Everything has a cost.

I never thought the cost of falling in love could be my life. But when the Vampire Council gets reports of increased magical activity in the surrounding areas, they give the order for vampires to kill any witches they come across. I trust Lucas to never hurt me, but he’s not the only vampire in my life, and let’s just say the others aren’t my biggest fans.

While I’m busy trying not to be come vampire chow, something dark and powerful is surrounding Thorne Hill, infecting everything—and everyone—that gets in its path. If the darkness gets to the Ley line, then the whole town is doomed.

I won’t go down without a fight, but how can I fight something I can’t even see?

Dark of Night has left me feeling energized and supercharged. I got swept up into this paranormal world full of intrigue, bravery, loyalty, love and and whole lot of sexy times. I absolutely adore the commitment these two characters have towards each other.

After the end of Dead of Night, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next book. Callie and Lucas had me instantly hooked on their story. They are forbidden from being together yet they fell in love. Ot was unavoidable. There were and still are forces at play that don’t want them to be together. Their love can lead to death.
In this book Callie is trying to come to terms with her extreme powers and figure out how she is different from other witches. We also get to know more about her childhood and her ‘family’ make more of an appearance in this book.

I loved how hot Callie and Lucas always were for each other. This book is more about their relationship and how they fight for each other and alongside each other. That ending is a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers. I desperately need the next installment like right now.

Dead of Night, the first book in Emily Goodwin’s Thorne Hill series, was a fun quick read that left me desperate for book two. Thus, I eager jumped into Dark of Night for more of the characters and storyline I had grown to enjoy so much. Although I enjoyed this second book in the series, I did not enjoy it quite as much as I enjoyed the first book.

Dark of Night certainly move the story forward, and I enjoyed seeing the way things developed, but I feel as though very little happened in this book. It moved forward, yes, but it was mostly towards the end of the book when this happened. I feel like a lot of the book was spent repeating information and throwing in scenes that were entertaining but did not move things forward much. I am not saying these things were unimportant, as I can see how they will play a part later, but they felt dragged out and when the big things did happen later in the book it seemed to happen quickly.

Nevertheless, the promise of what more is to come in the series has me eager for book three. Although I have given Dark of Night a three-star rating, it’s more of a three-point-five-star rating. I enjoyed the later part of the book more than the early part, with the details and emerging information a lot of fun, but I do wish there had been a wee bit more to this one.

Overall, a fun second book, although not quite as fun as book one. I’m eagerly anticipating book three, though, as there’s so much promise of fun to come.

Dark of Night is the second book in the Thorne Hill series by Emily Goodwin and it was just as good as the first book, if not funnier!

I mean seriously, what is funnier than turning your jerk of a brother into cat?

Since the last book when Callie defeated a demon straight from hell she has seen her powers increase to even stronger than they were before and we are realizing that is definitely more going on that we and Callie don't know. We are all dying to know what she really is!

The forbidden aspect between vamps and witches is really played up throughout Dark of Night. I don't know that I even realized the full extent of the repercussions of it in Dead of Night, but we definitely see how high the stakes are. (pun intended)

Suspicious things are happening and there was so much happening that you don't know where to look, who to trust, and what is going to happen next. I cannot wait to find out how powerful Callie will be when she finally knows the extent of her powers!

You need to be reading this sexy forbidden paranormal romance by Emily Goodwin before you get to far behind, because this is one series that will keep you on your toes!

Before I ramble on about stuff and things, the most important take-away from this review should be: I really liked this book, and it was an awesome read. Apart from a few repetitive demon-hunting-and-killing scenes, it was all fun to read, for sure.

But.

It just wasn't on the same level as the first one. And the main reason is that I struggled to find the major meaning or purpose behind this particular installment. This was like the book "in between the action", where nothing truly significant happens and nothing huge is revealed. And also, it felt as if people were just running around, fighting bad guys left and right, and thus the book lacked a meaningful plot, in a way. I mean, I guess the main point was to fix the ley line, but then it seemed that only a tiny part of the book was actually dedicated to it.

And eventually, when the little cliffhanger shows up, I wasn't even surprised, since eveything in the cliffy was already revealed or discussed early on (or in the previous book). Soooo... This was just recycling old storylines from the first book in the series.

Which is/was fine!

But again, I felt as if I wasn't reading anything super new. And not many, if any, questions from Book #1 were answered.

