Nephilim's Destiny #5

Destined Radiance

Rate this book
The darkness could devour her light… but it’s a sacrifice she’ll make to save her men. My whole life has been turned upside down and set on fire, but now I’m Agent Essie Shaw, full-fledged JP team member. I walk hand-in-hand with Gideon, crave all of Marcus’s ferocious passion, yearn for Jacob’s intense stillness — and ache for Kol, whose soul is torn so deep he’s thinking of doing the unthinkable. Leaving the team. The timing couldn’t be worse for me, my guys, and the dangerous task that still lies ahead of us. The fight we almost lost with those three near-unstoppable glyph witches only scratched the surface. Their source is an evil so powerful, it will restart Michael’s war against humanity. I’ll do anything, even risk letting darkness devour my soul, to pinpoint that source and prevent another war. Because I’m done running, done hiding. The future of all mankind is at stake, and the JP team — all of us, together — isn’t going down without a fight. Destined Radiance is the fifth and final book in the Nephilim’s Destiny series, an action-packed full-length paranormal romance with four irresistible guys and a kick-ass heroine who doesn’t have to choose. * This is a completed series.

Pretty fun series, all in all.

The ending felt a bit rushed for some reason, but eh. It had an HEA (nothing surprising here, it's what we all want when we read UF series), so it's all good.

Nothing to complain about really, but there was nothing that absolutely blew my mind. Good characters, fun action, decent plot, good writing style, but well, it just didn't hit the spot, you know?

Oh well, worth trying out at least, I've seen people who loved this series. Maybe you will too

...well ok.

Destined Radiance was another mess? And a predictable one at that. Essie's perspective started to get stale as it once again fell into the pattern of Essie getting hurt > Essie suffering > Essie thinking she was a monster > Essie having healing sex with all of her mates. I will say, though, that the Kol plot point did have a really good emotional pay off and I was very happy he was finally happy again--but their first time together did make me really uncomfortable.

For the rest... I actually had to skim some chapters in the first half because the pace was dragging and nothing was happening. One of the biggest reveals in the entire series had no build up and fell totally flat and it was just... the least surprising thing to happen in the entire series. There was also no real sense of danger or tension this time around since it was so so so obvious how things were going to go down and fall into place. Some characters that were introduced and/or had important roles in the previous books got totally dropped in this one. So did a few plot points lol It was just messy and not at all what I expected from the final book in the series.

The ending was also pretty underwhelming? It was a happy ending, which was good, but the final chapters that led to it were a bit rushed and didn't have the impact they should have with them being the climax of the entire series etc etc. So, disappointing all around and I'm sad about it.

This review is for the whole series since I read them all pretty much back to back. Enjoyed this PN RH, very fast paced and the characters were all well rounded. I don’t read a lot of RH (Something I should definitely change) but I really did like how all of their relationships developed with Essie over the course of the 5 books. My only real issue is that the 5 books take place over a period of about 3 weeks, which I think was a bit too fast paced lol if all the crazy shit that went down was spread out a little and the characters had a chance to breath it would have smoothed out the reading experience I think. Also would have given the characters more time to bond, as I would have loved some scenes where the guys were building their relationship up. Over all, I’d definitely say I’d recommend this series to anyone looking for a good PN RH read.

Can't Believe It's Over

I've adored this series since I discovered it December. The last is fast and everything takes place in just a few weeks really. This book gives us the real truth about Essie and it is a doozy. The situation with Kol is finally handled as is the issue with Marcus not being branded. Also, Essie has no secrets from the world any longer, but more people support her than she ever thought would. I'm proud of her and happy for her and her guys.

Tessa Cole says there will be a spin-off series where we will see Amiah, Cassius and Sebastian again. I'm looking forward to how that will play out even though Amiah and Cassius still aren't my favorite people. I'll check it out for sure, though.

