Restoring Heritage #1

You Belong with Me

Rate this book
Realtor Hannah Thornton has many talents. Unfortunately, selling houses in the town where her family name is practically poison isn't one of them. When a business tycoon determines to raze historic homes in the small town of Heritage, Michigan, and replace them with a strip mall, Hannah resolves to stop him. She sets about helping Heritage win a restoration grant that will put the town back on the map--and hopefully finally repay the financial debt Hannah's mother caused the town. But at first no one supports her efforts--not even her best friend, Luke.

Luke Johnson may have grown up in Heritage, but as a foster kid he never truly felt as if he belonged. Now he has a chance to score a job as assistant fire chief and earn his place in the town. But when the interview process and Hannah's restoration project start unearthing things from his past, Luke must decide if belonging is worth the pain of being honest about who he is--and who he was.

I have been writing fiction for more than twelve years. It has been an exciting journey for this math-loving-dyslexic girl. I had read less than a handful of novels by the time I graduated from college and I thought I would end up in the field of science or math. But God had other plans and I wouldn't trade this journey for anything. As someone told me once, God's plans may not be easy, and they may not always make sense but they are never boring.

In addition to my writing, I also work for My Book Therapy as a special project project manager and write for LearnHowToWriteAnNovel.com and you can find me blogging over there on occasion.

When I am not writing or working, I spend time with my amazing husband. We have been married for fifteen wonderful years and have three sweet children. In my free time, I love coffee, rock hounding with my husband and kids, and distracting myself from housework.

I feel like this debut novel had a ton of potential, but it also had a lot going on! This story followed 4 people, 2 couples, but also had some love triangle-ish drama and a ton of different plot points. Honestly, I think it would have been much better if it just focused on Hannah and Luke. I would try another book by this author in the future even though this one was just okay!

Oh my!
This is the author's first full length book.
What a fun book it was too read, it's rather swoon worthy.
You're gong to find small town closeness of families here and a few relationship dramas along the way. When the couples finally get it together and are with the person they are meant to be with it's so harmonious. Heritage is a small town you'd love to live in, it may be a little run down but family values are strong here. Hannah and Luke have the most adorable relationship. I just LOVED this book!
Can't forget about Otis, the hippo what an addition to the story.
I absolutely can not wait to read the next book in the story!

I normally enjoy stories like this, but I was stressed out reading this one. I think the situations the four main characters were in seemed hopeless and they were unhappy, full of angst, and didn't have a sense of humor. Hannah and Luke's stalled romance was blamed on each other, and I was confused for much of the book why their dynamic was the way it was. Thomas and Janie were the same way- there is tons of past history alluded to but the reader is kept in the dark for much of it and I was just frustrated with them all. I wanted to sit them all down and tell them to just open their eyes and communicate. Although, that wouldn't make for much of a story then. I just think they were all wound too tightly for me to truly enjoy. A good dose of humor would have gone a long way for me in balancing the vibe of the book.

{{Note: I won’t be doing a full content review because it’s not one I would recommend for ages 9-19 (the ages I review for) because of all of the heavy kissing and physical attraction, but will list some main content below. }}

Oh, y’all, I really wanted to like this book. And not just because of the floral spine. (Okay, partially because of the floral spine.) ((Okay, mostly because of the floral spine.))
But I was seriously Stressed for the majority of the book. 😩

Here’s the thing, unrequited love can be cute to read—if it only lasts a little bit of the book and then after half of the couple realizes they like the other half, it’s all cute and happy and nice. But when it’s both sides of the couple and them not being together because they won’t communicate? When it takes over 50% of the book? And then they still keep things from the other? Oh my blood pressure is rising.

If you ignore all the detailed kisses, ridiculously major lack of communication, and me wanting to smack Hannah most of the time, it was a decent book. However, those three things made up to at least 80% of the book in total. Actually, probably more like 90%. In all honesty, this was an easy read and a fine writing style, but I do think I could have read this one fast because I needed them to get with it or I was going to lose it.