And also, maybe someone can clear this up for me about the cliffhanger:

But like I said, it was worth the read. Now I'm just hoping Book #3 reveals all of the good stuff.

And finally, some spoilery thoughts for the next book:

Dark of Night, a continuation of Dead of Night, brings us more of Lucas and Callie. Lucas is still the same incredibly sexy vampire from book 1 that makes you wish they were real and you had one for yourself.

Callie, again, shows strength and determination that are admirable and that make me a little jealous I'm not a witch.

The continuation of their story, and the trouble brewing in their world is brilliant. Truly. I am so fully invested in what happens next that I cant wait to get my hands on book 3.

That being said, I felt the romance aspect of this one lacked. Lucas is absolutely sexy and swoony, but as far as their relationship, it definitely takes a back seat to the rest of the story. You have them as an amazing couple, but I don't feel much story driven by their status together.

Overall, this book is one thousand percent good. I am fully invested in what happens next. And I cant wait to see where book 3 picks up after the cliffy this book ended with. I just wish there was some more drama within the romance portion of their story, too.

Overall, this is definitely a series I would recommend to those that love paranormal romances!

Dark of Night picks up right where Dead of Night leaves off. Callie and Lucas feel more pressure in their relationship with both the Vampire Council and the Grand Coven coming into town. The VC has an order out to kill any witches on site, the GC punishes vampire relations by death.  Not to mention something dark and powerful is surrounding Thorne Hill, and affecting everything, including the humans. Callie won't go down without a fight, but how does she fight what she cannot see?

I absolutely love this world by Emily Goodwin! Lucas is ancient, strong, powerful, and sexy. Callie is badass, and can hold her own against even Lucas. Together they are unstoppable- together they feel right. But how can their relationship be right if everyone else says it's wrong? Besides saving the town- and the world, Callie and Lucas also needs to fight for each other. And I cannot wait for the next book. These books- these stories are phenomenal, and I love the world filled with magic, vampires and a little bit of mayhem. I love these characters, and these books and am dying for the next one in the series! 5⭐ out of 5⭐.

Dark of Night by Emily Goodwin is book 2 in the Thorne Hill series. This book continues the story of Callie and Lucas.
In book 2, we get more of of hot and steamy chemistry that is between Lucas and Callie while also in this book, Callie is trying to deal with her extreme powers and figure out why/how she is different from the other witches. We also get more insight about her childhood and also her ‘family’ make more of an appearance in this book.
Overall, this was such an amazing and exciting addition to the Thorne Hill series. I loved the chemistry, passion, excitement, suspense, angst and feels that this book really brought forth. I'm dying to read book 3 and can't wait for it to come out.

So, I wouldn't really call this series paranormal romance or even really a romance. I'd consider this more of an action/adventure type of series with some sexy scenes thrown in.

This is book two and a continuation of the adventures of Callie the witch and her vampire boyfriend Lucas. This series is lots of fun with a little bit of everything that goes bump in the night thrown in. There are steamy scenes, funny scenes and butt-kicking scenes!

While I don't feel that book 1 ended on a true cliffhanger, just some unanswered questions, this one (book 2) was for sure a cliffy. Luckily we won't have a long wait to see what happens so don't let that detour you from grabbing this series!

Dark of Night by Emily Goodwin is book Two in the Thorne Hill Series. This continues the story of Callie and Lucas, so you really should read the previous book 'Dead of Night'.
Callie is finding out more of her family and her powers. Of course there is still the issue that is keeping Callie and Lucas that they will need to overcome. This is a action packed book that lets us into their drama and romance...but their story doesn't end with this one. Can't wait for the next book in this series.

Another good read.

Again another action packed read. Callie has too fight off more Demons , vampires and avoid the vampire council and the Grand Coven of witches. What impact will this have on Callies and Lucas's forbidden relationship ? Also Callie is still trying to find out who she really is and who the blue eyed man is who comes to her in her dreams.

3.5, una serie che cattura, In questo libro il ritmo un po' più lento in alcuni punti e maggior spazio al romance. Riassumendo in poche parole: magia, streghe, vampiri, uccisioni e squartamenti. Adoro!

DNF'd at 33% I just couldn't with this heroine anymore. Which is ashame as I liked the hero and supporting characters. Yes, I get it. You want to have lots of sexy times with your 🔥 vampire. We've all been there, but you still haven't figured out how you vanquished the big, bad demon from book 1 yet, not have you even started looking into who the mysterious blue eyed guy from your vision is, now your coven is accusing you of Satanism (punishable by Death, in the books, BTW), and your vampire keeps telling you that "you don't smell like Any of your family members " and NONE of them have any powers. But yes, let's not take anytime to resolve any of that let's just go back to our house and Netflix and chill. At this point, I'm hoping the big, bad kills her.