A satisfying conclusion

I am sad to see the story end but I am looking forward to any spinoff series the author publishes next because she has truly created an interesting world and engaging characters I'm not ready to let go of. This final book neatly ties up all the threads and even manages a few final surprises. I will echo the sentiments of some of the other reviewers in that I did feel some parts dragged on and I found myself skimming to the end to find out how everything gets resolved. I also understand that the final struggle couldn't come too easily, but it was getting a bit tedious to see the main character's doubts still overshadowing every event. Despite that, I have loved the series and I am satisfied with how it ended.

Good ending

Book 5 answers ALL the questions and shores up the details well, ending in a HEA I won’t ruin for you. Just know that if you’ve rooted for any if the guys in this series, you’ll find your happy place in these pages.

Pros:
- Picks up seconds after book 4 ends.
- Answers the questions.
- Her parents!!!
- Her guys.... Yum.
- Suitable HEA that avoids the cheese factor.

Cons:
- Though action packed (seriously!) it still felt like ur dragged in a few places. Hard to explain.
- Wanted a hint of a spin off: Voth, Sebastian, Amhria, Cirrus (the brother - can’t spell his name!)

A real mess, with everything happening every moment, not a second to catch your breath (well, there was a couple of HOT hours...) and everything just kept happening.
I think it was maybe three weeks or four since the beginning of this series, in book time? Fastest series ever!

For awhile there things were getting pretty bad.

Like, I knew the happily ever after was coming, but damn.
How they made it out of that, beyond me. Lol.
That battle scene just got worse and worse.

But, alas.
The story has come to a conclusion. Tied up in a hellhound bow.

I’d like to dedicate this entire review to the two characters that kept this team hanging on by a threadalive.
Priam and Amiah.

First off, Priam is just a cute combination of the Ford Prius and Liam. I kinda liked the name. A little geeky but hey, it worked.

Anywho. Priam and Amiah kept this team alive long enough to save the day.

They healed everyone only to watch them fuck everything up like 3x a day so kudos to them for not losing their shit. I would have.

This book was another go at puke and rally.
How they didn’t sleep for a month, again, beyond me.
BUT she did give them a reprieve. Two weeks recovery. They were lounging at the park. They were on medical leave. Which is huge. Finally, a break.

Things did get dicey for like a whole day so they needed that.

Sadly Sebastian was not added to the harem.
Oh, poo.

I was right about Marcus turning into a hellhound at least.

It’s nice to know my prediction game isn’t totally lost.
Some things were predictable.
Lucifer, Lilith, hellhound, etc.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING THOUGH ISN’T LILITH THE DAUGHTER OF LUCIFER??? SO WAS THAT INCEST???

Yikes.

Lolololol.

Read on harem friends, this series was enjoyable.

Hmmmm

Ok, so I liked this series alot, but I did not agree with the author not giving Essie both Voth and Sebastian, It would have seriously notched up the tension! Especially if Sebastian would have fought being bound to her perhaps opening up an opportunity for him to leave back to Fairy, making Essie follow with her guys to claim him....Voth could have found that connection he so desperately wanted, adding tension perhaps between him and Kol since they are both Demons.....all I can say is that this author has a great writing style, lovely place, and interesting characters...I just wish that Voth and Sebastian would have been handled differently. 4 out of 5 just because I wanted a different ending.

Entertaining Series

This series was entertaining. It was a good weekend read. I enjoyed the characters; however, there was not enough time devoted to really getting to know them. I read a lot of dialogue but when thinking back on it I seem to only remember just on the job talking and internal monologues. The plot was not very memorable and the deeper backstory did not seem very flushed out.

There's just so much that is going on.
She's either an archangel she's a nephilim or she's an archnephilim. There's really only one person that can really tell. The other kicker is Lilith is her mother the hellfire Queen. Who is supposed to be in prison in a cell that's unbreakable. They're still fighting the witches and whoever their goddess is. And then out of nowhere Lucifer shows up. And come to find out he's her daddy. So she was made. But Lucifer decided to take her conceal what she was. To never return to her. Then they go to Vorth. He says he will help. Then she turns Marcus into hellhound, to save his life. Then the JP puts them on the run. Because of what she is. Then they face off with Lilith again and lose horribly she kidnaps to guys JP arrest her. Then as he uses her empath magic for being an angel on the JP top agent to show him her soul. Then he believes her then the Vorth shows up. He demands that they set her free because she's not a monster. Wish you was already in the process of being set free. Then they all go in so they can take down little bit she has to go in first by herself. Then she decides that she's going to commit magical suicide and lock out the bonds with her guys and Marcus is not letting it happen. And then the end of edible happen and then she brands him because he's a hellhound and he'll live forever. Willis decides to go ahead and kill herself with fire cuz she would rather die than being prison again. Then the JP puts them on leave. Then they are allowed to go back to their jobs and have a life even though everyone thinks the inevitable will happen to her but it will not because your guys will not let evil take her over and then they have a happy life

