When investigator Gabriel Chavez had his cover blown by an aggressive reporter, the silver lining was being able to rejoin the dive team. The downside? Dive team captain Anissa Bell--a woman who both fascinates and frustrates him.

Anissa grew up as a missionary kid on the Micronesian island of Yap and always planned to return after college. But she remained stateside, determined to solve the case that haunts her--the murder of her best friend and the disappearance of a three-year-old child.
When Anissa's fractured past collides with Gabe's investigation into the tragic shooting death of a teenage boy in Lake Porter, they'll have to put their complicated history with each other aside in order to uncover the identity of a killer. What they'll discover is that revenge has no statute of limitations.

Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn closes out her nail-biting Dive Team Investigations series with a story that will have you wondering how long you can hold your breath.

*Had a great time listening to this book this time around. It has been so fun to revisit this whole team through audio.*

This was a great series conclusion! I have really enjoyed all three couples throughout the entire series. I believe someone could enjoy this book even if they haven't read the other stories, however, it will mean a lot more to get to know all of the characters of this friend group and see all of the battles they have fought to survive and thrive in all three books.

This story, once again, had great investigation details and wonderful interactions between the main and side characters. The romance between Gabe and Anissa was just perfect and it was fun to see them come together.

Oh, Lynn H. Blackburn’s Dive Team Investigations series has been a pleasure to read, and One Final Breath just might be her best story yet.

Past and present collide as a series of random circumstances circle around Anissa Bell with ominous intent. It is time to confront and put to rest the memories that have haunted her for thirteen years—and perhaps, finally admit the truth of her feelings to investigator Gabe Chavez, too.

Anissa and Gabe have intrigued me from Beneath the Surface, and I am so happy to have gotten to know them better in One Final Breath. Gabe may be the clown of the dive-team group, and Anissa the stalwart, by-the-book leader, but they have plenty in common—which they find out when they are willing to risk vulnerability. I loved them, I loved their story, and I highly recommend all the Dive Team Investigations books now (be sure to read them in order so that the experience of One Final Breath is extra sweet).

Now, I really hope, for the sake of these dive-team couples, that the danger in Carrington calms down...

This has been a good series. The six main characters all have unique strengths that make them a strong unit. In One Final Breath, I loved the plot twist with Liz. And the proposal was perfect.

One Final Breath has everything that makes a great suspense-mystery that I was not able to figure out, action and danger, likable, real characters and romantic attraction/friction. I have enjoyed this series that centers around a group of members of the Carrington County, North Carolina Sheriff's Department Dive Team. Lynn Blackburn has created a group of friends who not only work together but enjoy each other's company on their downtime and even attend the same church. This third book is the story of Anissa Bell, dive team captain, and Gabe Chavez, one of the members and former undercover officer. One evening while spending time on Lake Porter at the home of team member Ryan and his wife, Leigh, a nurse, they hear a gunshot. A young man was shot and died as he and his friend are swimming near a dock across the cove. The team is all there so they take a boat out and grab the teenagers but it was too late for the young man. As the team investigates the crime, things start happening to Anissa that are suspicious and eventually it becomes apparent that someone is after her. Gabe and Anissa barely tolerate each other but are actually are attracted to each other so there is tension in their relationship as the stress of the situation amps up. This is a mystery has a complicated plot that kept me guessing to the end and the pages turning. It has a feel good warm resolution to a bad situation. Another winner for the series.

I have been anticipating this book for MONTHS! The first two books in this series are amazing and I knew the finale would not disappoint. It did not! The relationship between Anissa and Gabe was so intriguing in the prior books and watching their relationship progress in this story was so worth it. The mysteries in this book draw you in from the beginning and I had trouble putting the book down because I wanted to know what was going to happen. Learning Anissa & Gabe’s backstories(finally!) answered a lot of questions and played in to the current mysteries perfectly. I was also thrilled to see a favorite character of mine from the first book, Mr. Cook in this story and that he played a more major role in this book. Lynn is very good a crafting a perfect mix of humor, romance, mystery and faith in her stories and this one has all of that. I am so sad this series is done because it is a favorite of mine but I am excited to see what Lynn has in store for us next!

I’ve been #teamgabe since book one in the Dive Team Investigations (which can be read standalone, but why would you when you could read all 3?). And One Final Breath did not disappoint in that area.
Gabe has a backstory that melted my heart but Anissa’s….wow. She’s fierce and vulnerable, independent and in need of love, and all the cool quirks you like to read about a character.

One Final Breath wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine with hearts and swoony sighs, though there were those. There were a few mystery threads woven in the suspense that had me hooked and turning the pages for me. When it all finally came together, it left me with a happy sigh of justice.