Good parts:
-Foster care awareness
-Great faith content and discussions (by Nate)
-Beautiful spine (leave me alone, it perfectly matches my aesthetic and I’m still sad)

Parts I didn’t like:
-Physical attraction based romance (personality? What personality?)
-Major lack of communication and keeping things “for the other’s good”
-Lying
-Heavy and long kisses (including an engaged man nearly kissing another woman)
-Talks about sleeping around and also not doing that
-The assumptions everyone made because they.wouldn’t.talk.
-Third-act breakup & running away (the word “buffoons” comes to mind)
-The characters acting like they’re still in high school (both side characters and main characters — it was ridiculous)
-Hannah (yes, just her entirely. I can’t. Anytime I was thinking she would get better, she did yet another stupid thing or jump to a conclusion that could have been solved with just talking)

I’ll admit that this book hit me in the feels—both in good ways (with Luke’s story) and anger ways (with mainly the lack of communication). So take that how you will.

I get that in 3/4 of the main characters, they’ve stepped away from God and that’s very obviously affected what in the world they’re doing (Hannah even thinks about this at one point) but the sneaking around and keeping things just made me upset to see. I was desperate for some character development (and to whack a few characters over the head with a shoe, if we’re being bluntly honest) and it took (what felt like) forever to get there (it starts about 55% but still takes a lot of time).

On that note, we (the reader) are left out on a lot of backstories, but I thought it was pretty easy to figure out a general idea of what happened. But again, communication. It’s none of these four characters’ strength.

Luke, well, he needed to communicate, obviously, as well, but his backstory and not feeling like he belonged anywhere was what kept me into the story because I just wanted him to be happy—even if that was with Hannah, I suppose. Honestly, my jury’s out on her still because she drove me absolutely batty at most of the times. (To be fair, she didn’t endear herself to me when she started noticing his abs at only twenty-two pages in.)

I really wanted to like this book because of this series has literally the prettiest spine I’ve ever seen (which unfortunately does not make up for the cover for me, I’m so sorry; it’s Hallmark level cheese), but I’m so sad. :(

I could so easily just write off this book because I liked the ending (well, when it was in Luke’s parts, at least) but this book was a bit like a train wreck. The faith content was great and by far the best parts, but I just can’t ignore the heavy kissing and other content concerns.

Main Content-
There’s a lot of steamy kissing, almost kissing, and recalling kisses (some over a page long in describing); Also an engaged man nearly kisses another girl (this is about 2-3 paragraphs long); Touches, Embraces, Warmth, Smelling, & Noticing are all very common and ranging up to semi-detailed (including mentions of Hannah noticing Luke’s abs and low rise jeans and Luke noticing Hannah’s legs); Hannah walks in on Luke changing shirts (up to semi-detailed); A woman tries to tempt her fiancé into staying the night and sleeping with her (by sitting on his lap and showing off and pushing her cleavage to him; she knows what she’s doing to him; it is in his point of view and he’s being tempted before they have a discussion on him waiting to wait); A flirty guy that won’t talk no for an answer and is know for having flings; Mentions of infertility & trying to have kids; Mentions of cleavage and women showing it off; Mentions of dates & dating; A mention of guys only thinking about one thing; A mention of a harem;

Hannah & Luke both keep things from the other and go behind the other’s back for “their own good”; No major language used, ‘godforsaken’ is used for a place (twice), ‘hot’ and ‘sexy’ are used up to a few times each; There’s a lot of pettiness from side characters that felt straight out of high school; A fire, being trapped in one, pain, & injuries (up to semi-detailed); Mentions of a kidnapping & custody problems after a divorce; Mentions of fires; Mentions of a physically abusive father & him almost drunk driving; Mentions of movies, songs, actors, brand names, etc.

Talks and discussions about God, His plans, & different people and event from the Bible; Hannah, Luke, Thomas, and Janie all are struggling or mad at God for whatever reason they each have; Mentions of God and those from the Bible.

