"I told you not to let her go!"
"She wanted to leave," he says with a gulp. "What was I supposed to do? Tie her to the chair and lock her in the office?"
"Yes!" I growl.
"Did you wear that to make amends?"
I nod.
"Consider it amended. But if you ever leave again," he warns as his eyes harden, "I’ll have you chained to my desk."
I swallow hard as I nod. I believe him.
She doesn’t know it, but this morning I bought the apartment building that she’s living in. I’m the new landlord and she’s officially evicted.
She’ll live with me from now on or I’ll do the same for the next building then the next until I own the whole goddamn city.
She’s officially been under my employment, which means if she ever tries to leave and get another, I’ll keep her here. I’ll make sure that any company she applies to gets an earful of lies about her. She’s never leaving.
I’m ashamed to admit it, but there’s nothing I won’t do to keep her by my side. No line I won’t cross. No law I won’t break.
It’s a bastard thing to do, but I’ll always treat her well. That I promise her.