I read the first book several years ago and really liked it, like gave it 5 stars and marked it as a need to re-read. I never read book 2 bc it wasn’t available for free yet. I finally stumbled across the series again and was excited to read book 2. I honestly almost stopped reading at about 55% but decided to push through. It FINALLY picked up at 66% and I started to really enjoy the story. Now that I finished I have several things that stop me from reading more in the series. Here they are:
- This story line was so damn slow. The first half of the book is nothing but sex and Callie and Lucas professing their love for each other. Don’t get me wrong I love a good sex scene but there were so many. I mean so so many and they all felt the exact same way. I honestly could have copied and pasted the scenes they were that similar. I ended up skimming or skipping at least 4 bc I was so bored with them. I would give this 4 🌶️ and not because of these scenes (they were really basic) but bc of how often they ended up screwing each other. This dragged the story out. Honestly the whole plot probably could have been written in 300 pages with plenty of room for smut. SO DAMN LONG!!!
- There were so many scenes that kind of felt pointless to the story. I get some of them were to build background on the characters but there were so many scenes indicating how different her magic was it didn’t feel necessary to have all the others. Example 1 is the astral projects- what was the point of it? To let us know she’s grown in power cause she could use magic? Example 2, changing her brother into a cat. Yes this allowed her the chance to confront her father but was the cat and the chapters it took to resolve that really beneficial? All it really told me was how unusual her power was. Couldn’t she have just threatened her dad bc of what they were doing to Lucas. Did we really have to go into this long winded plot line? Seriously the first half of the book feels like filler now after all this action happened in the last couple of chapters
-finally the timing of the book. So damn slow I wanted to DNF to resolving so quickly I feel like I had whiplash from the time Callie figured out what was going on, to her fixing it was a matter of only chapters. It took her that long to change Scott back to a cat shouldn’t a major catastrophe involving demons and he’ll take longer. It leaves us on a cliff hanger that was so obvious and I’m worried if I read book 3 I’m going to go through the same thing. Slow pacing, nothing but sex, to fixing everything in the blink of an eye. Add to that this series is 9 books long and I just don’t have it in me. I’m so ridiculously disappointed that this series is over for me. Cause book 1 was one of my first vampire books that I actually liked.

Book two in the Thorne Hill series picks up right where we were left with that huge cliffhanger at the end of book one. Lucas and Callie are busy fighting zombies and demons and whatever else is thrown at them or summoned from the dead. Basically just the typical happenings in Thorne Hill when these two are involved.

In Dark of Night we do get a lot more answers to questions surrounding Callie’s past and why her relationship with her family is the way it is. I will say her so called father and brother are by far my least favorite characters. I’d take the super decayed attic zombie over either of them.

Callie and Lucas are super hot and heavy in this book and are totally in love. And for some reason they felt the need to constantly remind us about it over and over again. Yeah, I know I should give them a break and let them be all lovely dovey, but it grated on my nerves a bit. I honestly found myself skimming through some of those pages as it was a bit overkill for me. Moving on. Callie is still trying to figure out all her powers and why she is different from other witches and Lucas always has her back, because he is great like that. They make a pretty bad ass evil fighting team.

“I’m a witch and you’re a vampire, but I swear to the heavens above we were meant to be.”

Evil is still lurking near the Ley line and trying to go after the witches, so Callie and her friends and Lucas are always prepared to fight. Lucas will do anything to protect the one he loves, but how far is he willing to go and what happens when they break a rule of the Coven? Can they stay together when their relationship is forbidden by some of those closest to them?

“He’s a vampire, I’m human. He won’t age. I’ll get old. He’ll live forever. I’ll die. We love each other, but is love enough?”

This was a really good read, I just personally liked the pace and storyline a bit better in the first book. This one does end on a huge cliffhanger and I was like no, don’t go and do this to me again, Emily Goodwin! Hopefully we won’t have that long to wait for the next book because I need some answers and can’t wait to see what happens next!

Dark of Night picks up right where Dead of Night leaves off, so with that being said if you haven’t read Dead of Night go back and start there or else the story won’t make much sense, plus Dead of Night is fantastic.

