her and then they’re having sex by the evening of day two. Do you think the author is able to write sexual tension? No. So it’s guy gets what he wants when he wants and girl gives in because she doesn’t respect herself. Formulaic , not romantic and really boring. But in saying that I know others will eat this little book up so because it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever read - RECOMMEND.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with this book or storyline except I just didn't feel anything amazing, mind blowing or emotional. It was like eating a textbook presented dish that is a little on the bland side in taste. But all-in-all, still very edible and does the job to fill you up.
Told in dual first person POV and is a standalone novel in a series. I can already guess what's in store for the secondary character's upcoming books and although I'm not pee'ing in my pants to read it, I will definitely look into them one day.
I think my main problem with this book is that Destiny is a complete doormat. She basically allows JJ to treat her like sh*t without ever truly getting mad at him. She is supposedly this "spitfire," yet she lets him walk all over her with no repercussions. JJ never seems to really feel guilty for his behavior and brushes it off with an easy smile and some southern charm - but who can really blame him when she never expresses how badly he hurt her.
Sweet, fun, totally romantic....LOVED it!!! Sparks fly with Destiny & JJ from the very beginning - Couldn't put this one down!! Quick moving, sexy first book in a new series from Melanie Shawn....You know it's gonna be amazing!!!
This was a good read. Destiny and JJ have had it bad for each other as long as anyone can remember. He comes home and things between them get messy. Thankfully, in the end everything works out for them, and they get their happy ending.
Perhaps I would have liked this if the characters were a bit different because the actual writing is fine, but I just couldn't get past the fact that JJ is such a jerkoff.
JJ comes back to his hometown in order to "claim" the woman he says he's always loved, Destiny. Of course, he was sooooo in love with her, but it didn't stop him from being a total manwhore through college and while he was playing professional sports.
When he returns, Destiny is wary of him, and we learn that he had stepped in as her prom date four years ago. They had messed around that night, and then he laughed at her and said there could never be anything between them.
He confesses later that he did it because at the time Destiny had only just turned 18 and he was 24. He felt guilty and that what they did was wrong. Annnnnd fair enough. Why on Earth did he let it get that far, though? Then it gets even worse, and we find out that he had kissed her (no tongue thank goodness) when she was 12 and he was 18 during a game of spin the bottle, and that's when he "fell in love with her".
I'm not sure exactly what the author was going for, but this was not a cute beginning of a relationship, it was creepy, creepy, creepy.
And even though they're both reasonable ages for a relationship now, JJ never stops being a dick. They hook up, and then he gives her radio silence for a month because he's afraid if he talks to her, he won't be able to do what he needs to do to leave his baseball career the right way.
Then there's the paternity scare he doesn't seem upset about or bother to tell Destiny about either.
What really drove me nuts, though, was that JJ always talks about Destiny as if she's still a child. He likes teasing her. He thinks she looks cute when she gets mad. It's just so gross, especially knowing he was first attracted to her when she was 12.
I also didn't like that
I would probably read something else by the author just to see if JJ is a one-off douche canoe, but I wasn't a fan of this one.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["img"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I rated this book 2.5 stars, was almost a DNF, and only given this rating due to the last 20%. I struggle to understand all of the 5 star reviews.
This book is the worst. It's filled with all the things that piss me off. I HATE when the MMC takes pleasure out of the MFC being mad or annoyed "she's so cute when she's mad". No!
I absolutely hate when the MFC has been wronged and is justifiably mad at the MMC but can't possibly be mad when the MMC is around because the sexual attraction overrides everything. This is SO frustrating AND infuriating AND unrealistic.
I also hate when the MMC has been a stupid jerk, and EVERY character is rooting for him. Why? He was a stupid jerk.
Honestly, JJ did do Destiny wrong 4 years previous after he took her to prom. Even though his actions were awful, I did understand... a little. He had been a total jerk, but the age difference and life changes made it SOMEWHAT understandable. However, when he came back after 4 years of ZERO contact barged back into her life and totally ditched her AGAIN for a whole month of no contact and expected to mosey on back like nothing was just too much for me. I need some MAJOR freaking grovel and apologies. What I don't need is the MFC melting, all shaky legged at the freaking site of the man who keeps wronging her. Grow a freaking backbone. What I don't need is family "matchmaking" when this idiot needs to make some amends. I get the author gave him his reasons, and he continually said he was messing things up, but still!!
Also, JJ literally hadn't talked to Destiny for 4 years, spends a weekend essentially stalking her, sleeps with her 1 night, and already wants to marry her. He doesn't even know her, and she doesn't even know him. He's literally been gone "living his best life" her entire adult life.