Oh and that epilogue….BEST EVER!

All in all, One Final Breath filled my expectations and left me assured that they will all live happily ever after.

Gabe and Anissa have the best banter! Their relationship is packed with complexities from the workplace to being friends of dating friends to their individually reluctant stance on romance. Gabe’s tender heart wrapped in a workaholic get-it-done mentality is completely endearing. He’s an underdog hero who infuses life with humor. Anissa has pit-bull tenacity, compassion, and mad dive skills to boot! Her loyalty, strength, and faith make her a top-notch investigator and friend.

Blackburn has created a perfect balance of suspense, romance, and authentic faith elements in this story! I’ve completely fallen in love with these characters and look forward to revisiting them in future rereads! I highly recommend the Dive Team Investigations series!

One Final Breath

*REVIEW* 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I've never read anything by the author prior to this story. I think this book is okay as a standalone. A few mysteries are somehow tangled and related, and the dive team are needed for investigation. Annisa, the heroine, is a strong intelligent woman who carries heavy guilt about the past. Gabe, the hero, is a professional sharp likeable character with problems of his own. Although previous adversaries, Annisa and Gabe are now working together to solve these crimes. They become friends, and a romance between them develops. The story is engaging and well written with a decent amount of suspense and drama. The romantic aspect of the story took up more space than needed, and I could have done without so much of it. Still, it's a solid read with a good pace and satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed it overall.

Since book one in the Dive Team Investigations series released, I have been dying to read Gabe's story. And now I can finally say I have!

Maybe it's due to the extreme anticipation for this book, but it ended up being a bit of a let-down for me. I was expecting to learn more of Gabe's backstory and learn about what makes him tick as a character. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. While this is a sound story, the plot focuses so much on the current mystery and issues, that we don't ever really understand the characters' past that defines them. We definitely heard a lot of drama about Anissa's past and how it defined her, yet Gabe remained a very one-dimensional character, although we all know that, based on the previous two books in the series, he could be so much more. So in that regard, I was pretty disappointed.

The story nonetheless is quite captivating and interesting, although there were parts that dragged on and lost my interest. I expected quite a bit more suspense from this suspense novel. Yes, the climax was very intense but was abruptly cut off by the end of the chapter, then the reader suddenly finds themselves in the epilogue, weeks down the road. That was the most disappointing aspect of this book. I would have much rather seen (or rather, read) the action play out than hear it second hand as the characters rehash it in their heads in the epilogue.

All in all, while I enjoyed finally reading these characters' story, I feel that so many aspects of this book could have been written and edited more thoroughly. However, I loved the other books in this series and am excited to read what Blackburn writes next!

Every since the first scene with Gabe in book 1 I looked forward to his story. He is such a passionate character and it came through in his feelings on solving his case and his relationship with Anissa.

This book has romance, suspense, action and a heartbreaking plot about kidnapping and reconciliation years later.

When the story was done I actually wanted more. Hoping the author will bring back the characters in future books to give us an update on what is happening in their lives.

Also loved how Brady St John from Lynette Easons’s Blue Justice series made appearances.

Now I’m planning on reading more about Anissa and Gabe’s first kiss (readers can get this when they sign up for the author’s newsletter).

Recommended to fans of romantic suspense and if you like authors like Lynette Eason, Terri Blackstock, Dani Pettrey, Irene Hannon and Susan May Warren.

“‘You've spent your entire career looking toward a future that God never intended for you instead of resting in the amazing life he's called you to right here.’”

What a finale! I’ve been eager for Gabe & Anissa’s story since book 1, and getting to see this group of friends sharpen, encourage, strengthen, pray for, and love each other is the best. I love a good romance, but a rock solid friend group—the ride or die kind—moves me like nothing else. 🥹

With the perfect blend of romance and suspense, award winning author Lynn H. Blackburn’s highly anticipated conclusion to her popular Dive Team Investigations series will leave readers cherishing the story long after the final page. One Final Breath is an unforgettable tale of forgiveness and grace, the power of friendship, and discovering true love. Ever since I read Beneath the Surface (book one in the series), I have been eagerly waiting for my favorite dive team member, handsome and charismatic Investigator Gabe Chavez, to get his own story. One Final Breath has been my most anticipated book of the year, and it will be on my list of top 10 books of 2019. Gabe and Anissa’s story was definitely worth the wait.

One Final Breath can be read as a stand-alone novel, but to fully appreciate the deep friendship between the dive team members and their heartwarming relationships with their significant others, it is highly recommended to read the entire series. You won’t be disappointed!

