Mommy and her little ones are settling in for story time, and this time it’s the biblical story of Easter that she’s telling. As the youngsters hear God’s tale unfold with its sometimes somber notes about sin and death, they are softly and continually reminded, “But Easter is coming!” By the end of the book, the anticipation has built and the children can celebrate the ending and the glory of Easter Sunday. In a time when children’s Easter excitement often focuses on only egg hunts and candy, this book offers a different—and true—reason for joy and expectancy. It's designed to be read and reread on the days leading up to Easter, telling the greatest story and building a sense of anticipation and celebration in little hearts.Go to bhkids.com to find this book's Parent Connection, an easy tool to help moms and dads (or anyone else who loves kids) discuss the book's message with their child. Little ones get so caught up in the worldly frills of "Easter" with the beauty of Spring blooming all around them, new outfits, Easter baskets, egg hunts that they actually know little, if anything, about the reason there is an Easter (or rather, Resurrection Sunday).
So we try to tell them the beautiful yet horrific story of the betrayal, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour. But it is a story that is hard for young minds to comprehend. So it is normally presented in a sweet, very short version that ends with the joy of the Resurrected Christ and an empty tomb. All well and good, yet somehow still missing the point in its brevity.
The author of Easter is Coming does a fabulous joy of taking young listeners from original sin to the Resurrected Christ at the empty tomb. The story of Easter in anticipation.
Throughout the book a bit of a Bible story or event is told and it ends with "Those people didn't know, but we know... Easter is Coming!" Joyful! Anticipation! Even at the Last Supper, when Judas left the room.... "Judas didn't know, but we know.... Easter is Coming!"
I highly recommend this lovely book and its lovely treatment of the joyful anticipation and fulfillment of the Resurrection of our Lord - Easter is Coming.....

Yes, yes, THANK YOU! I absolutely love this little book! It can be hard to find books about Easter that don't involve the Easer Bunny or egg hunts. This story is truthful yet cute, and interactive by repeating certain phrases that kids will hopefully start to repeat with you as you start to flip through the pages. It begins right at the beginning of the Old Testament, showing how the whole Bible is about Jesus and not just the New Testament. He existed before the world was created and knew that "Easter" was coming all along even though it took people a while to understand.
This book is about the size of a novel only wider. It's a padded board book so the sturdy construction should help protect it in the hands of a toddler. The illustrations are highly colorful and engaging, and the text is creatively placed within them.
I would absolutely recommend this book as a MUST-HAVE for everyone's home with small children to help them grasp the real meaning of Easter aside from the commercial holiday. It would also be a great book to share with a young Sunday school class. Love it!

Easter is Coming By Tama Fortner Illustrated by Wazza Pink
This is a delightful story about Easter that is presented so that even young children can learn that it was a gift of love from God. Children are taken on a short journey through the Bible starting with Creation and the first sin and the message of the prophets. The main focus of this book though is the life of Jesus and that Easter is coming.
This is a board book that measures approximately 8.25" x 8.25" (or 21 x 21 cm). The cover is padded so easy to hold while reading. The illustrations are colorful but soft perfectly complimenting the story. At 23 pages it isn't too long for short attention spans while sharing a powerful and important message Easter is Coming and it is the proof of God's love for us today. Perfect for bedtime reading or as the start to your day. This is a good family time book whether shared with a parent and child or a grandparent and a slew of grandchildren scattered round about.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations but that I offer my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
This was such a blessing to read with my daughter! Tama Fortner wrote a very refreshing take on Easter. What I liked most about this book is that is started at the beginning, with Adam and Eve, and took the reader all the way to present day. Yet while you were moving through the book, you were always reminded that Easter is coming.
She very easily dealt with hard topics by putting them in a child-appropriate format. She states the “bad” thing, but then reminds the child that those people didn’t know about Easter, but we do!
What was so refreshing about this book was that it was more than the traditional Easter story. After all, the Easter story actually starts with Adam and Eve and goes through present day and into the future. Tama Fortner does this in her book. It is easy for the child to connect the traditional Easter story with other areas of the Bible.
My daughter really liked the story and has asked it to be re-read to her. That makes is a win-win in my book!

