Is your life what you thought it was going to be? Do you ever find yourself comparing the story of the life you wished you had lived with the life you are actually living? Each of us has a story that we tell ourselves about ourselves. Becoming aware of our inner narrative is crucial, because the story we tell ourselves, both consciously and unconsciously, has tremendous power over our thoughts, feelings, and actions. In many ways, this story defines our lives. In Re-Creating a Learning How to Tell Our Most Life-Giving Story, Dr. Diane Millis shows us how to author a new story for our lives. This book demonstrates the power of community by offering a toolkit for deep listening to one another’s stories.Learn how to re-create your life by re-creating the story you tell yourself about it.Develop your capacity to author a story to which you are drawn and learn how to help others do the same.
Do you have a group of trusted friends? Are you a small group facilitator/retreat leader? You may find this book useful. Diane Millis has given us a deceptively simple book with which to journal re-frame our lives so memories become a source of energy and joy. In each chapter Dr. Millis tells a piece of her life story, reframes it, and then offers questions to guide the reader's own self-discovery. I found her stories distracting and if it were my book, the appendices would have come first because I appreciate structure. AND - I read this book with a group facilitated by a person who had worked with Dr. Millis and the process WAS life-giving. So 3 stars because this is not for everyone. 5 if you appreciate group Spiritual Direction.