In the stunning conclusion to the Dive Team Investigations series, Investigator Gabe Chavez is determined to uncover the mystery behind the seemingly random homicide of a teenage boy. As the investigation begins, dive team captain Anissa Bell discovers a link to her past and suddenly her life is in extreme danger as she becomes the killer’s next target. As Anissa and Gabe’s relationship quickly heats up after years of animosity toward each other, Anissa’s past and present collide, leaving them in the fight for their lives.

One Final Breath is highly recommended for readers of romantic suspense, especially those who enjoy books by authors such as Dani Pettrey, Lynette Eason, Rachel Dylan, Natalie Walters, and Elizabeth Goddard. It is bittersweet to say goodbye to this incredible series and cast of characters, but I will treasure the opportunity to revisit old friends in the future as One Final Breath will enjoy a permanent spot on my keeper shelf.

I'm so glad to have finally finished this series. It's been awhile since I've read the previous books, so I had to get to know the characters again. The book was a fast-paced story and had some suspenseful moments. I listened to the audiobook format, which was read really well. The ending was good and I enjoyed the read. I think I would have liked it even more if I had read it shortly after the previous books.

'You need to get it in your head that someone is trying to kill you and they don't seem likely to stop trying anytime soon.'

Lynn Blackburn finishes off her Dive Team Investigations series with Gabe and Anissa's story and she definitely saved the best for last! I was captivated from the very beginning and could barely stand to put the book down when life intruded. I was completely surprised by the culprit, too. Blackburn weaves this story so seamlessly and the reader is swept away with each word! She blends the intrigue, danger and romance effortlessly to make for a wonderful read! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment! Highly recommended.

Lynn Blackburn finishes up the Dive Team Investigations series with the very best yet! Fans of the series will have no choice but to fall in love with Gabe and Anissa’s story.

Anissa Bell, captain of the dive team investigators, has had a problem with Gabe Chavez since before he was on her team. He worked undercover and would only dive once or twice a year, not enough in her opinion to stay up to speed with the rest of the team. Anissa was a missionary kid growing up until she went to college and her best friend was murdered and the three-year-old child she was watching disappeared. From that moment on, she spent her time trying to solve the case leading her to be with the dive team and around Gabe. When an investigation surfaces into the death of a young boy on the lake, they must figure out how to put their issues with each other aside and work to solve the case.

With each book in this series I have seen Blackburn come alive in her writing. One Final Breath brings the best of the series and gives readers even more to love. The suspense is top notch, the romance is right on point and the story flows without even trying. Each character brings just the right amount of believability to the story to make it an easy enjoyable read. I loved everything about this series and am sad to see it come to an end, but happy to say it is a satisfying end. Gabe and Anissa have been mentioned in the other books but this one is devoted to them and their story, and oh what a story it is! Both have a past that wasn’t the easiest, but they use that past to fuel them going forward making them a great team. Each of the main characters from the previous books have a role here and it lets us see how those relationships have progressed as well. The ending was my favorite in every way. The suspense was at its peak, and the romance was there without getting in the way of the tension driving the story forward. This is by far Blackburn’s best novel to date, fans of hers will love the conclusion to this series. Readers that enjoy Lynnette Eason, Dani Pettrey and other Christian Romantic Suspense authors will want to add Lynn Blackburn to their list of go to authors. Even though this is the third in the series, it could be read as a stand-alone without feeling lost. This is one of those books I wish I could rate more than five stars. I highly recommend this to fans of romantic suspense and all those that enjoy a good clean, quick read.

“For his part, Gabe was looking at her the way an astronaut looks at Earth. Like he could see his home but couldn’t quite reach it.”

Another intense, thrilling romantic suspense from Lynn H Blackburn! And this third book in the Dive Team Investigations series was so worth the wait to finally get the scoop on Anissa and Gabe. Though it can be read as a stand-alone, reading the books in order will make the most sense since the six main characters of the series are closely tied together and each story blends into the next.

The author really knows how to weave a great plot with twists and turns, interjecting the villain’s thoughts and actions every so often as the story unfolds. The action is fast-paced and the suspense is top notch, as is her writing. The characters are layered, complex, and captivating. We’ve met Anissa and Gabe previously through the first two books but their past and what propelled them to become who they are get illuminated in this book. Anissa, the daughter of a missionary who is tough and efficient, regrets mistakes of her past and is still trying to find resolution to the kidnapping of a toddler that happened when she was a college student. Gabe, a man with a broken home and past, is usually a light-hearted jokester but strives to help those who are suffering as he had in his youth. When supposedly unrelated homicides converge, Anissa and Gabe are left to work together professionally but also to work through their long-held attraction. Their banter and slow-building romance are quite delightful as are the supporting characters who provide godly wisdom.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, this book (and the entire series) is a must-read!