A special thanks to LifeWay for sending a complimentary copy of Tama Fortner’s book, Easter is Coming.
Easter is Coming is a cute and adorable board book perfect for teaching little ones the importance of Easter. I really appreciated that Fortner chose to not start her book immediately with the Cross but, rather, begin with the Fall of man. In this way children understand the very real need of a Savior. The repetitive “Easter is coming!” on each page will encourage kids to participate in the retelling of this most important narrative and the bright and colorful illustrations of Wazza Pink will hold their attention as each turn of the page brings new pictures.
While only twenty-four pages, Fortner does an excellent job emphasizing the meaning of Easter and why Jesus came. Often times, I feel as if children’s books neglect including why humanity needs a Savior. I am so glad Fortner communicated this need and did so in such a way that little ones can comprehend and can thus participate in the anticipation and excitement of Resurrection Sunday. This would make a wonderful baby shower gift or an addition to an Easter basket!
Easter Is Coming! by Tama Fortner is one of the best children’s books I have seen that fully explains God’s redemption plan in an easily understood, kid-friendly way. From the Garden to the Resurrection, kids learn that God always had a plan for people to come back to Him. The repeated message is, that while many didn’t understand or acknowledge that plan, Easter was always coming. The message is spot on, and the accompanying illustrations are bright, bold, and beautifully detailed. For parents, there are bonus materials available online to help with questions and discussion that are sure to come up. This book is perfect for family reading time during Holy Week (or really any time) or for early readers to test their skills. It would also be great in an Easter basket.
Highly Recommended.
Audience: kids ages 2-6.

This book is absolutely gorgeous and it shares a wonderful message of the hope that "Easter is coming!" The book begins with Creation, shares the birth of Jesus and continues through to His death and the celebration of His resurrection. The artwork, details and colors are amazing. This is a larger size board book at approximately 8 x 8. If you've been wanting an Easter gift for the littles in your life, I give this book all the shout-outs!
I received a copy of this book to review and all opinions are completely my own.
This book is absolutely beautiful... very Biblical in content... and super sturdy for small hands to enjoy over and over again. It is perfect for your little ones for read-aloud time or to leaf through as they play.
Easter was always huge in my family and when I had kids, I wanted to carry on that tradition. Along with all the fun secular activities, I wanted to teach them why Easter was so meaningful from an early age. I have a five year old and a three year old so for the last few years, I have searched for books that tell the story of Easter in a way they can understand. I had found a couple that were decent, but nothing that were super impressive. That is until I came across "Easter Is Coming".
"Easter Is Coming" starts out with Adam and Eve and how they did not know Easter was coming. It progresses to the night of Jesus' birth and how no one knew Easter was coming. From there, Jesus grows from a small boy into a man and from there, it leads into the events surrounding the crucifixion. Again, no one knew Easter was coming and then it does. The book is simple enough so young listeners will not get overwhelmed yet it makes its impact and is beautifully written. It definitely inspired conversations with my children and had me tearing up in several spots as I read it to them. This is hands down the best children's Easter book that I have ever read.
Easter Is Coming by Tama Fortner with illustrations by Wazza Pink is a fun book for children which doesn’t talk as much about Easter as it does about God's plan for the salvation of the world. It’s a plan that started with Adam and Eve, continued through the time of the prophets and up to the birth of Jesus. After Jesus' birth, there were a number of other people who just didn’t get it. They knew something was happening, they just didn’t know what. Today though, we do know what was happening, so we see things with a different perspective. I was more impressed with the pictures than the way the story was told, but children may get the basic message that Jesus died for our sins, so we can be saved. I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review as part of the publisher’s bloggers program. 4/5
Trying to teach children Bible doctrines at an age-appropriate level and manner is so important, and for centuries has been left to parents’ verbal retellings. This book covers the *full* story of Easter—not just “He rose again.”
I feel like some older children’s Bible story books include stories that aren’t age-appropriate, while many of the modern children’s books mean well, but end up using semi-creepy, vague illustrations and overly poetic language. (Books like “The Jesus Storybook Bible” have been greatly used of God, but they’re not my style.) If that has been your experience, I’d guess you’ll be pleased with this book!
This book starts all the way with Adam and Eve, references the prophets from the Old Testament, then tells the story of Jesus' life from his birth in a manger. This is different from other Easter books because it describes the entire trajectory of Jesus' life. The common refrain, "they didn't know, but we know" is a thought provoking one for kids, because it places them back in Biblical times and invites them to think about Jesus' life in his time. There are a couple pages that reference Jesus knew, which is a reflective point, too. Illustrations are pleasant, and the tone is warm and joyful, which is a departure from other Christian children's books I've seen recently.
A couple theological foibles in the storytelling. Evil is described as humans making bad decisions (Adam and Eve do a sin), without reference to any forces of evil from which we need rescue. Atonement here is the pseudo-biblical cosmic child abuse model. "Every bad thing - Jesus was punished for them all." Any model where Jesus is only the passive rather than the active agent misses the biblical story.