I was ready for a really good fairy tale. Who doesn't like a good ole fairy tale.
Restoring Heritage series is going to be the best. With this new voice in Christian fiction we now have something to look forward to.
I can't wait for you all to read Luke and Hannah's story. Real life, imperfect characters. They make this story a fun fast read.
I gave this book 4 stars and I hope you all enjoy Faris' writing as much as I did.

This is such a fun, feel good book with real, likable characters in a small town atmosphere where everyone knows each other and gives their support when it is needed. Heritage, Michigan is dying a slow death but Hannah Thornton wants to do something to save it. In fact, Hannah feels the need to fix her friend, Luke, but he doesn't want to be fixed. The two have been friends since middle school and even came close to being more but something happened. Both have backgrounds that have caused them pain. Hannah's mom left her family after stealing ten thousand dollars from the city of Heritage. Luke grew up in foster care after his father died in an accident. Luke always wanted a family and felt inferior because he didn't have one. Both care for each other but just can't seem to get it together because of lack of communication and making assumptions without knowing the whole story. Will they make it? Is there more to Luke's background than anyone knows?
Hannah's brother Thomas broke off with his girlfriend Janie a year ago. She just returned from six months in Paris but Thomas is engaged to someone else. Thomas has a secret that caused him to break up with Janie. What will happen to them?
Tari Faris has a great new author and I look forward to reading more about the wonderful characters of Heritage. Pastor Nate is a great mentor at just the right time to everyone who seems to need to hear his GP or "grace points" and biblical stories. Expect romance, funny times, life choices with faith threaded through and God moments. And an ending that brings on a smile.
I received a complimentary ARC from Revell through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

Tari Faris has been writing fiction for over twelve years, but You Belong With Me, releasing September 3 with Revell Books, marks her publishing debut. And I have to say, all in all, it's a pretty solid debut!

You Belong With Me is book one in the Restoring Heritage series, and is a contemporary romance set in the small fictional town of Heritage, Michigan. Honestly, as a native Michigander, that is the main reason I chose to read this book. Small town on the shores of Lake Michigan? I'm in! From the details Faris uses to describe the town and area, you can tell the author has spent a fair amount of time in the Great Lakes state, and I loved the authentic portrayal of my home state.

Amidst the small-town backdrop, Faris writes relatable characters who are far from perfect. I loved the small-town vibes the whole book portrayed with its relatively large cast of characters. Hannah and Luke were well-rounded main characters, and I greatly enjoyed the inclusion of a secondary couple, Janie and Thomas's story, although that makes this book a bit different than your standard romance.

Speaking of romance, that's where this book loses a star for me. The physical attraction and love triangles between the characters got to be a bit much for my tastes, and I found myself rolling my eyes and skimming in some areas.

However, one thing I really love about Faris's writing is that she always includes strong Christian themes in her stories. Often, that subject gets lost in the romance of most books in this genre, even though they may be touted as Christian romance. But in Faris's stories, no matter what the struggles are, the characters always point each other back to God in the end.

All in all, Faris's incredibly relatable and readable writing style was very enjoyable and I loved delving deep into these characters' stories. It is clear this author has spent years honing her craft before jumping into the publishing world, for which I give her kudos. This book is well-rounded and polished to a shine! Overall, if you love a sweet contemporary romance with strong themes, definitely check this one out!

I’d been semi-avoiding this book because of the cover (I’m not big on romance) and because of a couple of reviews I’d seen, but a friend recommended I give it a try. I’m glad I listened to her! I ended up really enjoying this book!

Characters: Luke and Hannah were well-developed characters who could’ve been real people. They had flaws and made goofy (to say the least) decisions. I was yelling at them in my head a couple of times because I knew those decisions were going to backfire on them …

Language: Clean.

Moral: The main theme of this book was a Christian’s adoption into God’s family. I was actually impressed by how much Christian content was included in this book. A lot of the time, a few obligatory prayers make it in and not much else. I’m happy to report this book wasn’t like that at all.