Destined Radiance was more of the same we'd gotten throughout the Nephilim's Destiny series, plus a twist that brought the whole thing full circle and back to (almost) where we'd begun.

The thing is, when there have been fights to the brink of death in every single book of a series, then the epic battle against the final boss doesn't hit as hard. Everyone's already been mortally wounded at least once, our heroine has already decided to lay down her life and sacrifice herself for the greater good previously... We've already been there and seen all that, and there's only so many times you can repeatedly hit the same notes before they grow stale.

But then again, IMO the first few books wouldn't have been as good and enjoyable as they were without all the tension, danger, and angst. Maybe if a more delicate balance had been achieved, and those plot points hadn't gotten overused so much in the beginning, the latter books of the series would have been more impactful. Or maybe the series would have been broken down into fewer books. I'm not sure what the best solution would have been.

Overall, the series was super quick to read because of the fast pace, and pretty entertaining despite the repetitiveness. As a whole, I'd give it 3.5 ⭐, and I think fans of slow-burn RH will enjoy it.

Amazing final!

This was such an amazing action packed ending! It had everything! It felt a little longer than the previous books which I seriously appreciated. I did have a few issues with the timeline that was mentioned, such as when they established in the beginning Essie was out for a day, but then refered to the last book as yesterday - it Feltman bit unclear tbh.

*Spoilers*

I thought the plot was so cleaver and exciting with the fact she did turn out to be an arch Nephilim in the end and who her parents really were. The continuous dreams of the not water I didnt even see it coming that it was the pod thing,. It took me as a surprise and I loved it! Maybe some of the plot twists wouldn't have been a shock to some but they got me every time and I LOVED IT!! I Love a good self sacraficing ending and this one did not disappoint! I'm also loving how she found Kol and pulled him in, but I also kinda wish they talked briefly about their shared dreams.

I'm so sad that this is the end for this series, I wanted stories! More sexy times! More adventurous!

Great ending; would love a story about Voth, Amiah, or Sebastian finding mates

It was an appropriate ending. The story was lively and didn’t drag; though I felt the erratic tumble of her thoughts at times made me constantly question if I had skipped ahead or missed a sentence. There were quite a few spelling and grammatical issues, so I would definitely get those cleaned up and a new edition released. And I would love to gain some closure in the form of stories about Voth or Amiah, and even Sebastian. Voth’s deep yearning and constant sorrow for a mate really touched me, and his life is so complicated that it would be an amazing story. And really I just want Amiah to get her own man because I’m totally over her coveting some other lady’s mate....especially since Ess had to feel it every time they interacted—which was all the freaking time. Great conclusion to Essie’s story though!

Ugh....ugh...

I wanted to like this last book in the series -but I just didn’t. It seemed to be going no where for a long while and then in the last 1/3 of the book it fast forwards to the pre-packaged end with a crooked bow on top. The author’s desire for a HEA shows in the story line and sadly lets the series end on a very boring and predictable note. I gave it three stars b/c the overall series is good. Some of the characters introduced in this book could have had more interesting story lines but the author did not capitalize on it. One thing that really bothered me was the heroine’s repetitive inner monologue. So many inner thoughts were repeated in chapter after chapter that I started skimming towards the end anytime I saw inner dialogue starting up. The first 4 books were hard to put down but this one- I had to force myself to finish it since it didn’t seem to be going anywhere good. Bummer but at least the four books before this one were good.

