Don’t Think It Would Appeal to Men

I get most of the books that I review from a book review site, and unfortunately, the author put up an incomplete version of this book. It is supposed to have three books in one, as the cover states. But the review copy that I received only had the first book on self-esteem. As such, I can only review the book that I have available to me.

I found the self-esteem book to be a bit touchy-feely, which I think will not appeal to most men. There are lots of quizzes and exercises to do to better understand yourself, but most of the men that I know wouldn't be willing to do that on a topic like self-esteem. Some quizzes, too, didn’t actually assist the man to understand what the results meant. I also thought that some topics covered in the book didn't really seem to relate to self-esteem. For instance, I was wondering what finding and pursuing your passion had to do with self-esteem. The author did not make the connection, and it is not an obvious one. I also didn't like the idea in the subtitle of the book which makes the bold assertion that if you don't have good self-esteem, you'll be a doormat. I don't think that's necessarily true for either men or women. All in all, I was disappointed in this book.

I received a copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