Plot: Don’t let the cover fool you, this book is a lot more than a romance. Plenty of good conversations, dilemmas, discoveries, and character growth kept the plot moving. Luke and Hannah’s misunderstandings did get on my nerves, but I understand that had to be part of the plot. I’ll just scream at them silently… :)

Romance: Clean. A few kisses.

Writing: Tari Faris has a great style. I can’t believe this is her debut novel and am looking forward to reading the second book in the series!

Overall: You Belong with Me was a great (yes, I know I just used that word) read, and I’d recommend it to people who enjoy Christian fiction and contemporary romance.

‘When you’ve got nothing left, that’s when you see how real your faith is. Faith with everything you want is easy. But faith when everything goes wrong? That’s when God alone has to be enough.’
This was wonderful debut novel from Tari Faris! I loved everything about it. She took us to the small Michigan town of Heritage in her prequel novella, P.S. Goodbye, and that made me want to continue to read her work. I’ve just finished this one and now I want another already!
In all seriousness, Tari Faris is a wonderful and talented new voice in Christian fiction! These small town characters have dug deep into my heart and I’m going to let them stay. Her writing is fresh, full and just plain satisfying to this reader. With her heroine, Hannah, who wants to help everyone and is determined to see the town revitalized, and her hero, Luke, desperately wishing he belonged to someone, Faris sets the stage for a fulfilling read. She has crafted a solid romance (with a bonus one thrown in) and a strong spiritual thread that ministered to me. Well done! Highly recommended

I enjoyed this sweet story with its small town setting. You Belong With Me delved into what it truly means to leave traumatic events behind you, learn to trust others, and learn to trust God. I occasionally struggled with Hannah and Luke's inability to communicate effictively and their lack of trust in each other. Then, I realized that these two hurting people had both been emotionally injured by past abandonments. Even Thomas, Hannah's brother, carried his own torment around related to his mother's leaving his family so suddenly. The characters in this story had a lot to work through.

I'm really looking forward to reading more books in this series and enjoyed the introduction to this small community.

Solid contemporary romance debut!

While the main characters are Hannah and Luke, there are other story lines within the pages. Hannah is a realtor by choice, however, her true passion is keeping alive the historic elements of her home town of Heritage. Luke became a foster child at five and feels like he never measures up nor has found a home.

The ending was spectacular. I look forward to continuing the series.

This debut has a lot going on. From a fire to the mystery and reveal around Luke's past to recusing a dog and so on. Plus there were 2 love stories - the main one is between Hannah and Luke with the second one surrounding Hannah’s brother, Thomas.

Had the book been made into 2 books it would have helped spread out the storyline. Instead of having 2 love stories happening in this book, create another book that would have been about Hannah’s brother, Thomas, and his situation. And have You Belong With Me focus on Hannah and Luke's relationship. Thomas's story could be introduced to the readers in this book. Allowing the readers to catch a glimpse of him and his fiance and leave them wanting more of his story. Then in the next book, the readers could learn how he ended up engaged to a woman that wasn’t his OTL.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts. Since this is a debut novel I'd be willing to read another book by this author to see how the author hones her writing.

From the moment I heard about You Belong With Me by Tari Faris, I knew I had to read it. I am a lover of all (er, most) things romance, and it sounded like a swoon-worthy story I would enjoy. Luckily, it did not leave me disappointed.

Hannah Thornton determines to revitalize her small town of Heritage, Michigan—and perhaps redeem her tarnished name. Her best friend Luke Johnson wants a place to belong, but is not sure that place is Heritage—unless he can land a particular job. Secrets and sparks fly as the story between the pair unfolds (with a secondary romance, too!), and they just might get the second chance they need.

You Belong With Me is an utter delight. With themes of belonging and second chances, believable (though frustrating, sometimes) characters, and pitch-perfect chemistry, Faris delivers a story that left me wanting to read more. Contemporary romance readers, definitely pick up this book.