I thought it would be hard to top Dead of Night, but Dark of Night blew it out of the water for me. The chemistry between Callie and Lucas as hotter than ever and I feel like it will only continue to get hotter as the story goes on. Despite the fact they shouldn’t be together they don’t let that stop that, they continue to fight and to prove everyone wrong. I loved Callie’s strength, especially when it comes to her family (specifically her father and brother). I was cheering that girl on when she stood up for herself.

I love Emily’s writing style and how she paints such a vivid picture for each scene you truly feel like you are standing right there in the middle of the woods with Callie and Lucas. It’s so easy to get lost in the story and the scenes.

This story is filled with romance, it is filled with loads of drama, suspense, action and a couple of laughs. Some questions in the plot were answered and of course, more questions popped up. I seriously can’t wait for book 3 to see what is next for Callie and Lucas, especially with the cliffhanger we got in this one.

Well, shoot... I was hoping to wait for this series out for when it would be available through my library, read a few new releases and then come back to it... But now I'm hooked... and there goes my money.
description

Now I NEED to finish this series. I hope the final (maybe final?) book comes out soon so I can just obsessively read through it
description

The first book drew me in and the second is what hooked me. We learn more about this paranormal world and get more pieces to the puzzle. I'm now attached to these characters and their lives.
I really like the fact that Lucas and Callie are together, that it's not a "will they won't they" scenario for the whole series. That can be great in a single book, but in a series it gets monotonous.
Goodwin has created a fascinating world, if the drama these characters face isn't enough, the humor will be. I adore the banter between Lucas and Callie, it's just the icing on the cake for an excellent storyline.
description

It really is like a vampirish Harry Potter with a large dose of romance.
I love it!

I’ve read the first book in 2019 and absolutely loved it. No idea why I didn’t keep reading. Yesterday I’ve reread the first book and still enjoyed it. Today I started with book 2 and I am noticing more and more Repetitions (did you know that Binx has a sleek fury?) and plotholes. Lucas has lived for 1600 years and yet is super one dimensional. His whole job seems to be protecting Callie and helping her with her witchy stuff. Also why does Callie never question anything? She was able to kill the demon, but I don’t see her searching for books or anything to learn about her powers. Lucas mentioned so many times, that she doesn’t smell like her family, yet she never digs deeper. Her family is awful, but she just turns into this little girl without a backbone. And why does she not ask her family if she might be adopted???? Make it make sense?

There is so much stuff I simply don’t care about. It might have been okay in the first book, but looking at the amount of books this series has, I am not in the mood to keep reading about Callie’s mundane life. She might be a powerful witch, but she prefers to stay oblivious to most things. I don’t like it when things are unnecessary dragged out. This book needed an editor to throw out all the boring stuff.

DNF at 43%.

Callie changed. For the better. I already loved her sass and wittiness in the first book, but now she’s becoming so sure of herself and becoming a really strong person. She’s no longer afraid for her all the bad things her family did to her, and I love it. You see her grow through the book. I already loved Lucas in the first book too, but it feels as if in this book, Emily just knew how to write the characters both so much better. The first book was a really raw shaped diamond –this one is getting more the shape of the diamond, figuratively speaking of course.

The book is so funny, I laughed multiple times –and then I mean out loud. Callie is an amazing person and her personality mixed with the magic things she does in this book, it causes for a lot of trouble which makes sure you’ll be hooked to this book, I know I was.

I also loved that we got so much more information about Callie’s past and about her family. It was a question from the first book I was really anxious to get and here we got to read some of those answers.

If you read the first one and liked that one, I really recommend this one, because I think this one is way better than the first book. I feel like Emily just grew a LOT in paranormal-romance writing in just a month. This book feels so much more like the real-thing. The first one was 80% hot vampire sex, in this book something else actually happens, which I love –yes, I love the sex scenes too, but in the first book there wasn't a good balance between the two. This book has a way better balance between everything. And also, familiars/cats I mean, who doesn’t love them?!

 4/5 stars.

After the last book I was craving more of Callie and Lucas. And this book delivered what I wanted. More of the same as book one meaning lots of sexy times. Lots of action. Lots of fun too.

With the Ley Line a bit out of control Callie needs to figure out how to get it back to normal. She notices that since the last visit from the demon that tried to kill her in the last book the Ley Line seemed to leak altering the moods of the people around it and making regular low demons get supercharged.

