The souls of the dead are restless, hungry for the reforged magic hidden within Naomi's blood. But keeping her safe from the roaming spirits is proving harder than Reynolds could imagine. With help from his half-brother Arie, Reynolds uses his cunning to try and keep Naomi safe from the lure of the River of Souls, where the stains of the dead reside. The rest will not come as long as Naomi is alive.
Welcome to my Goodreads page, which I am here more often than I can admit. I love reading and sharing what I read. I haven't found a better arena for me to find like-minded book lovers.
I am the author of the award-winning Vivatera Series, the rom-com To Dream In Daylight, and the comedic paranormal satire Vampire-ish: A Hypochondriac's Tale, among other short fictions. I'm also a published poet and have my chapbook Wandering Beautiful.
My writing needs some element of the fantastical, I especially love fate-driven stories. I gravitate to stories that surprise me with their creativity. If it's something I envy, I'll be a fan forever. I'm fascinated with how others approach their own imagination and how they speak the language of art.
Me personally, I love Count Chocula, retrogaming on my Sega Genesis or PS2, and I'm a strong advocate for creativity. I hope you all enjoy my stories and find them super delightful.

Candace J. Thomas continues to captivate readers with Conjectrix, a thrilling sequel that plunges deeper into the complexities of magic, friendship, and the constant battle between light and dark. This book is an unrelenting ride, picking up immediately where Vivatera left off, and it wastes no time in throwing readers back into the chaos that is Naomi Everstar’s life.
One of the standout aspects of Conjectrix is its ability to juggle multiple characters and perspectives with ease. Naomi’s journey remains central, but the novel expands its focus to include the stories of her friends, each navigating their own perilous paths. These shifts in perspective allow for rich, parallel storytelling that amplifies the stakes for everyone involved. No character is left to fade into the background; they all contribute something vital to the narrative, making it an immersive experience for the reader.
The pacing in this book is razor-sharp. There’s a constant undercurrent of tension as the characters face both internal and external conflicts. As Naomi and her friends venture across the kingdom, you’ll find yourself holding your breath at every turn, unsure who will survive or what choices they’ll make. This unpredictability is one of the book’s greatest strengths, as it keeps you on the edge of your seat, never fully sure where the story is headed.
What truly elevates Conjectrix, though, is the way it expands the emotional and thematic depth of the world. It’s not just about magical battles and high-stakes quests; it's about the sacrifices we make for those we love and the personal demons we each carry. Naomi’s internal struggles are handled with such care, and you’ll find yourself rooting for her not just as a heroine but as a person trying to navigate a world filled with impossible choices.
While the book introduces new twists and deepens the relationships between characters, it’s the ending that truly packs a punch. With a perfect balance of resolution and anticipation, Conjectrix closes with a thrilling cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for the next installment.
If you’re looking for a fantasy novel with rich world-building, compelling characters, and a plot that keeps you guessing, Conjectrix delivers on every front. It builds on the foundation laid by Vivatera and shows just how much potential this series has.
Two parallel stories is fine. Three is pushing it. Six Is right out. Especially when I only really care about one of them. Katia and Landon were the only ones who had me hooked.
I was not disappointed! Having read and loved Vivatera, I was a little nervous - sometimes sequels can be disappointing. Not to fear! From page one, this sequel picks up the story and runs with it. The way Candace takes her many characters from one sticky situation to another keeps you on the edge of your seat and invested in the story from chapter to chapter. Wow! Everything is Naomi's world either loves her and wants to protect her or fears her and wants to destroy her and steal her magic. Even the dead are crying out for her. We get to really know and understand the characters in a new way - who they are deep down and why they do the things they do. We come to appreciate the love of her friends, their goodness and sacrifice, the power of good over evil - also, we get to see into the hearts of even the scariest creatures - trolls and dragons and grumbears. What's a grumbear? Well - read the book and you'll find out! I love this book, but I'm standing on one foot, waiting impatiently for the next one!
Holy smokes people... The Conjectrix was a *fantastic* sequel to The Vivatera!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I feel honored to be one of the first to read it :) Candace gave more depth to characters we already love, and introduced new characters that I fell head over heels for instantly. I was completely invested in the various plot lines very early on in the book. Even though this is only the second of three books in the Everstar series, Candace was able to give this book the ending I needed... just enough cliffhangers to get me pumped for book three, and just enough closure to make me not want to strangle the author :) I bow to you Candace... I know I say it a lot, but your creative mind astounds me... well done, well done.

🍯After reading the first book, I couldn’t stop myself to read this one!! Vivatera really raised my standards and I had same kinda expectations from this one too and I am not at all disappointed!
The joy of loving an anticipated read is out of the world, this one is the exact continuation of the first one and starts right where it ended so there are no missing beads or loops what so ever!