This debut novel had so many great elements. I love when a main character wants to preserve history in a small town.
Hannah loves the historic buildings in her town and wants to save them from being torn down for a strip mall. She has great ideas and friends and family rally behind her. But can she pull off the requirements for a contest from a national magazine and win the prize money to begin to rehab her beloved Heritage, Michigan?
As a former foster child, Luke feels that he has never fit in but there are surprises in store that he could not have imagined.
There are two romances that run into obstacles but with introspection and learning to seek God for the answers, disappointments are averted.
“When we hold the broken pieces of our lives too close, they will cut us up inside.”
“When you’ve got nothing left, that’s when you see how real your faith is. Faithh with everything you want is easy. But faith when everything goes wrong? That’s when God alone has to be enough.”
The characters have a lot to learn but they see that God can take broken pieces and make something beautiful.
A feel good story in my favorite setting, a small historic town.

Wow. This book blew my expectations out the window. I loved it SO much! The characters were endearing, I loved the foster child aspect, I was completely surprised by something that happened in the story, and the ending was fantastic!

There were a few things about the story that probably weren't realistic, but I loved the rest of the book so much that it didn't bother me. I think I got too invested at times, as I didn't want to put the book down. LOL

All in all, You Belong with Me was very good. I loved reading it and definitely recommend the book. I cannot wait for the next one!

Realtor Hannah Thornton has loved Luke since they were children, but misunderstandings and bad timing has always got in the way of their friendship turning into something more.

Hannah is on a mission to save their smalltown from a large developer that wants to build a shopping center. She is passionate about her small town, and helping others.

Luke had a troubled childhood, and has always struggled to see himself as an equal with his colleagues. He sees himself as an outcast, unwanted and not good enough for the likes of Hannah. He admires her determination to preserve her hometown.

Thomas is Hannah's brother, working at the diner alongside his ex-flame, Janie, who he broke up without explanation. From outward appearances he has moved on, and is even engaged to another woman. Thomas struggles to fight for the love he wants, despite a secret that believes will keep them apart.

I liked how this book follows siblings Thomas and Hannah as they navigate life and love, growing in faith. There was good emotional depth, and layered backstories which the novel relies heavily upon. I wish that some of the characters had been more upfront about what they were going through at times. I also think I missed some 80's rom com references that would have tied the plot together more neatly in my head, if I had seen the movie. An enjoyable read, about big love in a small town.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I want to start off by saying that I absolutely loved the prequel novella to this series, P. S. Goodbye. If you haven’t read it, sign up for Tari Faris’ newsletter and you will get a free copy! It’s totally worth your time! You do not have to read the novella before reading You Belong to Me. They are both stand-a-lone’s.

Here’s what I liked about this story: I liked the small town setting. I used to live in a very small town and I really miss it. I love stories with good secondary characters who have their own storyline. Actually, in this story, my favorite characters were the secondary ones, Thomas and Janie. Their story was much more interesting to me. I am also interested in Nate’s story, which I hope comes next.

Now, for what didn’t work for me: I just could not connect with either Hannah or Luke or their relationship. I felt that there were way too many secrets and lies between them which continued throughout the entire story. Because of this, I just could not root for them to be together. I also felt like too many problems were solved too easily. To be really invested in a story, I need to feel like it is realistic and this one just didn’t feel that way to me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

This is a spectacular debut by Tari Faris! I adored this book. From Hannah and Luke to Janie and Thomas and a few additional characters we meet along the way, Heritage is a town I will be visiting again. This was a two for the price of one romance story with sister and brother Hannah and Thomas and their respective love interests. There is a ton of story packed within these pages-from romance and humor, mystery and several nuggets of Godly wisdom. Basically this book has it ALL! It even has a twist or two that caught me totally by surprise. If you like contemporary Christian Fiction with lots of heart, don’t miss this one!

You Belong With Me
By: Tari Faris

*REVIEW* 🌻🌻🌻
You Belong With Me is a sweet romance story. The characters are flawed but likeable, and throughout the story, they work through many important issues. This is a story with a small town element that is very pleasant and charming. The premise is not that unique, but it's interesting just the same. This story is heavier on the aspect of faith than I care to read. It was just a bit too much for me that it felt kind of preachy at times. Otherwise, it's a good love story that is simple and sweet.