The last 20% of this book was the only redeeming part. Here, we FINALLY find JJ answering the tough questions and FINALLY see much less of the simpering weak MFC. Yes, they seemed to love eachother, yes the MMC was not a total jerk, but I can't say that the last 20% of this book made up for the total wreck of the first 80%.
Destiny has been in love with JJ her whole life. JJ has been in love with Destiny since she was a teen however, after JJ leaves Destiny broken hearted one fateful night Destiny has convinced herself that she has moved on from JJ until he returns to Wishing Well Texas ready to make a play for her heart.
Wishing Well is my new favorite small town series! I would rank it right up there with Lucky Harbor, Fools Gold, Virgin River, and Hope Falls. I’m going to toss my quarter in the well and wish for at least 6 more books after the other two Melanie and Shawna already have planned.
I loved JJ and Destiny it’s was so touching to read about the ups and downs of their past and to see them come together to find their happily ever after. My favorite part about Destiny is her sarcastic humor and holds no prisoners attitude. If she thinks it, she says it and everything she says was so funny. More than once I was laughing out loud in public and drew some curious looks. JJ captured my heart from the beginning, you could feel his love and devotion to Destiny he just needed some time to heal past hurts and fumble around a bit. Now for 100% honesty the quotes from Grandma Dixie at the start of each chapter were absolutely priceless and should be made into one of those daily quote calendars. Grandma Dixie is a supporting character but every time she makes an appearance in the book she steals the show.
I have read every book Melanie and Shawna have written and I think this might be my favorite of all of them. Although that is like picking a favorite kid, it’s really impossible to do. I also really loved the way they wove in some of the characters from their popular Crossroads series as they are some of my favorite characters and I love getting another peak into their lives. If this is your first Melanie Shawn book than be prepared to fall in love with not only this story but I guarantee once you will finish you will immediately one click all of their other amazing books.
I'm so excited that Melanie Shawn has a new series called the "Wishing Well".
In this book JR Briggs has a history of winding up Destiny and high tailing it out of town. JJ doesn't mean to leave Destiny in these situations there's a reason in his mind to justify it. Destiny has been in love with JJ since she was little girl but it all became apparent to her when she was 12 and JJ almost 18. JJ has never been one to talk about his feelings back then and it certainly didn't help that Destiny was so young. Destiny has been trying to figure out JJ for the past years and come up with logical explanation as to why JJ acts the way he does. The only thing she knows is that JJ drives her crazy but at the same she can't help but love him. It's one of those relationships were the person drives you insane but you just can't help but love them like crazy. That's what JJ and Destiny have. The banter that they have is so cute and relate able as well. Can we talk about how sexy JJ is?! *swoon* I loved how Melanie referenced one of her characters from a different series "Crossroads" Jessie and Zach. I love it when she does that. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next book in the series. I'm hoping it's about Cara and I have a feeling I know who will be her love interest. I hope I'm right! I'm big fan of Melanie Shawn and all her books. This first book in the series doesn't disappoint at all and worth the read. I highly recommend this book! It's a fun, sexy and Melanie's writing style is on point. Loved it!!!
The story is scorching hot, fun, full of small town lively energy, and so romantic, with constantly swoon worthy moments that make you sigh... The connection JJ and Destiny have is undeniable, the ribbing between them is entertaining, the understanding of each other, trust, and desire is rare and raw. The story is told in first person point of view, by both Destiny and JJ. Even though that is not my favorite POV in the books, the author has done, once again, an amazing job with it, giving a deep, insightful, and honest view to the thoughts and hopes of the lovers, as they are trying to find the road to each others arms, the forever kind of way. The honesty between them is so fresh, complete, and true. And that road is not as easy as one would think, but they both know what they want, they both are not afraid to go after it, and after several clumsy attempts, they seem to have found the correct path, until the next roadblock. The emotions are so strong, the will is unwavering. I loved watching these two grow, and get deep into their love, desires, feelings, and affections. The characters of the small town are humorous and delightful, Grandma Dixie is so charming. Like always in Melanie Shawn's stories, the friends are the true, there for you, the kinds you want to call your BFF, and spent the lifetime with, sharing joy, sorrow, and laughter. Great start for the new series, I am looking forward to more of sweet, sexy, and scrumptious stories from Wishing Well, Texas! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
Melanie Shawn has been one of my favorite authors since I was introduced to her Crossroads Series and then the Hope Falls Series. Now we are being introduced to yet another fabulous series, the Wishing Well, Texas books and let me tell you this one starts off with a bang, with a capital SEXY! I thoroughly enjoyed "seeing" some character reappearances from her other series and continue on in their stories as well.