So good!! This was a great ending to the series, full of magic, raw emotion, and incredible beauty! It was exciting, heart wrenching, and well paced. I loved seeing Essie, Gideon, Kol, Marcus, and Jacob again. Essie had some huge revelations about Big stuff. Anyway, this series is really, really great. It's an awesome mix of urban fantasy and romance, with great editing and pretty covers. I'm really sad it's over, and very happy that I discovered it. 10/10 would recommend. 5 stars!

Man... This all happened in a week? the WHOLE series in a week?!?

It's crazy fast paced. When they sleep, you'd think the day is done but it's not. It was just a power nap. Somehow the day is more than 24hrs.

The whole series is crazy with the timeline. Yes I know there is a time gap between the 1st book and the rest of the series, but it seems like there really wasn't.

I enjoyed the read, but YOU need to lock the door and read in peace until you finish the series.

I'll be honest that I speed read through the inner monologs. The scene in the garage where she turns-think-turns-think-turns-think-turn-hide-cry ... Ugh! And it's all the same turmoil the whole time. That got old fast for me... But the story was too juicy to give up on.

I didn't want it to end!

I'm so sad this is the final book in the series. I wanted it to keep going on forever and ever. Aside from that, the ending was perfectly done and Ms. Cole did a great job wrapping everything up from all the previous books. I of course would LOVE a spinoff series with maybe Voth or Sebastian. Or with both of them!

This series has been so full of twist and turns, doing a great job keeping me on the edge of my seat in suspense. The action, adventure, amazing storytelling, and wicked HOT sex in these books were pure perfection and literally hooked me from the first page in book #1 and didn't release me until the last sentence in the final book.

Loved it so much

I read this 5 book series in 5 days. That should tell you something about how well done it is. Very action packed, almost too much, but still good. Hot, sexy, and steamy scenes. The emotional side was so well done that I felt like the empath. I love reverse harems, but sometimes an author will not do a great job of giving each guy their own distinct personality. This author did a great job. I fell in love with each. The main character is strong and fierce and self-sacrificing to a fault.... But not whiny or stupid about it.
Read this if you like reverse harems series with no guy on guy and a few multi-partner scenes.

Really enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed the high stakes in this book. Really kept me on the edge. Appreciate the releases coming so quickly as well. Well done to the author! You successfully got me out of a two month book slump. I really enjoyed all the action. It was fast paced and not chaotic. Ive had a problem with too much sex in the books I’ve read lately (I guess a hazard when you like urban paranormal) and although there are some scenes it’s minimal and doesn’t detract from the story. Thank you! Ive subscribed to Ms Coles page and eagerly await for future thrilling tales.

Dark and light

This is a series packed into about four weeks total. Book two thru 5 was a week at most. I still loved the book and the characters but have no clue how they didn’t die over and over again. The main character Essie is an angel demon mix who has to fight off quite a bit of bad guys just to finally be free to love her guys in peace. I think out of everyone Kol had the most character and the Marcus, Jacob and Geidon then Essie. I’m happy they all got together in the end but it could have been over at least a month or two span.

Destined Radiance

This was an epic ending to an awesome series. I wasn’t surprised to find out what Essie actually was. However, her parents were not who I had expected. I was thrilled when Marcus finally got his brand. I know they were mated the whole time but he deserved a brand too. Not to mention his new “form” is completely badass. There was so much action in and out of the bedroom in this book. Definitely my favorite of the series.

The beginning of the series took kind of a slow-burn approach to the romantic and sexual relationships, but here in the last book it's... fully on fire, I guess? I can't believe I'm saying this, since I'm usually happy when series end, but -- I think if this book had been two books, with the sexing parts spread out a bit, with more time for plot and worldbuilding and character development, I'd have been happier.

Read this series PLEASE

Okay so the first two books had me ANGRY angry because I could see Essie’s heart and it hurt that people were treating her so badly and honestly if I was a weaker person I would have said “I am done with this series” but I am not weak and neither is Essie. I am so proud of who her guys turned out to me and I encourage everyone to see this to the end. Believe in yourself and get to the end it’s worth it!!!