In her debut novel, You Belong with Me, author Tari Faris creates a heartwarming contemporary romance featuring a close-knit group of friends and family members who reside in the beloved small town of Heritage, Michigan. Hannah Thornton and her best friend Luke Johnson call the town of Heritage home, although former foster kid Luke still struggles with a sense of belonging. Readers will be treated to two different love stories in this novel, similar to the style of Susan May Warren’s novels. After breaking Hannah’s heart years earlier, there might still be a future for Hannah and Luke if their secrets and differences don’t destroy their second chance at love. Last year, Hannah’s brother Thomas abruptly ended his relationship with the love of his life Janie, although unanswered questions and unresolved feelings linger.

Readers will fall in love with the town of Heritage and will look forward to the rest of the series. Tari Faris gives readers hope for the future and shares the message of God’s never-ending love for us. I love her writing style and the way she incorporates bits of humor throughout the romance storylines.

You Belong with Me is recommended for fans of contemporary romance and for readers who enjoy novels by authors such as Denise Hunter, Becky Wade, Courtney Walsh, Melissa Tagg, and Susan May Warren. P.S. Goodbye, the prequel novella to her Restoring Heritage series is currently only available to her newsletter subscribers, so readers can sign up for her newsletter at http://www.tarifaris.com and be introduced to many of the characters who will play an important role in her Restoring Heritage series.

I did not finish reading this book. I found the plot, themes, and lead and secondary characters as even the setting to be very similar to Love Inspired's The Fireman's Secret by Jessica Keller (copyright 2015). I did not find any exact copies of sentences. I do NOT recommend this book. This opinion is my own.

This reads like an inspirational Hallmark movie. I enjoyed almost everything about it. I wasn’t too fond of the way several characters were constantly withholding information from each other. I just knew it was going to cause problems and, as predicted, it did. There are two romances going on which was almost too much at times, but it worked out in the end. I hope to read the second book in the series someday. It focuses on Pastor Nate and his family. I read the first chapter teaser and can already tell where some of it’s going, but it sounds like it should be a good story.

A Christian romance, You Belong To Me is a light and easy read, a great weekend or vacation book. The story is somewhat predictable and cliché, but with a good storyline and likeable characters. I found myself rolling my eyes several times throughout the book, wishing that the characters would just get over themselves and move forward. The revelations from past events were touching and poignant, but this book didn't wow me like many others I've read.

What happens when two best friends try to help each other while keeping secrets? A whole lot of fun, tension, and healing.

Hannah Thornton is a realtor in the small town of Heritage. When it comes to doing her job, she can’t bear to sell old homes only to see them be leveled to make way for a strip mall. She finds her security in the sameness of life in the town she loves.

When she discovers a contest that can help her renovate her beloved Heritage, she gets the town onboard to compete. She’s resourceful and persuasive. And she has the determination to help her best friend by snooping around behind his back to help fill the hole in his heart.

Luke Johnson, a handyman, who grew up as a foster child in Heritage, considers leaving the small town he never felt he belonged in. Hannah is the one person who gives him second thoughts about leaving. Though he loves her, he doesn’t feel as though he deserves her. But, if he can land the job as the assistant fire chief he’d have a strong enough reason to stay.

As Hannah coordinates a project that will help Heritage compete in the contest, Luke comes alongside and offers his wisdom to help her. As they work together, sparks fly and secrets with the capacity to ruin the relationship are kept . . . until they come to light.

Faris writes believable, flawed, likable characters. I found myself cringing as both Hannah and Luke made choices with their secrets. But, their choices also led them to learning truths about authentic relationships.

Themes of belonging and second chances are beautifully woven throughout this story. We all want to belong somewhere, and reading Hannah’s and Luke’s journeys to understand what belonging really means was satisfying.

I loved the setting of Heritage for this story. Quirky and realistic secondary characters who genuinely cared about each other, unique businesses and the events that happened were perfectly suited to a small-town setting. Faris wove in some fun aspects into the setting that had me smiling. (Otis is fun!).