Like usual she seems to defy death numerous times. But with the help of her vampire boyfriend things are back to normal.

One thing bothered me with is instalment and it’s (I know this will be hard to read) there a little too much sexy time in this book. I feel stupid for saying that because I love lots of sexy in my books but this time it became redundant. Kind of like it meant nothing to them. Seems like their relationship is based solely on sex and nothing else. Same as the phrase “I love you” between them. It’s being said too much in this one. Almost like they needed to prove something. That’s the only negative comment I have with book 2!

"Dark of Night", second in the 'Thorne Hill Witches' series, is a pleasant read but, while it does have a plot of its own, it spends a lot of time setting the scenery for what is to come later.
Callie knows there is something different about her magic. She's stronger than she should be, particularly as she was untrained for much of her teen years, and she has abilities which are unknown to her fellow witches. She has been described by Demons several times as a 'hybrid.'
There's also the question of her parentage - was she adopted, stolen or otherwise acquired? Who is the blue-eyed man?
Not forgetting the forbidden nature of her relationship with 1600-year-old Vampire Lucas - both witches and vampires see it an abomination, punishable by death.
This time around something has affected the local ley line, people are increasingly angry, Demons are appearing en masse and are stronger than they should.
It's up to Callie and Lucas to sort it out, and sort it out they do.
It's well-written but could have done with a tighter edit as there are a couple of typos which should have not slipped through.
It ends on a cliff-hanger.

Holy smokes! WHAT JUST HAPPENED???? This story… that ending… This series is utterly brilliant and Dark of Night just adds so much more depth to this story. The sizzling moments to the twists and turns as Callie navigates everything that is happening in Thorne Hill is just epic. You get completely wrapped up in the story as Callie and Lucas are trying to figure out why things are happening plus their relationship. The one thing I am loving about this series aside from the amazing concept, is Callie. She is fire and spunk. She fights for everything she believes in and protects who and what she loves. She is a fighter, especially after you learn everything that happened to her in the past thanks to her father. She keeps on going forward and trying to mend the things that are damaged, even while she is questioning her self in some aspects.
Overall, when is the next book???? I need more! Between the flow of the story and its unique concept, I am completely enthralled with this series. This book packs such a huge punch that I could not put it down once I started. I am in LOVE with it! So if you haven’t started, snag up the first book and fall in love!

Seriously? Can I just get a double dose of Lucas and Callie served up on a huge dessert plate please?

I’m OBSESSED with this series in the best sort of way. Emily is able to deliver the appeal of YA vampires and witches in a full fledged adult paranormal series that not only delivers but makes you near salivating for more.

Lucas is unapologetically in love with a witch and he will stop at nothing to protect her. Find me a vamp who will hide a corpse not only once but twice for you and I am so there for it.

Callie is a witch that’s not a witch who is utterly relatable to the everyday human. She’s witty and has a mild addiction to coffee while also being an all around bad ass.

The only thing that can truly be complained about is waiting for the next installment of the Thorne Hill Series. I’m getting quite fanged already from the wait.

Dark of Night was an action packed engrossing read that had me hooked until the very end. I enjoyed this paranormal fantasy novel which continued right where the first book left off. The story was fast-paced with never a dull moment. Callie and Lucas continue to be an amazing couple and I loved that they were able to easily integrate into each others lives. Their chemistry grew even more in this story and their steamy scenes were downright hott. Callie learn a more about herself in this book and I love the progression of her relationship with Lucas. You will continue to root for these two throughout.
The story was very descriptive and detailed and you could easily picture the scenes in your minds eye. It ends in a cliff-hanger that will having you screaming for more. I can't wait for the next book in this series. Dark of Night was a fantastic story and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of paranormal fantasy romance.

Dark of Night is book two in Callie and Lucas's story, and it was just as amazing as the first book, if not better. I literally stayed up way past my bedtime, with toothpicks holding my eyes open to finish reading it, I could not put it down.

I am going to keep this shorts and sweet, this is book two and book one is a must read as this book picks up right after book one ends. This book is filled with so much action, in and out of the bedroom, and demons coming in from every which way, and then the cliff hanger ending is enough to make you want to hunt the author down and take her hostage till she gives you book three.

I just want to make it aware that after book one I really disliked Callie's brother and father but after book two I now feel that they should be taken out back and be taught a lesson (that's all I will say about them, which is more words than they deserve).

Now Emily, please, please, please can we have book three???