It gets interesting and intense page by page and I also loved how many characters come into the story but their entry is so neat and clean, like with no foot prints and no fishy appearances, this book is really planned and executed so well!
Like the author really knew what she wanted her audience to experience and there was a lot of clarity even when I read it, it’s definitely so engaging and loved how the storyline really stays on track and stays unpredictable!
I just can’t get over the way it ended, I mean I really wanted it to last a bit more and I can’t wait to read the next one! What a great addition to the series!
I’m not sure if one can read it as a standalone, better start with the first book and then come to this one! Definitely recommended!
Here comes the second part of the series and I loved it more than the first one. I was so much invested in the book while reading it that I forgot that I had left my favourite character back in the sequel-1. The loved everything about Naomi's life, how even dead wants to meet her. It’s the victory of good over evil. Destroyers can’t destroy you when the protectors are protecting you. Demons and dragons can’t do anything when people are really blessing you ! Grumbler had a different role to play, the one who took the story on a different tract, a flipper.
There’re a lot of old and new introduced characters who will keep you engaged till the end. Her friends too played a great role. You must be thinking that you’ll be confused with the characters but don’t be scared, it’s damn sorted and well portrayed.
You’ll love her magic, at least I did. The language is simple and easy to understand. The narrating style is perfect. Don’t miss out this sequel. It can be read as standalone only if you aren’t a person who loves reading series otherwise read in the sequel way. Cover will attract you as it’s intriguing and interesting.
Conjectrix is a sequel to Candace J. Thomas's thrilling, magic fueled series, Vivatera. Much like it's predecessor, this book too is packed with action, drama, parallely running plotlines, and has a number of new characters. In a nutshell, Conjectrix won't let you rest.
If you liked the first, the second will meet and exceed your expectations!
Narrator: ok differentiation, the audio is much improved over the first book! Language: G Violence: G Sexual Content: G Story: the story is more involved than before (as you’d expect with a sequel) there are some small inconsistencies in the story but the tale is woven well enough that unless you’re paying tons of attention, you’d likely miss them. If you enjoyed the first book the second has much more plot movement and I would definitely recommend it.
—I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I love this series. I listened to the whole series on audio book one right after the other in about a week or week-and-a-half this summer. The world is fresh, the characters memorable and unique, and the plot a fantastic lesson in the consequences of choices leading to an epic battle between good and evil.
The Vivatera series is definitely worth any fantasy lover's time.
Plot: There was so much going on and so much switching between characters that it was a bit difficult to get all that invested in any of the plotlines. I also felt like even though a lot happened in this book, there weren't any real conclusions. It seemed like the book was more of a set-up for the rest of the story than a story in it's own right, which I don't love. Obviously books in a series need to set up action for the next books, but they should also have some self-contained or resolved plots. Characters: There are some awesome characters in this series, but I felt like I didn't really connect with any of them in this book. Since the chapters jumped around so much in terms of the POV, it was difficult to really get invested in any character. Switching between characters' stories can work in longer books (ex: ASOIAF) but this book had too many character POVs for its length. Overall: I read book 1 right when it came out, so it's been a little while, but I remember enjoying it a lot. I was disappointed by this follow-up. It just seemed like the author tried to cram too much into the book, and it did frustrate me that there wasn't much resolution of any big issues brought up in this book.
I read Conjecterix straight after Vivitara. I thoroughly enjoyed how each character continued to develop and grow throughout the story. The pace kept me moving through the story right up to the cliffhanger ending! There is a lot going on in the story. It can be distracting to hop across the parallel stories, but each separate journey develops so well and is so intriguing on its own that, in the end, I found myself impressed at the scale of the story instead of distracted. Thomas has her work cut out for her tying up all the loose ends she has created in the next book. I worry some that my expectations are too high, but Thomas hasn’t let me down yet. I can’t wait for the third and final installation of this series.
I really loved going deeper into this world full of magic. The characters are really coming to life in this second installment. I appreciate that magic is so important to this story. Magic is practically a character in the story, but the story isn't bogged down by endlessly explaining the mechanics of how it works. The magic is just allowed to be magic and the story is so much richer because of it.
As the publisher of this book, I decline adding a rating in order to to ensure a fair and objective reflection of the general opinion. However, Ms. Thomas is an award-winning author and we feel this book well worth the time for both lovers of epic fantasy and YA fiction.
Conjectrix is book 2 about Naomi Everstar. I enjoyed this book more than the first. With the characters solidly set out in the first book the action and adventure could truly take shape. So far my only problem with this series now is where is book 3!
This book was a really fun and easy read. Conjectrix gives a deeper look into the characters, making you only like them more. I can't wait to get my hands on book 3!