Investigator Gabe Chavez and Dive Team Captain Anissa Bell find themselves working together when Gabe's current case has mysterious ties to a tragedy in Anissa's past.

Will they be able to catch the killer before it's too late?

An utterly fantastic, action-packed read. The third in a series, but the first book that I've read by this author, it wasn't hard to jump right in step with the characters in this thrilling, high stakes adventure.

Anissa and Gabe are both strong in their faith, they've worked together before but not to this extent. Anissa has always been at home in the water, raised the daughter of missionaries, she has always wanted to get justice for her friend. She is good leader, meticulous on the crime scene, with a strong sense for organization. Gabe is good at diffusing tense situations with humor. He is protective of Anissa and has admired her for a long time.

Overall, a fantastic read, with a complex mystery, well-developed characters, and plenty of action. I liked how this book balanced the action and suspense with great personal growth and depth. I loved the camaraderie between the dive team members, they are always encouraging each other, and are not afraid to give real advice. And if you are a Lynette Eason fan, you'll be thrilled as I was that a character from her Blue Justice Series makes a cameo appearance!

Highly recommend this dynamic read, if you come in on the third book like me or if you have read the whole series, this isn't one that you'll want to miss!

Wow! I’m not sure how else to word my thoughts once I reached the end of this book. The suspense, the romance, Gabe….. need I say more? Blackburn certainly knows how to write a good story that makes readers unable to put the book down. That was me – I read this in one sitting. Yep, it was that good!

Gabe and Anissa’s story is one that I’ve been waiting for. I just love their relationship. They drive each other crazy at times, but also can’t stay away from each other. Yes, they have a backstory, but you’ll have to read to find out what it is. And Gabe is just there for Anissa. I think that’s what draws me to him. His quiet, hunky way of just being there for support, sometimes without saying anything. Swoon.

Both of these characters have something they need to get through in this story, both from their past and their present. Blackburn did not shy away from having THE message woven through the pages of this book, and that is something I appreciate about her writing. Her characters had real issues and looked for solid solutions – as in they prayed and/or went to other Christians for counsel. Such a great message for readers to have.

The bottom line is that this book, well this series actually, is a must read for romantic suspense fans. I do recommend starting with book one, not only because the series is amazing, but I think the back story behind the characters adds to the depth of this book. Besides, I know you’ll like them anyways!!

One Final Breath by Lynn Blackburn is the third story in the Dive Team Investigations trilogy. Each story can be read as a standalone, but if you read them all, you will get so much more out of this series. The team dynamics are my favorite parts of the stories. The relationships between the team members continue to grow throughout the series. I love their camaraderie and how they are always there for each other. I’m so glad we finally got Gabe’s story! I have been waiting for it ever since I read book one.

I was worried about Gabe and Anissa teaming up together, but I think Anissa ended up being just what Gabe needed. We got a lot of her backstory, which was helpful in piecing together who she is now. I wished we would’ve gotten a little more of Gabe’s backstory though. I thought the pacing was well done, and the mystery was not at all what I was thinking or expecting! One Final Breath is a great end to a great series! I highly recommend these stories for those who love romantic suspense. I am looking forward to Lynn’s next series!

One Final Breath by Lynn Blackburn is categorized as a romantic suspense. The suspense element was there and started in the first chapter after a "family" cookout, which was a good thing. The writing was top notch. I enjoyed seeing the different perspective of Gabe and Anissa as they told their story. They both had flaws and had to learn to overcome them in order to make way for their happily ever after. The main issue the plot carried for me was the romance. It was the main focus of the novel. Readers will see more about Gabe and Anissa trying to figure out their budding romance and their romantic feelings than the suspense. The suspense felt like an afterthought; the romance was the main leading storyline. Also, the motive for the bad guy felt cheap. It didn't really justify, to me, why he was chasing the heroine. I shook my head in disbelief. Overall, One Final Breath by Lynn Blackburn is an okay romantic novel with hints of suspense. Not really one for the books. Fans of Elizabeth Goodard, Irene Hannon, and Colleen Coble might really enjoy this novel.

Finally, the couple I've been shipping since the very beginning! Their love/hate dynamic is great, along with their complicated history. And Anissa's past resurfaces as they find themselves dealing with two cases and their greatest fears and trying to figure out their emotions for each other. For all the mystery, though, the one I was most invested in was went down during Anissa's part in Gabe's undercover opp...