I can't say it enough, the Melanie Shawn duo amazes with every book they come out with and they just keep getting better and better! I have always been enamored with her characters and story lines. This love story was so heartfelt and sexy and I just melted throughout the book with every page turn. I definitely didn't want it to end, like most every book I read in these series. I loved the story-building in this book. I also again have to complement the chemistry and crazy heat, all the things that make Melanie Shawn's books so amazing. I loved this set of main characters, and can't wait to see more character depth of other characters (Cara & Harmony) as the series continues. Melanie Shawn has an ability to keep readers engaged in the story. They make you want to live with these people and be friends with them. All of Melanie's books always have the perfect blend of romance, sex and plot and this book kept me chuckling and laughing throughout!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I am a huge fan of Melanie Shawn and was thrilled to be gifted an ARC copy of this book.
This is the first in a new series...set in Wishing Well TX. The story is filled with fun characters..especially Grandma Dixie who took care of Destiny when she became an orphan as a young child, and Cara & Harmony.. the other two in the trio of friends known as the "Angels."
Destiny is a spunky, sarcastic heroine who has been in love with JJ Briggs since she was a young girl. He left town years ago and left her with a broken heart. Imagine her surprise when who walks into the diner but the one and only object of her unrequited love,.. the very same JJ Briggs!! Sparks fly and the fun begins. JJ wants to make up for his past mistakes but will Destiny let down her guard and trust him with her heart?
I don't want to spoil the story but I found myself laughing out loud ...especially when Destiny "spell cusses" in her head! And there were tender moments such as when Cara deals with her medical diagnosis. I enjoyed this visit to Wishing Well and am hoping that my wish for more books in this series will come true.
Melanie Shawn is one of my favorite authors, so I was excited to know that they had a new series coming and the first book in the Wishing Well, Texas series did not disappoint!
We originally met JJ and Destiny in a novella in the Pink Shades of Words anthology and while that was fantastic, the full length story was that much better! Friends all of their lives, these two have fought their feelings for one another for longer than each of them even realized. In their small town of Wishing Well, gossip flies fast, friends are as loyal as you'll find and the chemistry between these two is undeniable!
With JJ playing professional baseball and Destiny still in Wishing Well, do they have a chance or will they both just continue to suffer from unrequited love? This story engaged me from the outset and the fact I finished it in a day is a testament to the great story put together by Melanie Shawn. I'm super excited to see where this series goes and I'm looking forward to Cara's book!
Teasing Destiny is my absolute favorite book by Melanie Shawn to date! I haven't laughed and swooned more in a book in I don't remember how long. Their writing style is so fun, playful and perfect I found myself smiling on every page. The southern "twang" had to be one of my favorite parts. And I almost spit my drink out every time I read lines like "I had more voices in my head than Kim Kardashian had selfies." The book is full of moments like these that are impossible not to laugh out loud at.
JJ and Destiny were destined (see what I did there!?) to be together. It was meant to be from the beginning. And watching them come together was both sweet and hot all rolled into one fun time. I couldn't have loved either of these characters more. Hot chemistry, playfulness, friendship - all factors for a great couple. And not to be outdone, meeting Grandma Dixie was a highlight for me in this story. She took the story from great to fantastic! ;) Loved her and her fiesty-ness!
Such a fun, lighthearted, swoon-worthy, full of love read. You're going to love it!
One fateful night, four years ago, Destiny Rose Porter gave in to her desires and ended up with a shattered heart. A heart that, with time, learned to heal and guard itself. But when Jefferson James Briggs returns to their small hometown of Wishing Well, Texas, memories of that unforgettable night come back with him. JJ Briggs knew he started something he couldn't finish four years ago. But now, he was back to set it right. The sexy Major League pitcher never forgot about his fiery redhead. The love and passion he felt for his “Pip” never faded.
Destiny is much younger than JJ and he often forgets when he is around her. His attraction to her is magnetic and all consuming. Destiny thinks she can not find "the one" for her after her broken heart when JJ left suddenly and no contact in years. JJ knows what he wants, Destiny, but both have a difficult time communicating with one another.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Not sure how this ended up on my kindle, but it was deep-fried adorable.
It's a contemporary romance set in Texas and as sugary as good sweet tea. Plenty of "aw shucks, ma'am" and perky Texas girl-power. The storyline wasn't revolutionary and neither character was breaking ground, but I couldn't put this down.
For starters I live in the Dirty South, and after a thousand romances set in Boston or NY it's nice to read about jeans and boots and big ole trucks. Plus Destiny (I know right!) and JJ were yummy like fried chicken and corn bread.
At times it was a little over the top with the hap-hap-happy, but sometimes that's a blessing (particularly when Harry Potter is just flat-out depressing). I think I'll read the next book in the series when I'm lookin for some guaranteed feel-good (with only a pinch of the eye-rolls and "give me a damn break"s). The damn book referenced Flo from Alice - who is strong enough to resist kissed-grits? Not this girl - that's fo sho.
