My Cat Ate Aliens and Other Humorous Tales in Veterinary Medicine is a collection of over 40 outrageous stories from the world of veterinary medicine. Dr. June B. French and her friends take you on a journey where they find themselves in the most unlikely scenarios, filled with surprising characters and twists no human could have foreseen. It all begins in a shelter, wherein they are faced with an impossible, heart-wrenching dilemma. From there, many more adventures are mapped out as you follow June into the land of dogs, cats, horses, alpacas, camels, horses, and even birds of all feathers (the scariest June has ever faced). You will also follow the journeys of June's beloved veterinary comrades, who detail their unexpected situations. These stories include a junkyard horse, a nudist colony, a bear and even a few mountain oysters. And you will also soon meet the furry friend that inspired this whole collection: the cat who ate aliens. These events are the unscripted trials of animal loving professionals in their everyday careers, with the greater mission to aid shelter medicine as well as finding the humor in the crazy situations they find themselves in. We do hope that you enjoy our stories!
My Cat Ate Aliens is a modern, urban collection of humorous veterinary stories in the same vein as All Creatures Great and Small. Like James Herriott, Natalie Griffin is a wise, compassionate doctor whose Southern charm and Christian faith have helped her through some interesting situations that now provide the world with some great amusing anecdotes! These are the stories we veterinary professionals tell when we get together and have a couple glasses of wine; the ones that leave us smiling and laughing together are the ones that give us the strength to get through the heartaches our jobs inevitably encounter. Among my favorites are the chocolate lab (a breed that embodies “Tigger,” you know—their bottoms are made out of rubber, their tails are made out of springs!) who sat still as a statue for Dr. June to remove an object from his eye, and the Chihuahua with the unusual diet and his own personal food tasters! I highly recommend this book. You’ll be smitten by these sweet creatures and their wonderful doctor as they both try to understand pet owners!
I can’t say enough great things about “My Cat Ate Aliens”. Not only are the stories funny and heart warming it’s also a super convenient read! I’m always on the go so having a book packed with so many stories at different lengths was a perfect fit to my life and heart.
Dearest Natalie, I just got done with your book and I LOVED IT...every story! Being reared on a working cattle ranch and riding horses every single chance l got since a toddler, naturally Honeybee was the tearjerker that got me but so many more made me crack up! The hay seed in Buddy's eye, the needle/thread in the pup, the numb lips, the dirty bomber, Marshall - "l never had my own puppy", and Baggywrinkle! That pissed off cow that went down the hill and came back to kill everyone, the nudist folks, and those damn camels/alpacas! Let's face it, l loved it all and if l weren't in FB jail l would've answered sooner. I'm so not technologically savvy and l FINALLY occurred to me that l could email you! Where can l give a review to help your sales? I was looking through some paperwork last week and came across the sympathy cards from losing my Blue Lacy girl in 2011 at A&M Univ hospital. The vet who tended to her thru her histomoplasis (sp?) Was of course, Sarah Griffin, DVM. How ironic. She was, as are you, a loving, caring doll who so hated to tell me that it was TIME. l brought her home to bury her in the grave Jason had already dug and Courtney and l cried most all the way! She was a great dog! Thank you for being the awesome woman/mother/vet/human! Love you Natalie!
Such a fun read. Totally recommend. What a great way to end a very stressful day. I have been a pet owner my whole life and a RN for a good many years so I had to laugh because I thought working with animals would be so different. Well their antics are just different than those if humans. Hope there is a book 2!!
What an enjoyable, witty, easy read. The author's compassion and kindness is felt in every page as well as a hint of her mischievousness. I loved reading about her work stories and how they mix in with regular home life. Recommend!
Great book. It has sweet tales of human foibles as they tyr to do their best for their non-human "children". It's obvious many owners consider a vet's advice to be mere suggestions. It's a fun read and very well written. I recommend this to anyone who loves animals.
I was reading two other books, added this one to the mix, and finished this one first.
Loved reading this book! Amusing characters and events are new in every chapter. Reminds me of Dr. James Herriot’s books of old. Congratulations to the author for involving you into the world of veterinary medicine with all it’s twists and turns. 😊
Such a fun read. I keep this by my bed at night so I end the day with a smile on my face and laughter in my mind. Short, sweet stories about the passion, dedication, and trials of a new vet. Highly recommend!
This book is seriously addicting! I read the first 3 stories the first night I opened it, I would’ve read more but I needed to sleep😂I love the cute, corky, knowledgeable stories; and of corse the hearts of the people/characters involved💙
This book was laugh out loud hilarious. I would be reading this while waiting at my kid’s activities and would burst out laughing. I thoroughly enjoyed all the stories and interesting “characters “. This is a great, easy read book that makes you smile and laugh.
This book is so cute and funny. It’s relatable to everybody in the Veterinary field, and to anyone that loves animals and the human-animal bond. The stories will make you smile. Definitely recommend
“This book is definitely a page turner! I feel like I have a smile on my face while reading each short story and then once the story comes to fruition, the giggling really begins. I really love it!”
“Very easy to read- such fun stories. I love that you are sharing true and enriching, yet humorous experiences. I can’t wait to share with my 10 year old grandson who is an animal lover too.”
I love the heart behind these humorous stories! They’re sweet, funny, and light hearted. I felt like she missed the punchline on many of her stories, but entertaining nonetheless.
For animal lovers: Excellent humorous tales of veterinary medicine with real life mixed in Loved it! This book was a hilarious compilation of real life veterinarian stories about animals, their owners and the people who care for them. I laughed so hard reading some of the stories that I got tears in my eyes. The “My Cat Ate Aliens” story was a great teaser throughout the book. My favorite stories were about the Auburn War Eagle, First encounter of the camel kind, Unforeseen Personal Information, Dawn Dish Soap, Frilly and My Cat Ate Aliens. I also enjoyed the Winston Churchill quotes in the book as well as my favorite verse, Philippians 4:13 being in one of the chapters. My favorite Winston Churchill quote was “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” I highly recommend this outstanding book to pet owners, people who love animals, and people in the medical and education fields!
If you love animals and are curious about the behind the scenes work that veterinarians do, then this book is for you. It is full of funny animal tales from the vets that work with them. It will give you a greater appreciation for your furry friends’ doctor and their diplomatic and humorous way of dealing with colleagues and their client’s families.
Super Fun read! Will keep you laughing and gives you a tour of the many various aspects of veterinary medicine through multiple contributors. The book shows the love of animals, dedication of the veterinarian and the unscripted, unexpected situations that life with animals brings us. Large animal, small animal and some lively birds included. Clean language and a mission to help shelters, enjoy!
A touching look into the veterinarian world with an added twist of humor. Author very cleverly names her characters and captures the reader’s attention with her witty prose. An easy relaxing read for all ages.