This story had me nodding my head in agreement with things shared. I giggled in places, and there were a couple of points in the story where I teared up because I so related to the characters.

If you enjoy humor in a sweet romance story with true-to-life characters, surprising twists and a wonderful happily ever after ending, this book is a must-read!

WOW, what an amazing debut novel! After loving the prequel novella, P.S. Goodbye I was so looking forward to this book, and before I finished the first chapter I was totally and completely sucked in and knew I would love this novel! And love it I did! I absolutely adore the town of Heritage, I find myself wishing I could step through the pages and take up residence there! I ❤️ Otis!
I loved Hannah and Luke so much, I found myself relating to Hannah a lot and some of the things she learned and advice she was given felt like it was written just for me! And I absolutely loved Luke, he is totally book boyfriend material! My heart broke for all Luke had been through and I was cheering him on through the whole story.
Similar to many of Susan May Warren's books, You Belong With Me actually features four POV characters and two separate love stories, both of which are fully developed and equally enthralling, and I loved Thomas and Janie just as much as Luke and Hannah!
The faith story in this book was incredibly moving and soul-stirring, and it was beautifully woven into the fabric of this book!
In closing, I couldn't stop reading this book, loved every minute, and it put a huge smile on my face! You Belong With Me has earned a spot on my list of favorite reads of 2019! I loved everything about this book and highly HIGHLY recommend it, this is one you won't want to miss! Tari Faris has tremendous writing talent and is definitely an author to watch, I cannot wait to read anything and everything she writes next!

This book should definitely be produced into a motion picture.
The author did justice to the characters.
I love how the different stories tied together. The plot twist were mind-blowing and unexpected. The title of the book was what drew me in and the different narratives of each character did justice to it.

I love reading about Hannah, because she's like most people if not all, trying to fix things and keep the past from repeating itself. Often forgetting that it's God's job to be in control and fix everything not us. I enjoyed reading about how she learnt to let go and let God work out His plans for her. Her love story with Luke was just fantastic. The baggage he came with because of his childhood was very relatable for me. He felt he never belonged anywhere and was an expert at driving people away but from various beautifully written plot twists he learnt he was adopted in the family of God.
Janie, Hannah's best friend had to learn that God alone was enough. Her's and Thomas love story was a beautiful mosaic of trust in God, building relationships on truth and on God. I loved how their different challenges brought them closer to God. I loved how in God their identity and worth was realized.

"When we hold the broken pieces of our lives too close, they cut us up inside. Give the pieces to God, see what he can do with them."
My favorite quote from the book and one of my biggest lessons.

Nothing else touched me like this quote from the book
"All the pieces of life are there, it takes God to arrange them in the right way "

The title of the book depicts the relationship between the characters, but for me, I belong with Christ no matter what life throws at me. It was meant for evil/pain/hurt/sorrow/tears, but God meant it for good.
I absolutely enjoyed the small town setting of the book.

I highly recommend this to all readers of Christian fiction. You'd find eternal truth that can be applied to your life especially those trying to heal from broken promises and relationships.

Tari Faris took a story full of broken people and turned it into a beautiful tale of redemption, faith, and love.

I loved reading about these characters' as they went on a journey to discover being broken is not as much of a flaw as they thought, but actually, quite beautiful.

My heart went out to Hannah and Luke so much as we discovered the pasts they've worked so hard to not let define them.

They both chastised others' for seeing only their pasts, but when they looked in the mirror, that was all they could see.

I related so much to Hannah's story and especially to Luke's struggle to realize his worth.

Hannah's pain from the past that seemed like a constant cloud hovering over her life broke me and touched me.

These were very beautiful, very broken characters who allowed God to remake their stories into something incredible.

The faith threaded throughout every aspect of the story was very wonderful and encouraging.

There were many life lessons we can all be encouraged by.

Through many ups and downs, there was two things constant, and that was God and good writing.

Faris' writing was simple yet elegant and full of humor and swoony sweet moments.

I would recommend this book to everyone!
