Back On The Block

Rate this book
Recy Clark is back in her old neighborhood and she’s even more bitter than when she left. The news that her foster mother, Ms. Joanne Banks, has been brutally murdered, has forced her to return to the place that she’s been trying so hard to forget. For the past five years, she’s been trying to get her life together, but now that she’s back on the block, she’s going to have to face her demons again. Jonathan Jones, now a husband, father, and respected police officer, is haunted with the thoughts that the hidden truth may be revealed with the return of Recy Clark. He tries to act as though everything is business as usual, but Recy holds a secret that could tear apart everything he holds dear. David Blackwell was less than thrilled to find out that his childhood friend, Jonathan Jones, is suddenly patrolling the drug-infested streets that he controls. As the news of Joanne Banks’ murder hits the streets, evidence is mounting that he’s the main suspect. But David didn’t do it, because murder is bad for business. If he didn’t, who did? Can he live long enough to find out the truth before his friend destroys his lucrative drug empire?

This was a really fast one, a pretty good too. I always get a little nervous when reading a new author because there are so many out there that really know how to write- especially with urban-lit. I think Felicia Madlock will be around for awhile though because this kept be interested the whole time. It's left open for part 2 which I always like if it was interesting enough. The main characters are Reese Clark who is a recovering addict, Jamal is an ex of hers (her sisters ex and baby's father also) and David. There are a bunch of small twists that were all easy to follow with the exception of maybe two or three instances where I was kind of lost for a moment. They weren't anywhere near big enough for me to stop reading though and I'm really looking forward to part 2 now.

I’ll make a list.
* The reviews on here lead me to believe that this was a good book . this is probably the first time that I could not trust the reviews on Goodreads.
1. This book literally is not about what it says on the back or in the synopsis!
2. It was all over the place with so many different characters and so much happening that I was under the impression that all of these events are taking place over maybe two or three weeks not six months!
3. Whatever happened with Tracy ? She was one of the main reasons for Reese coming back and they just forgot all about her.
4. This book had no right to be 43 chapters long and be so messy and make no sense and be all over the place the way that it was !
5. I’m very glad I only paid $1 for this book

The first half of the book was thoughtfully written but by the last half it felt rushed. Everything was jammed to the last part of the book. Overall interesting plot but so-so writing near the end.