Anyway, I think this is my favorite of the series, and I was glad to see Anissa and Gabe with their own book. Though I'm a bit suspicious with the number of Hispanic, bilingual cops with dark pasts named Gabe showing up in Christian romantic suspense. If that's the next big thing, I think I can live with that.

Of the three books in this series, this one was my favorite. (In Too Deep, the second in this series, was a close runner up.) The story was enjoyable and had some nice twists and turns, but my biggest disappointment (in all three books) was the rapid endings. For such a good story and writer, it was such a let-down. So much more could have been written, but the quick wrap-up left you feeling like the rug was pulled out from under you......especially in this third book.........like, "Wait, what? That's it? It's over?" Very disappointing.

This is the third and final book in the Dive Team Investigations series by Ms. Blackburn. Although this was my first book in the series to read, it was still a captivating read. This is a standalone book; however, I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series. The characters were well developed and intriguing for me, the storyline kept me turning the pages to find out what was next for Anissa and Gabe.

A breathtaking finale

The Dive Team Investigations series has come to a breathtaking conclusion with the release of One Final Breath. Wow! What an adventure! I have loved the couples in each of these stories. That they all played a significant role throughout the series made it all the more enjoyable.

This exciting finale starts with a bang as the six friends were relaxing on Leigh’s deck. When they hear an unnatural explosion mixed in with lightning from the storm, followed by a cry for help, Gabe, Anissa, and Ryan grab the boat to make a rescue. And discover that a murder has taken place.

I don’t recall reading about the process the dive teams used as they scour the bed of the lake in the previous books, at least not as a pair. Watching Gabe and Anissa work the grid together in an attempt to discover the murder weapon in a body of water so murky they could barely see each other was fascinating.

Having worked together for years, their growing attraction was no surprise to anyone, except perhaps to Anissa. When both Gabe’s and Anissa’s lives are found to be in danger, the way they determined to help the other was touching and sweet!

Despite having close relationships with God, neither Gabe nor Anissa felt like they deserved a relationship or that they knew how to make one work. As they worked together and delved deeper into the mystery surrounding the murder, they learned a great deal about the depth of God’s redemptive power in their lives.

Mr. Cook, a friend of Anissa’s family, introduced in Beneath the Surface as a man of prayer, continued to mentor the dive team and show them the love of the Lord and to help them see things more clearly. I think I’ve grown to love him more through each book! One of the great things about his prayers shown in this story is the way it was such a natural conversation with the Lord that would spring out of a conversation with others or end in a conversation, as if He were standing right there. Oh! Wait! He is, isn’t He?!

As with this author’s other stories in the Dive Team Investigations series, events that might have been made gory and macabre were kept clean, with only the most necessary of details mentioned. The mood, despite the heart issues being worked on, remained suspenseful yet hopeful and not depressing.

While each book does stand alone, now that all the stories are available, lovers of Christian romantic suspense can greatly enrich their reading experience by reading them as a series!

Since book one in Lynn H. Blackburn’s Dive Team Investigations series, I’ve been rooting for Gabe’s story. Y’all, it’s here and it does not disappoint.

Three investigations converge in One Final Breath. And readers finally get to discover what the contention between Gabe and Anissa is all about. If the twists and turns that leave you guessing or the building romance aren’t enough for you, the entire dive team returns. Leah, Ryan, Sabrina, and Adam all step in when needed (including a touch of matchmaking from the ladies and ribbing from the guys. Let’s face it, Gabe deserves a little payback).

Blackburn excels at putting the reader into the investigation—from underwater to feet to the pavement—we’re kept in the dark right along with the team until their big break in the case…or is it?
After two books, this team is like family and book three is much like a reunion with people you haven’t seen for a while. You don’t want to miss the Dive Team finale. If you haven’t read any of these books yet, now’s the time to savor them all together. Plus, now you won’t have to wait to find out more about Gabe.

"One Final Breath" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the third book in a series, but it works as a standalone. There were several cases that the team had to work on and which touched on each other in unexpected ways. Several crimes occurred on or near a lake, and the dive team had to search underwater several times for evidence that was potentially dropped into the lake. The suspense came from physical danger to multiple people and from relationship tensions.

The main characters were kind, determined people who reacted realistically to the situations. I cared about what happened to them. The hero and heroine were attracted to each other but they didn't feel like they were good marriage material. They had to overcome some personal issues before moving beyond friendship. The hero and heroine were strong Christians, but they struggled with guilt over past actions and accepting and giving forgiveness. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I would recommend this enjoyable, exciting suspense novel.

I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
